Chapter 67: Chapter 2: First Arrival in Yujing
Yujing, the most prosperous city in the western part of the Wuji Continent, is located near the Zhou River with convenient transportation, equipped with a Magic Temple, Hunter Soldier Union, Sky Beast Port, and shipyard, and is also the gathering place for doctors and scholars from all over the country.
The local agriculture and commerce are well-developed, with tens of thousands of people from other regions and countries coming daily. It is also known as the city of the strong, with mages, martial artists, and even summoners—who are rare on the continent—lurking around.
Yun Sheng and Little Black, accompanying the unconscious Yun Canghai, arrived in Yujing City after seven or eight days.
What she didn’t know was that, just a few days before she arrived in Yujing City, Ye Beiming had been ordered to travel across Great Zhou City to start his quest for the Beast Blood Cloud, and Yun Sheng had unknowingly passed by Ye Beiming.
From that moment on, over the span of ten years, the restored Ye Beiming gained fame as the Zhou Wu War God, while Yun Sheng quickly rose to prominence under multiple identities. The love and entanglement between them had just begun, but that is a story for another time.
To enter Yujing, one must pay a silver coin as an entrance fee.
Seeing Yun Sheng as just a girl driving a horse carriage into the city, a few City Guards couldn’t help but come forward to inspect.
Barely lifting the carriage curtain, a black dog sprung out.
The black dog had short black fur, its neck comically twisted to the right, but none of the City Guards dared to underestimate it.
The black dog seemed to have some Tibetan mastiff bloodline, with shiny fur as if waxed, the size of a small sheep, strong and powerful limbs, and bared sharp teeth at the sight of strangers, appearing quite fierce.
That was Little Black. After devouring a piece of Wind Maggot Beast, its body underwent changes.
Yun Sheng still couldn’t discern its rank, but Little Black had grown much stronger than before, now comparable to hunting dogs or even mastiffs.
"Gentlemen soldiers, the man in the carriage is my father, a Yujing citizen. He has contracted a severe illness, which is why he must avoid the wind," Yun Sheng said with a worried look. Along the way, she spared no effort in taking care of Yun Canghai.
The trickiest part of caring for someone in a vegetative state isn’t the day-to-day maintenance, but their inability to eat. Without modern nutrient liquid delivery systems, Yun Sheng could only feed Yun Canghai some precious ginseng soup with a straw on the journey. The gold coins she had obtained as bounties for Wanted Magical Beasts were mostly spent on this.
Even so, Yun Canghai continued to lose weight day by day.
In just seven or eight days, Yun Canghai had become nothing but skin and bones, which inevitably made Yun Sheng deeply sad.
She drove non-stop day and night, hoping to reach the General Mansion as quickly as possible to find a cure for her father.
"It’s a patient, eh? What illness has he contracted? If it’s a contagious severe disease, he is not allowed into the city," the soldiers said, troubled,
Yujing being a major city and the capital of a country, sees countless people coming and going every day.
To prevent any epidemic from entering the city, there are specific regulations regarding entry. Anyone with a severe contagious illness cannot be allowed inside.
"My father’s illness is not contagious; it’s a rare kind of comatose condition. We have come here to seek out relatives. Gentlemen, please be kind and let us in," Yun Sheng said, somewhat anxiously. She had not anticipated such regulations in Yujing.
"Young lady, it’s not that we can’t make accommodations, but if we take the blame from those above us, it could cost us our heads. How about this: you go inside alone first, and leave the carriage at the city gate. Once you have found your relatives in the city, have them bring a certification from a doctor of at least a certain level to come and fetch your father," the City Guard, seeing Yun Sheng’s youth and worn clothes, and noticing her caring for a relative on her own, couldn’t help but feel compassionate and gave her a clear direction.
Yun Sheng thanked the City Guard, settled the horse carriage, and then ordered Little Black to watch over the carriage by its side.
After asking the passersby for directions, she sprinted towards the Martial Saint General Mansion.
Yujing was vast, and Yun Sheng found out that the General Mansion was located in Wuning Lane, a concentrated area for residences of fifth-rank and above Military Officers.
Yun Sheng only knew that Yun Canghai was from the General Mansion, but she knew nothing about the Martial Saint General Mansion.
When she was in Banana Leaf Village, due to later becoming the Big Sister of the village, Yun Sheng also got to know a bit about the Martial Artists, who, just like Mages, were divided into different Ranks.
For instance, Lei Hu of Banana Leaf Village was merely a beginner-level Martial Artist, while Ding Mao of Huoyan Village was a martial master. The ranks of Martial Artists from beginner upwards are: Martial Artist, Samurai, martial master, Martial Venerate, Marquis, Martial Arts Sect, Martial Saint, Martial Emperor, Martial God.
The Yun Family was known as the Martial Saint General Mansion, not only because two Martial Saints originated from their ancestors, but also because Yun Sheng’s grandfather, the father of Yun Canghai, was a Martial Saint.
A Martial Saint is equivalent to a Holy Sanctuary Mage King among Mages. In the entirety of Great Zhou, there were no more than three Martial Saints, and among them, General Yun had been a Martial Saint for the longest time.
Therefore, for the people of Great Zhou, the Martial Saint General was an existence as resolute as Mount Tai and the North Star.
Yun Sheng had never meant this legendary grandfather, but merely standing outside the Martial Saint General Mansion, she was immediately met with a fierce and intense aura.
Outside the Martial Saint General Mansion, sculpted stone lions made of red iron stood mightily on either side, with vermilion painted copper doors guarded by two imposing house servants with swords - who were merely house servants but already martial masters.
Using a martial master as a door guard was something probably only found in the General Mansion.
You should know that in other cities, a martial master could independently serve as an instructor in a Martial Arts Hall.
Just as Yun Sheng was approaching, she suddenly heard the sound of a door opening, and a lavishly dressed boy with several ferocious Blood Claw Wolves walked out of the General Mansion.
Great Zhou revered martial prowess, and the residences of fifth-rank officials or higher, aside from having guards, some powerful officials’ sons even kept a dedicated Demon Beast enclosure to raise various fierce Demon Beasts, not only for the family’s descendants’ martial training but also to take these beasts hunting during the annual spring and autumn hunts.
In late May in Yujing, there were already hints of early summer’s sultriness.
The boy who came out was about two or three years older than Yun Sheng. He had a pleasant facial structure and agile posture, clearly trained in martial arts from a young age.
"Good morning, Young Master. Where are you taking the Demon Beasts?" Several guards saluted respectfully.
The boy that emerged was Tang Yu, the posthumous son of Yun Cangxue’s first husband, who had been living in widowhood at the General’s residence. Yun Cangxue’s husband had originally been a trusted subordinate of Yun Bahe, tragically killed in a border chaos incident.
Yun Cangxue was known for her difficult temper and, not getting along well with her mother-in-law, took her son Tang Yu back to the General Mansion.
Yun Bahe had no grandsons, and Tang Yu was very smart; despite his young age, he had already passed the Martial Artist examination and was very much favored by Yun Canghai.
"We just bought two Blood Claw Wolf pups, and they seemed restless, so we decided to take them out for a walk," Tang Yu said, and then led the wolf pups out.
Little did he know, these pups, recently acquired by the mansion and still retaining their wild instincts, had just stepped out of the gate when they spotted Yun Sheng not far from the entrance. With their jaws open wide, they lunged towards Yun Sheng.
