Chapter 480: Chapter 480: Analysis, the Identity of the Mole - Part 2

FBI Los Angeles Branch, Office of the Director.

Knock, knock. Luo An entered the office with Horst from the Monitoring Department. Besides Director Nasim, there was also Potante Byrne, the long-unseen team supervisor.

This was Luo An’s third meeting with Director Nasim in just a few days.

For a grassroots investigation team leader, it was very rare to enter the director’s office so frequently at the FBI Los Angeles Branch.

"Good afternoon, Director, Supervisor."

Upon entering the office, Luo An greeted Director Nasim and team supervisor Potante Byrne, then handed over the folder in his hand to the director and said with a light smile:

"The head of the Naloya drug trafficking group, Tahveli, has confessed."

"Very good."

Director Nasim couldn’t hide the joy in his eyes as he opened Luo An’s interrogation records. After briefly examining the documents, he passed the folder to Potante Byrne, looked towards Luo An with a smile, and said:

"Luo An, you truly live up to the praise Potante Byrne has always sung. The Lindens’ murder case has only just begun, and you have already clarified the entire incident’s process. I must say, your work is exceptional!"

Faced with Director Nasim’s compliments, Luo An stood up straight and smiled without uttering too many modest words.

After all, Western culture differs from the East, and excessive modesty could leave a poor impression on Director Nasim.

After briefly reading through the content of the folder, Potante Byrne also said with a smile:

"My team is full of talents, and Special Investigation Team leader Luo An Greenwood is certainly one of the best, worthy of the director’s praise!"

The seated director nodded with a smile, joked with Potante Byrne for a bit, then took a sip of coffee, his expression gradually becoming serious. He asked Luo An in a grave voice:

"How far have you gotten with the mole issue?"

As Director Nasim posed the question, both Horst from the Monitoring Department and team supervisor Potante Byrne turned their gaze toward Luo An.

Luo An’s smile remained unchanged as he chuckled softly and said:

"Report to the director, I have found that person."

As Luo An’s words fell, Horst’s eyes showed a stirred emotion, quickly replaced by disbelief, while Director Nasim and Potante Byrne showed no change in expression. They exchanged glances and said:

"Explain in detail."

"No problem."

Luo An retrieved the folder from Potante Byrne’s hand, flipped to the last few pages to show it to the three of them, and explained:

"The mole has been very cautious, doing many things to erase their traces, but the more they’ve done, the quicker they’ve been exposed."

Luo An listed all the mole’s actions:

The mole, their subordinates or accomplices, used phones to contact Tahveli; collected money through three different overseas bank accounts; printed information about the undercover agents and the Lynn Osborne family into documents; placed the documents in storage lockers at train stations or airports; contacted Agent Wilder of the Homeland Security Department in an unknown manner, paying him and ordering him to kill Tahveli amidst the chaos.

Furthermore, this mole could access the identities of undercover agents from Homeland Security and other departments; was aware of the "Undercover Death Quota" for middle managers at the FBI Los Angeles Branch each year; the ongoing incidents of undercover agents’ unexplained identity exposures leading to death have been happening for over six years, which means that the mole has been employed at the FBI Los Angeles Branch for at least six years...

"I outlined all these conditions, checked each one against the FBI Los Angeles Branch building, and soon found 3 supervisors who fit the criteria."

Luo An pulled out a piece of paper from the last part of the folder and handed it to Director Nasim. Director Nasim glanced at the names on the paper, his eyebrows slightly raised, then handed the paper to Potante Byrne.

Potante Byrne looked down and saw that the three mole suspects listed by Luo An were the Information Management Department Chief – Frederick; the Internal Threat Office Director – Semanji; and the Professional Responsibility Office Director – Ms. Melani.

Director Nasim’s eyes narrowed slightly and he asked:

"Which of these three people do you think is the mole?"

Luo An said solemnly:

"Internal Threat Office Director - Mr. Semanji."

"What is the key reason?"

"On one hand, Mr. Semanji has the right to access the information of the undercover agents in various departments, which perfectly matches the aforementioned criteria, and he has served in various departments of the FBI Los Angeles Branch for over 6 years."

