"Taking over the left forearm."
"Left forearm takeover complete."
"Taking over the right forearm."
"Right forearm takeover complete."
...
"Taking over the Central Combat System."
"Takeover complete."
With Eve’s gentle voice, the massive doors of the energy chamber slowly closed.
He Ao didn’t need the Hell Apostle’s auxiliary operating system; it wasn’t as handy as Eve.
He also didn’t need high-performance batteries; they couldn’t match the output of his mini fusion reactor.
Streams of surging brilliance flowed out from He Ao’s mech, pouring into massive energy conduits.
Lights flickered on across the dark mech’s body, until dazzling brilliance shone from its eyes.
Controlling the Hell Apostle, He Ao moved a bit, then slowly raised his head.
Overhead was a huge circular steel hatch, presumably a mech exit designed by Chaos.
Such hatches usually required a password to open, but now that the people around were dead, naturally no one was there to unlock it for He Ao.
He Ao stretched his hands behind his shoulders.
There were no jet engines on the back of the Hell Apostle, like the resplendent angelic wings of the Seraphim mechs, just two huge crossed swords.
He Ao drew the two massive swords.
Surging flames erupted from the Hell Apostle’s symmetric jet engines at its waist.
He leaped fiercely, slicing through the hatch above with one sword, suspending himself in the night shrouded by rain.
Across from him, on the rooftop, a seemingly cultured middle-aged man cracked his neck slightly.
He revealed a smile, "It seems I’m a bit late to the party, but it’s not too late now."
His body suddenly expanded, transforming into a three-meter-tall giant.
Then he crouched slightly, and then leaped into the air.
Crack—
The spot he had been standing on issued a faint sound, followed by web-like cracks spreading.
He Ao, swords in hand, crossed them in front of his chest.
Yalid collided with the crossed swords, forcing both to retreat a distance.
Screens of information appeared in He Ao’s view.
This was information from the butler.
The butler wasn’t with He Ao; he had been dispatched by He Ao to locate someone.
What displayed on He Ao’s main screen now was a set of location coordinates.
He Ao closed the window and glanced at Yalid before becoming entangled with him again.
As the two fought, they moved farther and farther from their original position.
——
"Flock, did you gather us here to take over as chairman of the board?"
Wearing a tall hat and leaning on the couch, the elderly man spoke softly.
The glow of the fire reflected on each person’s cheek.
The elderly man watched the neatly dressed elders sitting on the couch.
This was still the cabin deep within the pub, only this time without the dense crowd, just a few clearly older individuals.
Most were elders who had followed the Nolanka Group from the beginning, holding shares in the group, leaving their mark throughout the corporation, with followers and protégés scattered throughout, and besides the Nolanka family, they were the greatest power within.
If they decided to stake everything and unite, even the Nolanka family couldn’t do anything to them.
If "Vian" were to die, they would have the full capacity to rebuild a central institution within the group and quickly take control of the entire Nolanka Group.
They were all intelligent individuals, and far from kind-hearted.
With Yalid’s groundwork as a precursor, they all had a clear guess about Flock’s intentions.
After all, following Vian’s death, the Nolanka Group would need a new leader, and many among them were coveting that position.
"If you want this position, I’m afraid you’re going to need a compelling reason."
Another elder picked up a glass of red wine from the table, speaking slowly and hoarsely.
"The Nolanka Group will go public. Before the IPO, I won’t touch any of the newly issued original shares."
Flock paused for a moment.
This was a concession of interests. If the coup succeeded, the issuance of these new shares would actually dilute the Nord family’s holdings, and once listed, these shares would become a substantial fortune,
"After clearing out ’Vian’s people, the general managers of various subsidiary companies and department heads will be recommended by the board," Flock continued.
That was a concession of power.
These were the two core points. After these concessions, the chair of the Nolanka Group’s board would no longer be like a king but more like a leader of an alliance.
But everyone was aware that this had to be done.
None among them had the absolute power to dominate others like Vian did. This type of concession was necessary, regardless of who became the chair of the board.
Flock’s stance was both an offer of terms and a show of his own attitude.
The fact that he could stand there, proactively gathering all directors, proved that he had the support of the Nord Consortium.
Everyone fell into a brief silence as they weighed the pros and cons.
Eventually, an aged voice chimed from the crowd, "I agree."
This voice became the first domino to fall.
"I agree."
"I agree."
Voices rose in succession.
A smile began to form on Flock’s face.
He was about to claim the most dazzling jewel of Kaye City.
Creak—
Just then, the old wooden door was slowly pushed open.
"I," a feeble voice accompanied the sharp creak of the door opening, "disagree."
—Two minutes earlier—
The battle between Yalid and He Ao had reached a fever pitch.
Unlike the previous pilot of the Blazing Angel Mech, with Eve’s help, He Ao could almost effortlessly command the Hell Apostle; and Yalid’s swollen figure was even larger than He Ao had been at that time.
This meant that Yalid couldn’t easily leverage the advantage of a smaller stature in his fight against He Ao.
More importantly, the Hell Apostle’s intended users were primarily wanderers and mercenaries in the wilderness, who lacked the coordinated combat capabilities of Federation forces that could deploy small machinery to cover mecha; hence, the Hell Apostle came equipped with numerous agile components designed to fend off smaller foes.
He Ao made very agile use of these small mechanical arms and machine guns, leaving several marks on Yalid’s body.
But Yalid’s explosive power was even stronger than Chaos’s.
Chaos might have had a high Talent, but after all, he was too young.
Whether it was the use of power, mastery of Talent Sequences, or combat experience, Yalid was more practiced and more formidable, and that was the source of his confidence.
Several times, He Ao nearly let Yalid breach his defenses and strike near the cockpit.
The Hell Apostle also sustained multiple damages.
After a brief exchange of blows, He Ao pushed Yalid back, and while retreating, asked in a soft voice,
"Are you trying to throw Kaye City into chaos to please the God of Chaos?"
