.
The old man at the counter, hearing his words, couldn’t help but get a little angry and said,
"You little rascal, there’s no way our products are defective, think a little.
Everything is inspected before going on sale, there’s no way anything would be faulty," he said, clearly displeased.
He had worked here for over two decades, and not once had the products he displayed ever had any issues.
So of course, he was a bit upset, saying they might be defective was like questioning the Pavilion’s credibility.
Even the young man realized his mistake and quickly apologized,
"Come on, old Liu, don’t get mad.
Can you really blame me for thinking that way?
When have you ever seen a spirit rank item sold at that kind of price?" he said.
"You little brat, let me atleast finish, will you? I spoke with the seller,
and he said he just opened up shop and for today only, he’d be selling all his talismans at a low price.
He’ll probably raise the prices starting tomorrow," the old man explained, giving the reason behind the discount.
"Wait, For real?! If that’s the case, give me some right now!" the young man exclaimed, eyes shining.
When else would he have the chance to buy items of that level at such a bargain?
He was sure others had already noticed the low price too, and if he didn’t hurry, they’d be gone.
He had put aside two mid grade spirit stones for his cultivation resources and had only come today planning to spend one of them on a few protection and attack talismans,
but now his plans had changed.
"Damn, If these are the real deal, I should be able to make a lot more profit."
He wasn’t the only one, similar scenes were happening at other counters as well.
In no time, the large batch of talismans Zhu Rong had created was sold out in record time.
This wasn’t just because of the shockingly low price, but also because of how wide the range of functions his talismans covered.
For example, just among the attack and defense talismans, there were five different versions,
all of the same rank and grade, with effects similar to many others, but each with their own twist.
Then there were the support ones, offering protection from specific types of attacks, or quick healing to a certain extent.
Zhu Rong hadn’t held back, he made his own versions of the most basic talismans, the ones cultivators used daily.
That, combined with the low price and the Pavilion’s credibility, was the perfect recipe for a great launch.
He had spent just 1 gold coin on all the materials.
From those, he was able to make 60 talismans, of which he sold 55,
all of them being first grade spirit rank.
The selling price varied slightly depending on the talisman’s quality and effects,
some were worth more than others.
But the base price for a talisman of that level was 1 mid grade spirit stone.
For today, though, he dropped it to 10 low grade spirit stones , and stuck to that for all of them.
In the end, he made 550 low grade spirit stones,
which, when converted, equaled 5 mid grade stones + 50 low grade stones .
After the 15% cut taken by the Pavilion,
he was left with 4 mid grade stones and 68 low grade ones.
[Author’s note: The spirit stone conversion is similar to what you might have seen in other Xianxia novels:
1 high grade = 100 mid grade = 10,000 low grade spirit stones]
So basically, from a single gold coin,
he made a profit of 468 low grade stones, which is over 48,000 times his original investment.
All this happened in just about 5 hours from when he first put the items on sale.
By evening, the entire sum was already in his account.
Zhu Rong wasn’t really shocked by the amount.
Sure, now he could finally say his pockets weren’t empty anymore, he had some wealth to his name.
But as he looked at the earnings, he just shook his head.
He remembered how he used to earn way more than that in a single transaction, in his past life.
Someone else, however, didn’t quite see it that way.
Ye Ning: "..."
’Haa... working late must be making me hallucinate,’ she thought.
She figured she must have read the earnings report wrong,
so she took a moment to rub her eyes before looking at the report in her hands again.
But the numbers didn’t change.
"..."
Her jaw dropped to the floor as her trembling finger pointed at the numbers,
turning to her master who was packing up and getting ready to leave his workshop.
"M-Master, I think there’s a mistake in the numbers here," she said.
She was just 14 years old,
and in all her years, she didn’t think she’d ever seen a number higher than a few low grade stones.
The official currency might vary between empires,
but cultivators all used spirit stones, and they were the same everywhere.
So she had a rough idea of what that amount meant.
She just couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that her master had made that much with such materials and barely two hours of work.
It had to be a mistake on the Pavilion’s part.
"Little Ning, you really underestimate your master’s skills.
You’d better get used to these kinds of numbers quickly,
because this is just the beginning," he said, turning toward her with a smile.
"In the future, we’ll be making so much more money that these amounts will feel like pocket change."
The elf girl didn’t quite realize how true those words were, but she didn’t need to.
In due time, she would.
That said, this really was just the beginning.
The people who bought the talismans were still skeptical,
but they knew if something was wrong with them, they could get a refund.
So they decided to take a gamble and buy them anyway, to see how well they actually worked.
If they didn’t, they’d just lose some time, but at least get their money back.
But if they worked, then they’d just made a great deal.
With that mindset, many had bought them in bulk.
And many of them were already out testing them.