Luo An handed the list of information found by the Special Investigation Team to Director Nasim and Potante Byrne, while explaining:

"On the other hand, there’s a problem with the frequency of Mr. Semanji’s business trips."

According to Tahveli’s previous testimony, he paid first, and as soon as it was confirmed that the money had been received, he was immediately told where the information about the undercover agent was hidden in a storage locker.

This means that before the mole called the crime boss, they had already prepared the information about the undercover agent in a storage locker.

Just looking at the years of undercover agent casualties, Mr. Semanji, the Head of the Internal Threat Office, has no issues.

However, if you move the timeframe up to when the crime boss discovered the identity of the undercover agent, it turns out that Mr. Semanji was either on a business trip or en route.

In addition, federal law stipulates "legal political contributions," which result in more or less problematic bank accounts for senior law enforcement officials in federal agencies, including those at the higher echelons of the FBI Los Angeles Branch.

Mona’s investigation found that Semanji’s bank accounts were unusually "clean" compared to others, though he also had some "extra income," which did not match up with his everyday spending habits.

Luo An left this point unspoken; he instead included it as additional evidence in the folder, leaving it to Director Nasim to handle.

After listening to the narration, Horst turned his head and took a deep look at Luo An.

He had to admit that as the leader of the Special Investigation Team, Luo An had performed to the utmost within the scope of his authority, and despite the short time, his analysis and reasoning were meticulous and well-grounded, which consequently raised an indescribable sense of respect for Luo An in Horst’s heart.

Clap clap clap—

Clap! Clap! Clap!

"Good, very good."

After hearing Luo An’s account, Director Nasim banged on the table, threw back his head, and laughed heartily with continuous praise.

Feeling that a couple of compliments weren’t enough, Director Nasim paused for a few seconds and continued clapping, his face filled with admiration, saying:

"Excellent! Truly deserving of being the youngest investigative team leader at our FBI Los Angeles Branch!"

Division Supervisor Potante Byrne also smiled and clapped along. Once the Director stopped speaking, he looked at Luo An with a face full of emotion, then added jokingly:

"Not only is Luo An the youngest investigative team leader at our FBI Los Angeles Branch, but he’s also the youngest in the entire federal system!"

"That’s right!"

Director Nasim admitted his own slip of the tongue with a smile on his face. As his laughter gradually subsided, he got up, walked over to Luo An, and asked:

"I heard that during the previous operation, you went alone to capture the target person?"

"Well..."

Seeing Luo An’s reaction, Director Nasim raised his hands and firmly patted Luo An’s shoulders twice, chuckling:

"You’re still young, and you haven’t been in the team leader position long enough to become accustomed to it. Remember to call for backup in the future, don’t rush in by yourself."

Seeing the amiable expression on Director Nasim’s face, Luo An immediately nodded with a smile.

"Excellent."

Director Nasim was very satisfied and patted Luo An’s shoulder again with force, then turned back to his chair. Potante Byrne, seeing this, laughed and handed Luo An a black folder, explaining:

"Your analysis and judgment were very accurate, the head of the Internal Threat Office—Semanji, indeed is the person we are looking for."

While the Special Investigation Team and Homeland Security Department went to raid the farm, Director Nasim and Potante Byrne naturally didn’t sit idle, seizing the opportunity to launch a secret inquiry.

Given their high positions and the extensive information they accessed, combined with Luo An’s previous analysis and the clues found, as the farm was being raided, Director Nasim and Potante Byrne quickly determined the mole’s identity.

Luo An was neither surprised nor astonished by this; he had already found so many pieces of information and leads, so if Director Nasim, who was several levels above him, and the experienced Potante Byrne couldn’t find the mole...

Then there would definitely be a serious problem with the mole’s identity, and Luo An had been prepared to seek help from headquarters beforehand.

Of course, this thought could not be revealed. After looking through the contents of the folder, Luo An’s face immediately showed surprise, and his words were full of admiration for the two chiefs.

Both chiefs smiled with satisfaction, filling the entire office with a lively atmosphere.
