Chapter 1160: Chapter 1160: Betrayal? (Two more Chapters for monthly votes)
"I’ve already sent a Mechanical Camp over there,"
Owai said with a smile, "The security forces of the two big consortia are no real armies. They’re fine with fighting when they have the upper hand, but against a regular army, they stand no chance. However, the defenses of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Building need to be good enough to prevent those cornered dogs from jumping over the wall and breaking in."
"Hopefully they won’t try to break into the building."
He Ao shrugged.
——
Outside the Federal Bureau of Investigation Building
"How the hell did the City Defense Army bastards show up here?"
The middle-aged man stood on the platform, watching the densely packed coming armored troops through the streets, and bellowed angrily.
"Boss, the City Defense Army says we’re suspected of assassinating the Mayor and they want us to surrender,"
the young man by his side hurriedly said.
"Damn it, which eye of theirs saw me trying to assassinate the Mayor?"
The middle-aged man spat, "Owai, that son of a bitch, is just a dog we raised, and now he dares to bark at his master? Seems like he forgets the time when he was wagging his tail at us."
"Boss,"
the young man said cautiously, "should we surrender then?"
"Surrender?"
The middle-aged man raised his eyebrows, and angrily tapped the young man’s head beside him, "What are you dreaming of? We have two big Mercenary Corps right outside. The fall of the city is just a matter of time. Does Owai, this frisky cur, dare to fire at us? Does he have a death wish?"
He grabbed the walkie-talkie on his chest, and shouted loudly, "First to third squads, rotate the electromagnetic cannons, aim at the tank up front, goddammit, show these bastards a little color."
As his words fell, the three small electromagnetic cannons in the front row started to turn, adjusting their muzzles, targeting the armored tanks coming up the street.
Brilliant light pooled in their muzzles.
Boom——
The intense sound suddenly exploded on the street.
The quiet earth shook violently.
The middle-aged man standing on the platform staggered as before his field of view, the very front electromagnetic cannon, which hadn’t fully adjusted its barrel, was penetrated by an artillery shell from above, and blown to smithereens.
At the end of the street, an armored vehicle that had swiftly arrived was turning its slightly smoky barrel, preparing for the next strike.
"Son of a bitch, son of a bitch, they really dared to fire at us!"
The middle-aged man angrily raised his hand, "Counterattack! Give me a fierce counterattack!"
However, before his words were fully spoken, the dense artillery shells came pouring down from the sky.
Boom boom boom——
With the fire and intense explosions, the neatly lined electromagnetic cannons hadn’t had the chance to fire and were blown into fragments.
The middle-aged man on the platform still wanted to say something, but the young man beside him immediately grabbed him and leaped off the platform.
Boom——
An artillery shell hit the platform where they had just been standing, completely blowing it to smithereens.
The dreadful heat wave blew the two men in mid-air away, tumbling to the ground along with the splashing cement and stone fragments.
The young man embraced the middle-aged man, absorbing most of the impact, then staggered to help the middle-aged man up.
The dense artillery fire had paused temporarily, and now the square in front of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Building, which had been covered with security forces’ electromagnetic guns, was left with smoke and dust as thick as fog.
The middle-aged man looked back at the dense fog in confusion; the defense he had taken so long to set up had been destroyed by a volley from the opposite side.
In the distant haze, vague massive shapes stirred, signaling the rapid approach of armored tanks.
"Boss, this place isn’t fit for defense, it’s too open,"
the young man supporting him said, "a barrage of shells from the enemy would level it in no time. They are the regular army, with far better equipment than us—we can’t beat them."
"Is there anywhere nearby suitable for defense then?"
The middle-aged man regained his composure, then lifted his head and saw the imposing building in front of him, becoming excited and shouting, "This building, let’s go into this building. We’ll kill all the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s people inside, and then we’ll hold this building for defense."
Upon hearing his words, the young man opened his mouth as if to say something, but the middle-aged man had already grabbed the walkie-talkie.
He adjusted the channel and yelled, "All units, move into the Federal Bureau of Investigation Building and hold it for defense! Hold it for defense! If you encounter anyone from the Federal Bureau of Investigation inside, kill them on sight!"
Then he let go of the young man’s arm, pulled out a gun from his waist, and loudly said, "Move, let’s go inside."
The young man glanced at him and, in the end, still supported him and headed toward the building.
Soon, they reached the inner side of the building, with a continuous stream of security force personnel converging behind them.
The lobby on the first floor of the Federal Bureau of Investigation was deserted, the only presence being the densely packed metal gates that sealed the routes to the upper floors.
The middle-aged man released the young man, holding his gun, looked around the building, and sneered, "I thought the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s cowards would be braver, but they just went and hid."
He turned around to the security members behind him and shouted, "This is the Federal Bureau of Investigation Building. The City Defense Army wouldn’t dare bomb it easily. They will come in for close combat with us. Everyone, move in, find hiding spots, and ambush the incoming City Defense Army."
He waved his hand, "A few of you, follow me; there’s definitely a way up. We’re going to give those Federal Bureau of Investigation bastards a ’surprise’."
He wasn’t truly reckless; he knew well that Owai didn’t have the guts to offend the Federal Bureau of Investigation and wouldn’t dare to shell the building, making it now a safe haven.
A few security guards stepped out and followed the middle-aged man into the interior of the lobby.
And the young man who had just accompanied the middle-aged man followed behind.
He lifted his head to look at the spacious and clean lobby.
The furniture inside the lobby seemed to have been moved away, providing a clear field of view that allowed one to see the various decorations, statues, and paintings on the walls.
Bright sunlight poured into the hall from around, making the entire hall appear bright and warm.
