Chapter 98 - 98 70 Tweaking the Strings

98: Chapter 70: Tweaking the Strings 98: Chapter 70: Tweaking the Strings “I really haven’t seen your item; I wasn’t working in the west section that day.

It couldn’t have been me that you saw.”

The pretty brunette with blue eyes and a mole at the corner of her eye, speaking in stiff Urian, rushed to clarify with Azeryan.

Leon and his two companions watched as the castle’s housekeeper brought the maid before them, their initially excited feelings quickly turning to disappointment.

Azeryan shook his head, “Hmm, indeed it isn’t her.”

“The servant in the west area that matches your description is only her, Lord Casoles.

Do you remember any other characteristics?” asked the butler politely.

“Perhaps I was mistaken.”

Azeryan didn’t persist further; he couldn’t demand that the other party search for the so-called “suspect” in an area he had never visited.

If things got blown out of proportion and attracted the attention of the Felcon Family, it would cause trouble.

After all, they were not truly from a Kantadar noble family.

It was fine to blend in with the many guests who had come to offer their congratulations, but if they stirred up trouble and drew too much attention from the surrounding nobles, there was always the possibility that they would slip up.

For the past few days, the three had been masquerading as master and servants, wandering around areas of the castle where they could move freely, using crafted conversations to inquire with the servants and slaves, looking for traces of Sister Lokhak by her distinctive features.

The current situation was also the result of many unsuccessful attempts.

Azeryan came up with the method of using the loss of a personal item as a pretext to accuse a suspect to the butler in charge of the housekeeping staff.

A woman in her twenties with brown hair, blue eyes, and a teardrop-shaped mole at the corner of her left eye, a beautiful Felu maid or female slave.

When they heard the butler mention having an impression of such a person, Leon had thought they might finally be able to meet the lady they were searching for.

To their dismay, the person the butler brought was still not Sister Lokhak.

After they left, Leon stepped forward to lock the door, only then did he drop the act of a respectful attendant, relaxed, and sat down in a chair.

“We’ll split up and search again after the wedding festivities start.”

The three couldn’t think of any better ideas.

However, the wedding banquet was approaching, and all the nobles would be gathered in the banquet hall.

Other attendants and servants would be gathering to participate in the festivities for their social class.

Perhaps then, they might spot Sister Lokhak in the crowd…

Stepping up the stairs, Elena walked along the second-floor corridor to the room she deeply resisted in her heart.

Hearing the bustling sounds inside, she closed her eyes in sympathy and fear, unable to adapt, she lowered her head and knocked gently on the door.

“Master, the Earl has sent someone to inform you to go for a discussion.” Elena cautiously spoke out to the person inside the room.

After speaking, she did not dare to disturb further, and stood aside obediently, waiting silently.

Before long, a middle-aged man in a black robe with red hair came out of the room.

Pilireno shook his robe with some irritation and complained, “What’s with him and having so much to do all day?”

The impatient red-haired man casually gestured in the air.

With a bang, a metal magic wand appeared out of the light and smashed onto the floor.

Hearing this angry thud, Elena shivered with fright, almost pressing her back against the wall behind her.

Pilireno didn’t care about the slave’s fear; he just glanced at her, frowned slightly, and walked past her with a lack of interest.

He didn’t understand why.

Over the past fortnight, he had become increasingly indifferent to the slaves presented by the Felcon Family.

But Pilireno didn’t dwell on it much.

He thought he might just have gotten tired of these foreign slaves.

….

Leaning against the wall, Elena anxiously waited for the terrifying footsteps to fade away.

Only when she could no longer hear any movement did she feel as if she regained the ability to breathe.

She touched her chest and turned around, walking into the room to look at the blond young man beside the bed.

Her heart ached as she gazed at the pitiable person who had always taken care of her here.

“I…

I’ll go heat some water for your bath right now.”

Kovis shook his head gently with a warm smile, stood up from the bed, and closed his eyes, muttering something under his breath.

In the next instant, a blazing white flame erupted from his entire body.

Even his blond hair seemed to have turned into strands of white flame.

It was only a momentary burn that cleansed as it scorched away almost everything.

The white flames covering his body appeared to be without temperature, and from start to finish, they never set the rug beneath his feet alight.

Having purified himself, the flames of the spell on the young man gradually extinguished.

Seeing Elena’s pitying gaze, Kovis waved his hand and calmly smiled, “…Don’t worry, I’ve been used to this for many years.

As for you, have you been resting well lately?”

“I’ve been much better, but…” Elena’s eyes showed a trace of guilt.

Indeed, the shift in Pilireno’s focus had alleviated a lot of the pressure she and others had been accumulating.

But that burden hadn’t disappeared; it was simply transferred to the pitiable soul sharing her plight.

The Staff Holder in the Black Robe walked through the garden in front of the courtyard, heading towards the main castle building.

The disturbed Pilireno felt restless and irritable.

On the way, the Felcon Family’s servants and the Kantadar nobles who knew his identity did not fail to bow and give way at the sight of his distinctive black, one-eyed robe.

But the annoyed Pilireno couldn’t be bothered to pay any attention to anyone.

The sound of his leather boots clacked against the ground.

Just as he was passing the fountain in haste, suddenly, his vision brightened.

A casual glance allowed him to catch sight of a handsome noble young man.

Looking over at the young noble who was conversing with the servants in the garden, accompanied by two attendants.

Pilireno was stirred.

Indeed, he must immediately go and have a serious talk with Earl Felcon…

It seems that being left in this boring harbor to watch the gate wasn’t always a bad thing.

His urgent pace slowed, and Pilireno touched his chin, his bearded face brightening up considerably.

…Unaware of the lurking danger, Azeryan continued to casually and indirectly inquire about Sister Lokhak’s whereabouts, all smiles amidst the maids.

Meanwhile, Leon, in complete boredom, surveyed the surroundings.

After all, there wasn’t much use for his Urian Language when dealing with the local Kantadar maids responsible for the garden care.

He glanced around and noticed not far away a Staff Holder in a Black Robe passing by, who was staring at Azeryan with a chilling gaze while walking.

Leon felt a slight shock.

That stare…

what’s with that look?

He had no idea why this man dressed as a Black Robed Mage was continuously eyeing his companion.

Had they done something wrong or suspicious?
