Chapter 1117: Chapter 1117: Betrayal and Chaos (Seeking Monthly Pass)

"Interesting fellow, you’re not dead yet?"

Feeling resistance at the tip of the blade, a low chuckle came from behind him.

Amidst the pervasive sound of gunfire, He Ao furrowed his brow slightly.

He could feel that the power that was once abundant within this body had fallen into a kind of sluggishness and silence, as if some invisible force was obstructing the flow of his Qi, rendering him nearly incapable of harnessing any strength.

’Breath of Venus’?

No, it must be a similar kind of ’Transcendent Poison,’ and the dose is large, so large that it almost completely silenced the Talent Sequences within him.

In that instant, He Ao searched through the most recent memories of this body’s mind.

There were no scenes related to ’poisoning.’

Was the poison administered without his knowledge?

He hadn’t stayed in any enclosed spaces that day, nor had anyone brought anything close to his nose, so it wasn’t an inhaled poison.

Swallowed?

After ’Suote’ left Minte City, he had only had one meal, the lunch at noon?

He Ao raised his head and looked around.

Those standing at the edge of his field of view, Minte City’s Federal Bureau of Investigation ’agents’ who had come with him to investigate the Evil God incident, were now turning their cannons around, aiming at him.

The micro electromagnetic guns shimmered with light, firing at him from a close distance.

Betrayal, indeed.

This was a trap set for ’Suote’ from the beginning.

He Ao took a slight breath and activated Super Memory.

The immense power of Super Memory spread throughout his body, but soon the special Transcendent Poison began to take effect on the power of Super Memory, suppressing part of its strength.

The dose of the poison was indeed large and effective even against a Grade B Transcendent.

However, it was clear that they had not prepared a dose sufficient to suppress the power of a Grade B, possibly because too large a dose might raise Suote’s suspicions, or perhaps they felt it was unnecessary, after all, Suote was in reality only a Grade C.

No matter how veteran a Grade C is, a C is still a C.

This meant that the poison could not suppress the full strength of Super Memory.

He Ao estimated that he could still access just under a thousand points of Physical fitness.

The one behind him seemed to be a physically-oriented Transcendent, with strength around Grade C level, the base physical fitness of a fleshly C Grade being around five to six hundred points.

But as Chaotic Believers of Grade C often engage in Sacrifices, they may call for a Divine Descent, which could provide a short-term boost, and then he might temporarily achieve over a thousand points of Physical fitness.

In such situations, Suote would typically rely on kite-flying tactics with teammates, but obviously, there was no ’opportunity’ for kite-flying now.

Those who were once ’Suote’s’ teammates now stood opposed to him.

Instead, it was He Ao who might become the ’kite,’ and if he were to delay too long with this guy behind him, his body might not withstand the electromagnetic cannon fire from ’teammates’ and the shelling from the Chaotic Believers.

Pff—

The figure behind him once again tugged slightly on the knife blade, He Ao’s hand holding the tip relaxed as if he had lost his strength, accompanied by the soft sound of barbs tearing through flesh.

The sneer from behind gradually grew louder.

And the electromagnetic cannon shells and fire-trailing rockets were nearly landing on He Ao.

He Ao took a deep breath, tensed his legs, and suddenly moved backward.

The man pulling the knife backward had not anticipated this, and the sharp blade plunged back into He Ao’s body, the handle pressing against his back.

His body was struck by He Ao, propelling him backward, dodging the approaching shells.

As his hand followed the impact of He Ao’s retreat, his grip loosened, releasing the Slaughter Knife.

But before he could react, He Ao had already turned around.

This Slaughter Knife was much longer than a normal one; even after it had pierced into He Ao’s body, a large part of the blade tip still protruded from his chest.

With his right hand, He Ao reached backwards to grip the knife handle that had stabbed in from his back and, looking at the man before him without hesitation, he stood up and propelled himself forward, lunging at the man with great force.

In that instant, a crimson hue spread across the man’s body, as if attempting to invoke a divine Grace.

But before he could even cry out his prayer, the sharp blade that jutted out of He Ao’s chest also pierced through his own, hitting the energy focal point at his heart.

His body stiffened, his mouth opened, but before he could speak, he was silenced.

He Ao’s hand that extended behind kept holding onto the knife handle, feeling around on it.

He vaguely remembered that when the knife first pierced through ’Suote’s’ chest, it did not have those barbs on it.

Soon, he found a switch and lightly flicked it.

Szzzt—

The barbs embedded in the flesh retracted naturally as he flicked the switch, ripping open his flesh in layers.

Clenching his teeth, He Ao endured the intense pain and completely turned the switch to the end, causing the barbs to fully retract.

Then he exerted a bit of force and with a twist of the knife handle, the slender Slaughter Knife flew out backward, pulled out from inside him.

The flying Slaughter Knife flipped in the air and embedded itself into the ground.

He Ao turned around and looked down at the bloodstained Slaughter Knife that had fallen to the ground.

