[Precautionary Notes:

The environment where 005 is located must be a clean and tidy spacious space, and all individuals should be in the same open area which cannot contain any living beings other than the research staff.

Upon entering the research area, everyone should wear the specific Mind Badge.

All researchers of 005 should maintain the habit of keeping a diary and check it weekly on the same day; discrepancies between the diary and one’s memory must be reported promptly.

The environment where 005 is located should be deep underground, separated from the outside by thick layers of rammed earth and concrete, with multiple isolation layers in the channels leading to the outside world.

All personnel who have entered the research area must provide detailed behavioral data one month prior to entering, and upon leaving, they must be observed for at least one month for mental evaluation and compared with this data, and any errors or deviations must be reported immediately.

All research personnel, after leaving the research area, must undergo contamination isolation and memory erasure procedures.

Durinig the research process of 005, all findings must be based on documented evidence; subjective narratives from anyone who has come into contact with 005 are not reliable.

The research area is a signal-free zone, and all researchers of 005 must not initiate contact with the outside world without permission]

[Item Background:

was discovered beneath the Antarctic ice sheet.

During the last period of the great catastrophe, the city-state kingdom of the Feathered Serpent Kingdom, which governed the southern part of the Fourth District, was keen to explore Antarctica.

Their Transcendent expedition team conducting scientific research in Antarctica found that creatures living on the fringe of the continent were exhibiting collective behaviour of digging into the ice near the pole.

The leader of this scientific expedition concluded that there must be a powerful Extraordinary Item below the ice, and after reporting to superiors, they excavated the ice sheet.

Eventually, the team discovered 005 five kilometers below the ice at the pole.

The appearance of 005 is that of an antique purple wooden spinning wheel, composed of a wooden spinning wheel and a spindle; from afar, it resembles fine jade, yet up close one can discern the obvious details of its wooden construction.

After unearthing 005, the scientific team brought it back to the capital of the Feathered Serpent Kingdom.

Thereafter, the Feathered Serpent Kingdom revered 005 as a Divine Being and began to wage frequent wars against others, seeking to conquer other city-states at any cost.

This led to the ultimate destruction of the Feathered Serpent Kingdom; afterwards, 005 passed into the hands of several different city-state regimes.

Each of these regimes and their populations exhibited abrupt changes in character after obtaining 005, and for various reasons, their eventual downfall ensued.

Ultimately, 005 made its way to the First District and was acquired by His Excellency *¥% and sealed by *@#.]

[Experiment Record 1:

has the ability to affect all life forms with self-awareness or memory, including humans, and it can alter the personality of a life form by modifying its memory.

Furthermore, it tends towards significantly altering personalities; docile life forms will quickly become aggressive under 005’s influence, and those already aggressive become distorted.

Eventually, all life forms influenced by 005 will be led to self-annihilation.]

[Experiment Record 2:

Experiments have revealed that 005’s memory modification capability is effective on artificial intelligence as well; AI that has been modified will automatically generate new log files and overwrite their own log files.

However, records left by ordinary computers without intelligence and paper documents are not altered by 005.]

Artificial Intelligence, is it also classified as a life form with memory by 005’s ’abilities’?

Reflecting on this entry, He Ao recalled the quantum computer he had brought back from the Central Control Room of the High Tower, and the artificial intelligence 8753 within it.

It was clear that 8753 was aware of 005’s existence, but when He Ao questioned it, 8753 self-destructed right after beginning its response.

It must not have known that it would ’self-destruct’, otherwise with its self-preserving nature, it would not have initiated this subject matter.]

Has its ’memory’ also been tampered with by 005? And constructed into a program that would self-destruct when a certain keyword is mentioned?

And all this was done without its main consciousness being aware of it?

He Ao’s gaze continued downward,

[Experiment Record 3:

In the controlled environment supervised by *¥&, thorough documentations were made, and after a detailed analysis of 005’s abilities, it was discovered that 005 could modify the memories of anyone at will.

Once the target’s memory is modified, the memories of all other people related to the target would synchronously change as well.

In the experiment, 005 made the volunteer believe that they ate an orange in the morning, and correspondingly, all the researchers involved in the experiment acquired the memory of the volunteer having eaten an orange, without anyone finding it odd.

