Chapter 185: One Hundred Fifty Chapters: The Objective

Xu Yuan frowned, he knew very little about supernatural entities.

Be it in Cang Yuan or the records within the Prime Minister’s Mansion, there wasn’t much available.

Over tens of thousands of years, with seas turning to mulberry fields and the Imperial Dynasty undergoing uncountable separations and reunifications, many historical records had been turned to nothing but mirages due to wars and numerous other reasons.

It was probably for this reason that the records about supernatural entities within the Prime Minister’s Mansion were scant.

Of course, it was also possible that information on supernatural entities was classified under the top-tier "Alpha, Beta, Gamma" grades within the Prime Minister’s Mansion’s internal archives.

Such intelligence was beyond Xu Yuan’s authority to access at will, and without a special need, he naturally wouldn’t go to the trouble of sending a message to the Imperial Capital to apply through his father.

After combing through the sparse information in his mind, Xu Yuan looked at the Saint’s Remnant Soul beside him and asked in a low voice,

"Supernatural entities? Wasn’t it said that they have no intelligence?"

After the experience in the Qionghua Secret Realm, the Saint’s Remnant Soul seldom spoke in riddles anymore, and after staring at the short-haired elder for several breaths, it said softly,

"Supernatural entities do have intelligence, it’s the humans or Demonic Beasts that have been transformed by them that lack intelligence."

Xu Yuan raised his eyebrows.

The Saint’s Remnant Soul continued in a low voice,

"However, that’s not exactly right either. If the humans or Demonic Beasts who have been transformed have a profound level of cultivation, they can actually maintain their intelligence for a very long period; but in the end, they all turn into walking corpses. I had an old friend who was transformed by a supernatural entity and managed to hold on to his intelligence for more than ten years thanks to his cultivation before gradually losing it."

At this point, the Saint’s Remnant Soul sighed,

"But this is only superficial intelligence. Just like those possessed by specters, once humans are transformed by supernatural entities, they can no longer be called humans. Destruction, ruin, and assimilation of other species—these inherent traits of supernatural entities will completely destroy a person’s original character."

Xu Yuan quickly understood and said with a frown,

"You mean, those transformed human experts only retain their intelligence superficially, while their core has already turned into supernatural entities?"

When it came to this matter, the voice of the Saint’s Remnant Soul was somewhat complex,

"Yes, even though they appear no different from before in terms of temperament, cultivation, or physique, their hearts have already been wholly turned into supernatural entities."

"Did it cause a lot of damage?" Xu Yuan could already imagine the things those transformed human experts hidden within humanity might do.

The Saint’s Remnant Soul shook its head with a leisurely tone,

"No, it didn’t cause much damage, and by seizing this opportunity, we actually turned the tables on the supernatural entities and killed many high-ranking ones."

"What?"

Xu Yuan raised an eyebrow, looking somewhat surprised.

Why didn’t this ancient story go as expected?

"There are always talented people coming from the great wilderness," the Saint’s Remnant Soul uttered, chuckling softly and shaking its head as it continued softly,

"Ever since the supernatural entities emerged, many people have been studying these creatures that sprouted from the wilderness."

Xu Yuan stared at the Saint’s Remnant Soul,

"People study such dangerous things? Aren’t they afraid of losing control?"

It was like in the apocalyptic movies from his previous life, where scientists researched all sorts of odd things, only to end up playing with fire and getting burned.

The Saint’s Remnant Soul glanced at Xu Yuan, its eyes calm,

"Losing control? As long as it brings benefits, there will always be people willing to do it, and we couldn’t afford to worry about much given the catastrophic situation during the great calamity."

"Indeed, some people’s motives aren’t pure, desiring the undying trait of supernatural entities for longevity and power, but others aim to discover these creatures’ weaknesses to save the people and the world.

"No matter the purpose or the process, the result was that some people figured out the characteristics of supernatural entities and exploited this information to deal the supernatural entities a severe blow."

