Chapter 1392: Chapter 1392: Setting the Trap (Long Chapter Asking for Monthly Votes)

"Who is this?" The silver-haired elder looked at He Ao with a bit of hesitation, then turned his head, with a touch of doubt and uncertainty in his voice, towards Vigina.

"Paxiu," Vigina said casually, then immediately, before the silver-haired elder could ask the next question, she added, "Yes, the one mentioned on the wanted poster over there."

"Ah, I see," the silver-haired elder took out a silk handkerchief from his chest pocket and lightly wiped his forehead.

"Friend, are you a bit afraid of me?" At that moment, a soft whisper sounded in his ear.

His body suddenly stiffened, and he turned his head to look at the source of the voice.

Unbeknownst to him, He Ao had appeared at his side, squinting slightly with a smile on his face as he looked at him.

Those calm eyes seemed to conceal a bloodthirsty lone wolf, ready at the next moment to leap out and tear him into shreds.

The silver-haired elder’s body froze there. Subconsciously wanting to swallow, he forced himself to hold back and looked at Vigina, rasping, "Miss Vigina, have you captured this assassin?"

"Mr. Paxiu is willing to cooperate as a key witness and has provided crucial evidence," Vigina looked at him with a smile, speaking softly, "Do you think my evidence is reliable now?"

"Of course, Director Vigina can catch this ruthless assassin," the silver-haired elder instinctively glanced at He Ao nearby as he spoke.

By this point, He Ao had moved away from his side, his fingers interlocked behind his head, gazing idly at the surrounding buildings.

Yet, almost at that moment, He Ao turned his head and smirked at him.

The silver-haired elder immediately withdrew his gaze and looked at Vigina, whispering, "Director Vigina, your management of the suspect seems a bit lax."

"We’re short-staffed lately; that’s the situation," Vigina just smiled casually, "But Mr. Paxiu has been very cooperative throughout."

Hearing this, the silver-haired elder instinctively wanted to turn his head to look at He Ao but quickly restrained himself, taking a deep breath.

By now, he faintly realized that he was being suppressed by the momentum of Vigina and He Ao. If this continued, he would be completely led into Vigina’s rhythm.

He raised his hand, and a man who appeared to be a Kewort Group executive immediately handed over a golden cane with a jewel embedded at its top.

He grasped the cane and pressed it against the ground, making a slight sound.

At this moment, he seemed to regain a bit of confidence. He lifted his head, glanced at the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents blocking the building entrance below, then looked at Vigina, "I wonder how Director Vigina intends to search the tower? From your stance, it seems like you want to lock down the entire building,"

His tone paused briefly before continuing, "But it was only our security minister who committed the crime; sealing the entire building doesn’t seem reasonable, does it?"

"Who knows if your security minister is wandering around everywhere?" Vigina looked up at the tall building ahead. Since arriving in Denno City, she had stood in front of this building multiple times, but she never had the opportunity to formally enter it.

She turned her gaze to the silver-haired elder, "To capture all individuals who may pose a threat to the President and uncover the true mastermind behind the assassination attempt, I need to search the entire Kewort Tower in Denno City,"

She gazed at the silver-haired elder and continued, "From the first floor to the top floor, and even the basement and underground vaults, we need to search everywhere. During the search, everything in this building must be sealed to prevent malicious individuals from destroying evidence."

She paused, watching the growing discomfort on the elder’s face, seriously continuing, "Since the Federal Bureau of Investigation is short-staffed, the search may involve examining extensive documents and materials, which might prolong the sealing time, but we will complete the search as quickly as possible."

"Director Vigina, this building is the main workplace for the Kewort Group in Denno City, and it contains numerous confidential commercial documents—" The silver-haired elder didn’t wait for Vigina to continue but quickly yelled.

"But it might also hold documents relating to the assassination attempt on the President, threatening the Federation’s security," Vigina calmly interrupted him, "For the Federation’s safety, I must inspect all computers and documents to find the mastermind behind it all."

Nearby, He Ao quietly observed the two arguing individuals, his gaze directed towards the depths of the street.

