Chapter 482: Chapter 482: Entering Stars Pharma Tower (Double Update, 7000 Votes for Monthly Pass)

So the little girl has been fussing around for so long, just to bake a cake?

He Ao smiled and stuffed the little cake back into his coat pocket.

After that, he found a fast-food restaurant nearby, bought a few hot dogs to fill his belly, and then got a cup of hot coffee, slowly heading towards the Stars Pharma building.

He didn’t go directly to the main entrance.

The building had tight security, and according to the information revealed in the communication reports between Reid and Stars Pharma, the building was divided into two areas: a public area and an internal research and development area of Stars Pharma.

It was possible to blend into the public area, but the R&D area was not accessible through the public area; it had a separate, hidden passage.

Finding this passage wasn’t difficult, with the help of Super Memory, He Ao quickly located an underground parking lot entrance near the Stars Pharma building.

Many vehicles came and went, some of which bore the emblem of Stars Pharma.

Entering this underground parking required facing strict security checks, verifying identity through some kind of implanted ID chip.

Any intruders without the chip would be subjected to indiscriminate attacks.

He had witnessed with his own eyes a rat that mistakenly entered the parking lot get incinerated by an auto-targeting laser cannon.

In the end, He Ao didn’t immediately take action, instead, he leaned against the shadows not far from the entrance, quietly watching the coming and going vehicles.

He was waiting for a chance, an opportunity to directly enter the depths of the building.

Visible fog had already started to form around, with the hazy mist enveloping the entire street.

He Ao swiped his hand through the mist; it wasn’t as cold and bone-chilling as the earlier moisture but instead carried a faint, comforting warmth.

Blurry figures still moved around him.

People didn’t find the fog strange but were surprised by the season it appeared in.

Limen City was often shrouded in dense fog for a few days each year.

These foggy days came quickly and left just as rapidly, not affecting people’s normal work and life.

However, those foggy days usually happened at the beginning of spring, and it wasn’t the season for fog to envelop the area.

That’s why people were surprised by the timing, but their emotions stopped at just that—surprise.

Unusual weather was common, but lowering one’s work efficiency over these anomalies could result in job loss.

In the spread of the mist, a dark red semi-trailer truck pulling a long container drove towards the entrance of the underground parking.

It wasn’t the first semi-trailer truck He Ao had seen enter this peculiar parking entrance, but this one was different from the others.

The container of this truck was filled with the essence of life, and fresh grass and soil clung to the gaps in the wheels, proving it had come directly from the wilderness.

In the documents from the Research Institute, though it never mentioned where the Strengthening Potion development lab was, He Ao keenly noticed a detail.

Whenever there was the newest or experimental Strengthening Potion, the Limen City Research Institute got it first, and the Mercenary Corps outside Limen City were also equipped with a large amount of Strengthening Potions that seemed unavailable to other Stars Pharma mercenary corps.

This proved that the lab researching Strengthening Potions was closed to the Research Institute and Mercenary Corps, and with high probability, was within Limen City.

And since the research for Strengthening Potions required Life Elixirs and the "Fountain of Life", as well as a large number of advanced instruments, plus the existence of a concealed research area within the Stars Pharma building,

He Ao speculated that the Strengthening Potion lab was probably inside the Stars Pharma building, and the preliminary mixing of the Life Elixir should also take place here.

Looking at the materials for mixing the Strengthening Potion, the research required the fresh blood of powerful exotic beasts, and once the beasts died, their blood would gradually lose its activity, with their Transcendent power gathering in certain parts of their body.

Therefore, He Ao guessed that Stars Pharma might be directly taking blood from living exotic beasts captured from the wilderness for experiments.

And it was unlikely that each of these surviving exotic beasts would have a specific chip implanted.

So the vehicle transporting the exotic beasts should be able to obtain some kind of ’exemption’.

He Ao, using Night Walk, blended into the night, and slipped into the interior of the container through the gaps in its shadow.

