Boom—

A thunderclap erupted in the sky.

He Ao looked up at the sky, as cold raindrops fell on his cheeks, slightly alleviating some of the pain on his skin.

The sound of drizzling rain rose on the silent, deserted streets, the droplets falling from the sky.

Under this rain, the fierce flames inside the car shrunk a little.

The figure following He Ao looked up at the raining sky.

Slowly, he reached inside his wide coat.

Clear raindrops fell on the heavy, dry coat, casting faint colors on the shallow fluff.

His hand gradually came out from the coat, his index finger and middle finger joined to pinch a white cigarette, which he lit with a silver lighter.

The specks of orange-yellow flames flickered amidst the rain, and behind their dappled light, another man at his side slowly drew a pitch-black handgun from his coat and aimed it at He Ao’s back.

His index finger rested on the trigger.

Bang—

A bright yellow bullet exited the muzzle, striking the fiercely burning car.

In this instant, everyone’s movements paused, and the gunman immediately shifted his aim.

But it was too late, a pitch-black elbow extended from behind his right shoulder, clamping down on his chin.

The smoking man turned around, angrily staring at He Ao who was holding the gunman’s chin.

And behind him, a slim figure peeked out, pulling a silver knife from his waist while looking up at He Ao.

In the moment he was under the slim figure’s gaze, He Ao felt all of his emotions quiet down, his mind went blank.

He had once experienced this ability in another person, during the selection for a relic slot, a Transcendent of the conciliator class labeled "E".

He Ao calmly locked eyes with the slim figure, then calmly grasped the back of the gunman’s head with his left hand, his left hand angled upward, his right hand angled downward, he applied force with both hands.

The gunman realized something at that moment, but it was already too late.

Crack—

A crisp snap was heard, the gunman’s body stiffened, his neck had been twisted, and his entire body lost support in an instant.

All this happened very quickly, in the blink of an eye, the slim figure had barely gripped the knife handle, and the smoking man was taking steps to rush towards He Ao when the gunman was already dead.

But He Ao’s actions did not stop, his right hand followed through, lifting the gunman’s hand that still clutched the pistol.

Simultaneously, his left hand gripped the gunman’s left shoulder, rotating his corpse towards the smoking man and the slim figure behind him.

His index finger slid through the trigger guard, overlapping the gunman’s stiff index finger, and slowly pulled the trigger.

Bang—

The fierce bullet pierced through the slim figure’s forehead, blowing out the back of his head.

"Ah!!!"

In the moment the gunshot sounded, the smoking man bellowed, his body suddenly swelled, like an enraged bull.

He was fast, and in an instant, his fist smashed towards He Ao’s face.

He Ao sidestepped, releasing the corpse of the gunman, dodging the smoking man’s attack and fell beside the slim figure whose wide eyes were rolling back as he collapsed.

Then he pulled out the silver knife that the slim figure was gripping tightly, originally meant to stab He Ao, and with a violent motion, he hurled it forward.

The sharp blade pierced through the raging smoking man’s neck, and bright red blood sprayed out amidst the rain.

He Ao did not look at the smoking man but turned his attention to a badge reflecting a faint glow inside the slim figure’s coat, which was a silver wolf’s head badge.

He withdrew his gaze, deactivated "Super Memory," and slowly walked past the men, continuing towards the still-flaming car.

Spurt—spurt—spurt—

It was the sound of three bodies hitting the ground one after another in the curtain of rain.

The gunman was likely a "mercenary"; the man with the cigarette could be "Bull"; the skinny one should be a "conciliator." All three were E class, long-range, support, and close combat - a complete three-person squad. In a real fight, some ordinary D class might not be able to beat them.

He Ao advanced step by step. The stinging on his body became more pronounced after some vigorous movement tore through some of his burned muscles and skin.

But the pitch-black rain curtain brought a bit of coolness, slightly soothing the burning sensation of his burns.

Staggering, He Ao stepped up to the sedan and reached into the flames of the passenger side, quickly locating a scorching metal box.

He bore the pain, grabbed the handle of the box, and forcefully lifted it out.

Cool raindrops hit the box, letting out a ’sizzle-’ sound of searing, and steam rose up in wisps.

A black sedan pulled up in front of He Ao.

The door opened, and a silver-haired elderly man wearing a neat suit slowly stepped out,

"Master Vian."

The elder opened the back door of the car, reaching out to take the box from He Ao’s hand.

"No need."

He Ao waved his hand and hoarsely replied, pressing a button on the inside of the door.

A pitch-black mechanical arm extended from behind the seat, taking the still-hot metal box from his hand.

Then he slowly settled into the soft leather back seat.

With the light sound of the car door closing, the elderly man sitting back in the passenger seat quietly asked, "Shall we go to your private doctor’s place?"

"No, let’s go home. Please have Mr. Ike come over."

He Ao watched the back of the silver-haired elderly man and hoarsely said.

This man was Vian’s butler, Danny, to be precise Danny Lowe, with Danny being Vian’s nickname for him.

After the death of Vian’s parents, it was he who pretty much looked after Vian’s daily life; he was the person Vian trusted most.

Vian’s car was equipped with a signal emitter, the receiving end of which was in Danny’s hands. If Vian encountered an accident, Danny could immediately come to the rescue.

A wave of severe exhaustion swept over him.

Leaning against the seat, He Ao slowly closed his eyes.

The pitch-black sedan drove into the misty nightscape under the curtain of rain.

Not long after the sedan left, a figure in a tattered jacket and brown pants with torn hems stepped out from the curtain of rain.

He walked up to the three dead bodies, squatted down, and with his broad palm gripped the handle of the silver knife, then slowly pulled it out, bit by bit.

The rainwater wet his long hair, flowing down his prominent cheekbones.

"Who’s there?"

In the dim streetlight, a man wearing a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent’s uniform stepped forward, holding a gun, and walked step by step towards the silhouette squatting next to the bodies in the tattered jacket.

The figure slowly turned his head.

His eyes were wide open, filled with dense red veins, the muscles on his cheeks pulling at his lips to reveal neatly aligned snow-white teeth and the red gums.

"Who are you?"

The agent swallowed, staring blankly at the figure.

Thud—

The neatly-dressed figure slowly fell.

The splintering brown pants parted from the fallen body, and fresh red blood flowed with the clear rainwater into the low drainage entrance.

He lightly stood on his toes, hopping away step by step, as if dancing in the rain curtain.

The rain was getting heavier.