In reality, the search warrant Vigina obtained didn’t permit a full search of the Kewort Group tower, only the security minister’s office and specified areas of the underground vaults.

The Federal Judge who authorized the warrant was a friend of Vigina’s, willing to risk offending the Kewort Group to issue the warrant, not just for her relationship with Vigina but also because He Ao provided ’solid’ evidence—the café footage from this afternoon when he chatted with the security minister.

The surveillance system had been tampered with by a remote operator, but Eve managed to preserve the original footage before it was destroyed.

The entire video documented He Ao’s conversation with the security minister, including He Ao’s question that contained the phrase ’assassinate the President’.

With such ’evidence’, the Federal Judge approved the search warrant.

However, even then, the warrant only allowed a search of the security minister’s office. It was He Ao’s ’testimony’ that enabled the inclusion of specific areas of the underground vaults.

Of course, convincing the Kewort Group to open the vaults for ’inspection’ was their issue to handle.

Federal search warrants are generally effective, and few are willing to directly challenge the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Federal Central.

But this is mostly true for small conglomerates and most others.

For major conglomerates, if they wanted to deliberately stall, moving all ’evidence’ away during the delay isn’t impossible either.

Especially in a situation like Denno City.

At this moment, in Denno City, the organization with the strongest armed force isn’t the City Police Bureau, nor is it the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or even those suddenly arrived Ains people.

It is the Kewort Group.

Boom——

In He Ao’s distant sight, amidst the intense roar, armored vehicles emerged from both sides of the street, blocking the entire road.

He Ao turned his gaze to the other end of the street, where several armored vehicles were also speeding towards them.

Mercenaries dressed in uniforms bearing the Kewort Group’s emblem alighted from the armored vehicles, surrounding the federal agents’ vehicles from front and back.

The onlookers immediately retreated upon seeing the armored vehicles, ducking into nearby shops along the street.

The terrifying and cold press of steel spread throughout the street at this moment.

He Ao withdrew his gaze, looking towards Vigina and the silver-haired elder.

Currently, in and around Denno City, Kewort has at least half a mercenary corps active.

Without relying on city walls, in such a small city, the City Defense Army might not even compare to a super conglomerate’s mercenary corps.

Although Kewort Group has only recently entered the ranks of super conglomerates, they have been a major conglomerate for many years, unlike Kajet, a ’nouveau riche’ of a different caliber.

In this city, if the Kewort Group truly wants to go against the Federal Bureau of Investigation aggressively, relying purely on procedural methods will be difficult to handle them.

By now, Vigina also noticed the armored units approaching from both sides, and she looked at the silver-haired elder calmly, "What? Does the Kewort Group plan to go to war with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Federal Central?"

"Director Vigina, please calm down," the silver-haired elder’s tone turned slightly ’calm’ upon seeing the armored vehicles arrive. Leaning on his cane, he smiled, "These units are merely troops resting around the Group tower; there aren’t many, just a small detachment,"

He glanced at the evidently somewhat flustered Denno City federal agents below, continuing, "We cannot and will not challenge the authority of the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

His underlying message was clear—showing off their strength, ’This is just a small detachment; in Denno City, we have many more troops.’

Finishing this, he shifted his tone and continued, "But if someone attempts to forcibly endanger the Kewort Group’s interests, we would have no choice but to engage in self-defense."

After speaking, he squinted his eyes and smiled at Vigina.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Denno City was not completely under Vigina’s control, and internal discord meant that problems would naturally arise from within.

Almost immediately after he finished speaking, an older FBI agent moved over toward Vigina.

"Oh, I see," Vigina merely nodded lightly upon hearing his words, "then I’ll start searching."

And at this moment, as the older FBI agent approached, Vigina glanced at him and quickly said, "You’ve come at the right time. As per the original plan, take a large squad inside the building and first gain control of the main computer."

"Huh?" The older FBI agent was slightly stunned.

"As FBI agents, our mission is to maintain the Federation’s order. If we’re intimidated by a few armored vehicles, it’s best not to be part of the FBI," Vigina glanced at him and then at the many young FBI agents below, "Let’s proceed with the operation."

