Chapter 810: Eternal Divine Nation

Chapter 810: Chapter 810: Eternal Divine Nation

Before Lena’s eyes lay a wide shanty made of brick walls and sheet metal.

The reason Lena could recognize it as a church was because next to the open sheet metal door of the shanty, there sat a thick, rusty sheet of iron with the word "Church" hastily painted in red.

The snowflakes scattered across the sky sprinkled on the red paint, resting quietly amidst the vivid lettering.

Individuals in plain clothing passed by the metal door one after another, entering through the thickly rusted iron door of the shanty.

"Search this way, the target definitely ran through here."

Shouts seemed to echo faintly from behind.

Lena lowered her head and glanced at her clothing.

Her originally delicate red dress had long been tattered in battle, and on the way, she had intentionally smeared some mud on it to cover her white skin, wrinkling the ruined dress to make herself look more like a disheveled wanderer.

In fact, her current appearance was rather poor even among wanderers.

In Wint City, those who were completely ragged only made up a small portion of the wanderers; most had some low-paying temporary job, earning a little income to sustain their livelihoods.

Although the money wasn’t enough to afford rent, it was just about enough to buy some basic food and daily necessities to barely survive.

So, they mostly tried to dress neatly to be more appealing to potential employers.

Although the situation was bad, everyone was struggling to live.

If one was too dirty, entering some of the more bustling areas would lead to being chased away or even attacked by armed security.

However, this area was near the Storm Building, the most chaotic place in the city, so even if Lena made her disguise a bit dirtier, it wouldn’t raise too much suspicion.

Lena glanced sideways at the young boy with closed eyes beside her.

She had also disguised He Ao a bit, but not much, since He Ao himself had been through a fierce fight—his clothes were already torn and his body bore dried scabs of blood.

All she needed to do was cover the more obvious wounds and bruises to make He Ao look like a normal ’resident’ of the vicinity.

This was not difficult for Lena, although she hadn’t been back for a long time, this was still the place where she grew up.

She knew very well what the people here should look like.

Judging by the surrounding pedestrians, the current situation seemed even worse than when she used to stay here.

Because time was tight, her ’disguise’ was very simple. At first glance, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong, but upon closer inspection, one could find bloodstains on both individuals.

But this wasn’t a big deal; for most of the people in the Storm Zone who were struggling just to live, they seldom had the energy to concern themselves with a stranger’s condition.

After making sure the disguises were fine, Lena blended into the crowd and walked into the shanty church.

She was starting to understand why He Ao had guided her here; sometimes, the most dangerous places were indeed the safest.

However, she still felt uncertain about being able to evade the pursuit of the Eternal Secret Teachings.

Both she and He Ao were in a seriously injured state—if the Eternal Secret Teachings discovered them, their chances would be bleak.

Pushing aside the chaotic thoughts in her heart, her facial expression remained unchanged as her gaze ’naturally’ swept across the scene before her.

The ground inside the church was a fragmented cement floor, which seemed to have originally been an age-worn little plaza, turned into a ’church’ at some unknown time.

And on this cement floor were lined up little plastic stools one after another.

These stools weren’t large, most had faded in color, and their capacity to bear weight was poor, easily breaking with careless use.

Such things would be unimaginable in the Cloud District, but were common in the Storm Zone.

On the rusty sheet metal walls on either side of the church were lines written in red paint.

On the left it read, "Eternal Radiance guides us towards the most beautiful Kingdom of God."

On the right, "Damage to chairs will be compensated at cost."

And at the deepest part of the church stood a circular podium made of cement, where the clergy of the Eternal Secret Teachings would likely stand.

To the right and behind the podium, there was a small iron door crudely cut out of the sheet metal wall, and behind it, a faint glow shimmered.

Streetlights near the Storm Building could never be lit, as even the streetlights themselves had been dismantled by the nearby residents and sold for cash.

Behind the door, there was light, indicating there was another area beyond.

According to common sense, that should be the area where the Eternal Secret Teachings’ priesthood resided.

Lena didn’t have time to appraise the entire church from the exterior; she could only infer the possible structure of the church in her mind.

While appraising the church, she was also quickly following the crowd moving forward.

Compared to the grand Eternal Secret Teachings’ main cathedral she and He Ao had visited the night before, this church seemed "lacking."

At this moment, many had already taken their seats on the church’s small stools, one after another.

Not far in front of Lena, an elderly man dressed in a loose robe, somewhat lean, was gesturing, guiding people toward different areas.

Lena lowered her head and continued to move forward with the crowd.

Soon, she passed by the elderly, who seemed to pay no particular attention to anyone in the crowd, maintaining his gesture to guide the way.

