Chapter 344: Chapter 35 Thorny Dreams (Combined)_2
The back of Bai Lu’s hand was engraved with a black rose entangled in thorns.
And wherever Black Feather passed,
thorns bloomed——
"Enter the dream!"
Accompanied by a cold, low reprimand.
The sturdy ice of Ning River shattered with a boom, the land beyond the small bridge collapsed entirely, and where the dream propagated, black thorns tumbled like earth dragons, large clusters of roses as big as mountains, perched on both banks of Ning River, replacing the ancient towers and old streets.
This dreamscape...was indescribably eerie, enchanting, dreamlike.
Gu Shen stood at the end of the small bridge.
Behind him, a piercing pain akin to a sword thrust to the heart faintly emanated; glancing back, he saw no way back... his entire body was almost embedded within a giant wall of thorn-engulfed blooms.
The thorns piercing his soul body at his back brought him a faint piercing pain, but it also made Gu Shen even more collected.
This was his first experience of this kind of battle... In previous battles, it was always Gu Shen who managed to pull the opponent into the dream.
But now,
it was reversed.
The Bai Family Witch seemed to own a rather formidable "Dream Sealing Object," which forcefully dragged his spirit into this dreamscape... and the next second, a familiar voice, belatedly, rang in his mind.
"... I am here."
Sitting in car 001, Chu Ling turned the pages of a book, the pages reflecting the scenes of this gorgeous dream. Her tone sounded calm, with a hint of sarcasm: "After all, I’m just a ’not so important’ person; being a little late shouldn’t matter, right?"
Gu Shen was taken aback, only then realizing that he had misspoken when he first saw Bai Lu.
He laughed softly, Miss Chu Ling, who adhered to the logic of the "source code," actually found such an odd point to take offense.
Before Gu Shen could speak again,
a sudden whooshing sound came from behind——
"Buzz!"
The massive thorn wall behind him suddenly sprouted spear-like barbs, and a human skeleton emerged, extending its arms, attempting to forcefully embrace Gu Shen!
Gu Shen instantly leaned forward and kicked back, shattering the skeleton!
He planted his hands on the ground and leaped forward.
"Clack!"
The ancient bridge’s bluestone flooring instantly sprouted two sharp spines, shooting straight for Gu Shen’s eyes.
His eyes glittered brightly, an invisible tide of Spirit Sea surged forth.
With a "boom," the two spines exploded just as they were about to penetrate his eye sockets, turning into a burst of small fireworks, and Gu Shen landed on the river surface of "Ning River," standing inside a giant flower bud. This huge flower, large as a boat, seemed to be alive.... slowly writhing petals, opening and closing, breathing.
"So... you want to strike at me,"
He looked at Bai Lu, his tone turning icy, "Just because you accepted those mundane items from Han Dang?"
"Of course..."
The figure of the woman in black on the bridge chuckled lightly.
"Not really."
Bai Lu’s fingers gently twirled, the giant roses on both shores also rotated their petals, the whole world seemed to be turning upside down, revolving anew.
But she didn’t know.
In Gu Shen’s eyes at this moment...the scenes of this dream world were all fictitious; after Chi Huo pulled out the deception, what he saw was only scattered spirits and essence.
Gu Shen stabilized his footing on the black big boat beneath him with a strand of his spiritual power, countering the upheaval of the entire dream.
"I heard you are a Dream Interpretation genius, that you passed the S-level test in Da Teng City, and even set a record," Miss Bai said with a smile, "I was just curious... how genius a Dream Interpretation genius can really be."
She displayed the tattoo on the back of her hand.
A bewitching rose, entwined with thorns, was now emitting a dark black glow.
The light and darkness of the entire world were in harmony with the glow of the tattoo.
"This item is called ’Thorny Dreams’. It was a gift from my brother not long ago; if it were to be rated, it would probably qualify as an A-level Dream Sealing Object," Bai Lu said with a smile, "You were able to break the Judgement Institute’s dream, surely you can break mine too... right?"