Having said that, Vigina turned around and walked into the depths of the entire building.

The entire area in front of the Kewort Group building, and even the whole street, fell silent at this moment.

At this moment, everyone fixed their gaze on the woman with tawny and golden hair walking alone toward the building’s entrance.

The electromagnetic gun barrels on the armored vehicles slowly rotated, aiming at the moving figure.

Bang—Bang—Clang—

High boots tapped sharply in the silent night, producing crisp sounds.

It was like a rapid drumbeat, pounding on everyone’s heart.

Thump—

A soft footstep followed the sound of the boots.

As Vigina passed by He Ao, who was still resting his head on his hands, he naturally turned and followed behind her.

The footsteps echoing in the night approached the open doors of the building step by step.

At this moment, the doorway, brightly lit, looked like a gaping abyss, as if ready to devour anyone reaching it at any moment.

Thump—Thump—Thump—

A faint, urgent sound came to He Ao’s ears.

It was the sound of Vigina’s heartbeat.

He looked at the pale side of the woman’s face in front of him.

Vigina’s expression remained calm, with no noticeable change in her pace or breathing, but her heartbeat was racing.

Faster than her steps.

Under the silent night sky, people were quiet. Be it the FBI agents, the mercenaries on either side of the street, or the spectators poking their heads out of windows, everyone watched the scene.

Silently watching.

Across the entire street, only the faint creak of rotating electromagnetic gun barrels echoed quietly.

The silver-haired elder watched the scene quietly, with a trace of a cold smile on his lips.

Bang—

A soft sound came from the crowd, as if someone had taken a step forward but quickly retracted it.

The two figures continuing forward seemed to hear the sound, yet continued moving steadily.

Thump—

When Vigina was just five steps away from the building’s door, a crisp footstep was heard in the night.

Thump thump thump—

Immediately followed by a series of concentrated footsteps.

The young FBI agents quickly moved forward, resolutely marching toward the open building doors.

They passed by the older agent who had just tried to "persuade" Vigina, through the gaps among the Kewort Group executives, and past the silver-haired elder.

The smile at the corner of the silver-haired elder’s mouth froze on his face.

The crowd quickly followed the two steps ahead, heading toward the grandly lit yet oppressively terrifying building.

Creak—

The electromagnetic gun barrels rotated rapidly, quickly aiming.

"Wait a moment!"

As Vigina and He Ao were about to pass through the building doors, a soft shout suddenly came from behind them.

He Ao and Vigina paused, exchanging a barely detectable glance.

"Director Vigina, what would it take for you to call off the search?" the silver-haired elder asked hoarsely, gazing at the backs of He Ao and Vigina.

"I will not call off the search," Vigina replied calmly without turning back. With that said, she prepared to continue forward.

"But the Kewort Group cannot allow commercial secrets to be exposed to outsiders unrelated to the group," the silver-haired elder immediately retorted coldly.

"It seems you’re bent on it," at this point, He Ao turned around with a smile, addressing the silver-haired elder, "Why not both take a step back? Just search the area where the troublemaker was active. You have surveillance, don’t you? Track where he went, and you’ll know."

The silver-haired elder felt a bit tense under He Ao’s gaze, but quickly composed himself, "We can allow an investigation of the Security Minister’s office at most."

"Impossible. Even if we don’t search the entire building," Vigina quickly retorted, "besides the office, we need to search other areas of activity and the underground vault where he might hide critical evidence."

"Director Vigina, your suggestion seems rather ’far-fetched’ to me," the silver-haired elder said coldly, eyeing Vigina.

"How about this," He Ao squinted, glancing at the two in a deadlock, and smiled, "Why not both of you take a step back?"

At that moment, Vigina looked at He Ao, paused for a moment, then turned around, speaking calmly, "My bottom line is the office and the vault. The vault must be searched. I have solid evidence that it contains crucial items stored by your Security Minister."

Upon hearing Vigina’s concession, the silver-haired elder heaved a sigh of relief internally.

However, after listening to Vigina’s words, his brow furrowed slightly once more.
