Chapter 714: Chapter 714: Pseudo-A-Level Items (Extra Large Chapter for Monthly Votes)
Roaring, chaos, distortion.
The first thing that reached He Ao’s ears was a howling noise that seemed as though it would rend his soul apart.
This was some form of polluted power.
But this polluted power was different from the ones He Ao had encountered before, it did not lead people towards chaos, nor did it heighten human desires to the extreme.
If anything, this pollution made He Ao feel more like Jess when he entered the critical state of madness, the sensation of being invaded by the truth after peering into it.
It traveled along the connected Divine Sense into He Ao’s body, and then surged into his soul. But at the same time, the truth of the world unfolded before He Ao.
Almost in that instant, He Ao felt as if his soul was being drawn out of his body, and the entire world unfolded in his ’vision’ in a twisted form.
He saw his own skin and blood vessels appear in his sight, he saw the energy flowing within his body, he saw the ’undulating’ energy lines that followed the flow of energy.
He Ao had also used his Divine Sense to ’introspect’ his body, but even the ’vision’ provided by the Divine Sense had never been so clear in displaying these energy flows before him.
He could clearly see every minute fluctuation of those energy lines as thin as hairs.
He watched these energy lines, his brow slightly furrowed.
Every beat of these energy lines seemed to step on a fundamental string of the world, filled with a rhythm almost fused with nature itself.
This proved that He Ao’s energy circulation was normal.
He often used Divine Sense for introspection, adjusting his energy lines to keep them unobstructed and clear.
But even if the energy lines were perfect in the minutiae, on a larger, overall scale, they seemed a bit ’discordant’ to him at this moment.
He couldn’t articulate exactly why they were discordant, but he knew that the pathway they followed was off.
But he was actually quite clear on the source of the issue, as his Martial Arts were self-taught, lacking the guidance of predecessors, not to mention a complete secret manual.
The energy circuit he trained in now was something he had figured out on his own by comparing the incomplete sixth page of a little book with the Martial Arts books he saw from Elijah.
He knew his training method must be flawed, but he had no idea where the problem lay. Even Divine Sense could only tell him where the energy did not flow smoothly and could use some adjustment, but it wouldn’t tell him if the energy should flow this way or if it was supposed to follow this circuit.
However, in his current state, he could clearly feel the dissonance of these circuits.
So he began to closely observe these lines, and as his focus intensified, the chaotic noise ringing in his mind grew louder. At the same time, he felt his spirit rapidly tiring.
Even though he could resist the corruption, it seemed he did not have much time to remain in this state.
Not knowing exactly where the problem in the circuits lay, he started with the most discordant one, adjusting on ’intuition’.
This sort of adjustment was akin to a directionless exhaustive search, but fortunately, because he often introspected with Divine Sense, he had a fair understanding of the energy paths within his body.
And he sensed his circuits were ’discordant’ rather than ’wrong’, which indicated that his training path was largely correct; otherwise, he would not have been able to break through normally.
Therefore, the scope of his ’exhaustive search’ was significantly reduced.
After the eighth attempt, he finally felt the strong ’dissonance’ disappear.
In response came an extreme ’comfort’, like an obsessive-compulsive person who had finally placed two asymmetrical objects symmetrically, a wonderful, coherent ’comfort’.
Simultaneously, he felt the flow of energy inside his body speed up by a bit.
And in that instant, his head spun, his Divine Sense withdrew from the jade pendant, and he fell backward, collapsing directly onto the bed.
The sensation of peering into ’truth’ and the high-point view disappeared in an instant, leaving only a tear-like severe headache.
His spirit could no longer sustain this kind of ’peeking’.
The pollution’s shriek, the intense headache, and a somewhat dazed mental confusion rushed towards He Ao’s consciousness one after another.
He took a deep breath and lay on the bed.
Most of the ’knowledge’ he had just peeked at was fading fast, but He Ao still made a note of those circuits that felt discordant.
He began carefully, enduring the severe headaches, to adjust his body’s circuits without that super-perspective.
Then he waited a while, till his spirit felt a bit better, and once again immersed his Divine Sense into the jade pendant.
