Chapter 232: Chapter 172: I Specialize in Punching Faces!

An oval-shaped large conference room.

On the podium, Xide, the deputy minister of the operations department, stood at a lectern and spoke eloquently, "Today is a very special day. In the third Blood Moon cycle, the NW operations department has welcomed our first B sequence promoted staff member..."

Brian felt bored backstage.

Behind the screen backstage, a magical thing similar to one-way glass, one could see directly through the wall the various chiefs sitting in the conference room, along with a large number of unfamiliar faces that Brian hadn’t seen before.

These unfamiliar faces all looked older, the youngest of them probably over thirty, relaxed in demeanor, exuding an air of a worldly-wise.

The group included both men and women, although women only constituted about one-seventh of the population.

As one of them, Susan stood out with her relaxed attire of denim and T-shirt, her impressive figure and delicate face were eye-catching, yet only a short man sat next to her.

This short man was none other than Rajag, the C5 team leader whom Brian had helped before.

The two occasionally chatted but, most of the time, Susan was lazily playing with a bullet, her expression as cold and unapproachable as when Brian had first seen her.

It was obvious that she was quite bored.

...

On stage, after Xide babbled for about four or five minutes, he tactically coughed, "Now please welcome the new star of our operations department, the first Sequence promoted to Dawn Warrior—Brian Lee!"

As his words fell,

everyone’s gaze turned towards the entrance.

A tall figure in a slightly sci-fi-fitting uniform, bathed in the lights of the conference room, appeared in their sight like a protagonist stepping from a black and white film into a colorful world.

Recognizing the newcomer, C5 team leader Rajag’s profound eyes widened.

Brian!

How could it be Brian!!

Hadn’t he joined the NW organization just over two months ago!!!

Rajag thought he might be seeing things and turned to glance at Susan, only to find her just as agape.

Plop~

The bullet that Susan was nimbly playing with lost support, fell to the ground with a crisp sound, rolled along the slope, and stopped at the feet of Brian, who had just walked out of the corridor.

Brian bent over, picked up the bullet, raised his eyebrows at Susan, lightly kissed the bullet, and then solemnly placed it in the front pocket on his chest.

He stepped onto the podium, "Hello everyone, I am Brian, a staff member of the operations department’s B6 team, and I thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend my promotion ceremony... But the one I am most grateful for is my team leader, her name is Susan, yes, that beautiful lady who just sent me a bullet in blessing..."

Listening to the laughter of the crowd,

Susan’s pretty, slender fingers clenched into fists, and her cool face, now uncontrollably reddened bit by bit, spreading to her earlobes, like an inebriated beauty, seductive with a shy charm amidst her cold beauty.

...

After the self-introduction, the award ceremony began.

Xide took a wooden disk from the hands of a woman dressed as a field OL, approached Brian, and personally pinned a medal bearing the emblem of a sword and shield onto Brian’s chest.

Then he announced to the audience, "After the approval of the NW Supreme Committee and the assessment by the Internal Affairs Department, it was specially approved to promote the B sequence soldier Brian Lee to the Second Rank Sequence—Dawn Warrior. Congratulations to him for becoming the thirteenth Second Rank sequence staff of the NW operations department. Let’s wish him well!"

Crackling.

Accompanied by the audience’s enthusiastic applause, Brian officially joined the privileged class of the Los Angeles NW Organization in a reserve capacity.

His name would now circulate among the upper echelons of the millions of residents of Los Angeles, a global economic megacomplex, no longer an unknown individual.

After the award presentation, the next items on the agenda were networking and a ball.

Naturally, these wouldn’t take place in a conference room.

Brian left first with Xide leading the way.

Only then did the audience follow suit and leave one by one.

Susan, listening to the surrounding crowd discussing whether the handsome, young, and promising Brian was single, clenched her fists harder, angered to the point where her chest swelled.

This damn Brian!

He had actually kept his own promotion a secret from her!

Thinking back to when she had told Brian that she would work hard so that they could both be promoted together, she now really wanted to pin Brian to the ground and ravage him thoroughly!

That bastard must have been laughing inwardly at the time!

The thought of Brian having just kissed the bullet and then raising his eyebrows at her made her both angry and amused.

Seeing Susan alternate between grinding her teeth and chuckling, Rajag standing beside her breathed much lighter, afraid of drawing her attention.

He had to admit he felt some admiration for Brian.

The guy had just made it clear to everyone that his relationship with Susan was special.

This matter would surely reach Susan’s family’s ears.

Still too young.

Foolhardy ambition isn’t necessarily a good thing.

If it were him, he wouldn’t have dared to be so brazen without first securing his position.

...

The construction cost of the underground base, in terms of manpower and resources, was several times that of the surface, and due to its mountainous location, the costs were even higher.

This, however, did not impede the luxuries that the wealthy could afford.

In a hall filled with virtual landscape and lights, Brian looked at the sheer cliffs before him, under the bright sun, stretching out his hand to feel the cool breeze, his face showing amazement.