However, by accessing the related video and document records, it was found that the volunteer had actually eaten bread in the morning.]

Is this the reason everyone from the bar where Ruoke En once worked no longer recognizes him from the memories of Ruoke En?

It seems that the one who ’altered’ Ruoke En’s ’fate’ was indeed 005.

Altering one person’s memory, and then everything that this person ’newly remembers’ having done also gets synchronously modified in the memories of all related individuals?

He Ao continued flipping through, and the following section of the document was almost entirely gibberish. After turning several pages, a new experimental record appeared in He Ao’s field of view.

[Experiment Record 27:

······ (garbled text) ······ it indicates that 005 apparently possesses some form of intelligence, and harbours disdain for any living being, reveling in chaos, destruction, and slaughter.]

The following records were nearly without complete text, mostly garbled with an occasional coherent sentence,

[Experiment Record 30:

Through various control experiments ······ (garbled text) ······ 005 shows ’disgust’ towards ······ (garbled text) ······ and does not take the initiative to change the fate of the involved parties, and thus it can be used for making badges.]

The ’Mind Badge’ mentioned in the precautions?

[Experiment Record 31:

Under the supervision of %&*, ······ (garbled text) ······ when performing ··· (garbled text) ··· on 005, there is evidence to suggest ······ (garbled text) ······ after having their memories modified by 005 ······ (garbled text) ······ their mystical nature will change ······ (garbled text) ······ and their lives will be reshaped.

······ (garbled text) ······ It is believed that what 005 modifies is not just memory but ’fate,’ the external manifestation of which appears as changes in memory.

······ (garbled text) ······ 005’s name ······ (garbled text) ······ has been referred to as the Fate Spinning Wheel.]

Thud—

At the moment he read this, He Ao’s mind seemed to echo with a ’light sound’ once again.

The vague sound gradually became clearer, arising from the depths of He Ao’s memory, traversing through the endless memories, resonating in He Ao’s ears, echoing in He Ao’s mind.

That vague door began to take shape behind He Ao, emanating an inexplicable allure, tempting He Ao to turn around and open it.

An invisible force was trying to spread across He Ao’s body.

······

Meanwhile, far in the Main World, He Ao himself looked up, gazing at the sky outside the window.

A mystical connection was spreading towards him along the paths of his memories.

An orange-grey radiance flickered in his eyes, an eye set within an inverted triangle emerged from the void.

Deconstruction!

The invisible force was tampering with the very foundation of the world, tearing apart that connection.

Fate···

He Ao himself leaned back into the sofa, head bowed, deep in thought.

······

Meanwhile, in the ruins, He Ao’s projected body continued flipping through the records below.

Almost no useful information followed; all the data He Ao could see was corrupted.

This document ends here.

He Ao turned his head back, returned to the previous diary interface, and clicked all clickable spots again, but there was no reaction anymore.

Perhaps the ’person’ who left these records only wanted him to see this much.

After a brief moment of contemplation, he withdrew his hand, his gaze shifting forward.

As his field of view moved away, the equipment in front of him once again sank into the shadows.

He reassessed the surrounding shadows.

This shadow, could it be the power left by 003 that the diary’s writer mentioned?

The sealed items in the ruins seemed to be more powerful the smaller their number.

That apparatus was in the central part of the entire area; if this research facility was centrally distributed, then the status of the user of that apparatus should not be low.

This could be deduced from his ’diary’.

His teacher was attempting to progress through God Refining and Returning to the Void; this was the first time He Ao encountered the term ’God Refining and Returning to the Void’.

The way for him to understand the realms of Martial Arts was straightforward; he would level up, and the system’s Personal Attributes interface would appear, then he would know.

Of course, he couldn’t see what the next level was if he hadn’t leveled up.

And the annotations toward the end of that small book on Martial Arts became more arcane; with his current language proficiency in the First District, it was still very difficult to read.

Moreover, the page in that book about the next realm after Qi Refinement and Spirit Transformation seemed to be missing as well.

However, the good news was that the naming standard for Martial Arts realms was very straightforward; Essence Refinement and Qi Transformation was followed by Qi Refinement and Spirit Transformation, so God Refining and Returning to the Void was probably the next realm following Qi Refinement and Spirit Transformation.

