Chapter 793: Chapter 793: Turning Point (Big Chapter for Monthly Tickets)
At the moment when the golden glow disappeared before their eyes, the sound of violent shaking and collapsing pierced their ears.
Lena stood on the ground, looking around at the bizarrely twisted and various strange lights in the pitch-black space, momentarily bewildered.
The roaring vibration, accompanied by the sound of bricks and stones hitting the ground, came from all around, as if the entire space was shaking intensely.
"This is the church hall we entered earlier. After the Inner Church collapsed, there isn’t any Transcendent power supporting it anymore, so it’s likely going to collapse as well."
Along with the slight vibration of a wristband, a weak voice arose behind her, "Move forward, there’s a wall up ahead. If you shatter that wall, you should be able to get out. Without the protection of the Eternal Radiance’s power, breaking the wall should be easy."
"Okay!"
More and more bricks and stones fell from the sky, leaving Lena no time to hesitate. She reached out to drag the coffin on the ground, preparing to move forward, but then she felt a heavy ’resistance’.
Before she could even turn around, the weight on her hand suddenly lightened.
Amid the twisted, dim light around her, she saw a bloodied hand lift the golden sword which had been resting on the coffin, the tip of the sword touching the ground.
The ’heavy’ force she had felt was mostly coming from the golden sword.
"It’s okay, I can hold it," He Ao said in a low voice before she even had a chance to speak.
Hearing this, Lena did not hesitate. She dragged the coffin on the ground and sped forward; a black throwing knife flew out from her palm, transforming into a dark streak of light, crashing into the darkness ahead.
Boom—
As the black streak of light fluttered back and forth increasingly faster, the thick wall was quickly shattered, opening up a huge gap.
Brilliant starlight spilled into the pitch-black space from the quiet sky outside through the broken bricks and stones.
The falling rubble from the collapsed church roof poured down like torrential rain upon the two of them in action.
Lena moved quickly, reaching the gap in no time and leapt out.
At that moment, they were on the eighth floor of the main church building in the surface world. Opposite the damaged wall was a building with only six floors.
Lena, with He Ao and the coffin, crossed the street in an instant.
Then they crashed into the wall of the lower building.
Bang—
The golden sword stabbed into the load-bearing wall inside the building, and with the scattering of stone fragments, the two of them and the two coffins were stabilized, hanging on the wall of the small building.
Thunderous rumbles—
Accompanied by the resounding roar, the vast towering church building, along with the drifting dust, collapsed thunderously as if each level had been exploded with numerous explosives.
The impact kicked up a column of dust several meters high.
As the dust rose abruptly, He Ao tore off the straps Lena had used to bind him, grabbed her wrist, and, with a strong pull of his arm, he swung both Lena and the coffin she was carrying towards the roof of the lower building.
At the same time, he pulled out the Knight’s sword from behind, jammed it into the wall, and then suddenly withdrew the golden sword which hadn’t entered the wall too deeply, and forcefully grasped the Knight’s sword.
With a strong inertia, he drew out the Knight’s sword, bringing his body and the golden sword over the night sky under the stars, to land on the rooftop of the lower building.
"Cough—"
With a light cough, he sheathed the Knight’s sword back into its scabbard, then turned to look toward the church which had now collapsed into a pile of scattered ruins.
Some priests clad in white robes from the Eternal Secret Teachings and attackers in plain clothes from the Eternal Ancient Teachings crawled out of the rubble.
They seemed to be unclear about what had happened, confronting each other with no immediate start to a fresh battle.
However, it was clear that those from the Eternal Ancient Teachings were more numerous and stronger; almost everyone from the Eternal Secret Teachings had injuries.
The people of the Eternal Secret Teachings could have held out relying on the church’s terrain advantage, but now that the church had suddenly and inexplicably collapsed, this not only erased their advantage but also dealt a huge blow to their morale.
The people from the Eternal Ancient Teachings took the chance to surround them.
"You heretics, your blasphemous faith has incurred the wrath of the Divine Beings,"
The leader of the Eternal Ancient Teachings laughed heartily, "Your church is gone, it must be the Divine Beings who finally saw your filthy deeds and sent down the punishment of destruction, your time of death has come!"
His laughter echoed in the pitch-black space, and it was evident that his words dealt a further blow to the believers of the Eternal Secret Teachings.
However, He Ao did not fix his gaze on the sides locked in the ongoing battle, but rather tilted his head up to look at the distant night sky.
From the depths of that nighttime sky, it seemed as though the sound of thrusters roaring could be heard.
He Ao lifted his wristband to check the message that had just come in.
