Chapter 742: Chapter 386 Fiery Transformation [Part Five]

Kanhara Shinhara looked at her reflection in the flowing water, then slowly touched her face.

This was what she looked like at about twenty-six years old.

Kanhara Shinhara was born in the 2030s of the twenty-first century. Her first job as an adult was with Superman Enterprise. By that time, Superman Enterprise had already become a colossal entity that could influence the entire world. Her youth was spent in the VIP seats, beside Xiang Shan, passively observing how the old human society faded from dim to brilliant.

And then, it collapsed suddenly.

This was the image with which she most deeply identified, internally. While fighting as Hero, she wore a different face, one of steel.

She was now within the computer system of the Six Dragons Sect. The top-level physics engine provided the highest quality sensory simulations. It was as though she really had a flesh and blood body.

Logically speaking, Kanhara Shinhara should have been one of the humans most adapted to living with a Prosthetic Body. Her close elders were among the first Cybernetically Enhanced People in the world. She had also undergone cyberization quite early.

But even for her, it still took a little time to persuade the ancient instincts within her body.

Kanhara Shinhara slowly emerged from the water and waved her hand, changing her swimwear into casual clothes. On her first day at work, she was dressed in a Western-style uniform. Later on, Xiang Shan told her that Superman Enterprise had no such requirements; as long as it wasn’t a public event, one could dress casually within the company—as long as you could convince your colleagues, even unconventional attire wasn’t a problem.

It took Kanhara Shinhara several years to get used to this.

Kanhara Shinhara leaned against a wooden step, her hands making a holding gesture, and an electric guitar appeared in her embrace.

At this moment, a connection request materialized.

Kanhara Shinhara thought for a few seconds and then switched her appearance to the Prosthetic Body she had most recently been using. Although her former appearance was no longer a secret, she was still reluctant to interact with her companions from the Six Dragons Sect with that face.

It was the Tao Protector who entered.

Like many people in the modern era, the Tao Protector had completed a high degree of cyberization at a very young age. His face was a "potential visage" created by an algorithm based on his genetics. But genetics don’t solely determine one’s appearance. Expression and environmental influences also have a significant impact on the final result.

Algorithms only offer thousands of possibilities.

And the appearance ultimately chosen by users tended to be "astonishingly beautiful."

Kanhara Shinhara strummed her electric guitar twice: "Levy Envoy, how do you happen to have time to find me today? Are you recuperating well?"

After Secluded Crane City, the members of the Six Dragons Sect involved in the escort mission were granted a period of rest. They could use the resources of this advanced server to accommodate their instincts, easing the invisible stress in their hearts and keeping their brains active.

Considering they had faced a "possible Martial God" directly, it was surprising they were given such a long vacation.

The corners of Levy Envoy’s mouth twitched—he seemed to want to say something but instead smiled and said, "I just saw the Holy Maiden is also on vacation here when I was going through the Sect’s contact list, so I thought... maybe we could chat?"

Kanhara Shinhara glanced at the Prosthetic Eye of Levy Envoy. This Cyberspace algorithm was highly advanced. Levy Envoy’s simulated face expressed the emotion of "eagerness" very well.

"Oh," Kanhara Shinhara nodded, "I suppose telling you to shut up directly would only make you feel frustrated. You want to ask about my uncle, Xiang Shan, don’t you."

Most people were like that, and Kanhara Shinhara had become accustomed to it. For a long time, she only needed to reveal her real name for many to come and talk to her about Xiang Shan or Yawgmoth. Not just during her time as Hero. When she returned to her hometown on vacation and called out her middle school friends for a shopping trip, those girls who had almost no grasp of Yawgmoth’s accomplishments also wanted to discuss such topics with her.

Kanhara Shinhara knew such things would happen when she revealed her identity in front of "that Xiang Shan."

Levy Envoy felt a sense of astonishment at being favored: "I can really ask?"

"We are, after all, comrades fighting for the same goal now, and we both narrowly escaped death under my uncle’s command. Talking about non-taboo subjects is fine," said Kanhara Shinhara as she gently stroked the strings of her guitar, "What would you like to talk about?"

Levy Envoy scratched his head: "It was just a spur of the moment...I’m sorry Holy Maiden, I haven’t sorted out my...questions yet."

Kanhara Shinhara burst into laughter: "Do you want to interview me like a journalist or a biographer? Prepare a list of questions?"

Levy Envoy also laughed at himself: "Oh, there were indeed such professions in the Old Era...what would those people usually ask?"

Kanhara Shinhara’s strumming hand paused. She thought for two seconds, then shook her head: "Forget it, don’t think about it. After a certain period, Uncle Xiang and the others started leaving that kind of work to me. And then...Superman Enterprise needed a cultivated image, so some questions were deliberated by the whole team. Uncle Xiang only liked to throw out his ideas directly and bluntly through the media."

Kanhara Shinhara probably smiled. Her steel body was just a "skin." In Virtual Space, she had a nearly realistic sense of touch. The sensation of her facial muscles moving must be what "smiling" felt like.

"The focus of those people in the Old Era is probably hard for you guys to imagine," she added.

Levy Envoy’s attention now focused on the electric guitar in Kanhara Shinhara’s hands: "Is this an instrument you originally knew how to play, or did you learn it after becoming Hero?"

Kanhara Shinhara was one of the earlier members to join Xiang Shan’s rebel forces. This was common knowledge. Thanks to her father’s connections and her own position in the company, Kanhara Shinhara had undergone "stable version" enhancements intended for global availability before everyone else in the world, performed personally by the core team of Superman Enterprise, unadulterated with any "extras." Those who received this version quickly became targets for assassination by the Usurper of the State, and even if it was for "protection," Xiang Shan would hurry to pull her to his side.

"Oh, this?" Kanhara Shinhara shook her head, "Of course it was after becoming Hero. I was busy before...in fact, I was also busy during the Hero Wars. Everyone knows that. After an early assassination attempt that didn’t go too well, Uncle Yawgmoth...Yawgmoth started the bad habit of fighting while singing to boost morale. But for some reason, the more he did that, the more the enemies were scared stiff. Then Uncle Xiang started to learn from him. He thought it was useful, later on, invented a series of performance techniques. Sometimes I even had to be their live accompaniment."

Kanhara Shinhara continued speaking, her thoughts wandering back to a key battle from the past.

Unbeknownst to her, Levy Envoy received a notification while she was mid-sentence.

Levy Envoy was so shocked, he could no longer hear her words.
