He Ao’s expression changed, and he immediately got up.

Then came another message—it was a real-time location sent by Yvo.

He Ao got up and left the library. When he entered the church, the chubby priest was still sitting inside. He watched He Ao walk out and nodded slightly.

He didn’t ask about the donation, but instead waved goodbye, "It’s late and the roads are slippery, be careful."

He Ao didn’t conceal his familiarity with the school, so the priest probably guessed that He Ao had once been a student here.

"Hmm."

He Ao nodded slightly and left the church.

The priest followed He Ao’s footsteps, escorting him until He Ao left the school and watched the slender figure disappear into the depths of the street.

——

He Ao hailed a taxi and headed to the address sent by Yvo and the others.

The camera on the top of the driverless taxi lit up, capturing his figure.

The taxi companies would collect the portrait data and behavioral habits of passengers.

But they wouldn’t share this data with the Federation government. On the surface, they claimed to protect customer privacy; in reality, they were building data barriers, using this information to induce more consumer spending.

Similarly, the communication software He Ao was currently using followed the same practice; they wouldn’t open their databases to the Federal Bureau of Investigation either.

For the consortiums, catching criminals was the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s job, while their business was to make money. As long as the individual paid, they would do business with them, regardless of their identity.

Therefore, He Ao could still boldly use software and services not affiliated with the Mining Consortium.

While the taxi was in motion, He Ao’s wristband vibrated.

Eve had analyzed the Mayor’s behavior trajectory since the beginning of the campaign.

A massive projection map appeared in front of He Ao, almost filling up the entire cab.

One by one, red dots lit up on the map, then connected, forming red trajectories.

The tracks were as chaotic as tangled thread ends, without any discernible pattern.

The data also showed that each place the Mayor visited had a logical rationale—either campaigning or responding to some local incident.

He Ao focused.

In his mind, he started to match the locations of those monsters he had just seen with the spots on the map.

But these locations did not match up with the Mayor’s trajectory. Only a small fraction coincided with places the Mayor had been, and even then, the timing was significantly apart.

He Ao was silent for a moment before typing a line on his wristband, [Can you simulate the Mayor’s movements over the past few months?]

The wristband vibrated, [Yes].

Considering he was inside the taxi, it wasn’t convenient for him to speak out loud.

The projection map in front of him changed rapidly; the lines started to disappear one by one, leaving behind only simple trajectories.

He Ao’s gaze scanned over those points, eventually settling on the closest one, located in the North District where the Mayor had given a charity speech a few days ago.

He Ao slid his finger over that point and then gently slid it in the southwest direction. A familiar location appeared before him.

The crafts store that sold the Ancient Sword to Nell.

The day before the Mayor’s speech, Nell had bought the Ancient Sword in that crafts store, and then he was attacked that night.

Two days after this speech, He Ao had returned to the city, and the crafts store owner had already been killed.

By the time the speech was delivered, it was late at night, precisely the time when the contaminated monster that had killed the crafts store owner was active.

Though it was a monster that killed the owner, the disarranged crafts were ’placed’ there by a person.

It would take only a little over ten minutes to get from the speaking venue to the crafts store.

But leaving for that long would certainly have been noticed.

With the speech being so recent, if anything unusual had occurred, Wright should have a detailed record.

He Ao opened the original document folder for this speech, which was very comprehensive. It seemed Wright had arranged for people to infiltrate the Mayor’s entourage, as the recent documentation was extremely detailed.

But these documents only recorded the content of the speech and the dinner afterward. Throughout these events, the Mayor seemed perfectly normal.

He Ao pondered for a moment, then opened Wright’s analysis folder.

He carefully searched through Wright’s analyses and his subordinates’ reports and then came across a sentence.

[The Mayor stopped at a public restroom for fifteen minutes on his way back]

The public restrooms!

He Ao quickly searched the map for public restrooms, the closest to the speaking venue was... next to the crafts store.

Behind the public restrooms was the back of the crafts store.

Heading back to the Mayor’s mansion from the speaking venue, he would logically pass by this public restroom, making everything extremely reasonable and expected.

It seemed that the Mayor might indeed be the mastermind behind those monsters or at least had some influence.

Creating monsters, stirring chaos—what exactly was he trying to accomplish?

The news of the Old Foreman being critically injured made He Ao realize that the final reckoning was probably imminent.

Although the chaos affected a vast number of people, only two core parties were involved: one led by the Mayor and the Mining Consortium, and the other by the Old Foreman and the Miners’ Mutual Aid Association.

The impact of the Old Foreman’s attack probably wouldn’t be so simple, and it seemed the Old Foreman knew something.

The driverless taxi continued forward, the noise and chaos around growing louder; the city seemed even more chaotic.

In the morning when He Ao rescued those members of the Miners’ Mutual Aid Association, the city wasn’t in such chaos.

Eventually, the vehicle stopped in front of an abandoned industrial park.

