Chapter 483: Chapter 108 The Roar of the Storm
As the sun set and the moon rose,
this time’s sunset lacked the beauty of the last one. The vast wilderness was still damp. The grass that shot up into the air formed a mat, and Gu Shen and Chu Ling were sitting atop this suspended grass mat.
"This world still feels a bit desolate,"
Gu Shen remarked with a hint of regret.
After comprehending his own path in the Grain Rain Volume... the Four Seasons Wilderness had changed.
"I think it looks quite nice..."
The girl leaned back on her hands on the grass mat, her eyes crescent-shaped when she smiled, like a waxing moon.
Chu Ling watched the sunset.
Gu Shen watched Chu Ling.
The two of them just sat there... The world was very quiet but not lonely.
At the end of the wilderness in the distance, there stood a solitary wandering soul.
Tie Wu, with his hands on a shovel, didn’t feel lonely at all, but instead felt warmth in his heart when he saw the grass mat swaying back and forth in the twilight.
His expression contented, he sighed, "Worthy of being Lord Divine, his discernment is truly impeccable..."
That Miss Chu Ling there was the most "beautiful" woman he had ever seen to this day.
Having followed the God of Wine for many years.
Traveling through the Five Continents, what sort of people hadn’t he seen? Countless beauties had offered themselves up in the name of the Divine Throne, and Tie Wu had seen more beautiful shells than he could count.
But Chu Ling was different from them.
That girl exuded an indescribable ethereality.
No matter how beautiful the people in this world were, they were, after all, still mere mortal shells.
Yet the feeling of seeing Chu Ling was... as if one had laid eyes on a "Goddess" who should not exist in the mortal realm.
Yes... Goddess.
That adjective was quite appropriate.
"Alright... Time to get back to work!" Tie Wu pulled his gaze back, took a deep breath, and resumed swinging his shovel.
...
...
"Do you think... one day I really could come to the outside world?"
Chu Ling sat on the grass mat, swaying with the wind, as the mat swayed too.
"Of course," Gu Shen replied without any hesitation.
The wind played with her hair.
The two of them were close... Gu Shen could feel the fine strands of hair tickling his cheeks, quite itchy, and even though this was the Spiritual World and there shouldn’t be any sense of smell, he detected a faint fragrance.
Chu Ling radiated a light scent all over.
In truth, many inquiries are known to be answerless even before they are posed.
But Gu Shen knew.
If one could receive an unequivocal "yes," it was sure to be a huge encouragement.
Indeed... Chu Ling smiled.
"The Deep Sea’s database can calculate everything in this world... yet ironically, it cannot compute the future." She leaned back, lying on the grass mat, caressed by the breeze as if floating on the undulating tides. Turning her head to Gu Shen, she laughed, "I clearly understand that no one can answer questions about the future... but your answer somehow gives me extra confidence."
"Don’t forget, I am the heir to the Divination Skill," Gu Shen smiled, stating seriously, "Who says I can’t see the future?"
"Divination Inheritor..." Chu Ling smiled even wider, "That line might work to deceive those little girls out there, but I know all about you."
Gu Shen shrugged helplessly.
"Do you know? I’m not just comforting you."
He too lay down, closing his eyes, and chuckled comfortably, "I’m serious... Perhaps I can’t provide a reason, but I just know that you will come to this world."
Before the Spiritual Link with the Divine Embryo occurred,
he had said such things.
Chu Ling was briefly surprised, falling silent for a moment before asking softly, "Why do you believe so firmly... Isn’t that quite an absurd thought?"
"Yes... It is absurd to think that the ’source code’ from a virtual world could be reborn in the material world," said Gu Shen.
With his eyes closed, he felt the last rays of the sunset fade bit by bit, as night crept up across the wilderness, a chilly dark wind passing through. Even with his eyelids shut, he could still feel the caress of night’s arrival.
He opened his eyes, his gaze bright with excitement, and countered, "But then, what could be more absurd than me meeting you?"
Chu Ling had not anticipated such a response.
Indeed.
She was the "source code," and in her view, the world had never changed.
She had always been at the center of it, exhaustively searching through data for the key to the Ancient Literature Society.
Yet for Gu Shen, the world he understood changed overnight after meeting Chu Ling.
"If this world can have Extraordinary Powers, sparks of life, and a giant wall to keep out the ’blackout zone’... then why can’t you come to this world?" Gu Shen said slowly, "Perhaps, the world we see is still not complete."
Chu Ling chuckled softly, saying, "This reminds me of a warning Mr. Turing left in the Deep Sea’s database."
"A warning?"
"The only constant in this world... is change," Chu Ling murmured. "On a macro level, Deep Sea can predict the rise and fall of each tide, but it cannot calculate the number of droplets in each high tide; on a micro level, Deep Sea can control a person’s emotions and thoughts through Spiritual Link, but cannot control the decay and renewal of each cell in his body, or the hormonal and enzyme metabolism in each organ. We control everything, and yet we control nothing."
"Mr. Turing left such a warning, too?" Gu Shen was a bit surprised and, pondering it for a moment, mumbled, "Isn’t the latter part a bit too long?"
