Chapter 687: Chapter 331: Great Terror

"Coming to kill me?" Ashur knew that life and death hung in the balance in the next few seconds. He steadied himself and roared, "I am a glorious Scientific Knight! I have never flinched in the face of the unknown, what are you?"

"I am justice," said the voice in the mist. It seemed like there were several sources of the voice. That guy appeared to be getting closer.

Within the metal aerosol, Hero said, "You have lured and forced others to participate in human experiments under various unreasonable pretexts, concealing the potential disastrous outcomes from them. You have desecrated science and harmed humanity. Bengel accused you before he died, and Ya Pinnin Zhao is one of the victims I have met. I have read your papers, filled with evidence of your crimes."

Ashur retorted, "Ridiculous! Wasn’t it you who killed Ya Pinnin?"

"That’s right," Xiang Shan’s tone was unflinching, "but, even if I decide to kill a criminal for justice tomorrow, it doesn’t mean he should be insulted and harmed by someone today. In times of peace, a criminal should still be allowed to spend a dignified night before his execution."

The metal aerosol pressed on closer. The Holy Knight was left with only a few square meters of clear visibility. He bellowed loudly, "Is this your sophistry, thug?"

"No, this is upholding righteousness loudly."

—Now!

Ashur suddenly drew his firearm and fired three times in the three most likely directions: front, side, and back.

He had maintained the conversation with his opponent just to gather more data, to model in his mind, and continuously eliminate disturbances.

There seemed to be the sound of bullets colliding with metal. There seemed to be the sound of something falling.

This was Ashur’s personally customized firearm with an exaggerated caliber. Ashur usually carried it as a stylishly designed walking stick. He believed, even a hero would be damaged by this device, penetrating the external armor at the very least.

This hero was adept in Inner Strength. The Holy Knight thought that the hero was probably unsure of his own close combat level and, since the Mona Knight Order also involved research in cognitive science, was not confident in completely overpowering him in Inner Strength. That probably led to this tactical choice.

Being penetrated in the external armor in Iron Dust meant a short-circuit. Perhaps it would cause loss of the ability to move. This hero had probably not anticipated his desperate counterattack.

Ashur breathed a slight sigh of relief. He turned and ran to the left.

Then, he came face-to-face with a pair of eyes.

Taking advantage of the metal aerosol, Xiang Shan had silently moved to Ashur’s side. This direction was towards the stairs downstairs. Xiang Shan figured the Holy Knight would most likely turn this way.

The sounds of being shot, of course, were his pre-prepared materials.

He had set up a network of wired speakers in advance, just for this moment.

In the moment their eyes met, Ashur felt an unprecedented powerful Inner Strength crushing him... no, more than that. Something, from the Brain-Machine Interface... from the electronic device, poured into his brain.

An indescribable, overwhelming fear seized his mind.

The last message Ya Pining left to the world was a piercing scream.

The screen had gone completely black. All the cameras were shrouded in the dense metal aerosol. The wireless signal could not penetrate it, and Xiang Shan could not use his Prosthetic Eye to live stream it either.

But thanks to the audio equipment of the monitoring system, those watching the live stream still heard a gentle hum.

"Lift your head and look around/The endless earth and sky/Are filled with a longing called home... Bearing wounds all over/Alone, I brave the storms/Rashly, as the years go by..."

.................................

It was just a matter of minutes.

Amilcare Zhao had only left his aerial garden for a few minutes. It was just a few minutes, from start to finish.

But now, this sanctuary of the mind had completely transformed.

The thug had ignited the metal aerosol before leaving. The metal heat agent released a terrifying high temperature, cracking his landscape architecture and turning his garden into a pile of char. Only the massive Bodhi tree was still burning fiercely.

In the roaring inferno, the large bell continued to ring crazily.

Still the same clear code.

But this time, the word spelled out by the bell had changed to...

Amilcare Zhao!

Amilcare remained silent as he looked at the debris on the ground—what once were remnants of a Holy Knight.

Although the high temperature from the metal heat agent had completely mangled the debris, Amilcare could still tell that this was not a complete prosthetic body. It seemed that the other party had taken many things before igniting the metal aerosol.

And the parts taken away were mostly likely inclusive of the biological brain.

"There is still a chance..."

Amilcare raised his hand, a micro missile shot out from beneath the Kite Shield, blasting the large bell to bits, then he turned and left.

From the enemy’s performance in hacking his live streaming channel, and the final condition of the Knight of Assyria, that Hero’s Inner Strength was incredibly high, almost making one wonder if they were indeed a native Earth Hero. But so far, he had not shown any frighteningly high external skills cultivation.

There were still chances to fight.

As for that ancient ballad called "Path of Justice," the Hero was simply trying to declare that he was the one who had killed Bengel three years ago. He was awakening the memories of the people of this city.

That was all.

This did not prove that this Hero was the same one from three years ago.

The assassin from three years ago was known for his external strength. That assassin didn’t possess such terrifying Inner Strength.

Amilcare got up, then rushed into the stairwell and down to the next floor.

A squad of soldiers was battling with a drone force ten times their size. These armed drones meticulously executed the commands they received.

Amilcare strode forward, his lance sweeping sideways, instantly exploding a row of drones.

The drones immediately fired live ammunition. Amilcare crossed his left hand up with the Kite Shield to block the direct shots, while the Vector Injector on his back activated, and he stormed like a hurricane into the cluster of drones.

With the cooperation of numerous soldiers, Amilcare quickly annihilated this drone squadron. He looked over to the small squad, accessed the data saved locally, and quickly recited a few names, shouting, "Fall in, follow me forward!"

"Yes!"

Xiang Shan had already caused the entire command system to collapse. And Amilcare, wary of the opponent’s Inner Strength, had temporarily cut off the wireless signal. Amilcare could not reorganize the command system either.

But Amilcare’s presence was the best verification. The enemy would not have a prosthetic body surpassing the First Heavenly Layer.

And Amilcare’s plan was simple. By engaging face-to-face, to directly gather an elite squad and surround and kill that audacious assassin.

Just at that moment, Amilcare heard a series of alert tones.

It was the sound of partitions being lowered within the building.