Then, a mix of various foul odors surged into his nostrils.

Rows of closely packed exotic beasts appeared in his vision.

These beasts all seemed to be in some kind of deep sleep; they were motionless, but their bodies seemed to be slightly heaving, proving they were still alive.

They were kept in narrow cages, stacked inside the container.

The interior of the container was stacked so tightly there was no room for a person to move about.

However, this didn’t affect He Ao much since he could use Night Walk.

After checking several exotic beasts and determining none of them had chips implanted, He Ao found a relatively empty cage and sat on a sleeping lion-like beast.

The lion, deep in slumber, suddenly felt something pressing down on it.

It tried to struggle and turn over, but the thing on top of it didn’t budge.

It struggled, seemingly about to awaken.

Then a fist wrapped in darkness descended from above, helping it fall back into sleep.

He Ao shifted his position so that his body was completely covered by the lion, and then he blended back into the darkness.

This was to avoid the intelligent scanning devices.

The large truck moved slowly.

After a certain bump, the vehicle seemed to start descending.

He passed through the security check smoothly and entered this ’underground parking lot’.

Following this, the truck moved intermittently, passing through several security checkpoints before it continued its steady stealthy progress.

He Ao waited inside the truck for about half an hour before the vehicle finally stopped and started to reverse.

Then, He Ao felt the container entering some sort of elevator mechanism and began rising swiftly.

He used Night Walk to step out of the container and stood on its top.

This seemed to be a spacious mechanical elevator shaft.

Below the container was a huge platform that was rapidly lifting the container upwards; He Ao could feel the wind in the elevator shaft brushing past his cheeks, causing his coat to flutter loudly.

Soon, the ’elevator’ came to a stop, and what appeared before He Ao was a vast operation platform lit up by lamps and filled with mechanical arms of various styles and sizes.

A giant mechanical arm extended from behind the container and pushed it onto the platform; then, numerous delicate mechanical arms reached out, opened the container’s doors, and swiftly dragged out the cages with the exotic beasts, placing them on a conveyor belt.

He Ao jumped onto a cage and followed the conveyor belt forward as arms emerged from the darkness.

The mechanical arm at the forefront injected each beast in the cages with what seemed to be an anesthetic, then the arms behind opened the cages and separated the beasts from their confines.

He Ao jumped onto a maintenance walkway next to the conveyor belt, speeding down the path.

Then, a series of mechanical hooks stretched out, lifting up the suspended beasts.

One after another, mechanical arms extended out, their intelligence identifying the species of the exotic beast and precisely stabbing the knives into their large arteries.

With a red glow, the blood gushed out instantaneously, flowing into the trough beneath the beasts.

At this point, the pathway took a turn, and He Ao walked along it towards the other side.

This walkway was a steel walkway suspended in midair, with only simple railings on either side.

As He Ao looked down, a giant Blood Pool pulsating with a red glow appeared in his view.

While he watched, the pool churned slightly due to the fresh blood pouring in, and a humanoid corpse floated up from the Blood Pool.

His body was completely covered in blood, but judging by how intact his body was preserved in this Transcendent blood, he might have been a powerful Transcendent before his death.

He Ao’s grip on the railing tightened slightly, indenting the railing with his grasp.

It seemed that Stars Pharma was pushing the boundaries beyond what he had imagined; their research materials included not just exotic beasts but humans as well.

Just then, noises came from above He Ao’s head.

He looked up to see an enormous, long horizontal window above him, with individuals dressed in lab coats passing by the window.

Among these passing shadows, he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure.

Maintaining Night Walk, He Ao swiftly moved across the walkway.

After crossing over the Blood Pool, there were stairs leading downward.

He Ao followed the stairs down until he reached a small iron door that was locked.

Using Stealth, he passed through the iron door into a narrow, dimly lit corridor.

The corridor was lined with fully enclosed protective suits, seemingly for maintenance personnel to change into.

