Chapter 730: Chapter 730: Survivor? (Vote for Monthly Ticket)
Thud—
"Have we arrived?"
As the door behind them shattered, He Ao released Feiya’s hand, pulled the jade pendant from the Pirate Treasure Box that was nearly failing to hold up, placed it back on his chest, and turned his head to look around.
It seemed that they were now in a spacious corridor, with a faint soft light shining down from above their heads, illuminating the walls and the floor made of stone and metal.
This soft light came from a dim lamp overhead; it only lit a small area beneath their feet. Beyond this, there was darkness that seemed to devour everything.
"We should be."
Feiya nodded, took out a flashlight from the small bag she was carrying, turned around, and shone it behind them.
The flashlight’s feeble glow illuminated the corner of the corridor, revealing a wall that blocked the entire passage.
"No doors, it looks like we can only move forward."
She said as she turned back around.
"Do you hear something?"
At that moment, He Ao asked softly.
"Hmm?"
Feiya was initially startled but then her expression quickly grew serious.
A very subtle collision sound was coming from the darkness ahead, resembling the footsteps of a heavy object pressing against the ground, but it was controlled to be extremely faint; even with her C-level physical stature, she could only hear bits and pieces of sound.
This sound was rapidly approaching,
Fifty meters, thirty meters, ten meters.
The flashlight that had been pointing downward was suddenly raised, and in the pitch-black corridor, a twisted visage, like a mixture of human and sheep, appeared within their field of view.
It was a four-legged creature nearly two meters tall, its body covered in sparse, jet-black fur. Between the tufts of fur, the writhing crimson flesh underneath was faintly visible.
It opened its mouth, revealing sharp and stinking teeth, and lunged ferociously at Feiya’s fair neck with the flashlight.
In that instant, Feiya sidestepped with a spin, jumped up, and delivered a whip-like kick to the creature’s head.
The tip of her high heel collided with the creature’s cheek, producing a crisp sound.
Meanwhile, a white brilliance flashed past, slicing across the creature’s neck.
Accompanied by blood splattering in the darkness, the creature’s twisted head fell to the ground, and its massive body collapsed with a thud.
"Impressive!"
He Ao sheathed his bone sword and gave Feiya, who was beside him, a thumbs-up.
His gaze swept over Feiya’s pair of pristine high heels.
The harsh collision had not affected the shape of the high heels in the slightest, nor had it left a scratch on the surface.
From its rigid contour, it seemed to be a piece of ’special equipment’ crafted from some sort of hard alloy.
"This was made from a metal I found in the ruins before,"
Feiya saw He Ao’s gaze and explained gently.
Then she returned the compliment, "The main attack was yours, I just drew the creature’s attention for a moment. You finished it off in one move, that’s what is truly impressive."
Her whip kick had not actually inflicted much damage on the creature; it was mainly to draw aggro and catch the creature’s attention, making it easier for He Ao to attack.
Of course, He Ao wasn’t complimenting her for dealing significant damage, but for knowing her role from the start, effectively using the flashlight to shine on the creature’s face, and for ’taunting’ it.
Her maneuvers had spared He Ao a lot of trouble.
Even in regular circumstances, He Ao could have easily dealt with the creature, but it would have taken extra moves and thought. Unlike now, he could focus on seeking weaknesses and swiftly end the creature in one strike.
This was the first time He Ao and Feiya had fought together, but the result was surprisingly good.
Considering Feiya’s abilities demonstrated before, she was not likely to belong to a combat-related Talent Sequence. However, it now appeared that she was very experienced in combat, capable of rapidly assessing the situation, finding her position, and coordinating with her teammate.
And her physical condition is not bad either, she ranks among the stronger batch within C-level.
This girl looks gentle and quiet, but deep down, she is ruthless.
For He Ao, having such a teammate to cooperate with meant fewer problems, especially when they were facing a map with high danger suspected to be an ’Underground Palace’.
"So, are we just flattering each other in a businesslike manner?"
He Ao smiled, squatted down, and casually split open the monster’s body with the bone sword in his hand.
Feiya stood by with a flashlight, quietly watching him.
She understood very well that the monster in front of her was strong, nearly at the peak of C-level; the blow she had just delivered had barely scratched it.
Even so, this powerful monster, even with her distracting it, the young man before her had taken it down with a single move.
She had heard some information about ’He Ao’ before and had numerous expectations regarding his strength, but this was truly excessively powerful.