She let out a slow sigh of relief, yet almost the moment she exhaled, a somewhat hoarse voice came from behind her, "Excuse me, Cult Member."

Her body tensed slightly, her mind racing through countless plans, but her facial expression remained unchanged as she turned her head to look at the elderly, asking with a somewhat cool voice, "Can I help you?"

"Is this—"

The elderly slowly raised his hand, pointing at the young boy on her back.

"This is my younger brother."

Lena answered cautiously.

This was a very normal way to deal with strangers near the Storm Building.

No one knew if a person who suddenly approached with friendliness might turn into a vicious robber at any moment.

"It seems he is feeling unwell?"

The elderly glanced at the young boy on Lena’s back and slowly pointed to a spot in the corner of the church, "Over there it’s less drafty, warmer."

After a brief pause, Lena nodded gently, "Thank you."

She slowly turned around, heading in the direction the elderly had indicated.

Only after verifying that it indeed was less drafty and warmer did she slowly sit down.

She laid He Ao, who was still unconscious, down on the stool, then let the boy rest his head on her lap.

She glanced at the tear in her stocking and the white skin exposed beneath and slowly pulled at the edge of her stockings to cover the exposed skin.

Her skin wasn’t actually this translucently fair — as a vagabond child who crawled out from the mire and struggled even for food, she could hardly get any nutritional care, and her skin couldn’t possibly be in a good state.

The change in her body was entirely because she had fortuitously advanced to become a Transcendent, and the Transcendent strength had reshaped her body.

Once fully seated, she turned her head to observe the noisy crowd around her.

People entering the church carried various scents, some of smoke, some of alcohol, and even some people smelled distinctly of excessive consumption of illicit drugs.

These scents mingled together in the simple church, concealing the bloody smell on both her and He Ao.

Returning to her senses, she looked around her.

Those sitting near her were mostly dressed in rather thin garments or appeared to be frail.

For a house with drafts everywhere on a snowy night, a spot with no drafts definitely counted as a good place.

Lena herself did indeed want to find a relatively warm spot because He Ao’s condition didn’t look too good.

She looked down at the wounds on her own body.

The wounds had already stopped bleeding and appeared to have shrunk a lot since the initial injury.

This was the body change brought about by her promotion; the ’warrior’ Secret Medicine was reshaping her body and accelerating the healing of her wounds.

She estimated that as long as she stayed here a little longer, her injuries would heal significantly, and she would regain a portion of her strength. Then she could try to find a weak point in the defenses of the Eternal Secret Teachings to break out.

More and more people were filling the church.

As the human voices increased, the chill in the surroundings also diminished considerably.

More and more people sat near Lena, her expression serene, maintaining a cold demeanor, and no one disturbed her.

Just as most people had come in, the robed elderly man approached. He whispered briefly to a middle-aged woman sitting a few rows behind Lena, who then nodded her head, slowly got up, and walked towards an empty seat not far away.

The elderly man’s voice was very low, but Lena heard him clearly; he was exchanging seats with the middle-aged woman.

After the middle-aged woman had left, the elderly man took his seat directly.

He did not turn to look at Lena, instead, he looked up in the direction of the pulpit as if he truly just favored that spot.

Lena, without showing any sign, carefully glanced at the elderly man.

She did not feel threatened by him; judging from his actions, he seemed to be a purely ordinary person.

Soon, as the church seats filled up, a man in a white robe came out from a small door at the back of the church. Holding a thick book that emitted a soft glow, he walked up to the church podium.

"Silence! Silence!"

He raised his hand slightly. His voice was not loud, but it reached everyone’s ears without impediment, "Welcome, brothers and sisters, to this place to listen to the teachings of the Eternal Radiance."

This must be some kind of Extraordinary Items or the power of a ceremony.

Lena glanced at the man on the podium.

His power was very constrained, making it impossible for her to judge his true strength.

"Before today’s sharing, I am delighted to tell you all some good news,"

The man held the classic text in his hand, "We have received a revelation from the Eternal Radiance and will select one among you, brothers and sisters, to go enjoy the blessings in the Kingdom of God, and from then on, he will no longer suffer the tribulations of the mortal world. In the Eternal Divine Nation that possesses everything, he will enjoy his endless years!"

As soon as his words fell, the whole church exploded like a boiling pot of soup, and noisy voices instantly filled every gap.

"Quiet! Quiet!"

The man in the white robe called for order again. This time his voice carried an undeniable authority, and the entire hall quieted down in an instant.

Some kind of ’bewitching’ power.

Lena thought to herself.

