Chapter 602: Chapter 602: The 9th Official Mission Settlement (Massive Chapter for Monthly Tickets)
[The task evaluation is being settled...]
He Ao shifted his gaze away from the text in his field of vision and then opened the character card page in the top left corner.
The familiar card background appeared once again in his view.
The cards floated before him in a row, specifically Joey’s [Primeval Flame], Vian’s [King of Nightfall], Nell’s [Usurper], and Pete’s [Saint].
All four cards were obtained by He Ao before, but only the [King of Nightfall] was colorful and usable; the other cards were grayed out.
Last time when the copy world session settled, the [King of Nightfall] entered a cooldown phase; now, it seemed the cooldown had ended.
He Ao focused his gaze on the [Primeval Flame], and soon, a window popped up.
[Do you want to pay 3 Exchange Stars to exchange for the ’Primeval Flame’? (Exchange Stars currently available to you: 4)]
These four Exchange Stars were obtained from the last copy world session. Since He Ao didn’t use the character card function during this session, he was able to save them.
He Ao had tried before; during the copy world process, character cards could also be exchanged, so he didn’t need to hurry to use these Exchange Stars and could wait to exchange for the appropriate character cards when needed.
He Ao moved his gaze away from the [Primeval Flame] and looked towards the [Usurper] and [Saint] behind it. As he gazed at these two cards, no window popped up; they remained unexchangeable.
Moving his gaze further back, past the [Saint], he saw a new card with its back facing him.
As He Ao watched, the card slowly flipped over, revealing the image on the front.
At the top of the image, countless flickering purple dots gathered together, forming an indistinct, ethereal human figure.
Surrounding these dots were rippling water patterns, as if suggesting that these dots were somewhere deep in the sea.
And on the innermost part of the card, in the deepest realm of this dark sea, a massive shadow, revealing only a small portion of its body, seemed to be flickering in and out of sight.
The moment He Ao set eyes on this shadow, that familiar jumble of chaotic thoughts burst into his mind once more.
He Ao’s eyes moved downward to read the inscription below the card.
[Sea-Deep Glimmer]
The so-called glimmer must be the purple dots in the image, which looked similar to the light points formed by the ’husks’ He Ao had ultimately controlled within the wooden chest.
After the mission ended, He Ao could no longer perceive these dots at all. Initially, he thought they had been completely destroyed, but from the looks of this card, they had not been utterly annihilated and had somehow formed a mysterious effect.
Inside Jess’s soul, there was a portion that had been contaminated by that hidden Great Being, the source of Jess’s madness. He Ao could also sense these contaminations as whispers while in the copy world.
These contaminations maintained a deep connection between Jess and that secretive entity.
After He Ao returned to the prime world, the contaminations had disappeared.
He Ao suspected that the human figure in the [Sea-Deep Glimmer] was an existence formed by those contaminated parts combined with the remaining ’husk’ light points.
This situation was not part of He Ao’s original plan and likely wasn’t an act by the fuming Witch of Desire at the time either.
The matter was simple then, the only entity capable of such an act, present at the scene, was another Higher Being—the one hidden in the deep sea, attempting to return from the dead.
Wells had once told He Ao, Jess’s soul had a much higher affinity with that secretive entity than he did. Considering Jess’s contamination, it’s possible Jess was a contingency piece left by that secretive entity.
In the last moments of the Witch of Desire’s tumultuous rage, the hidden entity might have strained every effort to save Jess, preserving the contaminated part of him.
However, Wells was likely dead for good; the Witch of Desire might not have had as close a relationship with He Ao as a good friend who funded her own advent, but she was still a very reliable friend, and the lightning she provided for He Ao was quite powerful.
With the first bolt of lightning, Wells was truly dead.
He Ao brought his gaze back to the picture on the card, which likely represented the current environment of ’Jess’, the ’deep sea’.
This deep sea was probably not a physical one, but rather a conceptual sea of thought.
It appeared that this ’deep sea’ could very well be the resting place of that hidden entity, and saving ’Jess’ from it could hardly be considered an act of pure benevolence.
With the help of his friend, He Ao destroyed all his resurrection arrangements. He saved Jess and absorbed Jess into the deep sea, likely preparing for the next resurrection layout.
Well, from such behavior, he still seems quite passionate.
Much better than those friends who were indifferent when they first met.
It’s just a pity that his strength is a bit lacking, and he’s still dead.
He Ao retracted his thoughts. As he was looking at the new card, another pop-up had already appeared.
