Chapter 598: Chapter 598: But I think, they want to see you first. (Long Chapter, asking for monthly pass)

The sky shattered like fragments, the earth wrapped in molten lava, and the gigantic rocks that floated above the magma, solitary as islands.

The scorching heatwave rushed towards him, stirring the locks of hair at He Ao’s temples.

"Woo—"

Immense shadows roamed between the magma, their terrifying calls causing the sky itself to seem to tremble.

"Jess, it’s over,"

Wells, standing not far in front of He Ao, looked at him calmly, his face showing no sign of joy or sorrow, yet his brows revealed a confidence that everything was coming to an end.

"Is this some kind of dream?"

He Ao watched Wells’ movements, frowning slightly as he reached out his hand to feel the flowing heatwaves around him.

The B-level Gene Potion that Wells had concocted, named ’Dreamweaver,’ was not the first time He Ao had encountered such an ability to weave dreams.

Only, his previous encounters had all been with pleasant dreams, while this time, it seemed to be a ’nightmare.’

He Ao looked around him, now standing on a huge rock floating in the magma with Wells, everything around them was so real it seemed as if this was just how the world was meant to be.

He tried to summon his Divine Sense to peer into the essence of this world, but all that returned to him was emptiness; he could sense the existence of Divine Sense, but he could not use it.

In the dreams created by Ved and the man in military uniform that He Ao had experienced before, he could see the scenes of reality once he activated his Divine Sense.

This time, however, he was completely dragged into this chaotic dreamscape, losing all contact with reality.

This was surely not merely the power of the Dreamweaver; based on He Ao’s previous interactions with B-levels, even if Wells held a complete version of a B-level Gene Potion, he still shouldn’t achieve this level of effect with just B-level power.

Considering the fusion of Wells with the enormous tentacle, it appeared that Wells had received some sort of boost from the vast Shadow emerging from the deep sea of thought, thereby exhibiting a strength that far surpassed that of B-level.

"If you are thinking of using some sort of special Transcendent artifact, then you might as well give up,"

Wells raised his hands, reaching forward gently, "Be awestruck by this immense power, for it is a force you cannot resist, the power of a god."

The instant Wells extended his hand, He Ao felt as if two formless forces in the void gripped his body, lifting him into the emptiness.

He struggled against this force in the void but found he could hardly exert any strength.

Pain from Soul Rending originated from the depths of his consciousness; these two mighty forces were not only tearing at his body within the dream but also ripping apart his soul.

It seemed that the damage sustained in the dream would reflect upon the soul.

He Ao fiercely hurled the bone axe in his hand towards Wells.

The sharp bone axe cut through the void, aiming directly for Wells’ face.

However, just as the sharp edge was about to split Wells’ skull, it seemed to be stopped by some force, unable to advance further, suspended in front of Wells.

"Jess, I told you, this is a power you cannot resist."

Wells watched He Ao as the bone axe floating before him appeared to be pressed down by some terrifying force. It immediately became riddled with web-like cracks and then exploded with a bang, turning into a cloud of snow-white fragments.

Afterwards, Wells looked at the wooden box He Ao held in his other hand. In the next second, a purple glow flickered on the box, and it too shattered with a bang, bursting open in He Ao’s hand like a splendid fireworks display.

He was like the sovereign of this world, unchallengeable and incontestable.

He Ao glanced at the shattered fragments of the bone axe, then looked at the remaining part of the wooden box in his hand.

He narrowed his eyes slightly and activated Super Memory.

"Jess, I admit you are smart. You accounted for things I didn’t foresee,"

Wells advanced step by step toward He Ao, "but unfortunately, you are too stubborn and foolish. If you had left this city immediately after arranging everything, you might have had a chance of survival. But why did you come to see me?"

He sneered. "Do you think you’re a savior? Do you think you can defeat me and then put an end to this crisis forever? Do you want to save the people of this city? Do you think that after defeating a few C-levels, you can shake the power of a Divine Being? In the eyes of the Great Being, in my eyes, your power is as insignificant as that of an insect."