This was the first time he saw the whole appearance of the knife; it was generally shaped like a pig-killing knife but was much longer and slender overall, about forty or fifty centimeters in length, resembling a thin, curved saber more.

Boom—

Intense gunfire erupted around He Ao, reflecting flickering flames off the blood-soaked blade.

More suited for killing humans than pigs, it seemed.

"Cough—"

Standing amidst the thick gunfire, He Ao coughed violently, spitting out a mouthful of fresh blood.

Then he lifted his head, looking at the figures with Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Olive Shield Badges pointing their gun barrels at him, he took a step forward and grasped the handle of the knife that was stuck in the ground.

In the next second, his body disappeared abruptly, passing through the surging flames like an illusion.

The man at the front holding the electromagnetic gun took aim at He Ao and immediately pulled the trigger.

But almost in the blink of an eye, as if his vision flickered, the sharp blade cut through the barrel of his electromagnetic gun, and with the shiny metal cross-section reflecting the firelight, his head soared into the sky and fell into the flames.

Those Federal Bureau of Investigation ’agents’ instantly reacted, swinging their gun barrels around.

At the same time, figures emerged from the surrounding flames, their bodies covered in fine red lines as if the flames had spread onto their bodies.

These were members of a certain sect of the Church of Chaos that ’Suote’ was currently ’investigating’.

He Ao’s gaze swept forward.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were now standing together with the crazed believers of the Evil God, jointly confronting the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

"Are you really choosing to work with the Evil God?"

His gaze lowered, his eyes settled on the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents closer to him, his voice was hoarse.

’Suote’ was out mainly to collect clues, so he only brought a five-person elite squad.

Of course, these five individuals were all ’support’ provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Minte City.

"He’s been poisoned, just buying time. He doesn’t have the power to resist anymore."

The middle-aged man in the rear raised his hand without any hesitation and commanded, "Fire!"

Without any hesitation, the remaining Sanghe Federal Bureau of Investigation members lifted their portable electromagnetic guns, aiming at He Ao.

He Ao raised the Slaughter Knife in his hand, holding it backhand and bending at the waist.

In the next second, three blooms of fresh blood burst forth among the flames, and the cold blade touched the neck of that middle-aged man.

He looked at the middle-aged man and said in an icy tone, "Who told you to do this?"

The middle-aged man was the leader of this five-person squad and also the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Minte City, a D-level Transcendent.

He went the deepest when they started collecting information.

At first, he seemed to be leading the way, but now it looks like he was trying to stay as far away from ’Suote’ as possible.

"Suote, you have offended West Steel and Note Intelligence. Their Mercenary Corps will be here soon. Do you think you can defeat a fully armed army in the wilderness? Not to mention, you’re dragging along such a severe injury," the middle-aged man said with a smile, looking at He Ao, "You’re as good as dead. Stop struggling."

Almost the moment his words finished, the man leaped backward, flipping out a dagger from his hand, thrusting towards He Ao’s chest, while his body began to fade out of He Ao’s ’field of view’.

He Ao’s empty hand extended its forefinger and middle finger, pinching the thrown dagger, and with his other hand holding the Slaughter Knife, he made a forward swipe.

In front of the middle-aged man’s stunned gaze, his body reappeared in the firelight, only to have been split in two.

Assassin.

Not playing too well, being too ostentatious when using ’Stealth’.

"I understand now, thank you."

He Ao glanced at the middle-aged man’s gaping head and flicked his blood-stained knife lightly with a bent finger.

Accompanied by a vibrating "hum," the flowing blood splattered away, revealing the pristine metal blade beneath.

The knife was a good one, although not a Transcendent weapon, it had reached the level capable of killing a C-level.

Feeling the markers returning to his mind, He Ao raised his head, looking at the rushing Chaotic Believers.

The dense gunfire had stopped at some point, and these Chaotic Believers formed a semicircular encirclement, centering He Ao, yet they did not initiate an attack.

Behind He Ao was a towering cliff, and the semicircle had blocked all his paths forward.

He Ao, holding the knife blade, calmly gazed at each Believer.

He could feel a dangerous aura emerging from those Believers.

Bang—Bang—Bang—

Sounds of clashing chains echoed from the darkness.

A red-bearded giant over two meters tall, wielding a massive Chain Hammer, stepped out from the crowd. His skin was a strange shade of red. At this moment, he looked down with his gaze fixed on the battered He Ao, the corners of his mouth curling into some indescribable smile,

"I originally came to see what exactly your Federal Bureau of Investigation was up to, but I didn’t expect to catch such a good show," he said, looking at He Ao with a hoarse laugh,

"How does it feel, being betrayed by your comrades? My Chief Suote? A big shot from Ains, over the years you’ve killed many of my people and captured many Cult Members. I’ve wanted to kill you several times but never had the chance.

"Did you ever think you would end up on this wasteland, poisoned by your own Federal Bureau of Investigation comrades?"

"Golden Chain Hammer Carlo? Cough—"

He Ao coughed lightly, looking at the burly man before him, and said hoarsely with a laugh, "I thought you guys should indeed have a B-level guy backing you up, but I didn’t expect it to be you. Have you been promoted to B-level in these past few years?"

