"Ling’er, if one day Mom is no longer in this world, don’t be scared or sad. Mom will become a butterfly and come to see you. Mom will always be there to protect you even if you can no longer see me."

That was the last time her mother held her in her arms and told her a love story. At that time she was confused why the prince left the princess and they couldn’t get a happy ending. Now, she understands, this story is actually her parents’ love story.

Even though she was bruised and heartbroken, her mother still loved her father deeply. There was never any resentment in her voice as she told her this story, only regret and pity.

Yan Yuling raised her hand, and the butterfly landed on her finger, staying still. She looked at the butterfly and asked, "Mom, is it alright for me to acknowledge my father? Will you be angry if I do?"

As if in answer, the butterfly flapped its wings gently and brushed against her cheek as if it was kissing her. When she came back to her senses, the butterfly had already flown outside the window. She walked over and watched it fly farther away.

"Thank you, Mom," she whispered softly.

When she no longer heard her father’s sobs, Yan Yuling finally opened the door and stepped inside. As she entered, she saw him holding a photo.

Standing by his bedside, she called out softly, "Dad."

At the sound of this word, Jin Zhiwen froze. It took him a moment to respond. He looked up at his daughter and asked, "Yuling, what did you call me?"

Yan Yuling noticed his swollen eyes and hoarse voice, and her own throat tightened with sadness. Seeing the disbelief and anticipation in his gaze, she repeated, "Dad."

Hearing this, Jin Zhiwen opened his mouth, but no words came out. From the moment he had met her, he had longed for her to call him "Dad." He had thought she would never forgive him, so hearing the word ’Dad’ from her was almost unbelievable.

Reaching out, he held his daughter’s hands and asked, "Yuling, have you forgiven me?"

Yan Yuling nodded and said, "Dad, I’ve thought it through. Everyone made mistakes, including me. So, I have no right to judge you or put you through more pain. Now that we have finally found each other, let’s live a good life together. Dad, I won’t be angry at you anymore."

Jin Zhiwen nodded, and replied, "Yuling, thank you."

"Dad, I’m grateful that you are alive, and I’m happy that I finally have a father," Yan Yuling added with a smile.

Hearing his daughter’s words, Jin Zhiwen nodded, unable to say a word. He was so happy that he was speechless.

After a while, he finally said, "Yuling, this is the only photo of your mother that I have. You can keep it."

Yan Yuling looked at the old photo and shook her head, "Dad, you should keep it."

Jin Zhiwen hesitated for a moment before he nodded, "Alright."

Since they had acknowledged each other, Yan Yuling informed Jin Rongsan and Feng Zhexuan about this matter. When they heard the news, both of them were happy for the father and daughter.

Meanwhile, at the First Hospital of Haicheng, Yan Yunci was visiting Lin Xiao. Standing by his bedside in the ICU room, she looked at him and said, "President Lin, if you keep sleeping, your company might go bankrupt."

Thinking of the current situation at the Lin Group, she continued, "I don’t know what your brother was thinking. He actually used the Lin Group’s public funds for his personal expenses. I also heard that the matter has reached the authorities, and he has been taken in for investigation."

"At this point, the Lin Group’s stock price has dropped to its lowest in the past five years. It’s even lower than when you took over the company."

"Oh, and I heard from Yuhan that the Feng Group is planning to acquire your company. They have already started the acquisition process. Maybe when you wake up, you won’t even be the president of Lin Group anymore."

She let out a long sigh and added, "Since you have taken a liter of my blood, you could at least be considered a friend. So you had better wake up and pay me back. If you dare to keep sleeping, I will come and scold you every day."

As she looked down, she noticed a slight movement in Lin Xiao’s fingers. Thinking she might be imagining it, she rubbed her eyes. But when she looked again, his fingers were indeed moving.

She quickly held his hand to check if it was real. When she felt the movement, her eyes lit up.

"Lin Xiao, you are finally awake!" she exclaimed.

Placing his hand back down, she hurried out of the ICU room and called out, "Doctor, Lin Xiao woke up! Come here quickly!"

Hearing her shout, several nurses came over, and one of them went to call the doctor. Yan Yunci waited outside while the doctor examined Lin Xiao. Soon, the doctor came out with a frown.

Seeing his expression, Yan Yunci walked over and asked, "Doctor, how is he?"

"The patient is stable and can be moved to a regular ward. But there is no sign of him fully regaining consciousness. Based on his condition, he might end up in a vegetative state," the doctor said with a sigh.

Yan Yunci was stunned. She looked at the doctor, wide-eyed and in disbelief.

"Impossible! I clearly saw his fingers move just now," she said, refusing to believe that man would spend the rest of his life in bed.

"That could have been an involuntary muscle movement. His brain activity hasn’t shown any significant improvement," the doctor replied, shaking his head.

After the doctor left, Yan Yunci stood there for a long time, lost in thought. She eventually removed her medical gown, mask, hat, and gloves before leaving the hospital.