"I will announce the name of the ’lucky one’ cherished by the Divine Being at the end of this sharing session,"

The man’s mouth bore a smile as if genuinely happy for the person ’chosen’. Once he was sure all eyes were focused on him again, he opened the book in his hands,

"Today, we are going to talk about the Eternal Divine Nation.

"The Eternal Divine Nation is the Domain of the Eternal Radiance, the ultimate end of everything in the universe. When this chaotic universe finally moves towards destruction, the Eternal Radiance will reshape this world, creating a more stable, orderly universe,

"At the same time, His Kingdom will cover the new universe. The Life that is created in this new universe will live in His eternal Kingdom.

"The Eternal Radiance loves His children of the new universe, allowing His children to live in the Eternal Divine Nation, immortal and free from aging, without hunger, without any troubles.

"However, the life of the old universe was not created by the great Eternal Radiance. We are not born the children of the Eternal Radiance; in theory, we should be destroyed along with the old universe.

"But the Eternal Radiance is compassionate. He loves all lives equally, so He has given us a chance to enter His immortal, Eternal Kingdom as people of the old universe.

"We just need to worship Him devoutly, praise Him, and we will enter His Kingdom of God after death, become His children, and gain eternal life that goes directly to the new universe.

"Are you still afraid of the cold wind, fearful of hunger, afraid of those terrible violent thugs?

"In that great Eternal Divine Nation, all this will no longer exist. There will be no hunger, no pain; these things are only in our dreams, but now, they are within our reach!

"This is the mercy of the great Eternal Radiance. This is our only chance to escape the suffering of life. The Eternal Divine Nation flowing with red wine and honey is waiting for us ahead, and we, just need a devout Faith!"

The man in the white robe raised his hands high, his shout tinged with madness, "Let the great Eternal Radiance see your devotion, praise the great Eternal Radiance!"

"Praise the great Eternal Radiance!"

Fervent Believers in the crowd raised their hands high.

Then, one after another, people began to raise their hands high, "Praise the great Eternal Radiance!"

As more and more people raised their hands, the entire church began to be covered by a fanatical and noisy atmosphere, and even those who were hesitant raised their hands high.

Lena also raised her hands in the final moment.

At that time, she noticed the elderly person beside her had almost simultaneously raised their hands.

"Good, the great Eternal Radiance will see our devoutness!"

The man in the white robe slowly lowered his hands and began turning to the next page of the scripture.

The noisy crowd around them quieted down once again.

It was then that several figures in white robes emerged from behind the door.

They glanced at the man on the podium, nodded slightly to him, and then quickly scanned the people sitting in the church along the walls on both sides.

Few among the people immersed in the boisterous atmosphere noticed these figures.

However, Lena was an exception; she spotted them almost the instant they entered.

Clearly, these people were ’looking for her.’

Most of them were D-Rank, not ruling out the possibility of bringing props capable of unleashing C-level strength.

Lena internally estimated the strength of the white-robed individuals as they entered.

With their auras not well-hidden, someone with extensive combat experience could roughly determine their level of power.

She considered her remaining strength at the moment, contemplating how to maneuver safely out of there with He Ao.

While pondering, her gaze continuously fixed on the podium, indistinguishable from the other devout believers.

It was then that a white-robed individual searching near her twitched his nose, as if smelling something, and quickly approached.

Is this guy a dog?

Lena cursed inwardly.

At the same time, she took a deep breath and readied herself for combat.

Thump—

At that moment, a slight noise came from behind Lena. A plastic bag fell from the sleeve of the elderly person sitting behind her and rolled onto the floor.

The attention of the nearby people quickly shifted.

"What’s that?"

The approaching man in the white robe immediately lunged forward, picking apart the plastic bag on the floor.

Clumps of meat, still stained with blood, spilled out from the old person’s plastic bag.

A pungent smell of blood instantly spread.

"I just bought some rat meat,"

The elderly man lowered his head, cautiously gathering the meat off the floor, then looked up at the white-robed figure with an embarrassed expression, "Would you like to try some?"

"We are all brothers and sisters of the church,"

The white-robed figure glanced at the plastic badge on the old man’s chest, began helping collect the scattered meat, and while gathering, asked, "Elder, have you seen anyone suspicious around here?"

As he spoke, his gaze naturally swept over the surroundings.

"Not at all, everyone here is a local resident."

The elderly person shook his head.

"What about that one?"

The white-robed man’s gaze fell on a woman who seemed to be listening to the lecture.

"That’s a distant niece and my little grandnephew,"

The elderly man followed the white-robed man’s gaze, carefully saying, "Are you looking for them? They’ve had hard lives, but they’re devout believers and would never dare to do anything wrong."

"If they are your relatives, then there’s no issue."

The white-robed figure glanced at the woman’s disheveled back and slowly got to his feet.
