Chapter 780: Chapter 25 Accident
Under the sound of gunshots, a Mobile Cavalry’s shoulder burst into sparks.
Meanwhile, Faulkner V encountered an unexpected ambush.
A shadow suddenly used the recoil of firearms to charge directly towards him, closing the distance to within five meters in an instant, slipping out of the reach of his Chain Sword’s attacks.
"Fibonacci/Golden Spin," this move had a wide starting coverage, but once the move was made, the speed of change would be limited by the length to which the Chain Sword was extended.
The ambusher, in mid-air, contracted his stance like a beating heart, alternately expanding and contracting to transform his posture. Due to limited visibility, Faulkner V failed to catch the "stance" of the opponent in time.
In the critical moment, out of the four Magnetic Chains stabbed out from his back, two retracted violently, while one suddenly sprang back, shifting his body sideways by half a meter.
The attacker’s fist then missed its target.
Due to inertia, the attacker’s body flipped somersaults in mid-air. However, the foe was clearly well-prepared; with a kick, his heel fired several bullets, hitting one of Faulkner V’s comrades running on the right side. As the attacker rolled even faster, another punch continued to swing out.
Faulkner V blocked the punch, the Magnetic Chain weapons on his back retracted, leaving only one Magnetic Chain weapon that, using the "stickiness" of the Electromagnetic Force, clung to the fracture of the warship’s wreckage. This caused Faulkner V to fall backward, lessening the unloading force.
In this low-gravity environment, without the help of gravity and friction to "anchor," the power of striking techniques would be further diminished.
However, the moment the attacker withdrew his fist, a hot flash sprayed from the tip of the fist—a large-caliber bullet hit Faulkner V squarely in the front.
"Inertia" kept Faulkner V stuck in his original state of motion—his unloading speed couldn’t keep up with the bullet, of course.
The External Armor made of alloy actually exhibited ceramic-like cracks.
Just that one hit was a heavy blow.
If it hadn’t been for Faulkner V’s timely change of tactics, that shot could have landed on his neck or forehead.
The shattered Armor splattered out, and the recoil of firearms also propelled the attacker to retreat even faster. Several small missiles fired towards him.
Several missiles had begun to accelerate, while numerous Magnetic Chain weapons whirled in from all directions. Among them was Faulkner V’s own Chain Sword—unlike the ordinary and cheap Magnetic Chain weapons, the cables inside were woven with a large amount of synthetic muscle fibers, making it much more agile than the common snake.
This dangerous weapon, in this low-gravity space, undulated like a hazardous sea serpent closing in on its prey.
But none of these could entrap the attacker. This time, the attacker didn’t just roll freely but contorted their body, shifting the center of gravity to control the rolling posture. Meanwhile, the attacker’s arms relaxed, drawing two miniature submachine guns from the holsters on the rear Armor and landing in the hands. Both weapons fired at once, providing a new force for the attacker in mid-air.
In Faulkner V’s eyes, the attacker spun, accelerated, and rose with the silver light in both hands like a skyrocket firework. The attacker’s Spear Skill was excellent; even amidst the rolling, the majority of missiles could be detonated precisely. Countless sparks sprayed on the Magnetic Chain weapons, with metal fragments splintering and falling away.
In an instant, as she neared the "Metallic Cliff," the attacker’s movements underwent a significant change. She straightened out her body, soaring upward several meters like a darting fish. Faulkner V even saw electric arcs continuously flashing over her shoulder, knees, and forearms.
A burst of sparks exploded behind him. Those were bullets shot by a Gunner in the distance at her.
She had magnetic field generators on her body that utilized Martial Studies to produce Gang Qi. When these devices were fully powered, they could also aid in movement technique.
Just as Faulkner V was about to find cover, he felt his body stiffen.
An explosion erupted from his lower abdomen.
——Damn it...
My cultivation was simply not sufficient.
In this environment filled with fragments and ricocheting bullets, he couldn’t precisely identify the bullets shot at him.
And Jeanne, of course, hadn’t forgotten.
As Jeanne turned in mid-air, she found the time to fire a shot at Faulkner V.
The bullet passed through several pieces of flying debris, finding a narrow path among the trash, and burrowed into the wound Jeanne had just inflicted, robbing the Mobile Cavalry of his combat ability.
Faulkner V was immediately entangled by an ally’s Magnetic Chain weapon and pulled towards the outer area.
At that moment, screams erupted, and the crowd began to flee.
Faulkner V sent a high-speed encrypted transmission: "There is another one... the ambusher who targeted me, also a former Ranger. She clearly has traces of training! The boxing technique she used just now was a ’Space Type’ variant of the Mech Armor Iron Fist’s moves, with the style of a Martial God."
Two seconds later, the Commander made a judgment, "Mark the attacker, allocate a team from the reserve to follow, the rest continue with the mission!"
At this very moment, Jeanne had already escaped more than a hundred meters away. She increased her magnetism underfoot to stand firmly on the metallic cliff, and glanced below.
Those Rangers were charging towards another target. It was a larger shop display, seemingly a promotional and sales point for a commercial organization in the Asteroid Belt. That display appeared to have received news earlier, as several staff members promptly took out light weapons and fearlessly engaged in a shootout with the Rangers.
"Good news, they are targeting that. Bad news, you’ve been marked." Tumor Xiang Shan said as several people were highlighted in Jeanne’s vision.
Even though those individuals were mingling within the crowd, their posture and movement trajectories were markedly different from the chaotic masses.
"Five people, not carrying heavy weapons..." Jeanne asked, "What do you think the situation is down there?"
"Following your line of thought, these are a special group of Rangers, probably your juniors..." Xiang Shan replied, "What other possibilities could there be?"
"People from the training camp..." Jeanne quickly pondered, "The likelihood of taking them out here..."
The Black Ship Righteous Followers, the White Fleet Prosthetics Followers, and other Chivalrous Powers have always relied on the geographical advantage of the Asteroid Belt in warfare. With the Sixth and Seventh Martial Gods having conquered Saturn’s Universe, the chivalrous forces could stably obtain nuclear fuel. Moreover, this place has a high density of small celestial bodies, hiding who knows how many small supply points for Heroes.
Heroes had taken advantage of the rare "geographical benefits" within the Solar System. Meanwhile, the Neutral City-States utilized the "power vacuum" upheld by the Heroes.
The Rangers could infiltrate this place, but here, one wouldn’t have to worry about endless Pursuers.
"I think you are just too lonely." Tumor Xiang Shan seemed quite indifferent, "Perhaps those Rangers are potential recruits... but the enemy of one’s enemy isn’t always a friend. You’d better be aware of that."
"Next, we must take someone hostage in this city. There are other enemies of the Rangers here, so it’s a good opportunity to eliminate them, right?"
As Jeanne spoke, she started running on the metal cliff.
