Chapter 1469: Chapter 1469: Retribution

Night.

Like a fierce beast!

Devouring all light!

The sky is moonless, black clouds stretch for thousands of miles.

Swimming City has lost its former splendor, the streets cold and deserted.

The entire city has fallen into an exceptionally desolate state.

The night market, rare in its closure for a day.

For no apparent reason.

The City Lord’s Mansion guards and the ruling powers of the Upper Three Paths all dispatched their teams to patrol the streets, ensuring no civilians would appear.

Curfew!

Swimming City hadn’t enforced a curfew in nearly a hundred years!

Yet now, the edict came abruptly.

And within the span of an hour, emptied all the streets.

Xander Cook was killed, Hagan Marsh captured.

The City Lord attacked!

Adler Haw, one of Swimming City’s true ruling figures, killed by a shell inside the city!

Outside the high walls!

Troops from The North Sea pressing down!

Internal strife and external threats.

Hovering in the skies above Swimming City were not only black clouds.

But also fear.

The lights of the City Lord’s Mansion have been burning without pause.

The remaining six ruling figures and the City Lord’s Mansion officials deliberated through the night, discussing how to respond to The North Sea’s near-mad bombardments.

The shellfire fell randomly across four directions.

Even though the City Lord’s Mansion launched counterattacks, The North Sea had already staked half of its resources, continually crashing against the city gates.

Yet the other six factions harbored their own agendas, reluctant to exhaust their strength, resulting in less than a thousand soldiers deployed over eight hours.

Midnight.

The North Sea forces seemed fatigued.

The explosions ceased.

The streets no longer required the City Lord’s Mansion guards to maintain order.

The populace had long since gone to sleep.

No one wants to risk their life.

Except Julius Reed.

In the darkness, Julius was like a hunting falcon, sprinting wildly down the streets!

Behind him, was Gabriel Young—untrusting, yet insistent on following along.

“Some say that Gabriel follows chaos.”

After sending off Elaenor Wood, Julius took a brief rest, attempting to sort out his thoughts.

Shortly thereafter, he followed the intel Elaenor Wood had acquired through the Ghost Market, arriving at the warehouse before him.

During the day, it had already remained unvisited; at night, it felt even more sinister and horrific.

Though called a warehouse, it was little more than a few fractured walls.

The roof, battered by winds and sunlight, had long since collapsed.

Cities all follow a developmental pattern.

Early development shifts from the city center toward suburban areas.

But once the suburbs become the new center, the cycle repeats.

Weeds overgrown.

Rats scurrying endlessly.

In the darkness.

Sporadic bird cries pierced the air.

Black!

Pitch black!

But Julius’s vision was unlike ordinary people.

In conditions where others could see nothing, he could perceive the world as clearly as daylight.

“Two people, leaning against the innermost wall, southeast direction.”

Gabriel Young’s voice sounded softly in his ear.

Even carrying a hint of warmth.

“How do you know that?” Julius asked, surprised.

Even he hadn’t seen anyone—how could this woman possess such skills?

Earlier, he had always assumed Gabriel was just tagging along.

But when Gabriel handed over a thermal imaging device, Julius couldn’t help but marvel at his own outdated methods.

“Notify me once Ambrose Young succeeds in his mission.” Julius spoke while observing the individuals inside the warehouse.

“Relax, Ambrose Young doesn’t make mistakes—personally trained by me.” Gabriel’s tone carried a trace of pride.

“But, are you truly assured?” she countered.

When Gabriel first proposed to let Ambrose Young handle this matter, she’d worried Julius might reject the idea.

After all, this was a major ordeal.

A slip-up would not be tolerated.

Yet to her surprise, he had almost no hesitation before agreeing.

This left the seduction tactics Gabriel had prepared unused.

The uniform was bought for nothing!

Regretful!

“I trust you fairly well. If you weren’t confident, you wouldn’t have recommended Ambrose Young,” Julius’s words warmed Gabriel’s heart.

Trust—was the hardest thing.

Yet the man before her, had no reservations.

But in truth.

Julius had many doubts.