Countless illusory forces extended from all around, grasping at He Ao’s body, seizing his limbs and head, intending to tear his body into pieces harshly.

Wells watched He Ao’s cheeks grow redder as the tremendous force pulled at him, "Your pitiful, foolish kindness will ultimately destroy everything about you."

The intense pain of Soul Rending acted upon He Ao, but he didn’t make a sound. He just gazed calmly at Wells,

"So when you killed my parents, my wife, you only felt as though you were stepping on an insect?"

Powerful Mental Power gathered in He Ao’s mind under the directive of Super Memory and then released abruptly.

Purple brilliance burst forth from He Ao’s body in an instant, and the illusory forces pulling at him instantly collapsed.

He Ao’s body fell back to the ground, landing on the huge rocks.

The power that could affect the Soul could also be countered by the Soul.

In this ’dreamscape,’ Super Memory was usable.

"It seems you still have methods you haven’t shown me,"

Wells looked at He Ao, "I’m growing more and more curious about which secret entity you have established a connection with. But that doesn’t matter now. Your Soul is rapidly weakening; you probably can’t use that burst again."

He lifted his hand, and the illusory forces converged into colossal Shadow tendrils that struck at He Ao, trying once again to control him, "If that’s all you have, then your savior dream will shatter along with your meager insect life."

"I am not a savior, nor have I ever thought of being one,"

He Ao mobilized the power of Super Memory to break the illusory tendrils trying to bind him again and then staggered to his feet, a bloodstained pendant falling out from his collar and swinging gently with his movement.

The massive illusory tendrils hit the scorching magma, splashing up waves of flame.

He slowly raised his left hand and grasped the pendant on his chest, "I’m just a child, a husband, a Ghost who lived in this world and lost everything."

Then, with a fierce pull and a sharp snap, the pendant’s cord broke, and the pendant hanging on his chest was torn off.

The sealed pendant opened in the palm of his hand, and he looked at the three tender figures in the pendant’s photo,

"If it weren’t for you meddling with my family’s fate, nothing would have come to this point."

His right hand also raised up, opening outward.

An illusory Box gathered in his hand, with purple brilliance flowing within.

"What are you trying to do?"

Wells seemed to realize something, took a half step back, and looked up at He Ao.

He Ao lifted his head, calmly gazing at Wells in front of him, "This is something my father made for you, a relic he left behind."

The Box opened automatically, revealing the item inside.

It was a cluster of purple light and shadow.

A spectral object that couldn’t materialize in the real world, it gained a physical form in this dream.

"Your Divine Being’s Husks, you are not the only one who has them."

From the Box, a purple brilliance overflowed, settling into He Ao’s palm.

"Woo—"

The enormous Shadow around him let out a long cry, filled with a sort of angry consciousness that detonated in He Ao’s mind.

However, He Ao’s movements were unaffected by this phantom rage; the powerful purple light in his hand acted like a bridge, connecting him to the terrifying existence beyond the dreamscape.

Terrible and vast power followed this erosion, infiltrating He Ao’s body, pervading his very being.

It was like the clamor of thousands of people filled He Ao’s mind, meddling with his thoughts and corroding his will.

An invisible link had also been established between He Ao and the dreamscape.

At that moment, He Ao had also obtained partial control of the dreamscape.

"Shatter!"

The sky, riddled with cracks, thunderously shattered, revealing the dazzling stars beyond.

"You shall not succeed!"

Wells arched, and the colossal phantasmal tentacles that were embedded in his back emerged, continually filling his body.

He crawled on the ground as masses of twisted and terrifying flesh burst through his clothes.

A tremendous will obstructed He Ao’s actions.

Beneath their feet, the giant rocks soared upward, transforming into resplendent skyscrapers that shot towards the heavens.

He Ao glanced at his palm. The bone axe, which had shattered in the dreamscape, appeared once again in his hand.

Divine Sense was also ready to be summoned once more.

He had returned to reality, but not entirely to reality.

The stars still twinkled in the sky, and He Ao still stood upon Welme Medical Research Building, yet around the building, there still raged a surging sea of fire.

He Ao glanced at the purple light in his hand, crushed it, and scattered it into purple specks that dissipated into the surroundings.

