Chapter 774 - 363: Monster
Chapter 774: Chapter 363: Monster
The dense sound of gunfire resounded.
A dozen guards in black, alternating shots with their guns, shot metal bullets that pierced through the air at more than twice the speed of sound, weaving a deadly web of fire.
In the dimly lit, bloody ritual hall, intense flickers of light alternated back and forth, with the blood pool and ritual altar splashing scarlet as bullets shattered the corpses of the blood offering ritual.
Fire snakes chased two ghostly shadows that were difficult to capture, until two thunderous booms sounded.
The two living beings, as if they had stepped out of an ancient painting, crashed through the thick walls on both sides of the hall, disappearing into the collapsed holes.
"**!"
The leader of the guards, with scarlet eyes wide, couldn’t believe living beings could possess such speed and power. He raised his hand to cease firing, forcing himself to calm down, and issued orders in a low, steady voice.
The well-trained team members swiftly changed their empty magazines. One team divided into groups, stooping over the corpses of sacrifices, advancing towards the openings in the collapsed walls on both sides.
Another team turned, stepping out of the hall, attempting to flank the two invaders from the outer corridors.
"***, ****!" A pale bloodline member, backing away, looked down at a still twitching, headless ally and shouted angrily at the guards.
The bloodlines in cloaks, looking grim, formed groups of three to five and quickly left the hall, as if trying to get out of there as fast as they could.
The guards’ steel boots made a crunchy, subtle sound against the blood-drenched, debris-strewn floor.
Soon, as the hall returned to silence, the vampire guards advanced while listening intently for any movement from the enemies behind the walls.
Suddenly, a faint breeze as metal cut through the air swiftly entered the ear of a guard leaning against the wall.
It’s right on the other side!
As this thought crossed his mind, he tried to quicken his pace to circle around the collapsed wall opening.
But in the next second, he inexplicably felt his body uncontrollably falling downward.
His body had never felt so light.
As his vision flipped, he gradually saw clearly... his lower body still standing in the original spot.
Only then did he catch a glimpse of a blade, slicing through the wall like cutting through butter, flashing with a bloody glint as it retracted.
With a clattering fall, the guard was wracked with the agony of being severed in two, a piercing shriek tearing from his fanged mouth. His reflexively tightening fingers squeezed the trigger, causing the gun to misfire, sending a series of sparks and bullet holes across the wall and ceiling.
Almost simultaneously on the other side, Olivia stood in a dimly lit corridor, having drawn her blood-stained great sword. Hearing the footsteps of incoming vampires attempting to flank her, she paused just outside the corner.
The opposition halted for a split second; she only heard a faint whisper. Then, two small, oval objects were thrown into the corridor one after another.
Incendiary bombs?
Her superhuman reflexes allowed her to examine the strange objects cutting slowly through the air with confused eyes.
Even though she knew she was unafraid of flames, the warrior’s battle-hardened caution made her swiftly retreat back a step, sweeping the Sun Holy Sword to send it flying upwards.
Immense magic power surged out from her blade.
—Boom!
The blast wave shattered the row of corridor windows into shards in an instant.
The sword’s wind howled, sending the two thrown objects back on their original path, smashing into an eerie statue at the end with a bang, then bouncing back to the corner.
"***!"
The vampires’ curse-like exclamations weren’t even finished when a piercing sonic boom and flickering erupted, accompanied by a sudden flash of explosive flames spilling out from around the corner.
The two loud blasts made Olivia’s keen hearing tingle slightly despite the distance.
Abandoning the enemies reaping the whirlwind at the corner ahead, Olivia swiftly spun on her heel, maintaining the position of her raised sword, her gaze shifting to the gun muzzle poking through a hole in the wall.
As the massive version of the Heraen Melting Flame Handgun-like magic weapon fired again, Olivia’s descending sword blade slightly rotated, blocking the path of incoming "gun arrows." Instantly, with a series of sharp, metallic clinks and sparks, they seemed to collide with some barrier. Not a single one could penetrate the girl’s glinting, cold sword edge.
