Chapter 1474: Chapter 1474 Expression
Julius Reed, who had been in a great mood and even humming a little tune, suddenly found himself annoyed by a phone call.
The ‘Nine Heavens Thorn’ was dead.
The Vein Holder had been killed, so who else could know the whereabouts of the ‘Nine Heavens Thorn’?
Even Jace Will had to send Nash Will to hide near Micah Will and look for an opportunity to force the truth out of him.
Now, father and son were both dead.
The Micah clan had fallen apart.
In this vast world, where Micah’s belongings were hidden was a complete mystery to Julius Reed.
“Don’t worry about it.” Gabriel Young, holding a cup of coffee, walked over to Julius Reed’s bedside and softly comforted him, “A blessing in disguise, perhaps? Who knows, maybe this is actually a good thing.”
Julius Reed, sitting on the edge of the bed, glanced at her, feeling significantly better.
Indeed, mature women truly understood.
Lolitas have their appeal, but when it comes to attentiveness, mature women win every time.
“How much time is left until the Azure Emperor’s ancient tomb opens?” He glanced at his watch, only to suddenly notice that the hands had stopped moving.
How odd!
Additionally, ever since he started wearing the watch, his wrist had occasionally experienced pains.
Pains that followed a strange rhythm.
At first, Julius Reed didn’t pay much attention, but the pain seemed to worsen and occur more frequently over time.
“Based on the latest calculations…” Gabriel Young turned around and retrieved a sleek laptop, then began typing furiously.
After a minute, she raised her head, red lips parting slightly: “According to astronomical changes, it’s estimated that the poisonous miasma surrounding the Azure Emperor’s tomb will dissipate in about 48 hours. This is a rare opportunity that only comes once every few centuries! At that time, many powerful individuals will head there.”
“That’s enough.”
Julius Reed nodded.
48 hours—more than enough for him to accomplish a lot.
“Has this watch ever malfunctioned while you were wearing it?” Julius Reed casually asked.
The moment he asked, he regretted it.
What if Gabriel Young wanted it?
If she wanted it, should he give it to her or refuse?
Giving it would make him seem spineless.
Refusing would risk her pressing him harder for it.
“Not at all! This watch is well-crafted—a custom piece from our Young Family. How could it possibly malfunction?” Gabriel Young took the opportunity to sit on the bed next to Julius Reed, leaning her shoulder against his: “Let me take a look—what’s going on?”
“Uh…”
Honestly, it’s hard for any man to resist this kind of temptation.
A lone man and woman, a soft bed.
A stunning beauty, dim lighting.
The depths of the night.
But, unfortunately, Julius Reed wasn’t just any man.
He was a god among men.
A trivial situation like this was something he could handle.
“Hey! The watch hands really aren’t moving.” Gabriel Young thought Julius Reed might have been making up an excuse to get her closer for some sinister purpose.
But she hadn’t expected the watch to actually be broken.
The watch had been a birthday gift from her brother.
Just as Gabriel Young had described, the custom watches from the Young Family were made using exorbitant amounts of money, using the finest materials and craftsmanship in the world. They were refined after years of testing and manufacturing.
How could it possibly have such a low-level issue?
“You always brag about how great your Young Family is, yet here you all are, treating a useless watch like it’s treasure. Honestly…” Julius Reed was about to mock Gabriel Young when, all of a sudden, a thought crossed his mind.
When he left earlier, he had felt some discomfort in his wrist—it seemed like he had pressed too hard against it.
The pressing didn’t feel unusual at the time.
But every time the pain occurred, he had instinctively pressed again.
Upon closer inspection now, the watch was clearly deformed.
This was on him!
If Gabriel Young found out, she’d be nagging nonstop.
And she might even flip out.
After all, it was her brother’s gift, so Julius Reed had to put on a show and act concerned.
“Alright, it just so happens that I know how to fix watches.” He removed the watch and started fiddling with it. “Listen, don’t treat junk like treasure anymore. When I saw that it was cheap-looking, I decided to take it and gift you a better one. Look, see? It’s broken now.”
