Chapter 808: Chapter 808: Church? (Large Chapter, Asking for Monthly Votes)

The silent night wind swept through the streets, as the panicked White Robe Priests cautiously chased after their target deep into the night.

And behind them, on the remains of a half-collapsed building, the bloodied young boy glanced at the White Robe Priests rushing away. He reached out, picked up the red scarf beside him, shook off the dust, gently rubbed it between his hands, and wrapped it around himself.

Then he turned his head back, took one last look in the direction where the White Robe Priests had gone, then turned and walked away in the completely opposite direction.

——

Storm Zone

In the silent alley, the red-haired woman lifted her head, watching the crowd that approached step by step from the end of the alley.

At this moment, the towering walls blocked her retreat, and the fine wounds covered her body, making her originally exquisite and beautiful red dress appear somewhat tattered.

"Miss Lena,"

The bald man leading them watched her coldly, "I think you’re well aware of what we want. Tell us about your experience last night, tell us everything you know, and you can leave here. We will also offer you an additional payment of eighty million federal coins."

"Do you think I would trust an ’employer’ who was ready to kill me last night?"

Lena watched the bald man and the people standing behind him, gripping the black dagger in her hand, her voice laced with mockery.

"Alright, then let me put it another way,"

The bald man glanced at Lena’s delicate and pretty cheeks, "If you cooperate, I will give you a dignified end."

He smiled at the corner of his mouth, "You deliberately led us away to create an opportunity for your companion, right? Clearly, you’re going to be disappointed. You don’t know what kind of being your companion is about to encounter. By now, he probably doesn’t even have a complete corpse left."

Lena’s expression darkened slightly.

"The injuries on your body are not light, and that C-level Extraordinary Item of yours isn’t too shabby, but do you think you can rely on it to defeat us?"

The bald man stepped closer to Lena, his voice deep and carrying a kind of undeniable oppression,

"Cooperate with us, tell us everything you know, and you’ll have a rather pretty end. You wouldn’t want to end up like your companion, unable to even leave behind a complete skeleton, would you?

"You mercenaries, aren’t you supposed to go wherever there’s money? Could it be that you really have some kind of professional ethics?"

"Don’t talk about your speculations as if they are established facts,"

Lena raised her hand, the black dagger danced in her hand from pointing upward to downward. She took a deep breath, "Besides, I’m not standing here for someone else, I am standing here for myself."

"Stubborn fool."

The expression on the bald man’s face completely darkened, he stopped in his tracks, his voice ice-cold, "Take her down."

The several shadows behind him instantly charged out.

And he retreated half a step, blocking the entrance of the alley.

In the distance, the sound of a convoy racing through the streets could be heard.

Lena also heard this sound and glanced towards the entrance of the alley.

Now, not only the people from the Eternal Ancient Teachings were looking for her, but the people from the Eternal Secret Teachings were also searching for her. Of course, the people from the Eternal Secret Teachings were also looking for those from the Eternal Ancient Teachings.

But she no longer had the time to ponder these things. Watching the charging shadows, she raised her hand and took a defensive stance.

Five people in total came her way, forming a V formation that blocked the entire alley and quickly closed the distance to Lena.

The two people at the front of the formation were the first to engage Lena.

Each had a short blade in their hands, one on the left and one on the right, slashing at Lena.

Lena leaned to the side, lifting the dagger to block the blade on the left, then kicked the person on the right in the abdomen.

The man on the right was sent flying, crashing into the wall behind him and embedding into it.

At this moment, the second row of people already reached Lena.

The person on the right side of the second row held a thin sword and thrusted directly at Lena.

Lena instantly tilted to dodge, but in that instant, the person on the left side of the second row thrust a military spike at her, and she wasn’t quick enough to dodge—it pierced her left abdomen.

She violently raised her hand, her dagger deflecting the short blade of the person on the left in the first row, and just as she was about to cut towards the person who had stabbed her in the left side, a large giant hammer smashed towards her face, hitting her in the chest and sending her flying.

She crashed against the wall at the end of the alley with a loud boom.

Five people once again gathered, calmly watching her.

The first four were among the very best D-Rank, and the last one seemed to have already reached C-level.

Lena could feel that they hadn’t used their full strength; the skirmish just now was merely a small probe.

"Do you still want to struggle?"

The bald man’s voice came from the deepest part of the darkness.

Sitting amidst the rubble, Lena watched the figure that obscured her field of view.

She knew very well that if they came at her with another round, she would die.

A faint cold sensation touched her cheek—the melting snowflakes on her face.

The snow had started falling again.

It had been a very long time since she had faced such desperation.

In that moment, she seemed to recall the mire in Storm Building, facing those larger street kids who wanted to steal her last piece of bread.

Staggering up from the rubble, she took out a Mithril Test Tube that glowed with a red brilliance from her bosom.

