In that instant, he violently retreated, but it was already too late.
Amidst the chaotic curtain of rain, countless slender iron thorn barricades were pulled in, swiftly entangling his body and wrapping him into a bundle.
He struggled fiercely, but as the iron thorn barricades twisted together, the more he struggled, the more entangled they became, gripping him ever tighter.
Kyle desperately tried to tear through the iron thorn barricades, his fists pushing into the gaps, and he violently pulled the sides apart, ripping a huge gash in the tangled barricades.
However, before he could feel triumphant, as he tore open the barricade, a silver sword light followed in quick succession, piercing through his chest and impaling his heart.
He Ao twisted the blade and pulled it downwards, tearing open a huge gash in Kyle’s pierced chest, then he retracted his sword and backed away, distancing himself from Kyle.
The ’Hunter’s’ strength was never in physical combat, but rather in setting traps and luring victims. Ronald had rich experience in this aspect, and the iron thorn barricade trap was something He Ao had set up during the brief moment when the lights were off and Kyle was chatting through the TV.
Though the time was short, the trap itself wasn’t difficult to set up. All he needed to do was to pull over all the surrounding iron thorn barricades and set the trigger lines, after all, He Ao’s goal was to hinder Kyle, not to truly trap him.
He Ao kept retreating and watched Kyle, whose heart had been pierced. Even the powerful C-level beings of the Copy World were not so easy to kill, and according to He Ao’s recent speculation about Kyle’s abilities, he would have a brief surge of power even after being seriously injured.
Indeed, almost simultaneously with He Ao’s retreat, Kyle violently tore apart the surrounding iron thorn barricades and leapt out.
But this time, he didn’t leap towards He Ao; instead, he jumped towards the exit, seemingly preparing to flee.
With his heart impaled, he wouldn’t live much longer.
He Ao frowned and chased after him with great speed.
----
Kyle didn’t get far before he saw a vehicle with its lights on through the rain ahead.
As he approached, he saw the neatly dressed Carven opening the car door, with four tall figures, obviously C-level Mechanically Modified men, standing around him, forming a protective circle.
One of the strong men held a slick, exquisite, long-handled umbrella, shielding Carven from the rain above.
"Mr. Kyle, what happened to you?"
Carven looked at Kyle’s wounds with a hint of surprise, but still maintained his almost petrified composure and smile. He lifted his wrist and took out his phone, "I have a private doctor. I will call him to come by helicopter immediately. Hold on, get in the car first."
Kyle looked at Carven’s refined smiling face.
Suddenly, he laughed.
He stood in the raging rain, his golden hair and exquisite suit completely soaked with blood and water.
He stood there.
Just like the night his parents jumped from the building, when the company’s cleanup crew took away the unrecognizable corpses, he stood there alone.
It rained that day, too.
He suddenly laughed, looking at Carven who pretended to be anxious. The strong bodyguards kept him more than a meter away from Carven. "Mr. Carven, did you participate in the stock price manipulation of Abert Intelligent Machinery thirty-five years ago?"
"It’s been too long, I can’t remember clearly," Carven gently shook his head, "I was young at that time and had been involved in many projects."
"Yes, for you, it was just an insignificant act, not even worth remembering."
Kyle chuckled, and in that instant, taking advantage of the unpreparedness of the surrounding bodyguards, he burst through the one in front of him and with a look of astonishment on Carven’s face, grabbed Carven’s neck with one hand and hoisted him up.
Carven’s breathing passage was clamped shut, leading to his gradual oxygen deprivation. His calm smile turned to a purplish hue, losing its usual grace.
He opened his mouth, writhing like a fish on shore, struggling for more oxygen,
"Kyle... what... are... you doing?"
Kyle looked at Carven’s now frantic and disrupted composure, satisfied with the sight of his panic before death, and smiled contentedly.
Blood oozed from the corner of his mouth; his body had reached its ultimate limit.
With a twist of his wrist and before the bodyguards could react, he snapped Carven’s neck.
"You cur."
----
By the time He Ao arrived, Kyle was standing amidst a pile of shattered mechanical wreckage.
Blood had soaked through his clothes, dyeing his entire body crimson.
The violent rain twisted his golden hair into a messy straw-like mat.
He shattered the last Mechanically Modified bodyguard in front of him, looked up with some madness in his eyes, and stared at He Ao.
Even at this point, his strength had not waned in the slightest.
He heard footsteps, looked up at He Ao, cracked a smile, raised his fist, and charged at He Ao once again.
He Ao calmly watched him, watched as the silver fist rushed towards his face.
It wasn’t until the punch flew past He Ao’s cheek, and the shattering rain splashed across his face, that something changed.
Kyle’s entire body stiffened, and in an instant, he leaned forward and fell before He Ao.
To have lived this long with a pierced heart was almost a miracle.
"Kill..."
Kyle opened his mouth, blood spilled from his lips, he seemed to want to say something, but no words came out.
His mouth slightly agape, his body gradually becoming rigid, his eyes slowly closed.
This time, he stopped breathing forever.
He Ao watched the scene unfold before him.
The ground was littered with shattered mechanical limbs, the bodyguard with wide-open eyes, and Carven, lying amidst all the wreckage, his eyes bulging out, his face filled with disbelief.
Indeed, He Ao had been conspiring to drive a wedge between Kyle and Carven, because Carven must have brought at least C-level bodyguards, and if the two had joined forces, He Ao might not have been able to handle them with such ease.
And Kyle and Carven had fundamental contradictions.
Because of his tumultuous childhood, Kyle was tyrannical and suspicious, with a strong desire to control. He did not trust the Nord Group, and his presence would affect Nord’s takeover of Kyle Manufacturing Company, becoming an unstable factor.
Once Nord Group really wanted to use Kyle Manufacturing Company to make money, they would definitely try to sideline Kyle.
On the other hand, because his parents’ stock trading led to their bankruptcy and subsequent suicide, leaving him an orphan, no matter how much time passed, that incident would always be etched in his heart. Therefore, he had an innate distaste for Nord Group’s manipulation of stock prices.
He Ao had considered the possibility that Kyle might kill Carven, but he deemed that probability quite low, so he still prepared a contingency plan against Carven.
Now, that contingency plan seemed unnecessary.
He Ao stepped over Kyle’s body, entering the pile of mechanical wreckage, and walked up to Carven.
He removed the smart bracelet from Carven’s wrist, placed it next to his own, and put it on.
"Eve, see if you can hack this bracelet."
"Okay."
Along with Eve’s gentle voice, He Ao walked back to Kyle’s body, lifted it up.
The body of a C-level Transcendent should not be carelessly discarded, lest it generates an item with terrifying supernatural effects.
The glow of a flashlight approached, as a tall man in black walked through the curtain of rain, umbrella in hand.
He was the same person who manned the gate with the thin man. He seemed to be searching for the skinny individual.
"Who’s that? What are you doing there?"
The flashlight’s beam shone upon He Ao as he held Kyle’s body, the blood flowing down his cheeks, casting him as a visitor from hell.
"The Devil!!!"
The tall man took one look, stepped back, and slipped to the ground. His flashlight fell to one side as he scrambled away in terror.
The cylindrical flashlight rolled to He Ao’s feet, its bright light illuminating the dense rain.
He Ao picked up the flashlight, his gaze fixed on the factory building darkened by the power outage behind him.
Brilliant lightning bridged heaven and earth, illuminating He Ao’s blood-stained figure.
Holding Kyle’s body, he walked slowly inside.
