Surge of burning flames, wild and cruel laughter, people’s screams, sobs, and the sounds of struggle and flailing.
A scene akin to hell itself composed the entirety of this small town under the night sky.
This place might once have been rich, with carriages carrying wealth flowing through the streets.
But now, where the imprints of carriages once flowed, blood and flames gradually spread.
He Ao straightened his clothes and twirled his dagger, step by step, he approached the chaotic scene.
Something seemed to stir within his bloodlines.
That was the most primal restlessness belonging to this body.
The power of Bitter Monkey grew stronger with injury, the power of ’Challenger’ strengthened with the pressure of battle.
And ’Ruthless Bandit’.
The more people he killed, the stronger his power became.
When the killing began, the most exquisite music seemed to ring in He Ao’s ears.
His body danced to this music, his sturdy dagger piercing one throat after another.
Blood stained his clothes, layer upon layer.
Whenever someone from afar thought to attack He Ao,
He Ao would lift his submachine gun.
With the gunfire sounding like rhythmic beats, he planted a red flower in the center of that person’s forehead.
Killing was addictive.
With the sound of blades slicing flesh and waves of power that surged like the tide,
this extreme pleasure was something no drug in the world could provide.
When Zuo Nuo arrived with the pirates, the entire town had fallen into an eerie silence.
Only the quiet sobs ruled by fear echoed alongside the dilapidated cement roads.
Bodies everywhere and the flowing crimson made up the entirety of this small town.
Zuo Nuo, trembling, stepped over a corpse, glanced at the muddy redness underfoot, leaned on the motorcycle beside him for support, and then, filled with terror, step by step he followed the path paved with carcasses.
Behind him, even the battle-hardened pirates, upon seeing this terrifying scene, trembled so hard they could barely move forward.
This seemed not to be the work of human hands, but as if devils from hell had descended upon the mortal realm.
By the time Zuo Nuo found He Ao, He Ao was standing atop a jeep, casually pulling his dagger from the neck of the domineering pirate leader.
This pirate leader was a D-level Transcendent, but what his level was no longer mattered.
The joyous song of slaughter echoed in He Ao’s mind, for at this moment, to He Ao’s eyes, there was little difference between this D-level and an ordinary person.
He hadn’t even had time to react before his throat was pierced by He Ao.
He Ao turned his gaze to the young driver next to the leader who was driving for him, who was now pointing a gun at him.
In the instant He Ao’s gaze shifted, the young driver immediately put down the gun and raised his hands.
His actions were quick, but He Ao’s were quicker.
The sharp tip of the knife stopped instantly in front of his throat.
The cold blade exuded a call of death.
With just one step, the knife tip would penetrate his throat, ending his life.
A large drop of sweat slid down the side of the driver’s face onto the cold blade, splashing a small spray of water.
He Ao withdrew the dagger, twirled it, and slipped it back into his waistband.
Almost at the same moment, the pleasant song in his ears abruptly stopped, and the severe withdrawal reaction made his body stiffen for an instant.
Just as Noan had said,
Transcendents were monsters teetering on the edge of madness.
If it had been Hu Wen standing here instead of He Ao,
none of these Rogue Soldiers, the town, including Zuo Nuo and the pirates following behind, would live to see tomorrow’s sun.
Those who cannot control the Talent Sequences get controlled by them.
Fall in pleasure, go mad in abandonment.
"My lord,"
Zuo Nuo, trembling more than ever before, looked up at He Ao, his fear greater than any time before.
Just like someone with a fear of heights standing on top of a hundred-story building and looking down.
With each word spoken, his heart would stop for a moment.
He Ao turned around, glanced at him, his gaze sweeping over the trembling and fearful residents, and said softly, "Find a few people to clean up the street and put out the fires for these residents."
"Yes."
Zuo Nuo, shaking, uttered a response, then immediately looked back at the pirates and issued a few commands.
Having been a Free Marine, he was old hand at these tasks.
By the time he had finished speaking, He Ao had also stepped down from the jeep and into a pool of blood.
Zuo Nuo, realizing that He Ao stood behind him, hurriedly said, "My lord, I will take you to Mr. Noding’s residence."
Actually, by this time, Zuo Nuo had also noticed that something was not quite right, but he was already like a rat on a hot tin roof and had to proceed regardless.
Zuo Nuo took He Ao through twists and turns until they arrived at a desolate courtyard, with a rust-covered lock on the gate and wild grass growing within.
It looked as if it had not been inhabited for several years.
At the sight of this yard, Zuo Nuo stiffened in place.
He Ao, however, didn’t seem to mind as he stepped past Zuo Nuo and toward the gate.
The lock on the gate had been smashed, and the door swung open, the Rogue Soldiers not having spared even this deserted yard.
He Ao stepped over the threshold and into the house, where furniture broken was scattered about, and all the cupboards were open with a few small items left in disarray inside.
All the valuable things must have been looted.
He Ao activated his Super Memory and glanced around, taking in all the information of the house at a glance.
Zuo Nuo, trembling behind He Ao, dared not breathe too loudly, in fear that He Ao’s displeasure might reduce him to just another body lying in a pool of blood outside.
"It seems that your ’good friend’, since meeting you once three years ago, hasn’t stayed here since?"
He Ao asked quietly, looking at the calendar on the table that had stopped at three years ago.
This directly scared Zuo Nuo so much that his legs gave out, and he knelt on the ground, with ’My lord, have mercy’ at the tip of his tongue.
"It’s okay, stand up."
But before he could utter the words, He Ao reached out to pat his shoulder, smiling as he turned to walk out of the courtyard.
Zuo Nuo stood up trembling, not understanding why He Ao had spared him, and cautiously followed behind him.