The last words the boy had said to her when they parted echoed in her ears.

Warriors, born from death.

Her red dress stained with blood, she bit the Mithril Test Tube’s cork with her pearly white teeth and yanked the cork out.

"Stop her."

The bald man’s icy voice echoed behind everyone.

The five figures immediately lifted their legs forward, charging towards her.

Lena bit down on the test tube, tilted her head back, poured the liquid inside into her mouth, and with the Dagger raised, she met the charge of the five.

All her achievements in life had come without anyone else’s ’Enchantment’.

The slightly corrosive, blazing, scorching liquid passed through her throat, pouring into her insides, spreading the distorted Strength along with intense pain throughout her body.

She clenched her teeth, holding back a grunt, her movements unceasing as she lifted the Dagger and charged again at the five figures coming towards her.

The dark Sword Light danced in the darkness, passing over the neck of the man with the short Knife on the left, then the blade flipped, the tip thrust forward, stabbing into the heart of the second man on the left.

The speed of everything was extremely fast, the scattered glow momentarily appearing on the skin of the remaining three figures.

The man with the short knife on the right came at her with terrific Majesty, while at the same time, the last C-level figure also raised his giant hammer.

She suddenly sidestepped, flipping the black Dagger in her hand to block the giant hammer smashed by the last C-level Shadow, then leaned back, avoiding the piercing Thin Sword of the Intermediary.

At the same time, her long legs, covered in black stockings, kicked high, striking the wrist of the knife-wielding man.

With a pain-induced release, the short knife flew out.

At the same time, the black Dagger, carrying flowing light, slashed through the sky, piercing the knife man’s neck.

The Thin Sword’s Shadow brought the sword down in a stab, which she avoided with a roll.

And at that moment, the short knife she had just kicked flew just above where she had rolled to a stop; she reached out, caught the knife, and thrust it forward as she got up.

The sharp Knife pierced the heart of the Thin Sword’s Shadow, driving his body backward against the wall.

And at that time, the last figure with the giant hammer charged at her.

Lena raised her hand, the black Dagger spun in the air and landed in her palm, she gripped the Dagger again and stepped forward, colliding with the incoming hammer.

Bang—

With a crisp sound, the giant hammer-wielding Shadow lifted his head, looking at the red-haired woman’s blood-splattered, pale face.

For an instant, he felt that her beautiful visage was as terrifying as a Devil, a twisted panic spreading through his heart, his hands trembling involitively.

Lena immediately lunged forward, the black Dagger drew across the night, slicing through the neck of the giant hammer Shadow.

As the giant hammer Shadow fell to the ground, Lena’s body paused slightly, about to catch her breath when in that instant, a tremendous force grasped her neck and hoisted her up, crashing her body against the adjacent wall with a thunderous sound, sending countless chipped stones flying.

"Interesting, a promotion in the heat of battle? This enhancement, are you a ’Warrior’?"

The bald man with golden patterns covering his entire body stared at Lena, one hand grasping her neck, and the other hand, seizing her wrist, twisted violently.

Lena’s wrist loosened, and the bald man snatched her dagger, then lifting the hand on her neck, threw her out, smashing her to the ground like a rag doll.

"How could this..."

Lena struggled to sit up, coughing out blood, and watched the bald man with a shock.

"It seems you don’t know enough about the Extraordinary World. Don’t lump me together with these wastes,"

the bald man toyed with the dagger in his hand, casually spun it, the dagger trembling, trying to escape his grip, but no matter what, it couldn’t break free.

"Indeed, the Talent Sequences of warriors are very strong, but often, the gap between C-levels is as huge as the difference between humans and dogs, especially for us Believers with an ’Enchantment’. The power of the Divine Being is beyond your imagination."

"It’s nothing but exchanging someone else’s life for your own power."

Lena staggered to her feet, spat out the blood in her mouth, wiped the corner of her lips, and with a kick, sent a spiked boot into her hand.

Immediately without hesitation, she lunged with it towards the bald man.

The bald man raised his dagger, deflected Lena’s spiked boot, then kicked out fiercely, sending Lena flying again and crashing into the innermost wall.

After two collisions, the thick wall finally completely collapsed, revealing the spacious abandoned space inside.

The next second, the bald man suddenly appeared in front of the red-haired woman lying amidst the bricks. As Lena struggled to get up, he abruptly grasped her neck and lifted her up, smashing her against another wall with a loud thud.

"You have one last chance."

The towering Shadow completely covered the woman’s delicate frame, the bald man looked down, playing with the pitch-black dagger in his hand, "Killing you with your own dagger would be quite amusing, don’t you think?"

The sharp dagger inched forward, and in the midst of violent trembling, it pressed against the woman’s pale neck along the opened thumb of the bald man.

