Chapter 785: Chapter 30: Chamber of Commerce Organization
"Is it a coincidence?" a chamber of commerce member named "Jin" asked, eyeing Jeanne suspiciously.
In his view, all of this was very suspicious. He now seriously doubted whether Jeanne had colluded with Asgard to set a trap, using the power of the chamber of commerce to help them shake off the Mobile Cavalry.
"Forget it, Jin," An elderly voice chimed in at this moment—its timbre somewhat reminiscent of "Xiang Shan’s voice" in Jeanne’s memory, that of an old man’s throat.
A figure emerged from the Alloy Stand, hands clasped behind their back: "She has been with us for several years now, and is mostly reliable."
Jin thought for a moment, then waved his hand. The remaining drones all returned to the inside of the Alloy Stand. There must be a container there for storing the drones.
The person turned to Asgard: "Miss Asgard, I trust that you haven’t taken advantage of us. But that’s not the issue. When you joined us, you concealed a huge risk from us, didn’t you?"
Asgard avoided the person’s gaze: "You are right. Let it be. I understand now."
"It’s good that you understand," the person said, "I hope you can explain the whole truth—as someone who narrowly escaped death at the hands of the Mobile Cavalry, we still have this right, don’t we?"
Asgard sighed and put away her weapon: "You are right."
"Miss," the man, who appeared to be a manager, then turned to Jeanne, "we have no reason to restrain your freedom. But we are also comrades who have fought side by side. Until we resolve things with Asgard, you are welcome to stay with us."
Jeanne pondered briefly. Then Xiang Shan immediately informed her of the reason facing her.
It seemed that within this chamber of commerce organization, there must be some "rules." They wanted to expel Asgard, but they had to follow some sort of procedure. Until this procedure was complete, the chamber of commerce would still ensure Asgard’s safety—this also meant that as long as Asgard was present, they were still at risk of being attacked by the Mobile Cavalry.
At this time, keeping Jeanne with them was also a form of protection.
[Why?] Jeanne wondered profoundly. [They are not Heroes, are they?]
[Hard to say. It’s also possible that Heroes are putting on an act. But on the surface, it really doesn’t seem like it.]
[Then why would they do such odd things? They are almost certain to expel Asgard, aren’t they?]
[Humans in the past united themselves through such "odd things." Because of "rules," they have the consciousness that "those who follow the same rules are comrades." Since the "rules" decide when Asgard will leave, until that moment comes, Asgard is part of them. Handing Asgard over to the enemy will only make some individuals within their group worry, "Will I also be abandoned by this collective one day?"—and for a collective, that is almost lethal.]
At this point, Tumor Xiang Shan paused: [And to be honest, the Mobile Cavalry is not an entity you can negotiate with.]
Although Jeanne and the chamber of commerce, along with the passersby here, had repelled the Mobile Cavalry, the death toll among the Mobile Cavalry was only in single digits. After being refurbished, they were still very powerful.
According to Jeanne’s understanding, there should still be a team of five to ten people in the city responsible for providing support and ensuring a retreat,
For the chamber of commerce, this force was still very frightening.
At this time, if Jeanne left and the chamber was attacked again, the situation would be very passive.
After understanding this point, Jeanne accepted the chamber of commerce’s invitation.
Similarly, she temporarily needed the chamber of commerce’s martial prowess. She had now lost four fingers and her external armor was damaged in multiple places; her ammunition reserves were also running low.
Moving to the preset safe house brought a greater risk than simply recuperating right here.
Although Jeanne also had the option of "letting Tumor Xiang Shan take control of her prosthetic body," to her, this option was worse than death. She didn’t want that lunatic old man in her head controlling her at all.
Jeanne then entered the Alloy Stand as well.
The chamber of commerce members were quite fair when distributing the spoils of war. They left Martial Artist’s prosthetic body for Jeanne. Not only that, but they were also willing to give Jeanne some of the parts dismantled from other disabled limbs. Jeanne did not refuse, selecting some that she needed.
The parts used by the Mobile Cavaliers were quite elite. In many places in the Solar System, these parts could be used as hard currency.
Jeanne dismantled Instructor Li’s prosthetic body and first replaced her own palm.
Honestly, it wasn’t too great. Jeanne’s wrist and forearm contained a drum for bullets and a gun barrel. This was to ensure that, even after her primary and secondary weapons had emptied their magazines, she could still fire bullets ― during close combat with an enemy, she could simply drop the empty guns and swing her fists.
This was quite meaningful for a Firearm Warrior.
If she had time, she would still want to modify this hand, disassemble the modules, and then replace components like the main body frame...
But for emergency purposes, this was enough.
While waiting, Jeanne also inquired about some news from the chamber of commerce.
The organization’s name was the Hippocrates Chamber of Commerce, commonly known as the Hermo Association. It was a business collective formed by merchants from several asteroid belts, mainly dealing in high-end potions, including drugs that accelerated the formation of external strength and those essential for practicing high-level Inner Strength, as well as medication related to brain damage.
In theory, the resources sold by the Hermo Association should be semi-essential for warriors, and the business should have been good. However, even after many years of establishing a mutual help chamber of commerce, they had never managed to grow significantly. The market always had some drugs of dubious origin squeezing their market share.
[Scientific Knight or Six Dragons Sect?] Tumor Xiang Shan thought to himself.
Despite the Hermo Association never being able to expand and strengthen, they still faced the hostility of certain forces. Over the years, they had been continuously attacked, both overtly and covertly. The chamber of commerce had thus formed its own martial force.
Asgard had joined the Hermo Association several years ago.
"How many years has it been..." Jeanne pondered.
― It seemed that Asgard had escaped Earth a few years later than I did, but she didn’t linger on Mars and went straight to the Asteroid Belt...
[Old man, what do you think?]
[She didn’t go to Mars, to seek information from the Scientific Knight Order, but came straight here.] Tumor Xiang Shan said, [With an unreasonable tumor like mine, the first reaction should usually be to see a specialist ― meaning seeking professional advice. In this case, going to Mars would have been a natural choice. Instead, she came here...]
[But that doesn’t prove anything. If she didn’t want to dig too deep, she could have just taken a large dose of the Restoring Enzyme ― this would be a safer approach...]
Jeanne shook her head, [She wouldn’t do that.]
