Chapter 387: Chapter 31: The Remains of Emperor Shitian

In the following days, Babbitt and Xiang Shan traveled while discussing some historical topics.

Like the Fourth Martial God, the Seventh Martial God indeed inspired and influenced a generation.

However, after the death of the Seventh Martial God, the resistance forces in the human world were generally exhausted.

Thus, for the next few decades, no new Martial Gods emerged.

The revival of the Eighth Martial God was like a miracle.

The Eighth Martial God had not yet transformed into a dragon when King Aqini killed him.

Next came the Ninth Martial God.

The Ninth Martial God, similar to the Fifth Martial God, mainly engaged in guerrilla warfare as a lone walker. But this was not his choice, it was the only option. After the Seventh Martial God died in battle, Jianghu had been without significant resistance forces for a long time. Bases near Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune still needed slow recovery; he had no other choice.

Yet the Ninth Martial God accomplished something unprecedented. After the Fourth and Seventh Martial Gods, once again, there were Protectors Kings who were slain.

He convinced the army to defect and even led an elite squad to the Throne of Yawgmoth.

Although the Ninth Martial God failed again, he rekindled the fire of chivalry.

The tenth and eleventh generations of Martial Gods, compared to their predecessors, were moderate. But the power of chivalry was indeed gradually recovering.

Even now, heroes are still active in every corner of the Solar System.

It’s not that they didn’t want to continue the conversation. When they talked about the tenth Martial God, Babbitt was approaching his destination for this trip.

Recycling Station Town, a town that exists by relying on a giant landfill.

This was also where Xiang Shan’s head was dug out.

"Great Hero, are you really not going in?" Babbitt stood outside, scratching his head, "This town shouldn’t be too hostile to heroes, I heard that three years ago, a hero helped them."

"No, I have some matters of my own, I don’t want to waste time," he said.

Xiang Shan said so.

Babbitt shrugged: "I understand, err on the side of caution. So, are you planning to just wander around the perimeter?"

"Yes. I’ll leave my stuff with you for now," Xiang Shan waved his hand, "I’ll meet up with you when I go to Pine Eagle City."

Babbitt was going to look for some stuff in Recycling Station Town. This place is a relic of the Sublimation Wars, and the ground is covered with large amounts of battlefield debris. In the early days of Pine Eagle City’s establishment, this place was chosen as a dumping zone for discarded materials.

Xiang Shan walked into the area and then dropped a box.

The box opened, and a drone slowly ascended.

Xiang Shan’s vision connected directly to the drone’s camera.

Even though Xiang Shan had obtained a drone during the battle at Gleayard, he was too busy escaping to observe it closely.

But now, looking again...

"Damn, it really is the wreckage of an ’Emperor Shitian class’ space battleship," Xiang Shan looked and said, "A ship type from the late stages of the Sublimation Wars... Yawgmoth’s flagship."

Although many parts were buried, looking at the huge contours remaining above the ground, the largest piece of metal waste in this landfill was indeed half of such a thing.

During the era of the Sublime Wars, the strategy of space warfare revisited the maritime approach, yet it was not the same as the naval warfare of the 21st century.

Earth’s naval battles and space naval battles differed fundamentally. Earth is a sphere, and its surface is curved, allowing massive ships to use the sea level itself as cover, releasing airborne crafts—such as airplanes and missiles for attacks.

Even the most powerful ground radars cannot detect huge warships 80 kilometers away, unless these ships are hundreds of kilometers high, or the radar is placed on an extremely tall foundation.

However, 80 kilometers is far less than the combat radius of 1,000 kilometers for a fighter jet.

Furthermore, aircraft have an absolute advantage in mobility compared to warships.

So, from the moment airplanes could launch from ships, the obsolescence of giant artillery warships became a matter of time.

But space warfare is different.

Apart from within planetary gravitational fields or in an asteroid belt, space rarely offers cover. The attack speed of carrier-borne aircraft will never exceed that of high-energy particle streams or missiles.

At that point, increasing the main gun’s range on warships makes more sense than deploying carrier-borne aircraft.

The combat group of cosmic warships is centered around massive battleships, supplemented by numerous smaller aircraft carriers/strike ships.

These smaller warships can carry Cyber Martial Artists to penetrate the enemy warship groups for boarding combat. A highly skilled Martial Artist tremendously exceeding the average combat ability, could even potentially eliminate everyone within a massive warship.

Xiang Shan was very proficient at this sort of thing. Not just the Martial Ancestor Xiang Shan in the Sublime Wars, but also the Fourth Martial God, Fifth Martial God, Seventh Martial God, and Ninth Martial God in the legends displayed similar capabilities.

Groups of warships with inferior main gun range could turn the tides with this strategy.

Eight reappeared at the edge of Xiang Shan’s view. Leaning against a partially corroded metal wall, with the back of his head against the wall, he said, "This piece here is still aerospace-grade plating. It’s not easy that it hasn’t decayed in two hundred years." He pointed at barely visible letters, "Do you know what this means? A unit number?"

"How could I possibly remember that," sighed Native Xiang Shan.

"We should confirm if this is Yawgmoth’s Lamark," said Eight. "I remember more than one Emperor Shitian crashed on Earth!"

"And some crashed into the sea," Xiang Shan shrugged.

"The rear half of the Emperor Shitian class battleship is missing. Not sure if it was an explosion or something," said Eight. "And then this thing was gradually recycled as garbage... Tsk."

"What happened?"

"If this was Yawgmoth’s flagship, would he really let it be turned into a landfill?"

After thinking for a moment, Native Xiang Shan mused, "Maybe he would. He might feel offended and then reflect on whether he’s being influenced by ’past cultures’ again and tell himself, ’that wreckage is now just garbage’, and let it be."

"Sounds pretty dumb,"

"Yeah, to an extreme degree of stupidity." Native Xiang Shan folded his arms, "Shall we keep digging?"

"Why not?" said Eight. "The best would be to find a hard drive that could reveal the identity of this warship."

"Impossible," Xiang Shan shook his head. "Hard drive technology from that time couldn’t have survived two hundred years of degradation. Any electronic device inside would be useless by now."

"Yeah. You try to keep the brain areas responsible for sensory thinking and abstract reasoning idle. Reallocate tasks through the system," said Eight. "Working on Inner Strength here."

"Alright then." Xiang Shan walked to a pile of metal junk.

Then he pulled out a Sonicon Blade from behind him.