This brilliance He Ao embedded into the Control Array directed towards himself, a presence he could always sense.

Just now in the dreamscape, as Wells destroyed the Box in He Ao’s hand, He Ao did not feel the disappearance of the brilliance within the Box.

Then He Ao realized Wells could not destroy the contents of the Box and was very wary of the items inside.

Strictly speaking, the Husks within the Box were of the same nature as the ones Wells had through consuming the Gene Potion; they both served as mediums for the Advent power of the dead Divine Being Wells was associated with and had a high affinity with that Divine Being’s power.

And since the dreamscape was built with the use of that ’Divine Being’s’ power, He Ao attempted to summon the Husk from the Box, trying to establish a connection with that ’Divine Being’, and he then gained control of the dreamscape.

Unfortunately, Wells’ original authority was still higher than He Ao’s pirated version, which meant that He Ao could not completely destroy the dreamscape—Wells could still be augmented by it.

However, in this overlaid state of reality and dreamscape, both He Ao and Wells returned to their physical forms, meaning He Ao could now inflict damage upon Wells.

No longer was he helplessly tied in the dreamscape.

He Ao placed the Box on the ground, lifted his head, and looked towards Wells ahead.

The monstrous and horrific phantom Shadow continuously poured into Wells’s body, inflating and distorting his form into a huge and twisted Lizard monster.

The Lizard monster’s upper body lay on the rooftop of the building, gazing at He Ao, while its lower half was completely ethereal, connected to the vast Shadow beneath the building.

"Jess!"

Wells opened his massive maw and, with his hard, sharp claws tore open the rooftop as easily as ripping through paper skin, he roared at He Ao, "You’re desecrating a Divine Being! You damned insect! How dare you show such disrespect to the body of a Divine Being!!!"

Even if it was an unused Husk, it was still a Husk of a Divine Being.

"Oh,"

He Ao glanced at the scattered purple glow, "Your god is quite useful to me."

"Jess!!!"

With bloodshot eyes bulging, Wells opened his enormous jaws wide, revealing his sharp fangs, "I’m going to hack off your limbs, gouge out your eyes, cut off your tongue, and throw you into a culture dish, letting your Soul forever sink into an inescapable nightmare!!!"

"Are you very angry?"

He Ao grasped the handle of the ax, smiling as he looked at Wells.

He took off the pendant on his chest, tossed it behind him, and, holding the long bone ax, he took step after step towards the enormous Wells.

The stars shone on the hem of his clothing, illuminating his cheeks wet with blood and tears.

He laughed out loud,

"Are you thinking that you must kill this damned brute, this mongrel dog, at any cost, even if it means sacrificing your life, your Soul, everything."

He Ao lifted his head, grinning at Wells, "Isn’t this the anger you wanted?"

The power of Super Memory was added to his powerful body, while his acute Divine Sense reflected the flowing score of the world.

The pristine bone ax swung out, creating a thunderous sonic boom,

"Killed my father, killed my mother, killed my wife, and you wanted me to work for you with anger in my heart."

The sharp edge of the ax clashed with the bone-plated claws.

Splinters of bone armor mixed with purple blood fell like dim raindrops in the air.

"Isn’t this the anger you wanted?"

The ax, buried in flesh, was pulled out and hurled towards the massive skull in the sky,

"Why, when this anger is turned upon yourself, do you not like it anymore?"

Roaring bellows accompanied by the clashing of metal, and He Ao’s figure was sent flying by a sharp giant claw, hitting the concrete floor and cratering it upon impact.

A bloodstained hand emerged from the crater, and He Ao, clawing at the building’s broken rebar, pulled himself out bit by bit from the depression.

"Jess, in this world, some people are merely the background, mere insects, destined to Sacrifice their lives for a Great Cause; your parents, and your wife, gave their lives for the Advent of the Great Being, and it was their honor,"

Wells opened his mucus-covered vast maw, "And you will soon join them."

"I will join them,"

He Ao staggered to his feet, his hand covered in blood gripping the bone ax tightly, "But I think they would prefer to see you first."
