Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Magician (Please Favorite, Follow, and Vote for the Monthly Ticket)

Almost every school has such a legend.

That the school is built on a burial ground.

In fact, many times, this legend is true.

At least for the kindergarten in front of He Ao, it was.

During the urbanization process, land that was originally a burial ground is generally unwelcome for property developers to take over and build upon. After all, when buying a home, people generally don’t want their house to have a view of a graveyard.

Thus, most of this kind of land ends up being developed into public facilities such as schools or parks.

The land on which this kindergarten stood used to be the communal cemetery for the village nearby.

Later, with urban development, the ancestors buried in this cemetery were exhumed. Some were relocated, while others were cremated and taken to a city public cemetery.

But no one was willing to take over this plot of land. Eventually, a developer bought it intending to build a private kindergarten on it.

However, the developer went bankrupt and committed suicide by jumping off a building halfway through the construction. Endowed with the double buff of bankruptcy and burial ground, nobody dared to take over the land, and it remained abandoned until now.

The entrance to the construction site was locked with a rusty iron gate, but luckily the surrounding walls were not high, and He Ao easily scaled over them.

In the instant he climbed over the wall, an odd feeling in He Ao’s heart sharply increased.

It seemed the problem lay right here.

It was now dark, the sun had sunk behind the mountains, and under the dim twilight, the abandoned construction site that had only a skeletal structure appeared even more sinister and terrifying.

He Ao looked ahead, noting the concrete ground beneath his feet cracked with fine lines. From these cracks, about a dozen flowers, roughly thirty to forty centimeters tall, with yellow petals, swayed in the wind.

He Ao squatted down to closely observe one of the flowers in front of him. They resembled sunflowers, with a diameter of over twenty centimeters and only five petals. The center of the flower displayed an orange hue tinged with a deep red, vaguely forming a pattern that resembled a screaming skull.

The flower seemed to possess a unique charm, drawing He Ao to touch it, to get closer to it.

Then He Ao directly grabbed its stem and yanked it out with force.

Bang—

The fragile stem couldn’t withstand such brute strength, snapping instantly and oozing a faint black-purple sap.

And after the stem broke, the flower’s strange ’charm’ quickly dissipated.

He Ao carelessly tossed the plucked flower aside.

A flower that affects the mind and lures people to approach it certainly doesn’t seem like any ordinary plant.

He Ao raised his head, gazing up at the empty abandoned building.

Vaguely, he thought he heard a human ’howl.’

’Selling cold noodles~ Delicious and sweet cold noodles~’

At that moment, his phone suddenly rang.

He Ao picked up the phone and pressed to answer.

"He Ao, I’m at the school’s West Gate now," came the somewhat excited voice of Liu Nan from the other end of the line.

"Sorry," He Ao glanced at the building in front of him, "I’ve got something to deal with right now."

"Ah," Liu Nan sounded a bit startled, "then,"

She paused for a moment, "I’ll wait for you."

Then she hung up the phone.

He Ao looked at his phone and casually sent a message, [If it gets too late, just head back, eating tomorrow is just as good. Let me know when you leave.]

The reply came: [Okay]

Then He Ao stepped back, sent a location to Zhang Ansha, and sent a message with it, "There’s a problem here."

Zhang Ansha replied immediately, "Wait for me, I’ll be there soon. Stay safe and don’t make any rash moves."

How did Zhang respond so quickly? Watching his phone 24/7?

He Ao casually replied with an ’Okay’, then pocketed his phone.

The phone was a second-hand one he had picked up online for a thousand yuan. The day before yesterday, he had opened the back cover, removed the battery, and smoked it black. Then yesterday, he spent fifty yuan on a new battery, snapped the back cover in place, and it was good to go again.

Cheap and durable.

Flap flap flap—

The sound of flapping wings caught He Ao’s attention. He looked up and the sky was suddenly filled with dense flocks of white doves, each carrying animal limbs in their beaks, flying towards the abandoned building.

Among these remains were those of rats, and cats and dogs too, some still dripping with fresh blood.

As He Ao watched the doves, some of them noticed him as well. They cooed loudly and dove towards He Ao in a frenzy.

He Ao dodged to the side, picking up a broken steel reinforcement bar from the ground, and started hitting the doves, sending their twitching bodies to the ground as broken flesh and blood.

"Who!!!"

A roar like that of a wild beast emanated from inside the building.

With that roar, the doves in the sky crazily swarmed towards He Ao.

Attempting to peck at his body with their beaks.

He Ao didn’t tangle with the doves but, holding the steel bar, he rushed deeper into the building.

Towards the source of the roar.

Clearly, the doves were driven by that sound, to capture the leader first.

The building, originally meant to be a kindergarten, was not large, just three stories high. As soon as He Ao entered, the doves from outside swarmed in too, closely following him. A small group, particularly fast, was almost upon him.

He Ao jammed the steel bar into the cement floor, flipped forward to the ground, picked up a rusty iron plate, and swiped sideways a few times, shattering the foremost doves, then yanked out the steel bar and leaped up the stairs to the second floor.

The roaring grew louder, and He Ao glanced at the ceiling before quickly jumping up to the third floor.

Once on the third floor, the doves stopped chasing. He Ao lifted his head and looked forward.

The third floor was smaller than the first two. He Ao raised his head and could see everything in the whole floor at a glance.

And now, about thirty meters away from him, stood a handsome man in a neat tailcoat and a magician’s top hat, with white gloves on his hands. The man looked very much like the photo Zhang Ansha had sent to He Ao, but he was much handsomer. He looked at He Ao, bowed slightly, and said,

"Welcome to my magic stage, sir."

He reached into his sleeve, pulled out a dead twig, then took out a lighter and set the twig on fire. Amid the blazing flames, the twig transformed into a bouquet of white tulips.

The magic was indeed impressive, and the magician had style.

If one could overlook the pile of animal carcasses and flesh behind the dashing and tall man.

"Sir, it seems you are not quite pleased with my performance?"

The magician looked at He Ao, showing a slightly mad smile, "May I ask, where did I go wrong in my performance?"

His cheeks began to twist, and he placed his gloved hands, half closed into fists, in front of his cheeks.

"Did I do something wrong? Do I not look like a magician?!!!"

Madness radiated from his words, and a twisted and frenzied qi spread from inside him.

He Ao didn’t say a word but raised the steel bar and drew it across in front of himself.

The long steel bar’s end collided with the cement floor, striking brilliant sparks.
