Chapter 1219: Chapter 1219: Old Friend Wishes to Meet (Large Chapter for Monthly Votes)

Standing in the noisy command room, the man in the gray military uniform raised his head, gazing at the brilliance in the night outside the window.

The brilliance at the very top resembled a wave, surging swiftly toward the summit of the hillside.

Yet, halfway into its advance, the wave of light was split apart by a dim "dagger" stabbing downward from above.

The dagger, akin to a stone reef along a shore, brutally divided the wave of light on both sides.

However, on both sides of this hillside lay towering cliffs.

The slope before the Northern Gate formed a funnel-like shape, narrowing as it stretched upward, flanked by towering precipices.

The upward wave of light was forcibly split to the sides, only to be squeezed back upon encountering the cliffs again.

As a result, the light-based squadron composed of flying combat aircraft became chaotic, disrupted, and decidedly slowed in their movements.

Meanwhile, under the guidance of a mecha, the "dagger" squad rapidly darted side-to-side, slicing, fragmenting, and even fully obliterating some smaller aircraft squadrons that drifted away from their main formation due to the cuts.

The speed of the glowing wave was further affected—on this slope, the densely packed aircraft were held up by a small mecha squadron.

Some aircraft ascended hastily, attempting to bypass the chaos caused by the mecha squadron in the skies.

But soon, these aircraft lost control and plummeted into the swarm, exploding into fiery blossoms.

The man in the gray military uniform silently observed the spectacle before him. He parted his lips slightly and calmly said, "Send the mecha squads forward."

Outside the viewport, the dazzling army of light split to the sides, and a slender blade composed of mecha squadrons surged outward, heading toward the "dagger" weaving through the uppermost aircraft formation.

——

Within the battle formations,

One glowing mecha after another expanded within the screen on the control station in front of He Ao. Lowering his head, he tightened his grip on the control stick.

"A mecha combat team is charging rapidly toward us."

Inside the control room, Eve’s voice rang out in her usual calm tone.

He Ao abruptly pulled the control stick and activated the team channel behind him. Amid the intense mechanical sounds, he shouted, "Follow me."

The engines of the black-and-white Blazing Angel Mech roared with flames. He raised his head, looking at the densely-packed aircraft closing in and the mecha squadrons approaching from the distance.

Clutching the giant black-and-white sword firmly, he suddenly cleaved apart the right flank of the aircraft formation and charged straight in.

The mechas behind him promptly followed his path, rushing into the opening he had carved on the right.

As the entire mecha squad departed in an instant, the mercenary group’s mecha units arrived at the scene. They encountered nothing, as if their thrusting blade had pierced into thin air.

Nonetheless, without hesitation or regret, the mercenary squad adjusted their course, pursuing the departing Blazing Angel Mech team.

Despite their accelerating efforts, they could never catch up to the Blazing Angel Mech team.

From above the nighttime battlefield, the Blazing Angel Mech squadron transformed into nimble fish swimming through an ocean of light formed by the vast army.

The surrounding aircraft were effortlessly "shattered" and exploded along their path, while the mecha units from the mercenary group scrambled behind, chasing in vain.

The chaos stirred by these two mecha units plunged the already disarrayed fleet into even greater disorder, delaying their movements further.

Eventually, the commander of the mercenary group’s mecha units shifted tactics, dispersing the larger squadron into seven or eight smaller teams.

The slender blade fragmented into several "piranhas," encircling the "school of fish" formed by the Blazing Angel Mech team.

Using their agile movements, the Blazing Angel Mechs avoided multiple attacks, even seizing opportunities to counterstrike and annihilate one of the mercenary group’s mecha squads.

Yet, despite their efforts, the tightening encirclement by the mercenary mecha squads left the Blazing Angel Mech team with increasingly limited room to maneuver, forcing them toward the left cliff’s edge.

Meanwhile, the aircraft fleet, free from mecha interference, began regrouping, advancing toward the summit with renewed order.

At this moment, the black-and-white mech raised its gaze toward the direction of the Northern Gate.

The crude towers ahead had already illuminated, showcasing the bright glow of pre-charged laser cannons.

Underneath the towers, small electromagnetic cannons gleamed, ready to unleash their energy once more.

The defensive facilities before the Northern Gate had now attained preliminary offensive capabilities.

The mecha team’s mission was intended merely to buy time, an objective that led He Ao to avoid direct confrontations with the mercenary mecha teams, as it would have only allowed them to delay his forces instead.

Now that the defensive structures were nearing completion, their task was fulfilled.

He Ao’s black-and-white mech slowly withdrew its gaze. Looking toward the mountain summit and thus the path through the aircraft swarms, the mercenary group’s mecha teams stood furthest away, heavily concentrated, almost sealing off every escape route.

The nearby aircraft had also gathered, aligning with the barricading mechas to halt all advancement upward. It became clear that a consensus had been reached to entirely trap the Blazing Angel Mech squadron here.

The black-and-white mech shifted focus to the base of the hillside.

A dense cluster of aircraft loomed beneath, followed by ground troops keeping a certain distance, and at the very edge below, faint glimmers remained stationary.

Those glimmers likely marked the enemy’s command center.

This downhill direction offered closer, fewer mecha forces but far thicker enemy density—a seeming dead-end.

Clearly, the opposing commander intended to completely cleanse this area of forces.

While surveying the surroundings, the black-and-white mech gripped its giant sword tightly, dodging a laser beam fired by a nearby aircraft and slicing the aircraft in half.

He did not ascend, attempting to reach the Northern Gate, but instead dashed downhill without hesitation.

The mechas of the Blazing Angel squadron immediately followed, transforming into a dagger barreling downward toward the opposing army.

The two closest encircling mercenary mecha squads collided head-on with He Ao’s descending black-and-white mech; brilliant light streaks slashed through their forward machines, alongside rows of aircraft, exploding into roaring flames.

Behind He Ao, the Blazing Angel Mech team struck without pause, toppling mecha and aircraft at the periphery.

Surprise rippled through the enemy’s ranks; their focus on uphill scenarios resulted in inadequate preparations for downhill assaults.

The uphill-protecting mecha squads hesitated as if receiving orders, reversing course rapidly.

But it was too late—within moments the downward "path" had been completely torn open by the Blazing Angel team.

They pierced through the aircraft squadrons, entered the fleeting gap between mercenary planes and the ground troops, and instead of seeking escape routes back uphill toward the Northern Gate, they dived without hesitation into the ground troops. The attack cut through flesh and steel alike and plunged deep into the ranks below.

Moving at such speed, even the rear advancing ground units were left stunned by the maneuver.
