Chapter 659: Chapter 303 The Oncoming Fury
Panic immediately erupted inside Recycling Station Town.
On the edge of Recycling Station Town, simple defensive fortifications had been constructed—mainly trenches, ditches, and makeshift firing points.
For the average person, these might be "comforting."
At least they were, three hundred years ago.
The "Guard Squad" the Town Mayor had put so much effort in preparing assembled in a flurry, then rushed into the trenches, flustered. This team of only a few dozen members even charged in several different directions, failing to gather together in the same place at the first time.
The old Town Mayor stumbled into the trenches and yelled at the Green Forest outside, "We are a protected settlement! I advise you to just leave like this! If you kill our people, the Protectors will come to kill you!"
"Yes!" Tajibur led a group of Green Forest Men leisurely towards the town. A few Prosthetic Body users with clumsier frames raised shields the size of doors. Such implements could effectively block small-caliber bullets. But Tajibur came empty-handed. He walked brazenly down the main road, dragging along a worker who had just retaliated against them.
This worker had encountered the Green Forest on the outskirts. It was precisely because the Green Forest men had laid hands on him that the settlement’s people realized these fellows meant harm.
He threw the worker, who now only had an upper body, to the other side of the trench and laughed loudly, "Look, I didn’t kill him. We’re all very measured in our actions."
Tajibur was dispatched by Heavenly Machine Star and the Heavenly Gang of the Tiger List to pioneer the Green Forest. His main task now was to plunder for recruits, not to kill. Although Tajibur also had a violent Green Forest impulse, his penchant for violence was more oriented towards "the desire for destruction" and "abuse" rather than "slaughtering." That was why he was chosen for this task.
The reason he attacked the settlement dwellers was firstly to test if they had any martial arts talents and secondly to show off their strength.
This was a Green Forest’s usual practice. If they beat the people of a settlement to a pulp and then ask "does anyone volunteer to join us," there would always be folks willing to follow.
Even if the newcomers harbored resentment against the Great Stockade, it didn’t matter. The Ultimate Way Consensus Therapy was a technology created to "eliminate strife"—and it was indeed useful if limited to "a small group from Green Forest."
He shouted loudly, "I’m here to ask, do any of you want to join up the mountain! Join now, and you’ll receive martial arts! Excellent treatment as well!"
A stir faintly arose within the town. The Town Mayor sensed trouble brewing.
Because "culture" had already been severed, the Town Mayor, unlike the chieftains and Tusi of the past, couldn’t understand the concept of "authority." However, even though he didn’t understand why, the Town Mayor vaguely felt that his words had been carrying more weight in the settlement over these past three years.
Now, the very thing that made his words weighty was facing a challenge. If he allowed the Green Forest to trample all over the little town without resistance, he feared his words would never carry weight again.
A thought emerged in the old Town Mayor’s heart: "This must absolutely never happen."
"Get lost!" the old man mustered his courage and roared with equal volume, "There are no companions for thugs here!"
Tajibur shook his hand, "Oh! It’s not uncommon to find settlements this mad..." he looked around, "But who gave you the courage to talk to me like this? Is there some Hero around?"
The Town Mayor roared again, "Think about it yourself! Three years ago, a thug known as ’Lev the Silver Transmission Shaft’ was killed here!"
"’Lev the Silver Transmission Shaft’... Lev Scheer?" Tajibur’s eyes suddenly lit up, "Is there a Hero in hiding here?"
"Lev the Silver Transmission Shaft", it was said, was the Charge Captain of "Chain Missile" Gleayard, the bottom-ranked of the Green Forest Tiger List, with impressive skills. With diligent training and more actual combat, he also could have had a chance to earn a spot on the Green Forest Tiger List.
In fact, such a renowned character was the direct role model for many Green Forest lackeys.
A few years ago, Tajibur himself would take Mr. Lev as a "sparring partner" to refine his martial arts.
—Even though I am most likely unable to defeat someone stronger than Lev... but how would I know if I never tried?
Tajibur let out a sinister laugh. His voice print pack was a hacked version personally done by the strategist in the mountains, a voice filled with emotion the likes of which these little town residents had never imagined in their lifetimes. That murderous intent almost shattered their bravado.
"I changed my mind." Tajibur laughed heartily, "It would have sufficed to beat you up at random. But since you’ve said that, let’s practice our troops instead."
As he spoke, he raised a hand, "Men! Basic formation! Don’t scatter! Charge at them and hack them to pieces!"
"Oh! Oh! Oh!"
The ones who had just joined the Green Forest, still unable to restrain their destructive urges and animosity, cheered immediately.
"Kill! Kill! Kill!"
The Town Mayor screamed, "Fire! Fire at them!"
The sounds of gunfire erupted near the trenches.
The Green Forest Men, holding the Alloy Great Shields, marched forward with uniform footwork, accelerating across the plain. At the same time, they drew weapons from behind.
This was a very special weapon, a peculiar chainsaw that was even up to one meter seventy in length, classified as a "long weapon" among melee weapons. The chainsaw had two sets of chains, one set with alternating L-shaped blades that could cut through non-metallic materials at high speed.
When necessary, the layer of alternating L-shaped blades could retract inwards, revealing the second chain. This chain had no blades or serrations, replaced instead by countless tiny synthetic diamonds embedded in a highly durable chain.
More than a "saw", this tool was closer to an "abrasive wheel."
It could effectively cut through metal.
Although in higher-level fights, this type of weapon had been completely abandoned. Even Martial Artists who couldn’t get their hands on a Sonicon Blade wouldn’t choose such a "toy" as their main weapon. However, for those at the bottom of the ladder with no concept of "dodging," this device remained terrifying.
Recycling Station Town didn’t have anyone savvy with networks, so no one was really using the internet to look for illegal resources. Hence, the designs for firearms they found were very outdated. For the big shots, these "antiques" and "toys" could, at best, be used to "appreciate design ideas."
There wasn’t a single gun in the entire town that could breach the defense of these brutish bulls!