[Do you want to pay 5 Exchange Stars to exchange for "Sea-Deep Glimmer"? (Your current available Exchange Stars: 4)]
This card can be exchanged.
Though it requires two more Exchange Stars, it is still exchangeable, unlike [Saint] and [Usurper] which cannot be exchanged.
He Ao was somewhat unclear about the system’s exchange rules. It seemed to relate to power levels, but it didn’t seem to be entirely about power levels.
However, upon closer scrutiny, both [Saint] and [Usurper] behind the scenes are genuinely Divine Beings, while that hidden existence seems to fall slightly short of being a true Divine Being, and moreover, it’s dead.
Although the War God behind the [Usurper] is also dead, and even more thoroughly dead than that hidden existence, from the [Usurper]’s name and condition, its connection to the Divine Being on a conceptual level is much deeper than "Sea-Deep Glimmer".
Looking at it that way, both status and power levels should be important factors affecting the exchange criteria.
He Ao shifted his gaze away from "Sea-Deep Glimmer". Although the card was exchangeable, its trouble was no less than that of [Saint] or [Usurper].
After all, the Life Goddess has other Saints to monitor, the War God is dead beyond doubt, only needing to overcome the contamination, while this hidden existence might only have Jess as a lifeline to clutch at now, the focus on ’Jess’ is probably at maximum.
He Ao took another glance over the five cards, then exited the character card interface.
And at this point, the outside settlement interface had also been updated.
[Main Quest Evaluation is now settling...]
[Main Quest Evaluation: ★★★★]
[Congratulations on completing the Main Quest]
[Your other quest evaluations will now be settled, please wait...]
The Main Quest is completed, with a four-star rating.
This settlement result was somewhat beyond He Ao’s expectations, but it seemed within reason.
In He Ao’s estimation, the rating for this time should have been about three and a half stars, the same as the last Copy World.
The last challenge was about how to combat the Stars Pharma Mercenary Corps. This time, the challenge was unraveling Wells’ arrangements and confronting that resurrecting hidden existence.
In terms of status, certainly that hidden existence ranked higher, but as a deceased being, the actual pressure it applied was only slightly more than Stars Pharma.
However, this event occurred in Vitland, the Federation’s second largest city. He Ao also had to divide his attention to contend with the Welme Medical Consortium, as well as coordinating Vitland’s internal forces. The main points of extra credit might be here.
While He Ao was pondering the system’s scoring rules, the text in his field of vision continued to change.
[Your side quest evaluations are now being settled...]
[Side Quest Evaluation: ★★★☆]
The side quest rating was the same as last time, three and a half stars.
[Your hidden quest evaluations are now being settled...]
[Hidden Quest Evaluation: ★★★★★]
[Preparing to generate your comprehensive evaluation interface, please wait.]
A light purple evaluation frame appeared in He Ao’s view.
[Main Quest Evaluation:
You completed the difficult and complex main quest in a beautiful and elegant manner, simply by using the slightest and even ancient clues to circumvent powerful psychological suggestions, ascertain the true identity of the Mysterious Person, and uncover the real purpose of the Shadows beneath Vitland City.
Your meticulousness and wisdom are astonishing.
With your tight planning, careful placement, and endless subsequent strategies, you eradicated all chances for the Mysterious Person to turn the tables and buried the hidden being trying to return from its eternal slumber once again.
You saved millions of lives in the silent night, allowing people to continue with their peaceful lives in wondrous normalcy, unaware of the miracle you created.
History is a calmly flowing river, and you are the builder of dikes on its banks.]
[Main Quest Evaluation: ★★★★]
[Main Quest Settlement Exchange Star: ★]
Despite being praised so highly, they weren’t even willing to give one more Exchange Star.
He Ao skimmed the main quest evaluation and his gaze landed on the phrase ’You created a miracle’, it seemed that this was the reason for the high rating of this main quest.
A miracle...
He Ao savored this word as his gaze moved downward, looking at the text below,
[Side Quest Evaluation:
During the quest, you encountered resistance from the Welme Medical Consortium, an ancient consortium that showed tremendous power and deep roots, giving you quite a bit of trouble.
But you cleverly took advantage of the conflict between Stars Pharma and Welme Medical Consortium, and by directing their battle against each other, you caused Welme to lose its crucial senatorial seat in Vitland, dealing a heavy blow to the Welme Medical Consortium by exposing their ’Gene Potion’ experiments.
Through consecutive heavy strikes against both Stars Pharma and Welme Medical Consortium, you severely weakened the power of the entire Medical Monopoly Alliance.
