Chapter 233: Chapter 233: So, Let’s Get a Divorce
"Punish me?" Que Zelian looked puzzled.
He braced one hand against the bed, about to rise, only for Xiao Jinsheng to press her palm against his chest and shove him back down.
Que Zelian lay flat on the bed, feeling the mattress sink beneath him—it was Xiao Jinsheng stepping onto the bed, walking across the soft bedding.
Xiao Jinsheng lowered her gaze to look at him, noticing he still intended to sit up. She raised her leg and pressed her foot down on his abdomen, her brows arching slightly. "I think you need to understand your place."
"In this household, I am the real master."
"As the Beast Husband, you’ve conspired with others to hide things from the Female Master."
"Do you think that’s right?"
"I didn’t hide anything from you," Que Zelian sighed and said.
Yet when she saw his innocent expression as he looked at her, Xiao Jinsheng was so angry she grit her teeth.
Very well. Still trying to play innocent at a time like this?
Fine, then don’t blame her for being ruthless.
Xiao Jinsheng shifted her foot downward, her move drawing a startled look from Que Zelian. Smirking provocatively, she pressed her bare foot down.
"Jinx..." Que Zelian’s face flushed crimson, his body clearly reacting in unusual ways.
He also realized Xiao Jinsheng was deliberately making things difficult for him.
Her stepping on him was something he could endure.
But now she was grinding...
Que Zelian’s emotions were stirred, and he struggled to restrain himself, attempting to sit up.
But mist-like clouds coiled around his limbs, binding him firmly in place.
Xiao Jinsheng idly glanced down, admiring her handiwork with satisfaction.
She finally removed her foot, sitting down at the edge of the bed.
Propping one hand beside Que Zelian’s head, she leaned in and placed a soft kiss on his lips.
At the same time, she released the mist that had restrained him.
Just as Que Zelian regained his mobility, he pressed a hand against her lower back and pulled her into his embrace.
Before he could savor the moment, Xiao Jinsheng hungrily bit down on his lip.
Her fingers trailed down his loosened collar, lightly grazing the Cloud Bird Totem emblazoned on his right collarbone.
"Do you like it?" Xiao Jinsheng asked, looking down at him.
"Jinx," Que Zelian’s voice was soft and lingering, his hand resting on her waist, reluctant to let go.
For days now during their cold war.
This was the first time Xiao Jinsheng was willing to approach him.
No matter the reason.
All he wanted was to hold her close right now.
Even if it was just for a moment.
The thought had barely crossed his mind.
When Xiao Jinsheng seemed to hear his unspoken wish.
Her palm deliberately pressed against his hand.
But just as Que Zelian’s heart leapt with hope, Xiao Jinsheng’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile. Without mercy, she pried his hand off her body.
"I heard it."
"Your heart is longing for me."
"But I don’t appreciate being lied to," Xiao Jinsheng said icily as she stepped off the bed, raising her hand with a casual wave.
The mist slipped through Que Zelian’s belt and gave it a slight snap, instantly severing it.
Her hand slipped inside his clothing, and her fingertips lightly pressed against the heated, firm planes of his abdomen. With an amused grin, she added, "If you can’t be honest, then it seems there’s no need for this to continue. Don’t you think so?"
With that, she swiftly withdrew her hand and, ignoring the man she had left stirred and frustrated on the bed, turned on her heel and walked out without a second glance.
Que Zelian broke free from the mist, sitting upright, but all that greeted him was the sound of the door shutting firmly behind Xiao Jinsheng’s departure.
He pulled a thin blanket from the side, draping it over his legs, his fingers curling into fists as he panted softly.
His ears glowed red—whether from their color or something else was uncertain.
Yet the heat coursing through his body made him unbearably uncomfortable. He reached up and tugged at his collar, exposing more of his heaving chest.
He had anticipated Xiao Jinsheng’s anger and her schemes to deal with him.
But never had he imagined Xiao Jinsheng would devise such an absurd method.
Her few teasing gestures had left her satisfied.
But now Que Zelian sat on the bed, hesitant to leave even after a long while.
Xiao Jinsheng had always held grudges.