The next second, he re-entered that high-point ’peeking’ view, but this time, he just glanced at his body and immediately withdrew his Divine Sense.
This time, the overall dissonance of his body’s circuits hadn’t disappeared, but one could clearly feel that some of the discordance had lessened.
So he continued to adjust his internal energy pathways like this, checking with the jade pendant ’look’ after each adjustment to ensure he was on the right track.
As time passed second by second, when the sky neared daybreak, he finally adjusted all the circuits to their ’optimal’ positions.
He lay on the bed, gasping for breath in big gulps, with sweat sliding down his cheeks.
His headache was still intense, perhaps even more so, but he felt a comfort in his body he had never experienced before.
It was as if he had always been carrying a mountain on his back; he knew there was a problem but was so accustomed to it that it didn’t feel abnormal.
But now, the mountain was gone, and his body was liberated, making him feel as light as if he were stepping on clouds.
His energy operating efficiency had increased by at least 20%.
The most significant improvement was in his cultivation speed, his energy conversion efficiency had at least doubled compared to before, which meant that, as long as there was enough energy, his martial arts training speed was now twice as fast as before.
Unfortunately, there was almost no energy available for cultivation in the main world.
During the time the relic descended, he was barely able to practice cultivation at the place he was now, but after the relic’s descent ended, the energy intensity around him had returned to normal.
In the main world, normal was equivalent to having none.
At this thought, He Ao suddenly paused.
He abruptly sat up from the bed.
How could he sense the energy conversion efficiency if there was no energy?
He lowered his head and gazed at the palm of his hand.
Due to the severe headache, the fatigue from entering the high-level state of "Peering into the Truth," and the constant focus on adjusting the energy circuit, he hadn’t noticed some other subtle changes.
For instance, a tiny and stable flow of energy was emerging from the jade pendant and seeping into He Ao’s body, where it was naturally absorbed and transformed.
This jade pendant contains energy and can even output it?
He Ao was slightly startled.
He watched the jade pendant in his hand, which meant that he could now normally continue his martial arts training even in the main world.
He recalled that these energies seemed to have started flowing out after the first time his divine sense touched the jade pendant.
Was this one of the ’core abilities’ that the system mentioned, usable only by high-ranking martial artists?
But where did the energy in this jade pendant come from?
During his previous divine sense incursions into the jade pendant, he had been distracted by the particular state of Peering into the Truth and had not truly paid attention to the actual structure within the jade pendant.
After pondering for a moment, he once again summoned his divine sense and immersed it into the jade pendant.
This time, he completely abandoned focusing on anything else and concentrated all his attention on sensing the inner structure of the jade pendant.
The blood traces within the jade pendant ebbed and flowed.
The next second, a more violent storm of contamination swept through He Ao’s consciousness, and what appeared in his perception at the same time was a vast sea of ’energy,’ as immense as the ocean itself.
The energy pouring out of the jade pendant was merely a drop in the bucket compared to this vast ocean.
He Ao tried to manipulate these energies, but they did not respond at all; he seemed incapable of truly controlling the jade pendant.
The violent contamination endlessly assaulted He Ao’s mind while his spirit and divine sense also rapidly depleted.
He Ao felt like he was a bamboo leaf boat in a storm, easily capsized by the torrent.
Braving such a furious ’storm,’ he further immersed his divine sense deep into the jade pendant.
In his divine sense perception, an immense expanse, as if filled with infinite truth, of ’blood traces’ came into view.
At this point, the storm of contamination had grown even more intense, and He Ao felt like he could barely hear anything from the outside world.
But his actions didn’t stop; he mobilized his divine sense to ’lure’ that vast expanse of ’blood stains.’
The moment his divine sense touched the ’blood stains,’ an even more ferocious surge of contamination instantly invaded his soul, then spilled into his body, and grayish glowing blood flowed out from the corners of his mouth and nostrils.
But his actions did not cease, he continued to attempt to lure, and the vast, seemingly between material and energy, blood stains trembled, then followed the direction of the divine sense’s lure and drifted ’a wisp’ outward.
