Chapter 595: Chapter 595: Meeting Again (Super Long Chapter, Asking for Monthly Passes)

The white bone axe struck the thick reinforcement column, with chunks of cement and dust scattering.

The lines covering the entire space flashed a faint glow, with light purple mist spreading from the walls, floor, and ceiling, quickly engulfing everything around.

The researchers bound to the columns had also vanished behind this veil of mist.

He Ao raised his hand to retrieve the bone axe, gazing at the hazy purple mist.

A swaying figure slowly emerged from the purple mist, the very person who had just attacked He Ao, also the missing researcher.

There were nineteen researchers missing from the Second Laboratory, and only eighteen were tied to the columns, their movements restricted.

This sole researcher, not restrained, was dressed in a white lab coat, hunched over, staggering step by step out of the mist towards He Ao.

A slit in his trousers revealed a leg wound oozing blood, a cut from He Ao’s bone axe attack that he hadn’t managed to completely dodge.

As he drew closer, He Ao could see his pale face, one hand covering his cheek as if suppressing some extreme pain, while the madness in his eyes sparkled through the gaps in his fingers.

He stared at He Ao, like a cold-blooded snake watching its prey in the darkness of night, "Jess, you have received so many gifts from the Great Being, giving you the chance to glimpse the truth of the world, to create something as magnificent as the Gene Potion, yet you feel not a shred of gratitude in your heart."

He cracked a grin, revealing sharp teeth, "You ungrateful and despicable human."

"I don’t consider it a ’gift’."

He Ao, holding the bone axe, kept a calm demeanor, "I don’t need it."

The pendant hanging before his chest, stained with mottled blood, rose and fell with his breathing.

"You ignorant and foolish bastard!!!"

The man hunched over as hard bone spurs burst from the spine on his back, and soon after, twisted flesh started creeping along these spurs.

He Ao, with the bone axe in hand, leaned forward, launching himself directly at the man.

He didn’t have the habit of waiting for his enemy to complete their transformation.

"Ao!!!"

The man, whose body was undergoing a strange transformation, saw He Ao leap towards him and roared like a beast before his trouser legs burst open, his thighs swelling into frog-like hind legs that propelled him backward into the purple mist.

Pop—

A faint sound of a struggle to break free echoed from within the mist.

He Ao stopped in his tracks, listening intently to these sounds.

Pop—Pop—

Three of them, each from a different direction.

The first one.

Without hesitation, he leaped toward the back right.

Flashing purple light surged in the murky mist.

This was another man in a lab coat, his body bristling with fine bone spurs, his eyes filled with a frenzied worship and madness, as a purple orb, seeming to crackle with electricity, gathered in his hands.

A spiritual oppression, capable of instilling utmost fear, emanated from that orb.

But before the orb could take shape, He Ao’s bone axe came slashing up diagonally, striking the man in the chest.

The man staggered, sent flying by the blow.

His chest clothing was cut open by the strike, revealing a cracked bone carapace underneath.

His body was very different from that of a human.

As he was sent flying, the gathering process of his flickering orb was interrupted, instantly shattering.

However, He Ao’s actions didn’t stop there, he propelled himself forward, swinging the axe twice, once to each side, striking below the researcher’s collarbones.

Crack—

With a soft sound of the bone carapace breaking, He Ao exerted more force, another axe blow to the researcher’s chest, sending him flying once again.

Meanwhile, a disturbance occurred within the purple fog on He Ao’s left side, as a researcher wielding a greatsword condensed from bone leapt out and slashed down at him.

He Ao sidestepped to the left and blocked the incoming bone sword with his bone axe, then gathered all his strength into his arm and forcefully flung the researcher back in the direction from which he had come.

Without concerning himself with the researcher he had just thrown, he charged at the one whose bone armor he had just shattered, gripping the axe with both hands and striking fiercely once more upon the researcher’s chest.