If she could settle scores immediately, she would.
And if not, she’d keep track and strike at the first opportunity.
Initially, her intended target this time was Huaiqing.
But who would have guessed Que Zelian would present himself so conveniently?
Dealing with one was as good as dealing with two; both were effortless.
Now, happily descending the stairs, she encountered none other than Huaiqing coming up.
Xiao Jinsheng lifted her leg and planted her foot against the wall, halting Huaiqing’s ascent.
"No passage this way," Xiao Jinsheng declared arrogantly.
Huaiqing chuckled lightly. "I was just coming upstairs to call you for breakfast."
Since Xiao Jinsheng was already here,
Going any further upstairs seemed unnecessary.
Her attempt to block the way was irrelevant.
Turning to head back down, Huaiqing was abruptly grabbed by Xiao Jinsheng’s wrist. "Wait a moment."
Keeping him from descending, she maneuvered past him to the lower step.
Raising her leg again, she planted her foot on the wall,
Blocking his path downward this time, her chin lifting slightly. "No passage this way either."
"Fair enough," Huaiqing said with an earnest smile. "Tell me, Lady Xiao, how much toll must I pay to pass?"
"A secret." Xiao Jinsheng’s gaze sharpened. "Like the one about the prophecy you’ve been hiding from me. I want to hear you tell it yourself."
"Xiaoxiao, I truly haven’t kept any prophecy from you," Huaiqing sighed.
"Won’t admit it, huh? Then don’t even think about taking this route," Xiao Jinsheng replied shamelessly.
Huaiqing let out a soft laugh, leaning casually against the stair rail. He nodded with a hint of mirth. "This isn’t so bad. You’ve been avoiding me these past few days."
"Thank you, my Female Master, for giving me the chance to spend some time with you."
Xiao Jinsheng’s expression darkened.
She glared at Huaiqing, meeting his tender gaze fixed on her.
To her, his gaze was a deliberate challenge.
Huaiqing, as expected, had perfectly gauged her mindset.
He had spoken intentionally.
Xiao Jinsheng knew that to deal with Huaiqing, she would need to employ tactics even harsher than those she used on Que Zelian.
She lowered her leg from the wall and crooked a finger at Huaiqing. "Come closer. I have something important to tell you."
"Ready to talk to me now?" Huaiqing asked with a smile, stepping down a few stairs to bring himself level with her, his face even drawing nearer to listen attentively.
"I’ve decided," Xiao Jinsheng began, her tone deadly serious. "I’m divorcing you and unbinding all ties between us."
Huaiqing’s hand, which had been resting casually on the banister, suddenly slipped.
The mere sound of her words threw his mind into disarray, inducing an instinctive panic.
He struggled to maintain his composure, his expression dark as he looked at Xiao Jinsheng, forcing a weak smile. "Xiaoxiao, this... isn’t a very funny joke."
"You think I’m joking?" Xiao Jinsheng’s voice chilled. "But I’m completely serious."
"I detest Beast Husbands who make decisions on my behalf without considering my feelings or my opinions."
"So, let’s divorce." Xiao Jinsheng repeated with emphasis, her tone firm.
Huaiqing’s hand gripped the railing tightly, his turquoise eyes unable to mask their panic.
Even though he suspected Xiao Jinsheng’s words might have been meant to coerce him into revealing the prophecy he had kept hidden,
such words, for a couple who shared deep feelings,
whether a joke or a test,
were still deeply wounding.
Huaiqing suppressed the wave of panic roused by her declaration.
Unaware that his effort to shield his inner thoughts had faltered as his Bai Ze Bloodline defenses weakened under the strain.
While he worked to restore his composure, maintaining a forced smile, he said, "The stove in the kitchen is still on. I’ll just go check on it."
But as he turned to retreat, he heard a barely stifled, muffled sob from behind him.
At the same time, his unraveling defenses against mind-reading completely crumbled.
Alarmed, Huaiqing spun around, only to be slammed into by Xiao Jinsheng, who had rushed down the stairs into his arms.
She buried her face in his chest, her voice muffled by tears as she choked out, "How dare you make decisions for me?"