He Ao got out of the car and walked step by step into the industrial park.

He hadn’t walked far when two people hurriedly emerged from the dusk.

Big Brother Yvo and the middle-aged man Watson.

"How come it’s only the two of you?"

He Ao was taken aback; the Old Foreman had already handed him the pickaxe, and it was clearly unreasonable for just two people to come, "How is the Old Foreman?"

Unless the Old Foreman hadn’t had the chance to explain before losing consciousness.

"The Old Foreman was taken away by the Pharmacist."

Watson quickly answered.

Following that, he recounted the day’s events during He Ao’s absence.

Last night, after everyone had run out, the Old Foreman had vanished for a while.

When he returned, he immediately gathered everyone, took Yvo and others to the warehouse mentioned by Elijah, and, taking advantage of the remnants of Vinc’s forces being unprepared, seized two damaged Mechas that were being repaired.

Under Yvo’s direction, the two Mechas were mostly repaired and barely serviceable, and then they encountered another attack from Ice Wolf Gang members affiliated with the Mayor.

Yvo directly operated the Mecha to defeat these people, and then, with the guidance of these captured individuals, they found a portion of the imprisoned miners.

These miners were being held in a private dungeon constructed by the Ice Wolf Gang, classified and priced like livestock, whipped to the point of skin splitting and flesh busting with the slightest resistance.

The Old Foreman led the people to rescue this group and took them back to the warehouse for the Pharmacist to treat.

The grim situation made everyone realize they should do something.

Some believed that, given the vast difference in strength between the Miners’ Mutual Aid Association and the Consortium, they should leave the city and flee to the wilderness, biding their time before seeking revenge for today’s grievances.

But their suggestion met with opposition from another group; fleeing to the wilderness now meant abandoning the miners in the city. Those who were ’sold’ into private prisons, who knew whether they would survive or endure much suffering.

Moreover, as the events spiraled out of control, some members of the Ice Wolf Gang had already started killing people indiscriminately.

If they fled, it would be tantamount to abandoning the name of the Miners’ Mutual Aid Association.

They would be abandoning their initial beliefs.

Furthermore, the arrest of the miners was ostensibly caused by them in the first place.

While the two groups were arguing incessantly, Yvo suddenly interjected, "Why don’t we just go and take care of the Mayor and the Mining Consortium’s board of directors? Capture the leaders first, and without them, the situation won’t be able to proceed."

Hearing this, He Ao glanced at Yvo, as it sounded like something Big Brother would suggest.

And Watson continued narrating,

To everyone’s surprise, Yvo’s brash proposal made everyone start thinking.

The Miners’ Mutual Aid Association was too weak, and all the current issues were actually stirred up by the Mayor and the current Mining Consortium board. With a change of leadership, perhaps they would not harbor such significant animosity towards the miners.

The idea was not good, and could even be said to be terrible.

But indeed, it was the only hopeful method for the Miners’ Mutual Aid Association, which was currently weak yet possessed certain top-notch capabilities (Mecha).

However, the method was too radical, and the Old Foreman did not agree; everyone still held different opinions.

It was then that an unexpected event occurred.

In the afternoon, a district of Northwest City where a large number of miners were gathering experienced a mass uprising against arrests, with the miners clashing violently with members of the Ice Wolf Gang and the City Defense Army.

The end result of the conflict was that several City Defense Army soldiers died in the chaos, more than a dozen members of the Ice Wolf Gang were shot dead, over seventy miners died in the turmoil, and a director from the Mining Consortium who was watching nearby also perished in the confusion.

At the time of this incident, He Ao was busily escorting those members of the Miners’ Mutual Aid Association he had rescued out of the city.

The municipal government sealed the news, and after that, He Ao went to the library and didn’t check the internet. The Old Foreman had also not instructed anyone from the Miners’ Mutual Aid Association to contact him.

So it wasn’t until now that He Ao learned about the major incident that had occurred this afternoon.

Quickly, He Ao realized what this event meant.

The miners discovered their own were dead, and the Mining Consortium realized their people were dead, even discovering that a member of their board had died.

The sword that had been wrapped in cloth now fully revealed its bloody edge.

The conflict had completely escalated.

The situation had proceeded as expected, but to the worst possible scenario.

More miners would definitely band together to resist, and the Mining Consortium would organize more manpower for suppression.

The unarmed miners had no chance against the violent entities of the Mining Consortium, led by the ruthless Mayor.

This incident would most likely end in the miners’ defeat.

Many people were about to die, and the struggle wouldn’t stop until the blood flowed sufficiently.

"What did the Old Foreman do?"

He Ao looked towards Watson.

Seeing Watson and the others here, it was likely that the Old Foreman had made his own response decision.

"The Old Foreman made a speech."

Watson spoke slowly.

Upon hearing that, the only thought in He Ao’s mind was,

It’s out of control.