This time, the sharp bone blade pierced the researcher’s chest, spraying blood glowing with purple radiance; then He Ao violently yanked out the bone axe, raised the axe head high, and brought it down again in a top-down slash.

The blade followed the path from the left side of the researcher’s neck across to the right side of his chest.

The researcher stumbled and fell to his knees before He Ao, struggling to lift his hands, a suffocating purple glow once again pooling within them.

He Ao lifted his axe and, with two separate swings, chopped off both hands in a crosswise strike.

As the purple glow dissipated into the mist, the researcher’s body toppled backwards.

At that moment, the researcher wielding the bone sword charged once more out of the fog, slashing at He Ao.

He Ao grasped his axe with both hands, blocking the strike directly and once again sending the researcher flying; then, channeling his power into his legs, he burst forward in the direction the researcher had been thrown, delivering another upward axe blow to his chest, sending him soaring.

Immediately after, while the researcher was still airborne and not yet landed, He Ao concentrated his strength in his arms; the bone axe tore through emptiness, emitting a roaring blast, and with an attack frequency leaving hardly any gap, struck again at the man’s chest.

Fragments of shattered bone armor mixed with blood fell onto He Ao’s chest.

The blow ruptured the researcher’s defenses, the axe blade splitting his chest open and propelling him away.

His form streaked through the mist, crashing into the wall.

He Ao followed swiftly and cleaved through his heart.

Whiz—

Just after the bone axe sunk into the researcher’s chest, an arrow shot through the mist toward He Ao’s head.

He Ao released the bone axe at once and leaped back, evading the arrow.

At the same time, he forcefully tugged at the metal wire, extracting the bone axe stuck in the chest of the researcher with the bone sword.

As the bone axe flew towards him, He Ao lunged forward, heading straight for the direction from which the arrow was fired.

The bone axe did not land in He Ao’s hand midair; instead, with a forward flick, it followed an arc through the air, aiming at the direction the arrow had come from.

Thud—

A muffled sound was accompanied by the feedback of a heavy object being struck.

A vague silhouette flew back within the purple mist.

At that moment, a massive black shadow emerged from the depths of the fog, opened its enormous maw, and in one bite seized the shadow that He Ao had struck, then swallowed it into its belly.

He Ao pulled back, retrieving his bone axe and watching the massive black shadow.

Before him appeared a creature with the robust body of a wild ox, the head of a tiger, antlers, and the sturdy legs of a frog, all fours upon the ground.

Faint purple patterns covered its body, shimmering with a hazy radiance.

The oppressive feeling this monster gave off was comparable to Arent’s, and after consuming the shadow He Ao had injured, its power seemed even stronger.

The difference, however, between this creature and Arent was that the creature’s energy concentration points were not spread throughout each limb but were mostly focused around its neck and head.

"Jess, your greed and ignorance will bring you a ruinous end,"

The creature opened its mouth, still dripping with fresh blood, and from its remaining attire, it was clear that it was the first researcher He Ao had encountered.

The moment the words left its mouth, the beast lunged at He Ao.

He Ao activated Super Memory, swiftly dodging to one side, and simultaneously, while rotating his figure, he covered the axe blade with Divine Sense and suddenly struck the monster’s side neck as it landed where he had just stood.

The whole sequence was fluid, dodging an attack while simultaneously making one.

The sharp axe blade buried itself in the creature’s neck, the vibration numbing He Ao’s palms.

"Ooh—"

The monster bellowed furiously and jerked its head, flinging He Ao away.

He Ao’s figure slammed into a support column covered in purple patterns, sliding down along the column. He clutched at the swaying pendant on his chest, stuffing it inside his collar as a trickle of fresh blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.

The monster watched He Ao, the blade of the bone axe leaving a deep wound on its neck. The flowing purple glow converged on the wound, stopping the blood that was about to spurt out.

This time, it didn’t pounce at He Ao without hesitation. Instead, it opened its mouth, and the purple patterns on its body sparked with a brilliant light, while a faint purple orb gathered within its maw.

