Chapter 257: A Beast Den ( 1 )

"Unbelievable! If that’s true, what’s happening to them now is karma," the nurse said with wide eyes after she heard her friend’s words.

"Exactly. They bullied the legitimate daughter for years. Compared to the illegitimate one, she lived like an orphan. Thankfully, she married the Feng Group’s President. Otherwise, she would still be struggling now. I heard she was chased away from their house when she was 16 years old," the other nurse said while shaking her head.

"Oh my god, they are going too far!" the nurse exclaimed.

While the nurses gossiped about the Yan family, Wen Jiali had already left the hospital and was on her way to the suburbs. Despite her reluctance, she knew that person was her only hope.

After six hours of driving, she arrived at a small village outside the city. Seeing the familiar road sign, she tightened her grip on the steering wheel and muttered, "It will be fine. If I tell him the truth, he will help me."

An hour later, she finally parked her car by the roadside and stepped out. Standing on the pavement, Wen Jiali stared at the familiar house that still haunted her dreams.

Suppressing her fear, she took a deep breath and walked into the front yard. As soon as she stepped in, the sound of shouting reached her ears, echoing from inside the house.

"Come on, pay up!"

"Brother Wen, you keep winning. Seems today is not my lucky day!"

When she reached the door, she peeked inside and saw a group of men sitting around a table while playing cards.

One of them noticed her and nudged a man with a sallow complexion as he said, "Brother Wen, isn’t that your wife? The one who ran away from home back then?"

Hearing this, the man looked up. The moment his eyes landed on her, he grinned, revealing yellowed teeth.

"Jiali, long time no see," he said with a voice resembling the snake hissing.

Wen Jiali’s hands trembled at the sound of his voice. However, years of living as a wealthy madam had taught her to maintain a calm facade.

She glanced at everyone and said evenly, "Wen Sheng, after all these years, you are still indulging in gambling."

Hearing her words, Wen Sheng sneered and said, "No matter what I do, you are still my woman."

Her eyes darkened the moment she heard this. Her calm eyes were filled with a glint of cold killing intent.

The memories of being sold into the Wen family and enduring years of torment at the hands of this beast were scars that would never fade for the rest of her life. If not for the secret she harbored, she would have killed him long ago.

Sensing her displeasure, Wen Sheng waved his hand dismissively and said, "All of you, get out."

The men quickly gathered their money and scattered. Everyone in the village knew Wen Sheng’s reputation as an ex-convict, jailed for nearly killing someone during a robbery. Since his release, he had grown even more ruthless and lawless.

He was notorious for assaulting women in broad daylight and beating others over trivial disputes. His actions had driven many villagers to leave, effectively turning the area into his personal stronghold.

The few remaining residents were either his subordinates or people who were involved in his human trafficking operations. They also kidnapped lots of women and forced them to become their wives through sinister means. As the boss, no one dared defy him.

Once they were alone, Wen Sheng poured himself a cup of baijiu and said, "Wen Jiali, we both know you wouldn’t come back unless you had no choice. What do you want this time?"

Wen Jiali stepped inside but chose not to sit. Her voice was steady as she said, "Wen Sheng, I need you to do something for me."

As soon as he heard this, Wen Sheng laughed derisively. He pointed at her and said angrily, "Wen Jiali, you were bought by my parents to be my bride. My family raised you for years, but you ran away while carrying my child."

After saying this, he paused for a moment. His tone turned sinister as he continued, "Now, you dare to come here and ask for my help? Do you think I won’t kill you just because you are the mother of my daughter?"

Wen Jiali’s heart pounded with fear, but she forced herself to meet his gaze and said, "If you don’t help me, our daughter will die."

His expression immediately darkened when he heard her words. He stared at her and asked coldly, "Who dares to harm my daughter?"

"It’s that bitch’s daughter," Wen Jiali spat.

"She reported Yan Liguang to the police, and now her actions have led to our daughter being beaten by her husband and sent to the hospital. I don’t have the money to pay for her treatment."

Wen Sheng slammed his hand on the table as soon as he heard this and said through gritted teeth, "That little bitch! I shouldn’t have listened to you—I should have killed her back then!"

Wen Jiali clenched her fists, her regret mirroring his. If she had known that Yan Yuling would bring calamity to her daughter, she would have ended her life years ago.

"What’s the use of regretting it now? We need money immediately, or our daughter will end up a vegetable!" she looked at him and snapped.

After a tense moment, Wen Sheng calmed himself and asked, "What do you want me to do?"

"That bitch married into the Feng family. If we kidnap her, we can demand a ransom from her husband. With that money, we can take our daughter and go abroad. No one will be able to find us as long as we stay outside," Wen Jiali explained, her tone dripping with venom.

Wen Sheng frowned as he listened to her. He liked the idea of escaping with wealth but knew leaving the country without his boss’s permission would mark him as a traitor.