"Work hard."
He Ao suddenly said.
Zuo Nuo’s body shuddered as if a flash of enlightenment crossed his mind.
I wasn’t killed because I am useful, as long as I remain useful, I can live well.
In that moment, he had an epiphany and quickly said, "Thank you, sir, thank you, sir, I will definitely work hard, work hard."
The chaotic glow of fire shone on He Ao’s lean figure, illuminating the scattered corpses and pools of bright red blood.
It was as if a divine being’s brush had outlined the traces in blood.
This scene was forever etched in Zuo Nuo’s heart, engrained into his soul.
It made him dare not harbor any other thoughts but to think of how to show his worth and live well.
He swallowed and tossed the motorcycle keys from his hand into the overgrown grass, quickly catching up to He Ao’s steps.
The key was something he had pulled out from a motorcycle at the crossroads; he had planned to ride away quietly while He Ao wasn’t paying attention.
But having witnessed the scene before him, he no longer dared to entertain such thoughts.
Fear had forever taken root in his heart.
······
He Ao stood under the brightest streetlamp, watching the residents who were putting out the flames and clearing the bodies.
The residents didn’t dare to look He Ao in the eye, fear made them lower their heads when passing by him, as they were terrified that a mere glance could bring upon them the calamity of death.
He Ao did not pay attention to these villagers; his gaze swept through the streets.
From the beginning, He Ao had not placed his hopes on Zuo Nuo.
But he had to come to this town regardless.
It is better to rely on oneself than to ask others for help.
The people from Daybreak in Alano had strong anti-surveillance capabilities; even the Research Institute couldn’t catch their trail, and for He Ao alone, apprehending them in a short time was even harder.
Since it’s difficult to take the initiative to find people, then change the approach.
At that moment, amidst the shadows of people bowing their heads to steer clear of He Ao, a frail figure suddenly moved against the flow. She walked slowly, trembling among the crowd until she reached He Ao, extending the flower in her hand to him.
"Thank you."
She said softly and tremulously, her head bowed.
She was the girl He Ao had saved at the crossroads earlier.
She was very afraid, and yet she had still come.
"No need to thank me."
He Ao took the flower from her hand and gently shook his head.
The girl looked visibly startled; she seemed not to have expected He Ao to accept her flower, or perhaps she hadn’t anticipated any outcome from her actions at all but had simply charged forward with a heart full of courage and sincere gratitude.
She looked up at He Ao blankly for a moment, then immediately lowered her head, running off with an emotion that could either be excitement or fear.
And her actions, just like the first domino in a line to be toppled, triggered a cascade of reactions.
Many of those who had just been saved by He Ao cautiously approached him, expressing their gratitude.
He Ao responded to each one of them.
Of course, even more people were still watching from a distance, not daring to come forward.
Yet even so, the oppressive atmosphere seemed to have been largely dispelled, and people were no longer gripped by extreme fear but began to engage wholeheartedly in the cleanup of their homeland.
As he watched the houses aflame slowly being put out, He Ao summoned a pirate and ordered him to call over most of the pirates from the ship and camp in the town.
By the way, He Ao also had the pirate bring most of the money from the pirate ship.
Zuo Nuo blinked from behind.
The pirates had no money—that money belonged to him, and it had been looted by the pirate chief whom He Ao had killed.
But since He Ao wanted to use that money, he dared not refuse.
Noticing Zuo Nuo’s expression, He Ao turned around, smiled at him, and asked, "Want to make a big sum of money?"
Zuo Nuo first gasped in surprise, then quickly shook his head, indicating he dared not take the money.
He Ao, however, shook his head. He walked over to a motorcycle nearby, pulled out the keys and tossed them to Zuo Nuo, then he found a resident and asked for a piece of paper to write a message, handing it to Zuo Nuo,
"This land borders the territory of the Coastline Defense Force. You set out now, take a few pirates with you, and deliver this note to the Leader of the Coastline Defense Force before tomorrow morning."
Zuo Nuo stiffened as he took the motorcycle keys, then shakily accepted the note, immediately nodding, "I guarantee to complete the task!"
He Ao found the jeep that the former Rogue Soldiers’ commander had used, rummaged around, and pulled out two satellite phones, tossing one to Zuo Nuo, "Go."
Once Zuo Nuo got the satellite phone working, he left with a few men.
Shortly after, most of the pirates arrived in the small town under the leadership of the supply ship’s old captain, also bringing several neatly packed boxes of money.
He Ao first gathered a few Rogue Soldiers who had been scared witless and surrendered, handing each one a handful of money,
"You run, the farther the better. I don’t care how you do it—make calls, find friends, relatives, even on foot—but you will spread this message to all the former Leaders of the Free Marines,
’Daybreak has returned to Naya Town, all Leaders must come and meet immediately’."
There was no need to scare those Rogue Soldiers; He Ao standing there was terror itself.
They nodded over and over and fled, scrambling to find some cars to make their escape.
Then He Ao found some more pirates, sprinkled them with money, and instructed them to take speedboats to spread the message to various islands.
Once everyone had left, He Ao watched the streets that had been mostly cleared, with residents laboriously washing away the mottled bloodstains.
Alano was actually quite large, and a single night might not be enough to cover the areas surrounding Naya Town.
But Alano was also very small.
Phones and the internet that disregarded distance connected everyone together.
As long as one Leader knew.
Then very soon, most Leaders would know.
Daybreak would also quickly find out.
Naya Town was about to become the epicenter of turbulent change across Alano.
He Ao had never thought of handing the initiative over to someone else. He didn’t need to search for Daybreak; he could make Daybreak come to him.