At the end of the corridor was a small door; using Night Walk, He Ao passed through it to find a changing room with internal protective suits and some lab coats hanging there.

Above the closet with the lab coats, a line of small text read.

[To ensure you do not carry back any contaminant into the research center, please change into a brand-new lab coat and dispose of your original clothes in the contamination waste bin. The lab coats are provided free of charge, so please do not worry.]

He Ao scanned the room and spotted a yellow waste bin labeled ’Contaminants’ in the corner.

All the hung lab coats included a full set with undergarments.

Free of charge.

He Ao grabbed a white lab coat that was hanging on the outside and draped it over himself.

The research staff he had just seen walking past the window were mostly just wearing a coat over their clothes; such complete lab coat sets were probably only worn when dealing with contaminated tasks.

After donning the outer coat, He Ao left the changing room, blending into the room’s shadows.

The next space appeared to be an area for pollution detection, requiring blood samples, with a rest area included; He Ao simply bypassed it and exited the place.

After passing through the final door, a pristine corridor came into He Ao’s field of vision.

Figures in white lab coats were bustling about in this space.

He Ao tucked away his bowler hat, deactivated Stealth, and moved forward among these people.

Following their lead, he found an elevator and entered it, estimating the location of the glass room he had seen earlier from memory, and ascended three floors.

Upon reaching the target floor, he located the size and position of each lab from the fire escape floor plan in the corridor, and he pinpointed the position of the target laboratory.

These floors seemed to be dedicated to researching Strengthening Potions, with each laboratory tied to the subject of enhancement drugs.

However, only a few had actual access to the Transcendent blood.

The Blood Analysis and Detection Research Institute before He Ao was one of those few.

He pushed open the white doors of the laboratory, Concealed his presence, and walked in.

The lab was vast, almost like a hall, with nearly dozens of researchers walking and busying themselves within.

At the very back in the middle of the laboratory, there was a window through which one could take in the entire working ’Blood Pool’ at a glance.

He Ao made his way through the crowd to that window.

Standing here, his view encompassed the entire Blood Pool, including the corpses bobbing within it.

As the researchers passed by this window, some would glance at the scene outside as well.

But it seemed they had long since become numb to it, their eyes void of any emotion.

Almost every researcher had their own workstation, with test tubes—some more, some fewer—filled with red blood.

They carefully analyzed the properties of these blood samples at the experimental desks.

And all this blood came from a small office inside the laboratory.

He Ao walked over, where the photo and name of the person in charge of this ’Blood Analysis and Detection Research Institute’ were posted at the office door.

He Ao stopped here, staring at the photo.

The figure in the photo, ’Pete,’ was very familiar.

This person did not seem to belong here, yet his presence here appeared quite fitting.

Unexpected, yet reasonable.

He Ao revealed himself, pushed open the door of the office,

"What is it?"

The office owner was reading materials with his head down. Without looking up at He Ao, he said casually, "If you’re here for materials, just take a test tube and go directly to the Materials Outlet."

He Ao looked up and soon spotted a window called ’Materials Outlet’ not far in front of him, with a test-tube rack placed inside.

It seemed that by placing a test tube in the rack, one could automatically obtain the ’material.’

But He Ao was not there to fetch materials. He reached out slowly, closed the office door, and looking at the middle-aged man with his head down, who was reading the materials, he said softly, "Don’t you recognize me, old classmate?"

The man heard his voice, paused for a moment, then raised his head.

Revealing that face which was deeply etched in Pete’s memory.

This was the ’middle school classmate’ Pete had encountered before, the one who had introduced the job at the Research Institute to Pete as a ’Volunteer.’

Even after knowing the truth, through Pete’s understanding and reasoning, ’Pete’ still thought this old classmate was kind-hearted, genuinely wanting to help him, but accidentally did more harm than good.

Yet reality always has its surprises.

"Long time no see."

He Ao looked at this ’old classmate’ who had lifted his head and said with a soft smile.