Sizzle—
The sound of crackling electricity brought her thoughts back to reality, and she shifted her attention to the monster’s corpse that He Ao had opened up.
Under the squirming flesh and skin of the massive monster, there were wires and metal strips intertwined with the flesh.
"What is this?"
Feiya looked somewhat bewildered at everything inside the monster, seemingly unable to comprehend this peculiar structure.
"A monster fused with both flesh and machinery."
He Ao pried apart the mechanical parts inside the monster, most of which had already entwined with the flesh, forming a structure akin to a skeletal support.
"Have you ever seen such a monster before?"
Feiya looked at He Ao’s face, seemingly having thought of something, and asked in a low voice.
"On the Navigator,"
He Ao nodded and slowly stood up, "though there is still a bit of a difference."
Compared to the mostly mechanical Polluted Monsters on the Navigator, the monster before him was clearly flesh-dominated, with machinery as a supplement.
In the midst of conversation, He Ao’s gaze drifted behind the monster; Feiya promptly shone the flashlight in that direction.
The rocky floor was covered with various deep-red bloodstains, on which there were faint, shallow footprints.
These footprints resembled those of a goat and matched the monster’s hooves.
The only discrepancy was that there were too many of these footprints.
"These are, group-living monsters?"
Feiya stared at these footprints, momentarily stunned, then said with some disbelief.
Monsters at the peak of C-level that lived in groups were somewhat too frightening.
"If we were in ruins, it would actually be quite normal,"
He Ao shook his head.
His first time entering the ruins, he encountered C-level group-living monsters, and the bone sword in his hand was made by sharpening a bone extracted from the body of one such monster he had killed.
Of course, besides group-living C-level monsters, he also encountered two B-level monsters that time.
Feiya lifted her head, looking blankly at He Ao.
She always felt that He Ao’s definition of ’normal’ was not quite the same as hers; she had never seen swarms of C-level monsters when she entered the ruins.
Everyone in the ruins would be moving inside the newcomer’s protection circle, and encountering one or two C-level monsters meant one had ’struck it big’.
However, He Ao was not concerned about Feiya’s surprise and instead examined the footprints closely.
These footprints overlapped chaotically not far in front of them, suggesting that many monsters had lingered here.
He walked to the center of these footprints, gazing at a patch of dried deep-red blood on the ground, his brow furrowed.
Feiya also came over and peered in the direction He Ao was looking, discerning the bloodstains.
These bloodstains blended into the dark red ground, making them hard to spot without careful observation.
"Is there something wrong with these bloodstains?"
Feiya watched the stains with confusion, her brow furrowed in thought, "Had there been a battle here before we arrived?"
"This might be human blood."
He Ao’s gaze shifted from the bloodstains to the deep, dark corridor ahead.
In some sense, the environment of the ruins is akin to the wilderness of the Copy World.
In the wilderness, it is quite easy to differentiate between the bloodstains of ordinary humans.
All creatures with Transcendent powers have influences in their blood. Their blood would be mixed with traces of energy, making anomalies detectable at a glance.
Including the Polluted Monsters He Ao had just killed, the fresh blood splattered at his feet bore a slight greyish glow.
Only the blood of ordinary humans showed no change, it looked unremarkable.
Yet, this unremarkable blood became conspicuous amidst a bunch of anomalies.
He Ao had inherited many wilderness survival skills from Ronald’s memories, including how to distinguish between human and exotic beast blood.
Although this bloodstain had been there for some time, it was still easily discernible.
"Are there other people here?"
Feiya blinked, she too looked towards the depths of the dark corridor as if she had thought of something, "But there are no footprints, right? Could they be ordinary people who stumbled into those ’doors’?"
The stone slabs on the ground and the bloodstains were harder than expected, and it was difficult for light-weight ordinary people to leave noticeable footprints.
Feiya had also received reports before of people going missing inside ’doors’.
She paused, glanced at the footprints on the ground, then continued, "Here... those ordinary people..."
She didn’t finish her sentence, but the implication was clear.
In a place where C-level peak monsters roam in groups, ordinary humans would have almost no hope of survival.
"The bloodstains are beneath the footprints,"
He Ao understood all of this too, his eyes fixed on the darkness ahead, "Let’s go up and take a look."
"Okay!"
Feiya nodded her head.
After taking a few steps forward, a ’|-’ shaped intersection appeared before them. To their right, in the original straight corridor, a somewhat concealed transversely connected passageway linked to the corridor.
