Chapter 245: Heart Attack
Chapter 245: Heart Attack
Lost in thought, Feng Zhexuan felt a pang of guilt and worry. He couldn’t bear the idea of anything happening to his Grandpa because of Feng Bohai’s actions and his negligence.
Meanwhile, Wei Zheming had made all the arrangements. When they arrived at the hospital, both of them rushed straight to the emergency room.
Seeing him, Uncle Xu approached and said, "Young master, the doctor needs to discuss the Master’s condition with you. It seems he will need surgery."
The news made Feng Zhexuan stagger back a few steps. His Grandpa was already 74 years old—could his body withstand surgery?
Wei Zheming quickly steadied his friend and said, "Zhexuan, there’s no time to delay. You should go talk with the doctor first."
Feng Zhexuan gathered himself and nodded, "Let’s go see the doctor."
In the doctor’s office, the doctor showed them Grandpa Feng’s test results while saying, "Mr. Feng, your grandfather has Coronary Artery Disease. Given his age, I wouldn’t recommend surgery."
"What would you suggest, then?" Feng Zhexuan asked.
"Although it would take longer, I recommend managing his condition with medication."
"Is there still a risk of another heart attack without surgery?" he asked again.
"There is a risk, but with a healthy lifestyle and consistent medication, we can reduce the risk," the doctor replied.
After a pause, Feng Zhexuan nodded and said, "I understand. Doctor, I will follow your advice. Please take good care of my Grandpa."
The doctor nodded and said, "This is what I should do."
Leaving the doctor’s office, Feng Zhexuan went to the VVIP ward. Sitting by his grandpa’s bedside, he murmured, "Grandpa, it’s my fault. I should have told you sooner. I’m so sorry."
As the sun set and the room grew dim, the door to the ward opened, and Yan Yuling stepped in. She found her husband sitting by the window, deep in thought. His pale face made her heart ache.
She walked over and called out softly, "Husband."
The moment he heard his wife’s voice, Feng Zhexuan turned around. Before he could say a word, she embraced him.
The warmth of her hug seemed to melt his tension. He let out a soft sigh of relief and said, "Wife, you are here."
Gently patting his back, Yan Yuling reassured him, "I’m here. Husband, Grandpa will be alright."
Feeling her comforting presence, he wrapped his arms around her waist as he buried his head on her shoulder.
"If only I’d told Grandpa about Feng Bohai, he wouldn’t have had to learn it from the news. What would I do if something happened to him because of me?" he murmured.
Noticing her husband’s bad mood, she held him tighter and said, "Husband, nothing will happen to Grandpa. He still hasn’t met his great-grandchildren—he won’t leave us."
Feng Zhexuan nodded with a soft hum when he heard this. After the brief conversation, they hugged each other like that for a long time.
When Yan Yuling eventually felt her legs begin to numb, she noticed her husband’s quiet, rhythmic breathing. Unknowingly, he had fallen asleep in her arms.
Yan Yuling was surprised and she felt a wave of tenderness instead of amusement when she saw her husband’s sleeping face. How exhausted must he be to fall asleep while sitting?
Determined not to wake him, she gritted her teeth and remained perfectly still, hugging him as he rested.
Feng Zhexuan felt as if he had rested for a long time, but at the same time, it seemed like only a blink of an eye had passed. When he woke up, he noticed that the pillow felt softer than usual and carried the scent of his wife.
Still half-asleep, he buried his face in the pillow, took a deep breath, and murmured, "Wife, I miss you."
"Husband, I miss you too. But could you please let me go? I can barely feel my legs now."
The moment he heard his wife’s voice, Feng Zhexuan opened his eyes and quickly noticed something was amiss. He wasn’t lying on his bed—he was sitting up. Looking up, he saw his wife smiling at him with gentle exasperation.
Remembering what happened before he had fallen asleep, he quickly released her and asked, "Wife, why didn’t you wake me? Were you uncomfortable?"
Yan Yuling stretched her legs and rubbed her lower back as she replied, "You looked so tired, I couldn’t bear to wake you. Husband, how long has it been since you have had a good sleep?"
Avoiding her gaze, Feng Zhexuan muttered, "I always sleep well."
Narrowing her eyes, Yan Yuling cupped his face and asked again, "Are you really sleeping well?"
"I am," he nodded, but Yan Yuling wasn’t convinced.
"Then why do you look so pale and haggard? Your dark circles are as big as a giant panda’s," she said unhappily.
Under his wife’s gaze, Feng Zhexuan finally gave in and admitted, "I can’t sleep without you."
As she heard this, Yan Yuling understood. If her husband couldn’t sleep without her, then it was as if he had returned to the days before they were married.
Wei Zheming had once told her that Feng Zhexuan suffered from severe insomnia. He could go without sleep for up to three days—not because he didn’t want to sleep, but because he couldn’t. Only when he was at his physical limit could he manage two or three hours of sleep, often with the help of medication.
With tears welling in her eyes, Yan Yuling asked, "Husband, why didn’t you tell me?"
Wiping away her tears, Feng Zhexuan smiled and replied, "I didn’t want you to miss the chance to spend time with your father. His condition has been worsening, and I haven’t found a donor for him yet."
"If you couldn’t be with him because of me, I would feel guilty if something happened to him. I don’t want you to have any regrets."
"Even so, you should have told me. Aren’t we husband and wife?" Yan Yuling said sadly.
"Wife, I’m sorry. Please don’t cry, okay?" Feng Zhexuan coaxed when he saw her crying.