He had already secretly arranged for experts from the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance stationed at Swimming City to follow alongside. If Ambrose Young failed, these individuals would complete the mission on his behalf.

After this task was accomplished, Julius intended for these men to spread the news of Jex Kensington’s death back to his faction.

To kindle warfare between this group and the West Sea forces.

A while back, when West Sea’s Five Mountain Arhats visited the Ten Thousand Mountain Alliance’s overseer Jex Kensington, the dispute over ownership of the Divine Dragon Tripod had been witnessed by many.

Earlier in the evening, Elaenor Wood had sighed and remarked.

“In your eyes, everyone is a scapegoat. You leave after pulling up your pants, and I have to buy contraceptive pills.”

But Julius felt nothing.

Wasn’t this normal?

“Wait for me here.”

After confirming there was no one else around the warehouse, Julius quietly approached.

“Vein Holder, you can still rise again.”

Inside the warehouse.

A faint oil lamp flickered.

Under the dim light, two faces etched with exhaustion came into view.

“Pendleton wants me dead, my own son wants me dead.” Flynn Will’s robes were tattered, his face streaked with blood. “In such a vast world, is there truly a place where I belong?”

His words carried an immeasurable melancholy.

“Silas Will harbors ill intent, even leading the eldest son in usurping the throne! Such hatred! Before I fled, I couldn’t take down that traitor!”

The old man sighed in despair.

“Who would’ve thought, the eldest son disregarded all familial bonds, even scheming to kill you despite your promise not to hold him accountable!”

Silence.

The air thickened with sorrow.

“Beast! He even laid hands on his stepmother! Killing Kamden Will may be one thing, but Kamden’s mother—what crime did she commit? Truly a beast! If only Rhidian were given to me, I’d gladly hand over the throne!” Flynn raged!

His body trembled with fury!

Upon hearing this, a glint of undisguised frustration flashed in the old man’s eyes.

This old fool!

Even at this dire moment!

Still refuses to see the truth!

For the sake of a woman, Flynn had thrown Micah Will into utter chaos!

Endless internal strife!

Now starved to the point of desperation, yet still thinking of a woman?

“Vein Holder, in your haste, did you leave behind the sect’s treasure, the ‘Nine Heavens Thorn’? As long as the ‘Nine Heavens Thorn’ is in your possession, we can have our revenge!”

Suppressing his inner disdain, the old man began probing Flynn.

“Nine Heavens Thorn, alas!” Flynn chuckled bitterly: “Rest assured, the dagger is hidden in a place no one could ever know. Jace Will! We were father and son, but looking back now, it was a mistake to spare you!”

Flynn slammed a fist against the wall behind him, his expression dark.

“Perhaps we should retrieve the Nine Heavens Thorn first?” the old man suggested cautiously.

“Nash Will, what are you implying!” Flynn’s voice suddenly rose: “Your brother Nash died, and I broke the rules to elevate you as Micah Will’s elder. Are you coveting the treasure of Micah Will, the ‘Nine Heavens Thorn’?”

“I wouldn’t dare!” Nash Will quickly knelt before Flynn, a cold smile creeping onto his lips: “As long as the Nine Heavens Thorn remains safe, Vein Holder, you can rise again. I’d gladly sacrifice my life if necessary…”

Before he finished speaking!

He suddenly lifted his head, dagger in hand pressed against Flynn’s throat!

“Speak! Where is the Nine Heavens Thorn!”

The truth revealed with a dagger!

“Nash Will!” Flynn’s face turned pale with fury: “Why betray me!”

“Because the eldest son promised me that, if I obtained the Nine Heavens Thorn, I’d become the Grand Elder! Old man, wake up—your comeback is impossible!” Nash Will laughed wildly, then snarled: “Speak!”

“Do you not fear retribution!” Flynn trembled with rage.

“Retribution?” Nash sneered: “If there’s truly retribution, let this oil lamp extinguish first!”

The warehouse had four walls, the pair situated in a spot unexposed to the wind.

Whoosh!

Suddenly, a sharp sound tore through the air.

The oil lamp, extinguished.