This sideways passage was actually very close to He Ao and his companion’s initial entrance point, but it had gone unnoticed due to its placement on the right and its surrounding darkness.
He Ao switched on his flashlight and shone it down the horizontal passage. Inside, there were many footprints of monsters, but they were oriented towards where He Ao was currently standing.
Beneath He Ao’s feet, the previously jumbled footprints left by the monsters began to show a clear direction, moving straight ahead along the main corridor. Not too far ahead of them, new and faint bloodstains started to emerge.
"Those monsters came from that transverse passage,"
Feiya observed all this, analyzing it as she followed He Ao forward,
"They might have been attracted by the scent of that ordinary person’s fresh blood.
"After they exited the passage, they first turned left, arrived at the spot we were just at, saw those bloodstains but found no one, then they turned and followed the trail of blood along this main corridor."
She paused, as if realizing something, "So when these monsters arrived, the ’ordinary person’ who had stumbled into this place had already gone far ahead? His wounds were not inflicted by the monsters, but were pre-existing, and it’s possible he’s still alive?"
By now, she finally understood the meaning behind He Ao’s earlier statement of ’bloodstains under the footprints’.
He Ao nodded, turned off his flashlight, and continued ahead with Feiya, "If he’s lucky."
"That person is injured and much slower than these monsters, he can’t have gone far."
Feiya nodded too, although she knew that hope was very slim.
Boom—
The two moved at an extremely fast pace. Having traveled nearly ten meters, a loud collision echoed from up ahead.
It seemed to be the sound of some heavy object striking the wall.
After exchanging a glance, they lightened their steps, turned off their flashlights, and quietly approached.
Soon, the dim light became visible after reaching a corner.
Four monsters, just like the ones they had killed earlier, were crowded under the light, furiously slamming against a gate on the left side of the corridor.
Hiding behind the corner, He Ao scanned beneath the monsters’ feet.
No shattered clothing and no broken bones or flesh—this might be good news.
Through the dim light, He Ao glanced at Feiya beside him and whispered,
"Three C-level peaks, one beyond C-level peak."
Feiya paused as if deep in thought, then in a hushed tone, "Within five meters, I can briefly slow these monsters down, but it can only last for three seconds."
The monsters were almost five meters in length.
Within five meters was already a very dangerous distance.
After pondering for a moment, He Ao nodded slightly, "Follow me."
Then he eyed the monsters and, like an arrow off its string, dashed out with Feiya close behind him.
His speed was fast, but deliberately controlled so as not to leave Feiya behind, having estimated her maximum speed as they were running over.
As soon as they appeared, the monster on the outermost side was drawn to them.
It tapped its foot on the ground, then charged like the wind, aiming straight for He Ao.
But He Ao positioned his bone sword across his chest, ready to meet the charge head-on.
As the monster neared He Ao, its body suddenly stiffened, seemingly losing control, watching helplessly as He Ao slashed horizontally with his bone sword, cutting through its body and continuing forward with blood spraying in his wake.
By then, the other three monsters had also reacted.
Two of them, one after the other, one to the left and one to the right, charged straight at He Ao.
He Ao, having just sliced through the first monster, saw the oncoming attack and gripped his sword with both hands, swinging it like an axe.
A pure white sword light drew a pristine moon arc in the air, decapitating the right-side monster as it pounced, and then, with a seamless motion, he sliced downward to behead the left-side monster.
At that moment, the strongest monster, sensing something was amiss, immediately turned to flee.
But He Ao, following the momentum of his sword, somersaulted onto the yet-to-fall body of the left-side monster. He gripped the hilt and, with a burst of strength, threw it forward.
The pure white sword light streaked through air like a shooting star, piercing the neck of the last monster in an instant, with the sword tip sinking into the rock, pinning its massive body to the ground.
He Ao stepped forward, leaped from the monster’s body, and accompanied by a series of thuds, the huge monsters collapsed behind him.
All these developments were exceedingly fast, almost within the blink of an eye, four monsters lay dead there.
He Ao walked over to the pinned monster, pulled the short sword out of its body, allowing the blood to naturally run down the blade, and turned around, catching Feiya’s gaze as she stood amid the bodies with wide eyes and a slightly agape mouth.
"You did well," he said with a smile.
"You’re too strong," Feiya folded her surprised expression, still showing a hint of amazement in her eyes, "Without me, you would have easily killed them anyway."
"But not as easily," He Ao shook his head.

Just at that moment, along with a muffled sound, the metal gate that had been battered by monsters and was slightly deformed began to open slowly.