A terrifying power that seemed to tear at the soul surged within this orb.

He Ao leaned against the pillar, both hands lifting the bone axe, then, like a cannonball shot out, he suddenly lunged upward, appearing above the monster’s head before it could react.

Then he fiercely pressed down the bone axe in his hands, cleaving into the monster’s forehead.

The flickering purple glow that enveloped the monster’s body briefly stilled, but the purple orb in its mouth was not extinguished.

He Ao landed on the ground and violently threw the bone axe, gathering strength in his waist, legs, and arms like a violently spinning top.

The sharp blade of the bone axe struck the monster’s cheek over and over, with each hit, the purple light in the monster’s mouth dimmed.

In an extremely short amount of time, the light in the monster’s mouth rapidly dimmed until it was like a flame that had been extinguished, casting only a confused scatter of light.

He Ao also stopped his attack.

His body swayed, then he closed his eyes, following the feeling of battle; he gathered all his strength into his arms and chopped upward fiercely, hitting the monster’s chin.

The monster’s body staggered, its head tilting back, taking a few steps back.

Then it tensed the muscles in its legs, head drooping down as it lunged sideways at He Ao.

He Ao lifted his gaze to the monster, tilting his body to the side, taking half a step back, then once again cleaved the axe onto the monster’s neck.

But the powerful force of the monster’s charge still sent him flying upon collision.

The monster halted its footsteps, seemingly mocking his overconfidence.

However, the next second, the bone axe thrown by He Ao, who was still in the air, reached it, the sharp blade catching onto one of the deer antlers protruding from the monster’s head.

The metallic wire tensed, and He Ao pulled forcefully, bringing himself back toward the monster; the blade also severed the monster’s antler as the axe handle returned to He Ao’s hand.

"Augh—"

Stricken with pain, the monster charged forward, raising its torso, and while He Ao was unsteady, it smacked its strong foreleg down at him as he landed.

Every space He Ao could have retreated to was within the monster’s attack range. He grasped the axe with both hands and stepped forward, directly beneath the monster, cleaving several times into its lower neck.

At that moment, the monster’s neck was encircled by wounds, destroying most of the energy convergence points in its neck. Under the watch of the divine sense, the energy network inside the monster was dimming.

The monster’s movements paused, and its half-standing body fell sideways under He Ao’s assault, its rear end facing him.

He Ao pressed down his body, spinning with the momentum, and cleaved at the monster’s unprotected hind leg.

Blood shining with purple light splashed out.

The monster desperately readjusted its posture to face He Ao.

And as it was adjusting its posture, its neck conveniently struck against the waiting blade of He Ao’s axe.

He Ao crouched, focusing all his strength in his arms and tightly grasping the bone axe in his hands to deliver a fierce chop.

The bone axe, like a meteor, whistled through a sonic boom, suddenly cleaving into the monster’s lower side neck.

The monster’s body jolted, the entire mass tilting upward.

He Ao unleashed another axe blow, striking the monster’s right jaw.

Under the force of this fierce impact, the monster’s body finally tilted and fell backwards.

He Ao, going with the flow, drove the axe deeper into the wound on the monster’s neck. Then he jumped onto the monster’s body, releasing the metallic wire in his hands, swinging his wrist forward and wrapping a portion of the wire around the upper part of the monster’s head.

The toppled monster tried to stand up, but He Ao, standing atop it, attached his divine sense to his palms, grabbing the wire and jumped off the monster.

During this ordeal, he ran the wire over his shoulder, turned his back to the monster, and in one swift leap, bent forward and yanked hard.

The monster, just trying to stand, was violently pulled to the side by the tug, crashing back to the ground.

The slender metal wire sliced through flesh, destroying numerous energy convergence points within its skull.

At that moment, He Ao had already turned, stepping on the monster’s neck with one foot and exerting force violently, pinning the creature, attempting to rise again, firmly to the ground. Then his hand flung the metal wire forward again, wrapping it around the monster’s throat.