Speaking of this,

The Saint’s Remnant Soul raised its hand pointing towards the short-haired elder across from it,

"This young man’s practiced Cultivation Technique is likely passed down from that time, and there were many research findings related to supernatural entities. Many powerful individuals created corresponding Cultivation Techniques through these discoveries.

"After all, Ghostification, despite representing destruction, does have many traits that humans yearn for.

"Undying bodies, immense strength, and even eternal life—ha, ha...."

Xu Yuan fell into a brief silence before suddenly asking out of the blue,

"So your will-spirit has lived this long because you’ve studied Ghostification, too?"

It was clear that Old Man Luo was also one of those who had studied Ghostification in the past.

In Cang Yuan,

if a player chose the grandfatherly path and practiced the cultivation technique provided by Old Man Luo, they could go to secret realms to slaughter demonic beasts, obtain a type of crystal stone from within them, and use this to level up swiftly.

There was no connection between these facts? Not even a ghost would believe that.

"Of course."

The Saint’s Remnant Soul cockily admitted, declaring as if it were the most natural thing,

"But the cultivation technique I’ve studied for ten thousand years is far superior to the half-baked one this lad practices. Not only do I not need to consume flesh and blood, but I also don’t have to worry about losing my sanity."

After listening carefully, Xu Yuan gestured toward the man with short hair who had been completely frozen into an ice statue, "Is this old man dead yet?"

Without the reinforcement of the Saint’s soul power, Xu Yuan reverted to being that inconsequential Seventh Grade nobody, unable to penetrate Ran Qingmo’s condensed ice crystals to sense what was inside.

The Saint’s Remnant Soul casually responded,

"The cultivation technique this man practiced must be one of the original Ghostification Techniques from ten thousand years ago. His body has almost all the characteristics of a ghostified being; he’s not so easy to kill."

Xu Yuan fell into another brief silence, then asked,

"So powerful—what’s the price to pay?"

"Requires the consumption of flesh and blood and is prone to losing control," the Saint’s Remnant Soul answered without hesitation. As someone who had survived a great calamity and was amongst the upper echelons of humanity, he knew quite well what Ghostification entailed.

However, after a pause, the Saint’s Remnant Soul chuckled and once again started to pitch his cultivation technique to Xu Yuan,

"How about it, young Xu, want to consider switching to my cultivation technique? My technique doesn’t have these worries."

Hearing this, the corners of Xu Yuan’s lips quirked up as he stared at the Saint’s Remnant Soul with a half-sneer,

"Are you sure you want me to learn it?"

"...."

Feeling Xu Yuan’s gaze, the Saint’s Remnant Soul inexplicably felt as if this young man knew everything. His eyelid twitched, and he huffed,

"Hmph, if you don’t want it, forget it. Back in the day, there were countless who begged me..."

"Enough."

Xu Yuan waved his hand to cut off the Saint’s Remnant Soul, "If his head is cut off and left for a long time, will he die?"

"He probably won’t, given that his body has almost entirely undergone Ghostification."

The Saint’s Remnant Soul wasn’t annoyed by the interruption; he shook his head and then asked, "Young Xu, are you asking this because you plan to hand him over to your Black Scale Guards for interrogation?"

Xu Yuan nodded and looked back toward the direction of Shengshan County,

"After doing such things, there must always be someone who pays a price."

The Saint’s Remnant Soul looked at Xu Yuan, amusement in his voice,

"You claim your sister is foolish, yet you’re doing the same thing she does."

Xu Yuan didn’t respond immediately, instead drawing the Qingyu Sword from the Sumeru Ring. He stepped forward deliberately and, as his soul power surged, he decapitated the short-haired old man with a single stroke of his sword.

Holding the old man’s head in his hand, Xu Yuan remained calm and turned back, saying,

"Old Man Luo, I call her foolish because the future she desires is impossible with her current methods. As for me, I do this simply because the Myriad Manifestation Sect has been a pain in my side."
