Chapter 782: Chapter 27: Market Clash [Part 2]

Just at that moment, Jeanne’s suppressed emotions suddenly erupted like a dam bursting.

It had been ten years.

Since Xiang Shan took her away from the training camp on the Moon, she had been hiding and running. Over these ten years, she hadn’t established contact with anyone else. The Protector’s system couldn’t accommodate him, and because of her prejudice against Xiang Shan and her concealment of her own purposes, she never truly integrated into the community of the Hero.

Apart from some assistance she had received from Scientific Knights on Mars, she hadn’t communicated with anyone else in ten years.

The sense of loneliness made Jeanne excessively tense inside.

She hadn’t expected that after seeing someone who resembled an old friend, her emotions would react in such a way.

A process unrelated to combat had occupied too much of her brain’s computational resources. She missed a segment resembling an ambushing poisonous snake: the Chain Sword.

This Chain Sword was composed of blade segments strung together by a cable that extended from the hilt and retracted into a winding reel behind the Martial Artist’s forearm shield. When the cable tightened, the blades interlocked, and this weapon could be used as a regular sword. The diamond-plated, high-strength alloy blades and cleverly designed structure provided sufficient strength and interception ability.

Of course, like all bladed weapons in this era of universal armor, its lethality was still insufficient.

However, the cable embedded with synthetic muscle fibers provided enough flexibility.

Like Magnetic Weapons, it could also use swift electromagnetic forces for contraction.

With modern technology, the electromagnetic force that could be applied to this segment of the Chain Sword, if converted into an electromagnetic gun, would be sufficient to propel the largest caliber bullet at several times the speed of sound.

This was akin to using the force of a cannon to propel the blade to cut or shear.

Joints, limb extremities, mounted weapons, and most importantly, the head... could all be directly severed by the sudden contraction of the Chain Sword.

Indeed, it was a sinister weapon.

Jeanne knew that Tumor Xiang Shan had lent her a hand. If she had ignored this small Chain Sword earlier, her foot would have likely been injured.

Maybe not fatally, Jeanne could still have escaped, but her subsequent plans would certainly have been compromised.

"Just this once...," said Jeanne.

Tumor Xiang Shan chuckled twice in Jeanne’s mind. He knew that for someone as contrary as Jeanne, that remark could tentatively be taken as a thanks.

Their brain-to-brain communication transpired with extreme rapidity—some of their thoughts were essentially mingled. At this moment, Jeanne had not even retracted the kick she had launched. She stepped directly forward, charging along the direction of the Chain Sword.

The Chain Sword leaped up like a startled snake, curling towards Jeanne from the middle. Jeanne swung her fist calmly, her fist’s tip firing a bullet. She had thrown the punch only at the moment the Chain Sword was almost upon her, so even amidst such high-speed motion, the bullet hit the Chain Sword precisely. The Chain Sword, like a snake hit in the spine, lost its ability to move, and the recoil pushed Jeanne away from the rock wall.

Then, at that instant, she turned on all her Magnetic Field Generators to their maximum.

A tremendous force pulled Jeanne toward the Metallic Cliff while she drew a dagger with her backhand.

The dagger was a good conductor without ferromagnetic properties; its carbon molecular coating peeled off upon collision with the cable’s protective layer, driving the alloy blades into the cable’s interior.

The dagger, with a built-in power source, discharged instantly.

Then, the synthetic muscle fibers naturally contracted.

The Chain Sword instantly folded into a ball. The layered blades shattered and broke Jeanne’s dagger, but she did not let go of the dagger’s handle.

The owner of the Chain Sword was yanked down unexpectedly.

This is a low-gravity environment!

The signature Ranger knew trouble was imminent, and immediately deployed his magnetic chain weapon. However, Jeanne fired twice simultaneously to both sides, sending four bullets careening into the magnetic weapon, leaving the Ranger unable to leverage it. The Ranger tried to use a sonic barrier to change his stance, but Jeanne’s movement technique was superior.

In the moment their paths crossed, Jeanne’s fist heavily slammed into the damaged part of the Ranger’s external armor—likely caused by some chamber of commerce guard.

The Ranger was rendered incapable of fighting.

Jeanne was propelled by the force of the bullets to another side of the metallic cliff.

Rangers had already begun to close in.

These Rangers had realized the gravity of the situation. This new foe was not only steeped in the Martial Studies of a Ranger, but also exhibited an exceptionally high level, far from easy to handle.

But it did not matter. This time, they brought three entire teams: the first two, as the main and reserve forces, respectively, with the third team on the outskirts ready to provide support. According to their intelligence, the martial power of that chamber of commerce could not even match their main force. Even with this unexpected individual appearing, pressing the reserve team forward should pose no problem.

Another seven or eight joined the fray.

Counting Jeanne and those taken down by the chamber of commerce, over twenty Rangers had joined the battlefield overall.

This could even be described as "terrifying."

A master, whose martial techniques reached the level of the First Heavenly Layer and whose prosthetic body still lacked power, could only handle six to seven Rangers—if disregarding his own defense, such a master could potentially defeat a Ranger with one move, but the skills of the Rangers were sufficient to inflict battle-impeding injuries on their adversary.

That assumption still relied on the master being able to turn a "one against seven" into "seven times one-on-one."

Even the most solitary Life Chaser would be far more adept at coordinated attacks than ordinary individuals from Jianghu.

In the absence of a One Layer Heaven Martial Artist, resisting about twenty elite Rangers represented this small merchant team as hidden dragons in tall grass. Put on Earth, some mid-to-small-sized sects were not as powerful as they were.

But it seemed to end there.

The reserve team of Rangers pressed forward. The tide of the battlefield began to turn fully in favor of Houndhawk.

At this time, the chamber of commerce guard, who seemed clumsy but was a master of "Great Skill Appears Clumsy," also noticed Jeanne. Previously, she was under siege by Rangers, in precarious danger which Jeanne, being too far, naturally couldn’t notice.

After consecutive charges, Jeanne was only a few dozen meters away from where she had been fighting.

The Martial Artist shouted angrily, "Jeanne? You’ve changed your prosthetic body... but you are Jeanne, aren’t you? Jeanne!"

His tone even carried anger.

Jeanne also exclaimed, "Asgard?"

At that moment, a red flash appeared in the corner of her vision.

A Ranger charged at her wielding a Sonicon Blade. The blade was marked with a red flash effect.

It was as if reminding her she definitely needed to dodge.

At the same time, three faint sword shadows appeared in her view, marked in light green.

Instinctively, Jeanne swung her fist, firing a bullet, while simultaneously using the recoil to evade out of the attack range.