“Thank you.” Gabriel Young giggled sweetly—she really was quite charming.
She was wearing a red silk nightgown, tightly pressed against Julius Reed’s body.
Her eyes occasionally darted to the man’s face.
“Watches are supposed to tell time. Don’t mess with flashy nonsense in the future.” Julius Reed didn’t actually know how to repair watches.
A wealthy man of his stature preferred replacing over repairing.
In his life, the word “repair” simply didn’t exist.
Since the watch was broken, he planned to dismantle it carelessly, then come up with an excuse, claim it couldn’t be fixed, and toss it away.
“You can fix watches?” Gabriel Young gazed at Julius Reed with a mixture of admiration and infatuation.
Strangely, if it had been any other woman behaving like this, Julius Reed would have cut her down without hesitation!
Maybe this particular woman reminded him of Itai Huntington?
Both burdened by fate, both shouldering their respective family legacies.
Both… mature women.
“Back when I was a kid, my family was poor and lived in the mountains,” Julius Reed sighed with an air of melancholy. “You probably can’t imagine what those days were like. It would take me over thirty minutes just to get to the nearest toilet.”
“That tough, huh?”
Gabriel Young wanted to ask what he’d do if he had stomach issues.
However, she worried it might dredge up sad memories for Julius Reed, so she simply offered consolation: “The mountains must have had fresh air though.”
“Yeah, luckily I had a mode of transportation. Otherwise, just getting from the toilet at the base of the mountain to home would have been exhausting—it’s an uphill climb of a thousand meters. It’d kill you.”
The great hall of Demarco Mount required climbing countless stairs to reach the toilet.
And the golden, extravagant toilets at the foot of the hill were a symbol of power!
Just as he was saying this.
Ka!
With brute force, Julius Reed managed to pry open the watch.
It took quite a bit of effort!
“Huh!”
When the watch was opened, Julius Reed squinted his eyes suspiciously.
Something wasn’t right!
Though it was a finely crafted mechanical watch, why did it have a battery inside?
The watch had stopped working, yet there was a tiny light inside, flashing repeatedly.
“Turn on the light!” Julius Reed ordered, and Gabriel Young immediately turned on the brightest lamp.
“What’s wrong?” Gabriel Young didn’t understand the situation. Seeing Julius Reed react so strongly, she thought he must be worried about the watch because it mattered to her.
“Take a look—what is this?” Julius Reed reached out with his right hand, gently removed Gabriel Young’s earrings, then took out a tiny component from inside the watch.
“A bugging device?” Gabriel Young exclaimed.
“No.” Julius Reed stood up, contemplated briefly, then looked at her: “Block all signals in the Young Family immediately. Can you do it?”
“I can!” Gabriel Young understood the gravity of the matter, and without hesitation, got up from the bed and stormed out!
It was clear she was extremely angry!
Ten minutes later.
Gabriel Young, now wearing a trench coat, returned to the room.
“Does that mean our every word and action has been completely known to others?” Her face looked bitter: “I’ve kept this watch with me at all times. Could it really be that someone tried to harm my brother back then…”
“Think bigger!” Julius Reed held the tiny component between his fingers: “Could it be your brother staged his own death and used this to monitor you instead?”
Gabriel Young was about to refute him, saying, “Impossible,” but she hesitated and held back.
She was a deeply emotional person, yet the man standing before her made her feel rational once again.
“Run some tests—check if there’s any place in the Young Family that’s continuously transmitting signals.” Julius Reed pressed the component between his thumb and forefinger: “If I’m not mistaken, this thing likely stores some data to conserve energy and sends it out periodically. By the way, have you occasionally felt pain in your wrist?”
“Yes!” Gabriel Young’s face turned ashen.
“That’s likely caused by the device’s high-frequency electrical discharges.” Julius Reed looked at his phone to check the time: “The next transmission should occur in three hours. If we’re lucky, we may see your brother by dawn.”