At the same time, you used this opportunity to grant freedom and identity to Scavengers who had not been recognized for centuries, and toppled the Vitland Cleaning Companies Alliance, led by the Welme Cleaning Company, from its monopolistic throne.
Your mercy and tactics will become a significant and vivid Chapter in the history of the Federation.]
[Side Quest Evaluation: ★★★☆]
[Side Quest Settlement Exchange Star: ★]
The side quest seems to be mainly about striking against hostile forces.
Although the actual strength of Welme Medical Consortium is not as great as Stars Pharma’s, He Ao’s comprehensive assault and assistance to the Scavengers added back the missing parts, ensuring an overall three and a half star rating.
He Ao’s gaze continued downward.
[Hidden Quest Evaluation:
Jess and his family may not be major philanthropists, but they are still truly admirable good people.
Your arrival allowed Jess to still see the glimmer in the darkness at the bottom of the deepest abyss, to see others like him who were persevering.
The world is not an eternal night; there is always a faint glow.
One after another.]
What Jess feared was not destruction.
It was loneliness.
This hidden quest not only settled Jess’s longstanding wish but likely also the cumulative impact of He Ao’s actions all along.
He Ao’s gaze swept over the final evaluation page.
[Hidden Quest Evaluation: ★★★★★]
[Hidden Quest Settlement Exchange Star: ★★]
[Your Overall Quest Evaluation: ★★★★]
[Your Overall Quest Settlement Exchange Stars: ★★★★]
The comprehensive rating has risen, reaching four stars. This should be due to the main mission reaching the four-star level, but even with these two evaluations, He Ao still can’t figure out the weight of the main mission.
And although the rating has increased, since the rating and Exchange Stars do not seem to have a strict correspondence, the Exchange Stars he received remained at four stars.
For the moment, single item ratings of three and a half to four stars all result in only one Exchange Star, while five stars yield two. It’s still unclear whether the specific boundary between one and two Exchange Stars is four and a half or five stars.
However, with this four-star reward, He Ao now has eight Exchange Stars in hand.
As He Ao finished reading all the task evaluations, the text in his field of vision continued to jump.
[For miraculously pressing a Divine Being trying to resurrect back into eternal slumber without millions of people noticing, congratulations on achieving: Silent Night Coffin Nail]
[Silent Night Coffin Nail: Has a chance to take effect when a reward from a mission triggers a critical hit, potentially yielding items of a higher tier in the upgraded reward.]
An achievement that takes effect based on chance.
He Ao gazed at the words in his field of vision.
Unlike the achievements he had obtained before, which had strict conditions and were essentially one-time achievements, this time ’Silent Night Coffin Nail’ seemed like it could take effect more than once.
Or, it might never take effect at all.
It’s a gamble on fortune.
[Now calculating your mission reward]
[The reward for this mission is: a random one-time B-level Transcendent item or an incomplete B-level technological creation]
[Congratulations on triggering an ultra ultra ultra ultimate whirlwind invincible critical hit because your single item rating reached five stars, and both main mission and comprehensive ratings reached four stars.]
[Congratulations, you have successfully triggered the ’Silent Night Coffin Nail’ effect.]
[Now upgrading your reward]
[As a high-level player, your access to a higher-tier rewards warehouse has been unlocked. The upgrade is in process, please wait.]
This time the name of the critical hit unexpectedly contains a new term.
The system’s lexicon has actually been updated.
And it triggered the effect of ’Silent Night Coffin Nail,’ whether it’s due to luck or beginner’s protection.
He Ao rubbed his temples.
It seems that reward refreshes require some time after upgrading.
He stood up, stretched his body, walked to the window sill, and drew the curtains aside to look outside.
The scattered lights of the city under the night sky resembled a reflection of the stars on the ground.
He had spent six days in the Copy World this time, which would be six in the morning if it were Central Earth time.
But now he is staying in a hotel in Eren, the capital of the Rodan Kingdom, which has a time difference from Central Earth; it’s deep into the night now.
In the silence of the night, some chaotic thoughts began to seep into his mind.
After this foray into the Copy World, his Soul had once again been significantly strengthened, and following his victorious gamble against Wells and that Mysterious Person, his mastery over Super Memory had also improved further.
He Ao had a hunch that after one more gamble of a similar nature, he would completely master C-level Super Memory.
Gambling against Higher Beings is risky and challenging, but it indeed accelerates the proficiency of Super Memory; if one were to explore slowly under normal circumstances, it might take decades even with good luck.
Yet now, even including the time spent in the Copy World, it hasn’t been a month since he was promoted to C-level.
Just then, the text in his vision changed.