Golden Chain Hammer Carlo was a C-level ranked on the Federation’s wanted list. This fellow often appeared randomly in cities, killing for fun. After getting on the wanted list and being seriously hunted, he’d go slaughter caravans.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation had teamed up with nearby cities, sending several groups to capture him without success, instead suffering significant losses.

Only in the past few years did he somewhat concede.

Long before, ’Suote’ suspected him of being part of the Church of Chaos, but could never find traces of him and it wasn’t within his jurisdiction, so he didn’t investigate further.

"I owe it all to the Grace of the great Chaos, without the guidance of the great Chaos, I wouldn’t have reached this day," the burly man declared with a laugh, "Of course, I also have to thank you, you dogs of Order, for your wanted notices. Without so many people sent to me to kill, I wouldn’t have been able to complete my promotion Ceremony so easily."

"Dogs of Order, cough—" He Ao chewed on the term, coughing lightly, "Seems like you know quite a bit?"

"Every Believer of Chaos despises the dogs of Order. We deal with these hypocrites all the time,"

Carlo laughed heartily, "But looking at you now, were you abandoned by them? Otherwise, someone like you, a ’Heaven’s Proud Child,’ couldn’t possibly end up in such a state."

He sneered, "This is how these people are. When they need you, they’ll try every means to promote you. When they don’t, they’ll have someone else do the dirty work to get rid of you. And more often than not, they use us to take the fall for their dirty deeds, to satisfy their twisted arrogance,"

He squinted his eyes, looking at He Ao, "Someone like you, who had mingled to the core of their circle, even you got discarded? Doesn’t make much sense,"

Then he seemed to remember something, his eyes lighting up, "You ’betrayed’ the Order?"

"Cough—"

He Ao coughed lightly, "Perhaps that’s what they think."

Deep within ’Suote,’ he had never held any firm belief in the ’God of Order.’

He simply agreed with some of their principles before, and now, he no longer agrees.

He seldom participated in Order Church gatherings and never sought help from the Order Church. When he initially took the C-level Secret Medicine formula from the church, he paid a ’remuneration’ well in excess of the formula’s value.

Of course, the Order Church ’believed’ this was a ’donation.’

In fact, if he had found the ’evidence’ of the Order Church committing murder through sacrifice, he wouldn’t have hesitated to strike them down ruthlessly.

Only, those fellows might have really not done anything, or perhaps they were really good at hiding their tracks, never to be caught by him.

Of course, for those ’Believers,’ not being ’loyal’ enough may as well be ’betrayal.’

"It seems you don’t have much fondness for the Order. It’s unexpected that these arrogantly sanctimonious brutes can misjudge someone,"

Carlo laughed uncontrollably, looking at He Ao,

"So, are you going to convert to Chaos? You should understand what your ’enemies’ are like. It’s clear they won’t just prepare a plan—they might not stop even if you manage to escape from me; you’ll certainly die to one of their other schemes."

He raised his slightly reddened palm, reaching out towards He Ao, "Join us, and I will protect you."

"Sorry,"

He Ao, clutching the blade in his hand, struggled to stand upright, gazing at Carlo before him, "I don’t endorse ’Order,’ but I detest the boundless ’Chaos’ even more,"

In the decades that ’Suote’ pursued Chaotic Believers, he had seen too much bloodshed and atrocity.

Other Evil God followers kill for at least some semblance of a reason.

Chaotic Believers kill on a whim. They seek pleasure in murder and Chaos, with each incident they cause affecting at least dozens to hundreds of people, sparing no one from infants to the Elderly.

He Ao looked at Carlo, continuing calmly, "Most of the time, I believe that the Chaotic Believers who are dead, are the good ones."

"Touché,"

Carlo grinned, "You’re the first C-level who knows what I’m about and still dares to talk to me like this. I hope it isn’t just hot-blooded courage talking."

He lifted the Chain Hammer in his hand, "Powerful Transcendent poisons don’t last long. You’ve delayed enough for the poison in your system to weaken. Let’s see how well you’ve recovered,"

With a vicious smile, he charged instantly, "I hope you can make my butchery a bit more enjoyable. It’s been a while since I’ve seen someone who does."

He Ao tightened his grip on the blade in his hand, feeling the strength gradually returning inside his body.

Clearly, Carlo had no intention of letting him delay any longer.

He had anticipated this situation.

Even in the face of a C-level suffering from poison, Carlo, a Transcendent who has walked out from between life and death, would not be careless.

He Ao watched the rapidly approaching figure.

Unlike the B-levels he had come into contact with in previous Copy Worlds, who relied on the Divine Grace of Evil Gods, Carlo was a real B-level closely related to killing and fighting. Although he had been promoted not long ago, he was a true B-level.

At the same time, he was an Evil God follower.

Undeniably, those ’people behind the scenes’ indeed designed a mortal ’trap’ for ’Suote.’

Boom—

The massive Chain Hammer smashed into the ground, scattering countless fragments of stone.
