Chapter 75: The Walking Disaster Settles In

.

In a room at the inn, a black haired elf girl with emerald green eyes was staring into another pair of large green eyes.

"What should I call you? How about furball?" said the elf girl, thinking out loud as she glanced at the small creature sprawled comfortably on her bed,

as if it owned the place.

Upon hearing that, the creature swished its tail, a sign the girl took as a no.

"Hmm, okay, what about Inky? Do you like that one? It really matches your fur," she said, coming up with another name, excited,

only to be met again wit a slight twitch of the tail from the creature on the bed.

"Hmm, you’re a tough one, huh?

Hmph, don’t worry, I’ve got another one you’re gonna love," she said, wearing the expression of someone at war with no intention of backing down.

"How about Coal?" she said proudly, as if she’d just discovered the perfect name.

The little creature: "..."

It stared at her with a look that screamed,

’You call that a name? How come my kind hasn’t conquered these beings yet?’

Just as the elf girl was about to continue, a loud noise rang out, followed by a door being kicked open as an agitated Zhu Rong stormed in.

He paid no mind to Ye Ning’s fright and immediately shifted his gaze to the beast lying on the bed, which had begun licking its paws.

"You! What are you doing here?" he said upon seeing the shadow cat he’d spotted last week at the slave market.

’Could it be that it already claimed its first victim and is now targeting the next human it remembers?’

That’s what Zhu Rong was thinking, before forcing himself to calm down.

’Stay calm. It’s just a kitten. It’s still too early for it to become a walking disaster.

There’s still time to get rid of it,’ he thought as he walked toward the creature with a ’friendly’ smile on his face.

"Come on now, let’s get you back to your family," he said, drawing closer.

The shadow cat, seeing the expression on the human’s face, panicked and bolted toward its lifeline

the elf girl.

With quick, soundless steps, it landed in Ye Ning’s arms.

Still confused by Zhu Rong’s sudden entrance, she looked down at the cat, then up again with a protective gaze as she hugged it close and turned to him.

"Master, what are you trying to do to little Coal?" she asked, receiving nothing but dark, silent stares from both the cat and Zhu Rong.

"Little Coal? Are you for real?

Wait, no, that’s not the point. Ning’er, give me that furball.

Trust me, if we don’t get rid of it now, it’s only going to bring trouble later.

You don’t know this, but these cats may look nice, but they’re terrifying when they want to be.

You have no idea how much chaos they’ve caused in the past.

I’m telling you, better to get rid of him while we still can," Zhu Rong said firmly.

But all he got in return was a determined stare from the elf girl.

"Master, how can you say something like that? Look at him, how could a creature this cute cause any trouble? You’re overreacting.

Don’t worry, I’ll tame him properly," she said, completely confident in her abilities.

’Tame who?’ thought the shadow cat, clearly not pleased by what it had just heard.

But it decided to go along with the elf girl for now, as the other option definitely seemed worse.

Zhu Rong wanted to argue more, but then sensed a fluctuation in spiritual energy, right before a familiar voice echoed in his minds.

’Leave it. That girl is even more stubborn than her mother when she sets her mind to something.

I’ll keep an eye on the cat,’

came Lin Xian’s voice, sounding just a little tired.

’Old hag, who do you think you’re fooling? You really think I don’t know what you’re planning?’ Zhu Rong replied mentally, only to be met with silence.

’Tch, Fine.

But you better put a seal on that thing’s powers.

Otherwise, it’s going to go around spreading chaos and destruction, and Ye Ning’s the one who’ll end up getting hurt,’ he transmitted, finally giving in to the two of them.

And just like that, Ye Ning ended up with a pet.

One that fought tooth and nail and finally managed to get rid of the awful nickname it had been given,

only to end up with one that was just slightly better.

Or at least, that’s what the cat told itself at night so it could sleep.

"Coco, from now on you’ll train with me. One day, we’ll be the duo that dominates under this sky,"

Ye Ning said with a wide smile.

Zhu Rong, meanwhile, had returned to his training room, ready to resume his cultivation.

These days there wasn’t much to do.

His business was up and running, and he had reached a decent level of initial stability,

both in talisman trading and weapon production, which was handled by Old Han,

as well as pill crafting, which was managed by a group of elf girls who had taken an interest in the art and had quickly reached the peak of Adept Rank.

His account at the pavilion was now full of spiritual stones, and with no big expenses in mind, he decided to use some of that money to upgrade the underground training facilities beneath the inn.

Time passed, and before long, the name of his brand began spreading far and wide. It reached ears both within the pavilion and beyond,

everyone surprised by the sudden rise of a business that had been completely unknown just weeks earlier.

Many began wondering what kind of background this person had and started investigating, only to come up empty handed.

The business had only been founded less than a month ago, so there was nothing to dig up.

As for the man behind it all, he became even more mysterious in the eyes of the public, because the moment they tried to learn more about him,

they ran straight into a wall, the pavilion itself, which seemed to have locked down his identity, preventing anyone from accessing his personal information.

Who he was, where he came from, what his profession or cultivation rank might be,

none of it was available.

Needless to say, this caused even more of a stir, especially among other masters in the pavilion and rival brands working in the same field.

Everyone wondered, who was this person that had appeared out of nowhere, so important that even the pavilion itself had sealed off all information about him?

Zhu Rong was unaware of this; he didn’t know that Master Huì Chéng, the examiner at the time, had taken all the necessary measures after receiving orders from the pavilion master.

Not that it would’ve mattered to him.

For someone like Zhu Rong, fame had lost its shine a long time ago.

The only thing that mattered to him was the results of his business,

everything else was superfluous and irrelevant as far as he was concerned.