It’s possible?
He Ao paused briefly.
And in the instant he paused, the previously drifting blood stains retracted a bit.
If not solidified by an external force, these blood stains would quickly return to their original state.
He Ao pondered for an instant.
He had just over three paths of divine sense remaining, having used more than half of the original seven paths when entering the Copy World.
Then without hesitation, he activated Super Memory, pouring all of his remaining divine sense into the jade pendant.
Under the guidance of Super Memory’s powerful mental strength, these divine senses divided into several different forces, piercing through the energy within the jade pendant, touching the vast blood stains, and began rapidly guiding these stains outward.
Soon, strands of bright red traces were drawn out, extending into complex patterns.
He Ao, enduring the violent contamination, connected these patterns bit by bit, forming the outline of a huge and intricate ’Array.’
A Control Array pointing towards ’K.’
At this moment, his spirit had become extremely weak, to the point where even his soul trembled, and his divine sense was fading away as rapidly as boiling water, but his actions did not stop for an instant.
Finally, when the last line of the Array was outlined, He Ao felt his body suddenly lighten.
An invisible bond now linked him to the jade pendant in his hand.
Sweat and blood soaked his clothes, covering his cheeks, appearing bizarre and grotesque under the bright light.
He Ao turned off his Super Memory and gazed at the jade pendant in his hand, now able to manipulate the energy within it.
However, his operations did not cease; he quickly drew on the pendant’s energy to stabilize the newly-formed Control Array.
To prevent the bloodstains that constituted the Array from retracting and causing the Array to collapse.
Then he pondered for a moment and slightly increased the flow of energy emanating from the jade pendant.
That energy rapidly entered He Ao’s body, following the circulation of his internal energy and gathering at his chest.
Soon, He Ao adjusted the surging energy to the maximum level that his body could bear and absorb.
The energy was swiftly transformed and absorbed, forming a whirl of Qi.
He Ao estimated that, at this rate of cultivation, it would take him just over a day to form a new Divine Sense.
Constructing the Control Array had consumed two of his Divine Senses, but now it seemed that the sacrifice was worthwhile.
He Ao shook the jade pendant in his hand and hung it around his neck.
As long as the pendant was near his skin, it seemed to provide a continuous supply of energy.
He Ao could distinctly feel that, even though he had increased the output, the released energy was still but a drop in the ocean compared to what was stored in the pendant.
This energy far surpassed what a C-level individual should possess.
Now that he had full control over the pendant, he could not only manage the output of energy but also gather all the energy together and release it in one go.
He Ao did not know how much damage such a release could cause, but he was confident that a C-level Martial Artist could not deal such harm.
He guessed that this intensity of energy might already be close to an Angel’s strike.
Of course, after such a release, there would be no energy left in the pendant for He Ao’s cultivation, so this kind of release could only be kept as a trump card.
It was uncertain whether the energy in the pendant could be replenished.
This jade pendant did not come with a feature guide like other Transcendent items, so He Ao could only explore its uses on his own.
So far, he had discovered three functions,
The first, upon allowing his Divine Sense to immerse in the pendant, would trigger contamination within it, providing a glimpse of ’Peering into the Truth,’ which leaned towards Martial Arts Training and greatly aided it.
The second was that it stored a vast amount of energy, which, after gaining full control of the pendant, he could use for cultivation or release as a trump card.
The third, when simply worn naturally without doing anything, made his thoughts regarding Martial Arts appear clearer, seemingly what the system referred to as ’boosting comprehension.’
Currently, He Ao did not know if the pendant harbored any other abilities, but these three features were already sufficiently extraordinary.
Yet, the system was fair, and considering the other two reward options, this reward was indeed around C-level.
Without the contamination, this jade pendant would likely be just an ordinary C-level item; most of its peculiarities now probably stemmed from the ’divine blood’ that had seeped into it.
Based on He Ao’s long experience with Divine Beings, this blood was most likely from a Divine Being.
Of course, this did not mean that with the contamination, the jade pendant became an inherently good thing.