Gu Shen did not answer.
He asked, "What good does this do for you?"
The Bai Family Witch leaned on the railing, looking down lazily and carelessly. After hearing the words, she seemed to think deeply for a while.
Then, shaking her head, she said, "Nope... no matter how I think about it, there’s no benefit. Under the broad daylight in this harmonious world, if I fought an S-grade genius from the Judgement Institute, a whole bunch of people would definitely come after me— the Judgement Institute, the Gu family, and the teachers..."
Indeed, if this news were to get out, it would cause quite a stir.
"But does doing something always require a benefit? I want to do it, so I just do it."
Bai Lu pondered while stroking his chin for a long time, then smiled and said, "From the first moment I saw you, I knew... you will be a powerful person in the future, perhaps as powerful as Little Xiuzi."
"Don’t compare me with others." Gu Shen spoke coldly again.
"Is your S-grade pride acting up? It doesn’t matter..." Miss Bai said with a grin, revealing a tiger tooth, "If I can’t beat you in the future, then I must take advantage while I can now to thoroughly torment you."
Gu Shen’s expression changed drastically.
The giant black boat under his feet plunged instantly toward the bottom of the "Ning River"!
He lightly tapped the river’s surface with his toes, heading toward the next flower bud, but the same scene played out. The moment Gu Shen’s toes touched the bud, like a bubble bursting, the giant flower instantly plummeted toward the riverbed!
Gu Shen lightly patted the river’s surface, heading again toward the ancient bridge. He saw that woman leaning on the railing, giving him a friendly smile.
Without any movement, the whole ancient bridge actually moved backward—
He could only clumsily grasp the stone railing.
Countless thorn spikes emerged from the bottom of the "Ning River," swarming out and creating a tremendous wind pressure that made one’s scalp numb, and eventually, these spikes filled the entire dream.
Gu Shen took a deep breath and looked down.
It was just a small bridge.
Yet now he felt as if there was a bottomless abyss under him... he would rather have a real abyss beneath him than to fall into thousands of thorn bushes and be impaled.
"Your spiritual power level is really just the Deep Sea Fourth Level..." Bai Lu observed Gu Shen up close. She looked at the young man’s handsome face and asked with a puzzled smile, "With such a big difference, how did Shen Li ever lose to you? Is he a buffoon?"
On this point, she really couldn’t understand.
Gu Shen didn’t answer. He felt he could no longer clutch the railing as the stone barrier began to seep water. Bai Lu, who had absolute control over this dream, might very well be a third-stage Transcendent.
"Let’s get reacquainted..."
Bai Lu extended a hand and said softly, "Bai Family, Bai Lu."
In the beginning.
Gu Shen didn’t take her hand... yet now, within this "Thorny Dreams," if he didn’t shake hands, he would plunge into the dense thorn bushes.
Bai Lu waited leisurely.
And after waiting for a long time, she received a familiar response.
"...Crazy woman."
This was what Gu Shen had said when they met at the Taoist School.
He silently watched the woman on the bridge.
Watching her expression change from a smile, to anger, and finally to astonishment.
He let go of his hand.
At that moment, Bai Lu wanted to unravel the dream.
But Gu Shen fell too fast—
Quicker than the falling was the streak of Chi Huo that swept from his brow.
Rather than saying he was falling into the boundless thorns, it was better to say he turned into fire, igniting the entire dream!
"Boom—"
Bai Lu’s pupils constricted as she watched numerous water sprays blasting open, amidst an intense spark, Gu Shen like a bird, spreading his arms, and upon falling, a colossal column of flame splashed up to the sky.
And what made her disbelieve.
In the final blazing flames, she seemed to see a third person in this dream.
It was an ethereal and sacred girl standing like a deity at the bottom of the Ning River, amidst the boundless sea of fire and flowering thorns, as if she had been waiting there all along, just waiting for the flames to bloom.