"You greedy and ignorant fool, you don’t understand, you don’t understand, you have no idea how great a gift you’ve received."

The monster’s split mouth issued a raspy, gasping voice.

"I know,"

He Ao, standing on the monster’s throat, spoke calmly, "I’ve said, I don’t need it."

His hands gripping the metal wire tightened suddenly, and the slender wire cut into the flesh.

Accompanied by a crisp ’snap—’, the entwining force combined with the upward pull abruptly broke the monster’s neck and also destroyed the last energy convergence point inside the creature’s body.

The already dim energy network finally shattered, severing all the monster’s lifeforce.

He Ao loosened his grip, turned off Super Memory, unwrapped the metal wire, and then with a forceful action, the bone axe that had been inserted into the monster’s neck was pulled out from the flesh and flew back into his hand.

The released metal wire was quickly retracted into the mechanical wristband. He Ao glanced at his hands; even though he had covered them with Divine Sense, the intense force just now had still left several bloody marks.

He Ao looked at the surrounding purple mist and, following the direction in his memory, walked to the load-bearing pillar where the researchers were bound, cut their restraints, and incidentally destroyed the Array structures around them.

The place where these researchers were located was the core of the Array that covered the entire space.

They were placed in the Array as the final ’sacrifices.’

As each researcher was released, and as line after line of the Array was destroyed, the surrounding purple mist gradually faded.

By the time He Ao rescued the last researcher, the pervasive purple mist had faded to almost imperceptible levels.

He Ao glanced at the researchers still lying on the ground, deeply asleep in their dreams, and fiercely threw his bone axe, destroying the last core structure of the Array.

The surrounding purple mist finally disappeared completely. The Array that had shimmered throughout the space passed its last glow and eventually ceased to exist.

He Ao’s gaze returned to the researchers; there were nineteen in total. One had mutated into a monster, three had minor mutations, and the souls of these four had been completely corroded. The remaining fifteen souls were relatively normal and had not been too deeply eroded.

He Ao grabbed their clothes, lifting two people with one hand, and brought them to the elevator entrance.

This building had three elevators that reached the top floor, of which the base stations for two of them were on the first floor, and one on the 29th floor, meaning that without operation, two elevators would be suspended on the first floor.

He Ao tossed these fifteen individuals into the two elevators whose base stations were on the first floor, pressed the first-floor button, and closed the elevator doors.

Then he turned around, accompanied by the sound of the elevators descending, and walked towards the deepest door of the lobby.

The door wasn’t locked. He Ao grasped the doorknob and easily pushed the door open.

The air behind the door was very fresh, a stark contrast to the stench of blood outside, as if from two different worlds. Soft light illuminated the pristine floor.

He Ao naturally pushed the door open and walked into the room.

This was a spacious room with a minimalist decor, only a pure white wall covered in photographs, a matte marble floor that reflected a soft glow, and at the deepest part of the room, a spiral staircase leading to the upper level.

The air conditioner on the ceiling gently blew clean air.

Rather than a room, it felt more like an exhibition hall.

A man dressed in a pure white doctor’s coat stood beside the spiral staircase, his back to He Ao, slowly wiping a picture frame in his hands.

He appeared to hear the sound from the doorway, hung the frame back on the wall—a picture of a woman sitting in front of a bookshelf with a gentle smile.

He slowly turned around, facing He Ao,

"Even after so many years, I still remember the smile of your mother. She was the most optimistic and cheerful of all the patients I’ve treated."

The man’s appearance was ordinary, with no memorable features. Standing in this pristine exhibition hall, he seemed like an average doctor taking care of his ’patients.’

He Ao watched the man’s face as the once disjointed memories aligned at that moment.

The vague and dim face of the Mysterious Person from his memories also became clear.

He Ao lifted his left hand and pressed it to his chest, covering the hard pendant through his clothes, steadying his heaving chest. He watched the man before him with a calm expression,

"We meet again."

The sharp edge of the axe reflected a faint glow under the cool lighting.