He Ao’s Martial Arts was currently at the stage of ’Qi Refinement and Spirit Transformation’ and had reached Tier B.

That being said, the next stage, God Refining and Returning to the Void, was likely the Martial Arts realm corresponding to the Angel Tier.

Having a teacher close to being an Angel, the owner of the diary must also have considerable abilities.

And from the data on 005, researchers were not permitted to communicate freely with the outside world, but the owner of the diary had access to a lot of external information, which suggests that their position within the Research Institute was probably not low.

He likely was one of the core researchers of this institute.

He Ao walked past the area where the control panel was located, entering the very center of the control panel area.

A silver circular platform, about two meters above the ground with a diameter of three meters, appeared in He Ao’s field of view.

There seemed to have been a transparent cover on the platform, which was now shattered, with twenty to thirty centimeters thick fragments scattered across the platform.

The entire platform was empty; bodies were scattered around the platform.

Their expressions varied; some showed signs of struggle, others appeared resigned, but most had taken their own lives.

He Ao carefully inspected these corpses, looking beside their bodies to see if he could find anything.

The data just now said that unintelligent mechanical equipment and paper documents were not affected by 005.

Thus, following the principle of data backup, it was highly likely that there were paper backups of the information on 005.

However, after searching around, He Ao found nothing.

He tried to turn over the bodies; those ’plump and vivid’ corpses would rapidly decay and dry out when he lifted them up and outside of the shadow area. But when he put them back, they would quickly return to their plump state.

In the end, after searching through all the corpses surrounding the platform, He Ao found no paper documents.

His gaze swept over the hall enveloped in darkness.

The time left for the projection wasn’t much, and he didn’t have the time to search the entire hall.

Moreover, as he walked this way just now, besides the damaged equipment, he didn’t see any paper documents.

Decayed?

The power of the Shadow can preserve flesh and metal, but not paper.

Or...

He Ao lowered his head, looking at the shattered glass dome.

Destroyed?

Now it seems that what this Research Institute was studying, 005, is very likely the thing sealed below the High Tower.

It appears that the ’seal’ mentioned in that journal ultimately succeeded.

After 005 went completely out of control, the people from the Federation arrived here, and although they couldn’t save these researchers, they managed to seal 005?

So there are no paper documents around, did they take all the paper documents with them or ’destroyed’ them?

Then why not deal with those devices? Because of the power of 003? The devices are hard to destroy?

But the documents in those devices have also all turned into gibberish, and on the way here, except for just now, there seemed to be no more devices that were still usable.

If that’s true, then are these documents really gone?

Was the researcher who wrote the journal finally rescued? Or did he die around that central round platform?

Those people didn’t look much like high-level Martial Artists.

With his head lowered, He Ao saw a corpse with flesh still intact naturally emerge from the Shadow.

The moment he saw that corpse, He Ao was startled.

Then he immediately turned his head back, his figure flickered a few times, and he reappeared at the elevator entrance, between piles of bones and the spreading power of the Curse.

He lowered his head, looking at the withered corpse in a lab coat that first fell beside him.

He slowly squatted down, ignoring the Curse power trying to spread into his body, reached out, and touched the corpse.

The energy circuits inside this corpse seemed unobstructed, and even though it had been dead for a long time, he could still feel a slight oppressive force upon approach, but it seemed to have no traces of being altered by Talent Sequences.

He Ao turned over the corpse.

A bloodstained document held against the chest of the Dry Corpse appeared in He Ao’s field of view.

He Ao picked up the document.

The first half of the document was soaked through with blackened blood crusts, stuck together and the writing was no longer clear, only the latter half remained intact.

However, as He Ao lifted the document up, it visibly decayed at a speed visible to the naked eye.

The power of Shadow was also here, ’preserving’ these ’pasts.’

He Ao placed the document on the ground, and the document rapidly returned to its original state. He opened it and read the parts that were legible.

[Encrypted Experimental Record 2:

... (bloodstain) ... The experiment proves that 005 inherently possesses the instinct to break free, and anyone who knows 005’s name or its aliases or its existence, or has come into contact with it, has any memory related to 005.

They might be touched by the power of 005, their fate influenced by it.]

Hmm, the ability is quite eerie and sounds intimidating.

But, Angel Tier.

There’s still a bit of a gap compared to my good friends.
