Chapter 245 - 135 Death Mark
Chapter 245: Chapter 135 Death Mark
Wang Jixuan’s body hair stood on end.
As a Cultivator in the early stages of the Returning to Truth Realm, the middle and late stages of the Foundation Establishment Stage, with a Primordial Soul slightly stronger than an ordinary cultivator in the Condensation Realm, he naturally couldn’t be experiencing auditory hallucinations.
Everybody was running towards the control desk;
they did not hear this voice.
This voice came from a Blade Beast, a powerful Blade Beast, many times stronger than the Young King Worm.
A King-level Blade Beast?
Wang Jixuan’s mind rapidly flashed through the numerous scenes he had seen in Fu Jian’s memories;
the feeling of being watched became clearer and clearer;
he felt as if he could hear a deep breathing...
Wang Jixuan slowly turned his head to look at the wall behind him, his gaze seemed to pierce through time and space to see the huge vertical eye suspended in the air at the edge of the Sari Desert.
The vertical eye was staring at him.
He gazed back at the vertical eye.
In a trance, he saw a giant Blade Beast resembling a colossal fish head—it was in a dark underground cave, the giant beast lying on mounds of glowing stone slabs, covered with thick scales. Its mandibles were enveloped by a layer of golden film, upon which a horrifying vertical eye with complex spiral patterns was situated.
A ’chthonian’ type of King-level Blade Beast?
Gurgling—
The film in front of the mouthpiece trembled again.
Some time passed, and Wang Jixuan once again heard that ’strained,’ slow, tearing voice.
"Death..."
The image suddenly dissipated, Wang Jixuan’s pupils dilated, and before him, the view had returned to the simple concrete wall of the workshop, but there was still a trace of abnormality above his head.
He looked up slightly, and the exaggerated voice of Zheng Shiduo had already sounded beside him.
"Look! Wang’s head! Giant eyeball!"
Everyone gathered at the control desk turned to look; a fist-sized small vertical eye had appeared above Wang Jixuan’s head, with intricate spirals along its edges, now staring down at him.
Without a word, Lingtong strode forward and bumped Wang Jixuan to the side.
The vertical eye followed him like a shadow.
As Wang Jixuan steadied himself, Lingtong had already swung her mechanical arm and threw a punch at the vertical eye.
The vertical eye had no substance; the punch passed through it without effect.
Lingtong, avoiding a direct collision with Wang Jixuan, slightly turned her body, her ponytail smacking across Wang Jixuan’s face as she firmly collided chest-to-chest with him. Daoist Wang raised his hand to support her arm and moved her aside.
Ms. Wan said, "Physical attacks are useless. This is just a mark."
Lingtong frowned and shouted, "Uncle Tai! Block all biological signals!"
"Yes!"
The workshop immediately bustled with activity.
Wang Jixuan tried using various magic and Skills to get rid of the vertical eye hovering three feet above his head but none of his currently available abilities had any effect.
The matter quickly attracted the attention of Fu Jian.
The giant vertical eye above Fortress 82;
The small vertical eye above Wang Jixuan’s head;
All the details of the two corresponded, and the message they conveyed was clear.
[Death Mark].
The Blade Beast Group’s strategic target was now apparent.
...
After bustling for half the day, Wang Jixuan succeeded... in getting rid of the idea to remove the vertical eye.
Uncle Tai’s workshop resumed its bustling activity.
Wang Jixuan shifted to the newly established Lingtong Supply Station on the ground surface barracks. Two research groups moved into Uncle Tai’s studio, guided by Mu Dan, accelerating the production of the Demon-breaking Dagger and the Eight Diagrams Plate.
—They were actually high-end laborers, though called research groups.
Several large furnaces had been set up in the new supply station, and tens of tons of ore had already been brought in. Wang Jixuan planned to have Lingtong, Red Snake, and Deep Sea, the three half-human mech pilots he was most familiar with, as his assistants.
The rhythm of preparation for battle must not be disturbed.
For now, he was only targeted by the Blade Beasts.
With the breakthrough in his realm completed, what followed was to forge more Magic Artifacts, produce more talismans, repair the previously damaged Array Bases, and prepare more means for setting up Arrays.
The Blade Beasts targeted him, but behind him stood the entire D5 Combined Combat Zone.
It was a clash of two iron fists.
In the work area where the room temperature was continuously rising, the atmosphere in the adjacent tea room was somewhat tense.
Wang Jixuan sat on the simple sofa, reviewing the relevant research data sent from the front lines.
Lingtong was explaining those data beside him.
Wu Man sat in a wheelchair behind, intently staring at the vertical eye above Wang Jixuan’s head, still pondering how to erase it.
Wang Jixuan himself thought of a solution and brought in a follow-up drone, having the drone carry a black box to cover the vertical eye.
This provided at least some psychological comfort.
"We’ve searched through the confidential databases of all combat zones, and this kind of giant eye has appeared for the sixth time," Lingtong said quickly.
"The previous five times all occurred at the end of the Golden Age, early in the Fortress Era.
"Each time the giant eye appeared, it was above a human mega-city or mega-fortress, followed by an enormous, relentless, and heedless Blade Beast onslaught.
"Even more, there would be a large number of specialized Mimic Blade Beasts that would carry out kamikaze attacks, releasing vast amounts of toxic gas upon death, creating dead zones void of life."
"Out of the five instances where the giant eye appeared, four resulted in the city being destroyed and occupied. Only once did we kill the King-level Blade Beast that set up the vertical eye, causing it to disappear and the Blade Beast group to retreat."
"That victory was brought to humankind by the Commander piloting the Horror Mecha," she continued.
Wang Jixuan nodded, "So, killing the King-level Blade Beast that marked me would make the mark disappear."
"Yes, and there’s an even trickier situation," Lingtong said.
The projection screen illuminated by Lingtong’s mechanical arm flickered continuously, and several photos were displayed:
"Based on the form of the King-level Blade Beast you described, we also found some old data. This isn’t its first time marking, nor its first appearance."
