Naomi had just tidied up the chaotic tables and chairs when she saw He Ao walk out of the office, heading out of the restaurant.
"You’re going out again?"
She put away the cleaning cloth and looked at He Ao with curiosity.
"Yeah," He Ao nodded and said softly, "Get in touch with the Money Rat Gang, we can offer them a higher percentage for pumping Qi. Have them send someone to protect this area, Aston District has been quite restless lately."
"With your fighting skills, why would we need protection from anyone else?"
Naomi said with a smile.
"An extra layer of insurance means extra safety," He Ao considered for a moment, then suddenly looked at Naomi and asked, "You went to college, didn’t you?"
"Oh, if you mean that place where I racked up tens of thousands in debt I couldn’t clear and met three men who dumped me, then yes, I did go there."
Naomi shrugged her shoulders.
Hearing this, He Ao smiled, walked over to Naomi, and patted her shoulder gently, "Then we need to keep it going well, I believe in you."
After speaking, he closed his coat, turned around, and walked out of the restaurant.
"It’s different when a guy becomes handsome," Naomi watched bewilderingly as He Ao’s figure disappeared behind the door, "Even his words are all mysterious and enigmatic."
"der~"
A crisp clicking sound came from not far away, and Naomi turned her head to see Byrne leaning against the wall in front of the kitchen, striking a pose at her, "If you’re feeling frisky, I don’t mind offering my body for you to find some temporary comfort. Come on, sweetheart, there’s no one around right now."
Naomi: "Get lost."
——
Vianne checked her wristband, then continued to walk quietly forward.
Ever since she noticed those suddenly increased watchful eyes, she consciously moved towards more crowded places.
Even the most vicious cult members would not act recklessly on the main streets, as it might easily draw the attention of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
But this couldn’t ensure Vianne’s safety, after all, this was Aston District, where sudden deaths on the streets were commonplace.
Up ahead was a three-way intersection. Turning right would lead towards the safe house.
Vianne looked at her wristband again with a glance to the left and right, then proceeded to the left.
In the crowd, some Black Shadows gathered together, with elusive glances falling on the young girl’s figure.
Among these Black Shadows was a man with a scarred face, showing ferocity.
"Why did you only just arrive?"
Someone among the Black Shadows asked impatiently.
"Got held up by something just now."
The scar-faced man, clutching his stomach, replied with a forced smile.
"Keep your men sharp and make sure they work efficiently," the Black Shadow said slowly, "If you don’t do well this time, next time I have such business, I won’t include you."
"Of course, of course," the scar-faced man replied hastily, "Our Loach Gang’s guys fear nothing, each one of them fights desperately without regard for their own lives."
"Good." The Black Shadow nodded and pointed towards a nearby alley, "Get your men to go there and pick up their weapons."
The scar-faced man looked over and noticed many people already in the alley, "Are there other gangs involved this time?"
"After all, they offer a high bounty, whoever does well gets the lion’s share of it,"
The Black Shadow said impatiently, waving his hand, and turning away, continuing to watch Vianne,
"F**k, relying on others’ power," the scar-faced man walked a few steps towards the alley, turned back to spit at the retreating shadow, and then continued forward, looking into the alley, "The Hyena Gang’s bunch of mad dogs are here too, f**k, this is really bad luck."
The Hyena Gang was a notoriously infamous gang nearby. They were known not for their strength, but for their madness.
Gangs also had their own set of rules. Even if gangs fought tooth and nail, they would not lightly attack members of rival gangs’ families. This was one reason why many people in Aston District were willing to join gangs, to trade their own danger for their families’ safety.
But the Hyena Gang didn’t follow these rules. When they absorbed other gangs, they would kidnap rival gang leaders’ family members as leverage, and they would even shoot innocent bystanders on the streets, a taboo that made the Hyena Gang an unwelcome presence in the entire Aston District.
The scar-faced man heard that some congressmen were preparing to pressure the police station to capture these lunatics.
While these gang members gathered, Vianne strolling slowly on the street felt her wristband vibrate slightly.
She excitedly raised her wristband and opened it.
It was a promotional text message.
The girl’s excitement gradually faded away.
Just as she was about to put away her wristband, a slight vibration began, followed by a new message popping up with just three words:
[Look to the right]
Vianne turned her head and what caught her eye was a wildly stylish black convertible.
"Get in."
He Ao’s hand was on the steering wheel as he tilted his head, signaling Vianne to get in the car.
"Wow, uncle, is this your car? So cool!"
Vianne excitedly looked at the car, wanting to get into the passenger seat, only to discover that there was already a slender briefcase placed there, "Uncle, it seems like I can’t get in..."
"Do you have a driver’s license?"
He Ao looked at her.
"Yes."
Vianne lightly nodded, not understanding why He Ao was asking this.
"You sit here."
He Ao glanced at her, picked up the briefcase from the passenger seat, then slowly stood up and moved to the passenger position.
"Am I driving?"
Vianne, looking at the now vacant driver’s seat, was a bit confused.
"Mhm."
He Ao grunted in response, not looking at Vianne, but placing the briefcase on the flat surface behind the seats and pressing down on the latches on both sides of the case.
Click—
With a crisp sound, the latches of the briefcase were released.
Seeing that He Ao had no intention of explaining, Vianne could only confusedly take the driver’s seat.
"Fasten your seatbelt."
He Ao slowly opened the briefcase, revealing complex metal parts tied down onto sponge.
"Oh, okay."
Vianne fastened her seatbelt, then she shuffled her feet and found that she couldn’t reach the throttle.
Then, while He Ao’s attention was focused on the case, she quietly moved the seat all the way forward and started the vehicle, "Uncle, what do we do next?"
"Drive, run."
He Ao undid the straps one by one and began to assemble the metal parts.
"Run?"
Vianne was a bit stunned.
This time He Ao didn’t speak but simply reached out and flicked the shift paddle beneath the steering wheel, then directly pushed the throttle through the central display.
The whole car surged forward in an instant.
"Ah!"
Vianne was pressed into the seat by the inertia, hands gripping the steering wheel tightly.
Bang bang bang—
Countless bullets hit the spot where they had parked, burying themselves in the cement.
"Get in the car quickly, don’t let them get away."
A few shouts came from afar, followed by gang members, fully armed, piling one after another into several cars.
The roaring of engines began in succession, coming after them.
Of course, He Ao could hear these sounds, but Vianne could not. He turned to look at the girl beside him, whose hat had been blown off, silver hair flying wildly. Vianne, with the help of the auxiliary driving system, was gradually getting the car under control.
"Not bad driving skills."
He Ao praised her.
"Hehe."
Vianne giggled.
Then, amid the giggling, He Ao pressed the car key that had already been fitted into the partition.
"Please speak."
The gentle mechanical female voice echoed inside the car.
"Switch to full manual operation," He Ao continued assembling the mechanical parts from the case, "change to racing mode."
"Switching to full manual operation for you."
"Switch successful."
"Switching to racing mode for you."
"Switch successful."
A tremendous roar from the engine echoed through the streets.
Vianne only felt the vehicle beneath her instantly transform from a docile pony into a wild cheetah. Her hands pressed on the steering wheel, her expression somewhat panicked,
"Uncle, no please!!!"