With fine blood traces emerging on the pale skin, a sinister smile crept across the bald man’s cheek as he looked at Lena and said in a slow tone,

"You, as a C-level warrior, now have the qualifications to be lured. One hundred million federal coins, tell me all you know and join us, how about it?"

Lena visibly flinched upon hearing the price.

"You should be aware of the strength of the Ancient Teachings. For us, this sum can be offered. I imagine, your partner can’t afford such a high price, and even within the Federation, there are few who can make such an offer."

Seeing this, the bald man smiled, his voice low like the Devil’s whisper,

"Think about it; you’re just a mercenary, with no obligation to keep secrets for anyone. Once your client dies, no one will know you made this deal."

Lena struggled to lift her gaze, the bald man’s action nearly suffocating her completely. She looked at the bald man, her throat pulsing slowly and laboriously.

"You’re nothing but a low-born mercenary, and loyalties mean nothing to you, you know how to choose."

Seeing this, a smile emerged on the bald man’s face as he slightly loosened his grasp, pulling back a bit.

Bang—

The steel-toed boot struck between the bald man’s legs.

The bald man’s expression twisted instantly.

"I’m sorry,"

Lena, with pallid, beautiful cheeks smeared with blood, slowly curved her lips, "A low-born mercenary doesn’t quite understand manners."

She tried to break free, but it was unsuccessful; the bald man’s hand around her neck never fully released.

"It looks like you really want to die."

The bald man’s face darkened completely, and he squeezed hard, pinning Lena against the wall.

He slowly inhaled, his face growing chillier, the sharp dagger inching its way into the woman’s neck.

Lena, her face turning blue, stared wide-eyed at the twisted-faced bald man in front of her, an intense feeling of suffocation enveloped her brain.

One hundred million, how long would she have to work to earn that much money?

She didn’t know.

It seemed she really wasn’t cut out to be a mercenary.

The light in her field of view gradually dimmed, the snowflakes in the sky blurring, death seemed to be arriving just like that.

That kid, was he really dead?

In the end, it seemed like nothing was accomplished.

"Slurp—"

The sound of a sharp blade sinking into flesh echoed in the quiet night, followed immediately by the heavy thud of a body hitting the ground.

"Cough cough—"

The enormous strength gripping her throat suddenly released, and the woman curled up and crashed to the ground, coughing violently.

The murky darkness gradually regained its luster, and the first thing to enter her field of view was a corpse, split in two on the ground.

A ghastly expression still lingered on that savage face, as glistening snowflakes melted into the fresh red blood.

Behind this bifurcated corpse stood a slim figure, covered in blood.

The blood dripped down the blade of the gleaming white sword onto the ground.

She slowly lifted her head until the face of the young boy was fully in view.

The boy stood amidst the fluttering snowflakes, quietly watching her, a faint smile on his lips as he reached out to her.

Snowflakes fell into the boy’s palm, then melted in his warm hand.

Lena also revealed a slight smile, reaching out and slowly grabbing hold of that hand.

She struggled to her feet, just about to speak, when she saw the boy’s face turned an unnatural, pallid white.

The boy opened his mouth but before he could make a sound, he staggered forward and collapsed.

She immediately reached out, catching the unconscious boy in her arms. After hurriedly checking for a pulse in his neck and finding it still beating, she breathed a sigh of relief.

He was too exhausted.

"This way, there’s fighting over here!!!"

An anxious shout came from the other end of the alley.

With the boy still unresponsive against her chest, she quickly sheathed her Knight’s Sword, shouldering the young boy with difficulty. She stepped over the bricks on the ground, making her way towards the space that had just been smashed open.

It appeared to be an abandoned factory. A few steps forward, a damaged iron door emerged.

A black Dagger flew out from behind Lena, like a streak of light, slicing through the rusted bolt of the iron door.

Lena pushed the iron door open.

Outside the iron door was a cramped alleyway.

"Quick, this way!"

Several figures in white robes scurried past the entrance of the alley.

Lena immediately halted her motion.

After waiting a moment, with no other sounds to be heard, she pushed open the door and walked into the alley.

She glanced at both sides of the alley and at the deep end, a towering edifice that blotted out the sky loomed in the darkness.

It was the iconic structure of the Storm Zone, the Storm Building.

That was also the most chaotic place in Wint City; once inside, one could basically shake off any pursuers.

She took a step forward, preparing to walk further down the alley.

"Don’t go there, there are many... Transcendents..."

The hoarse voice of the boy came from behind her, "Go the other way, towards the exit."

Lena looked towards the end of the alley and saw ragged people passing through one after another.

Theoretically, such a desolate alley wouldn’t see so many people.

"Is there something over there?"

She asked in a low voice.

"Perhaps..."

The boy’s voice grew fainter, "A church..."