Given the spiritual resistance of a typical Martial Artist or a Transcendent who had undertaken Martial Arts Training, let alone the continuous contamination from carrying the pendant, just the momentary shock of contamination when Divine Sense permeated the pendant would be enough to drive a C-level individual completely insane.
Not to mention having to use Divine Sense to guide the Divine Being’s blood to inscribe the Control Array, an act of sacrilege that brought contamination almost as close as contacting the Divine Being itself.
This was not a good thing and in the traditional sense, the troubles of this jade pendant outweighed those of the other two rewards, the flute and the cross.
Therefore, the system’s warnings about this pendant were the most severe.
But as it happened, He Ao had some resistance to these troubles, which made it a good thing for him.
At this moment, with no intervention, a slight pollution was oozing from the pendant into He Ao’s body.
However, He Ao was currently wearing the Mechanical Core ring and The Fake Master Bracelet, both of which came with their own pollution.
Thus, the pollution from the pendant, eager to invade He Ao’s consciousness, was instead bullied by the two old guards of contamination and relegated to a corner.
"Ah!!!"
Having finally settled the issue with the pendant, He Ao stretched languorously.
It was then that he noticed a line of text in his field of vision that hadn’t dissipated.
[Super Exchanger Mission Progress: 14/12]
[Congratulations on completing the Super Exchanger task.]
[The Exchange System is upgrading...]
[Upgrade countdown 154:58:45]
He Ao glanced at the countdown for the next Copy World’s start in the lower right corner of his field of vision, which was also 154 hours.
It seemed that the Exchange System upgrade and the opening of the Copy World were synchronized.
And as He Ao noticed this line of text, it gradually disappeared from his sight.
After pondering for a moment, he opened the character card interface.
The character cards appeared in front of him as usual.
It looked like the Exchange System upgrade did not affect the normal use of the system’s functions.
In the top right corner of the character card interface, the countdown for this upgrade was displayed.
Wonder what will come out of the upgrade.
He Ao closed the character card interface, thought for a moment, and opened his personal attributes.
[He Ao]
[Permission Level: Advanced Player]
[Physical Fitness: 1199]
[Skills: Talent Sequence 272: Super Memory (C-level), Basic Firearms Proficiency, Talent Sequence 72: Secret Mage (C-level)]
[Mechanical Modification: None]
[Martial Arts: Qi Refinement and Spirit Transformation (C-level)]
Physical fitness had increased, from 1194 to 1199.
This must be the growth from martial arts training after obtaining the jade pendant.
The last time He Ao experienced such a direct increase in martial arts training was when he was very weak, while he was in the ruins.
He closed the attribute interface, stood up, walked to the window, and drew back the curtains.
The first light of daybreak caressed his cheeks.
The Rodan Kingdom where he was now located had a time difference from Central Earth; the sunrise was several hours later here.
Although he now had the jade pendant supplying energy, he still absorbed the energy from the dawn.
Can’t waste it.
Whether it was an influence from the jade pendant or not, he could distinctly feel that today’s dawn energy seemed to be more than usual.
After absorbing the energy of the dawn, He Ao touched the bloodstain on his face, then walked toward the bathroom to take a shower.
But just as he pushed open the door to the bathroom, a sudden thought struck him, and he halted his motion.
He lowered his head, his gaze passing through the crack of the slightly open bathroom door.
Reflected in his eyes was not the clean wall or the floor illuminated by bright light.
Instead, it was a cold stone wall, damp moss, and the sound of dripping water filled the air.
Drip—drip.
A drop of cold liquid fell in front of He Ao’s field of vision.
He looked up, towards the ceiling.
A huge, flesh-and-blood eyeball was hanging above the slit of the bathroom door, looking downward, as if watching He Ao, or perhaps observing some other object.
Droplets of vivid red fluid were continuously falling along the edges of the eyeball.
The next second, this dark and bizarre vision gradually disappeared, and the crack in the door returned to the normal appearance of the bathroom.
He Ao fully opened the bathroom door and looked up again.
Above him was only white, the vague light from a lamp.
The entire scene just now looked like a mirage, an illusion.
Hum—
At that moment, his cell phone started to vibrate.