Ever since he had returned to the surface world, his wristband, now with a restored signal, had been continuously popping up with new messages.
He faintly remembered that the people from the Eternal Ancient Teachings seemed to have brought a small commercial signal jammer during their attack; now it seemed that the signal jammer must have been destroyed.
"How are you holding up now?"
Lena approached, looking at He Ao, who was covered in blood.
"Not a big deal, cough,"
He Ao coughed lightly, resting his body with the support of his golden greatsword and glanced once more at the distant night sky, "Just now, the collapse of the building concealed our traces, and the believers below can’t react in time, we need to leave here first."
He turned swiftly and looked toward the back of the small building; a black SUV was slowly approaching from the rear alley and stopped at the back of the building.
"Take that car to leave,"
He Ao glanced at Lena next to him and pointed to the black SUV that had just arrived, "That car will take you away from here."
Lena was taken aback, turning her head to look at He Ao, not immediately grasping what he said.
Meanwhile, He Ao turned to look at the coffins on the platform.
Both coffins seemed to be items from the Inner Church, falling into the surface world alongside the collapse of the Inner Church and rapidly decaying.
But He Ao had only intended to use these coffins to protect his parents’ corpses in the chaos; the coffins were now useless and would even expose their location because they were too conspicuous.
He Ao reached out, placing his hand on the coffin lid. He pushed to slide it open; halfway through, his body faltered, suddenly unable to fully push the lid open.
The suction between the coffin lid and the coffin itself hadn’t increased, and due to the decay of the coffin, it had even lessened a bit.
But he was too weak at the moment, even weaker than when he had returned from the Storm Sea.
Although Alice continued to heal his body, the high-intensity exhaustion and the use of Overlimit Powers had left his whole body utterly exhausted.
If he were to stop forcibly driving his body with sheer will, he would collapse immediately.
Even as he struggled to maintain his stature, he could only exert a bit of strength for a short time; long-term action was maintained only at the capacity of an ordinary person.
Seeing him this way, Lena immediately came forward to help him push the coffin board off.
He Ao looked down at his mother lying in the coffin as if she were asleep, silent for a moment, then reached out again to push the lid of the adjacent coffin.
Lena silently followed behind and helped.
Without the power of the Inner Church sustaining them, neither of the coffin lids floated as in the Inner Church but slid to the side, falling to the ground.
He Ao watched the two people lying in the coffins, falling into a brief silence.
The slight chill of the night wind brushed against his disheveled hair.
It also lifted Lena’s red hair,
"Your parents were good people."
Looking at the couple lying in the coffins, Lena sighed softly, "It’s just that this world is too rough."
The moment she heard the name ’Yiluo,’ she had guessed He Ao’s identity.
"They weren’t as good as you imagine,"
He Ao sighed lightly,
"My mother would often quarrel with my father over household expenses, saying to me that he didn’t earn enough from the company, which put a lot of burden and pressure on the family.
"After every quarrel, she would hide in her room and cry, then my father would buy her favorite mango cupcake and have me knock on the door to bring it in.
"She would always eat cake and say that my father and I were ’cut from the same cloth’."
"During the worst of times, my father thought more than once about selling the company for a low price, taking the money, and leaving this city forever."
"At that time, I would lie in my little coffin, watching him slouched on the sofa, chain-smoking one cigarette after another."
He reached out, pulled up the bodies of his parents, "They weren’t naturally pure and noble, just two ordinary people struggling in this city."
He looked up at Lena, "The SUV will take you to the set destination."
He had actually guessed Lena’s identity early on from the Eternal Secret Teachings material about the Withered Tree Bar he found in the Kate villa.
He just didn’t initially know what Lena came to the Inner Church for.
Lena was startled, realizing what He Ao meant. She looked at He Ao, "You’re not coming with us?"
The radiance in the distance grew closer, and one after another, the pitch-black Mechas, like ghosts from the depths of hell, emerged from the night sky.
"Someone has to stay behind to cover our retreat."
He Ao smiled at her, handing over the bodies he was holding.
Lena was stunned, staring at him blankly, "You’re just... handing them over to me?"
He Ao lifted his head, gazing at her, his deep eyes seemingly reflecting the profound vastness of stars,
"I trust you."
The voice was slow, carrying a hint of weak weariness, yet it was surprisingly clear.
A roaring noise erupted overhead, and a huge white Shadow covered their figures.
The giant white Mecha descended slowly, stopping behind the small building. The whirring of its jet propulsion brought a fierce wind that fluttered the boy’s blood-stained hair, his blood-red cloth, and the woman’s swaying red hair.
In the end, she looked at He Ao, and as if looking at the reflection of herself in his eyes, she reached out to take the bodies He Ao was supporting,
"Alright!"