However, this warm sunlight did not comfort the young man, who followed at the end, carefully and nervously scanning every corner of the hall.
Ever since he entered the hall, he felt as if he was being covertly observed by some invisible and dangerous gaze.
This covert observation felt like countless fine needles hovering over his back, ready to pierce into his body at any moment, causing his muscles to tense subconsciously.
But when he looked around, he saw no observers or surveillance cameras.
He could only cautiously follow the team forward.
What he didn’t notice was, behind him, the eyes of a deer head statue hanging on the wall slowly turned, revealing dark glass pupils that gazed upon them.
Meanwhile, in the director’s office at the top of the building.
The shut-off monitor suddenly lit up, and red squares framed within the screen appeared.

Federal Bureau of Investigation Building · Sealed Area
In the narrow isolation room, the elderly man in plain clothes lifted his head and glanced at the wall.
In the faint sense, he seemed to feel the slight vibration of the walls and the indistinct booming of explosions.
He looked up, gazed at the camera in the room, and shouted, "Is anyone there?!"
"What happened?!"
"Suote?! Hel?!"
He stood up, walked over to the camera, and yelled loudly.
"Is anyone there?!"
After confirming that he received no response, he stepped on a stool, raised his hand, and reached to grab the camera, attempting to twist its position.
Then he found that the surface of the camera was covered with a very thin but especially hard transparent glass cover.
He turned it a few times, his palm slipped, and it didn’t move.
He stepped off the stool, grabbed the stool, and smashed it toward the camera, to no avail.
He glanced around the room and eventually gave up on dealing with the camera, instead walking to the door and began to violently kick and pull at it.
But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t shake the door in the slightest.
Just then, accompanied by a ’click--’ sound like that of a locking cylinder turning, the entire door swung open with a bang.
The Elderly didn’t realize it for a moment, his hands pulled on nothing, and he stumbled backward through the door.
At that moment, a hand holding a Gauss Pistol reached in from outside the door and aimed at the camera in the corner of the wall.
Bang—
Accompanied by a light sound, the camera wrapped in hard glass exploded violently.
The Elderly on the ground was startled and asked in a trembling voice while looking outside, "What do you want to do?"
"Want to live?"
The figure outside put away the Gauss Pistol and adjusted the red hair on his head, "If you want to live, follow me."
"Why should I trust you?"
The Elderly’s expression darkened, and he said coldly.
"Whatever."
The red-haired man turned and walked down the corridor outside the door.
Watching the wide-open door, the Elderly was silent for a moment but eventually got up and swiftly stepped out.
He stood in the doorway and glanced to the right, noticing that the red-haired man had gone in that direction.
After a moment of consideration, he stepped out to the left.
"If I were you, I wouldn’t be walking that way."
The increasingly distant voice of the red-haired man came from the right side.
The Elderly glanced at the red-haired man and tentatively stepped to the left.
At that instant, a faint sound came from the ceiling overhead, as if something was about to descend from it.
Without any hesitation, the Elderly immediately drew back his foot and ran towards the direction of the red-haired man.
The sound from the ceiling slowly faded, and the thing that was about to descend was retracted.
"Yo, pretty smart,"
Hearing the footsteps behind him, the red-haired man smiled, "You would have been riddled with holes if you were any later."
"What was that?"
The Elderly asked hoarsely.
"Nothing much, just a hidden turret."
The red-haired man replied nonchalantly.
"A turret?"
The Elderly’s eyes widened in shock, "You guys installed turrets in the corridors of your own office building?"
"What’s so surprising about that,"
The red-haired man said casually, "The Federal Bureau of Investigation having some security needs is pretty normal, right? Look, it just came in handy, didn’t it?"
The Elderly’s complexion fluctuated, and faintly, the sound of rumbling could be heard from outside again.
Eventually, he lowered his head and asked hoarsely, "What’s happening outside?"
"The City Defense Army has dispatched an armored Mechanical Camp to exterminate your security forces. Right now, there’s a fierce battle going on outside. Your security forces can’t win; some have run into this building and are trying to open the channels to get upstairs."
The red-haired man explained casually.
"Wait a minute?"
The Elderly paused, "The City Defense Army? The City Defense Army is attacking the security forces outside? Owai dares to attack the security forces? What about Lokte? What is he doing? Can he allow Owai to send troops into the city? What’s the date today?"
Hadn’t he just stayed here for one night? How did things outside change so drastically?
"The 30th, Sunday. You’ve just stayed for one night; you haven’t lost your memory,"
The red-haired man shook his head, "As for Lokte, Lokte is dead."
"Lokte is dead?!"
The Elderly’s eyes widened again.
"There’s a lot you don’t know."
The red-haired man stopped in front of the elevator, lit up the button, and looking at the Elderly said, "Don’t wander off, or I won’t care if you get shot to pieces."
"Aren’t you supposed to save me?"
The Elderly lowered his head, "Why aren’t you responsible for my safety?"
"It’s not just you locked up in here,"
The red-haired man sneered, "If you die, you die."
The Elderly went silent, glancing at the rapidly ascending elevator, "Are you from the Federal Bureau of Investigation? Why do you betray Suote? I don’t even know your name?"
"Borek,"
Borek glanced at the arriving elevator and with a slight smile, said as he faced the open elevator doors, "You sure have a lot of questions. If you want to live, just come along, Mr. Weiken."
Without waiting for Weiken’s response, he entered the elevator.
Weiken was silent for a moment and then followed towards the elevator.
On the other side of the corridor, directly facing the direction of the elevator, a blonde girl in a painting slowly turned her bright eyes, watching the two men entering the elevator.
