Legendary Shelter Survival Guide -
Chapter 348 - 348: The magical work of bringing people together (1)
Both Lucas and Sandra travelled back to the shelter with new goals. While there was a lot of uncertainty about her skill, there was a clear short-term goal in front of her—to get her ability to progress three more levels.
When they reached back to the shelter, Lucas first went to John to let him know all the things that had transpired before he decided to meet up with Sarah first.
When he entered the basement, which was their makeshift workshop, Lucas could hear the clanging sounds of metal hitting metal. While it may have been loud, when heard with patience, there was a melody to it.
Each 'CLANG' made from the hammer was after a specific period of time. There was no gap in between, even though the sounds were hard.
Lucas could tell that Sarah's whole body was so tired that even lifting that hammer should be a big task, but that was what made the situation even better.
'She's in the zone...' Lucas thought with a warm smile.
Her eyes were so determined that no matter what Lucas thought, he didn't want to interrupt that concentration level.
The heat inside the basement was a lot more hot than he had left it with. The countless small pores on the ceiling were working well, but there was only so much they would do.
He went to the side wall to inspect the temperature on it and decided on something. There was a need for a cooling system in the basement.
But not that cool, as it would only hinder the temperature of the furnace.
Lucas stepped a little closer to the furnace to see the ores stacked over one another.
There were six of them. While their surface was burned, Lucas could feel the qualities of it—being a fellow blacksmith.
"Lucas, let's make some low wind runes this time!" a voice came from the stairs.
Lucas just shook his head with a chuckle. Sarah's concentration popped within a second, and she looked at the stairs in confusion.
Yet through the side of her eye, she saw the glimpse of the person she had been waiting for.
"LUCAS!" Sarah's eyes glistened in excitement, and she brisked her way to Lucas and hugged him tightly, her arms wrapped around his shoulder.
Until finally, she realized that she was all sweaty.
"Oh no, you're sweaty now too," Sarah spoke in a disappointed tone.
Looking at her changing emotions, Lucas chuckled before he hugged her again, making her surprised.
"This sweat is not dirty, it's a show-off about your hard work, Sarah. I like it," Lucas spoke as he tightened the hug.
Sarah, whose temperature was already quite high, warmed up even more under his embrace.
It was quite the good moment before the devil that broke her concentration finally reached down.
"Ah fuck, it's like an oven down here," Sam muttered while moving his hands like a fan around his face.
"We won't be making any runes right now, Sam. There is more work to be done," Lucas stated with a sigh. He liked the enthusiasm, but it was as if this guy was obsessed with runes now.
"Well, if it's not runes, then I will only be a hindrance to you. I will be right there if you change your mind."
Just when Lucas rejected him, Sam lost all his excitement and quickly went inside his workshop before he disappeared as fast as he came down.
Lucas and Sarah looked at each other and then the tent before they burst out in laughter.
"I will shut down the furnace now, give me a minute," Sarah said and went to the furnace to exhaust it finally.
While she was doing that, Lucas went inside toward the ingots to inspect them further.
"All of them are Uncommon and Rare. I must say, Sarah, they are very good for a beginner," Lucas said with a wide smile.
The ingots were enough to start making even better stuff. And having a person who was as excited for a profession as him became an even better motivation to make more stuff.
"Oh, what are we going to make with them?" Sarah asked while inspecting the furnace. The fire was already out and only the temperature go-down was left.
"All sorts of things, Sarah, just wait and see. If you found this interesting, then the next projects will boggle your mind," Lucas stated with a grin, making Sarah's eyes burn with passion too.
"I will be completing the hut project first, though, so we will start the next smith session tomorrow morning. How about that?" Lucas asked Sarah.
"That sounds good to me. But can I come again and make some more ingots before that?"
"You can do whatever you want, Sarah. If you want, use 1 or 2 of the ingots you made and try changing them to another shape too." Lucas gave her a thumbs-up, making her nod cutely.
They both went up to have some food from the makeshift kitchen. When he opened the door, Lucas couldn't help but smile, looking at everything.
There was a hut for every single individual in the shelter now. The clay oven was working well, and the defense walls had runes that helped keep things both safer and hot for the upcoming season change.
Now all that was left was making the remaining furniture for the shelter.
'When this shelter is over, I will give some time to make some tools with Sarah in the morning, and then... it will all be teleportation study.' Lucas made small goals for the upcoming time.
He went outside the shelter and found many planks on the ground. It seemed Barney, John, and Mike had made quite some progress.
With the raw material right there in front of him, Lucas started speedrunning everything.
Many came to meet him and look at how he was making things with just the basic tools and products.
But at the end of the day, nobody helped fully to make them. There were many that were just not interested in woodworking aside from John and Mike, but they had other important tasks to complete.
By the end of the day, all the huts had the basic furniture inside them. Now, the only thing truly left was a good mattress.