Accompanied by a clear and simple acknowledgement, she didn’t hesitate, took the bodies, skirted the huge Mecha floating in the air, and leapt to the shorter building ahead, disappearing into the night.
Hum——
A violent vibration came from the bracelet, and He Ao answered the call.
"I set the Mecha for automatic navigation to the location you sent,"
Vili’s voice echoed in the night, "Do you see the Mecha?"
He Ao looked up at the pure white Mecha in the sky and said softly, "I see it."
Meanwhile, the pure white Mecha descended slowly as well, floating in the air, directing its chest towards where He Ao was standing.
"The Mecha has sensed your location. You sound off, are you injured?"
As Vili spoke, the cockpit door on the Mecha’s chest opened, revealing the empty cockpit inside.
"It’s nothing serious."
He Ao stepped forward, holding the golden greatsword, and jumped into the cockpit of the Mecha, "Just a bit weak."
"So what exactly happened..."
Vili’s voice was puzzled, "You previously messaged me saying that all the major powers were uniting to besiege the Eternal Secret Teachings. You should have the upper hand, so why the need for Mecha support now?"
"United Industries backstabbed the Federal Bureau of Investigation,"
He Ao walked towards the console, speaking slowly.
"What?"
Vili was confused.
"It seems United Industries and the Eternal Secret Teachings are secret allies,"
He Ao reached the console, summarizing the email from the Federal Bureau of Investigation that he had just seen on his bracelet, the development of the situation was somewhat unexpected, but it hadn’t gone far beyond his predictions,
"Ten minutes ago, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was ambushed by the United Industries’ Mercenary Corps while besieging the main force of the Eternal Secret Teachings. The followers of the Eternal Secret Teachings took advantage of the situation, breaking through the encirclement and, together with United Industries, defeated the forces of the Federal Bureau of Investigation."
He Ao had warned the Federal Bureau of Investigation to be cautious of United Industries early on, which is why, though the Federal Bureau was routed, they were not annihilated.
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone.
It felt like a very long time before Vili’s voice came through the phone, "So, what you’re facing now is..."
"Is United Industries’ Mecha troops coming to support the main church of the Eternal Secret Teachings."
He Ao glanced at the shapes of the Hell Apostle Mechs gradually emerging from the deep, dark shadows; pressing his palm onto the control panel to verify his biometric information, he obtained the control authority of this pure white Fallen Angel Mech.
With the sound of machinery whirring, the opened hatch quickly sealed shut.
Then he raised his hand, disengaged the remote automatic cruising system, and switched the entire mech control system to full manual.
"Sorry."
A light sigh came through on the other end of the phone.
"What do you have to apologize for," He Ao said slowly, "you don’t have any authority, nor can you issue orders to United Industries."
"...¿"
Vili’s somewhat exasperated voice came through the phone, "Can’t you speak more nicely? I even lent you the Mech to use, okay? This is a super-strong modified version of the Fallen Angel that I managed to get my hands on."
"Alright alright, thanks, Boss Lady."
He Ao nodded, swiftly flipping through various buttons on the control panel.
"I’m not the owner of a weapons shop!!!"
Vili immediately corrected him.
"Uh-huh, the Boss Lady is right."
He Ao nodded again.
There was a sound of grating teeth through the phone.
After a while, as if hearing the slow and difficult movement of He Ao’s joystick, the voice on the other end quieted down, speaking softly, "Do you need remote control assistance?"
After a short pause, the voice’s owner seemed to realize the ambiguous nature of her statement and quickly added, "I’m not worried about your body, you know. If your skills aren’t good and you damage my Mech, it’d be a huge loss for me."
He Ao slowly took off the blood-stained bracelet from his wrist, connected it to the Mech’s control panel, and then said calmly, "Trust me."
There was a pause on the other end, and finally, slowly, "Okay then."
Her voice then dropped a little, "Don’t worry too much about the Mech either, I’m not short on cash. If it comes to it, I’ll get another one... Just be careful."
"Sure."
He Ao, with one hand firmly on the joystick, nodded slightly.
He reached out and hung up the phone.
"Eve."
He Ao, his other hand also gripping the joystick, called out softly.
"Fallen Angel Mech Suit Operation System loaded successfully,"
A gentle female voice reverberated through the cockpit, "All systems ready."
"Then let’s see the limit of this Mech!" He Ao exclaimed forcefully, suddenly pulling the joystick.
Beams of light, which had been dimmed, started spreading rapidly from the control panel throughout the entire cockpit.
The pure white Mech reached out its hand, drawing the giant sword from its back.