This was the reason she and Leon simultaneously chose to change the battlefield. Facing the high-speed, crossbow-like projections, a one-directional attack was easier to handle than the killing trajectories coming from all directions, especially when her body was inexplicably sluggish and heavy like lead at this moment.
Her steel boots stepped swiftly and lightly through the deadly downpour of bullets, the girl racing through the corridor past ricocheting, twisting shrapnel.
The guard who witnessed this terrifying scene long since descended from calm, precision shots to panic-driven triggers squeezed tight. Despite decades of military experience before his transcendence and shedding of mortal form, he had never encountered such a fearsome warrior.
On the other side of his headset, the sounds of terrified screams and ensuing silence made the remaining bloodline guards feel deeply uneasy.
The black-clad leader decisively leaped out from beside his teammates, firing his weapon at the armored girl charging anew, attempting to suppress the inhuman monster with overwhelming firepower covering the corridor.
Thud, thud, the deafening roar echoed madly in the corridor.
One breath, two breaths—!
Occasionally sensing that the force behind the shrapnel had completely dissipated, requiring no evasion, Olivia used the thick armor on her body to shield against the fragments, advancing in just three breaths, like an unstoppable beast, bringing the fight into a close-quarters battle she excelled at.
A sword straight down, cleaving the skull of a black-clad vampire.
The Sun Holy Sword performed a vertical slash, dissecting it, followed by a crossblade, slicing the enemy who had barely discarded the handgun and pulled out a dagger to two pieces.
Blood gushed like a fountain from the two severed torsos, dyeing Olivia, who had no room to evade, like a crimson demon emerging from hell.
The girl twisted the sword hilt, flicking the blade, shedding the bloodstains remaining on the sword onto the bullet-scarred walls and floor.
She helplessly shook off the iron glove on her left hand, which had long been deformed by her forcibly gripping it, revealing a clean palm, and wiped the bloodstains off her face. Her dazzling golden hair was almost turned red by now.
Walking forward, Olivia lifted her shin armor and steel boots, skillfully shattered the head of a still-crawling vampire undead, then returned to the hall, slashing at the remaining torso of a vampire cut in half through the wall.
Her gaze scanned the hall, her cold golden pupils surveying the blood sacrifice scene filled with tormented dead, confirming no more enemies were present, then quickly exited through the front door of the hall.
In the outer hall beyond, the vampire debris laid out like a bloody carpet leading to the entrance of the hall, and the girl saw her husband’s tall back, equally stained with blood.
——Bang, bang!!
Two gunshots rang out, blowing up the head of a vampire in front of them who was either pleading or threatening with incomprehensible babbling, like a watermelon.
A clear click of an empty chamber, indicating the gun seized by Leon was out of ammo.
Raising the weapon, full of industrial and design sense, Leon’s eyes scrutinized the compact rifle, unfamiliar in model and appearance, yet similar in shape to firearms from his past life on Earth.
Temporarily discarding it, he glanced at Olivia approaching quickly, unsurprised that his little lion was unharmed aside from being covered in blood.
Despite the presence of firearms, old memories instinctively startled Leon.
But as he sensed the trajectories of bullets rushing toward him, he realized that, capable of twisting solid steel by hand, he was no longer the fragile Earthling he once was.
Olivia lifted her battle robe to wipe the sword, her concern unwittingly showing: "I saw some strange carriages without beasts pulling them in the courtyard running away when we were in the corridor, should we pursue them?"
"No, there’s not much point in chasing them; we need to understand where we are first and then leave quickly."
Leon shook his head, unsure if the vampires might have reinforcements, especially while enduring the discomfort, his condition was quite poor.
Despite the thrill of skewering gun-wielding vampires like candied fruits by throwing the Thunder Spear, it consumed much more magic power than anticipated. If the combat continued depleting his resources, he feared that after the Boiling Heart’s effect waned, his magic element levels would drop too low to summon the Holy War Knight.
Leon turned toward one of the pillars.
A robed vampire who had been giving orders earlier, now had limbs severed and was nailed to the pillar by the Magic Gun, remaining alive nonetheless.
"****! ***!" The vampire, reduced to a human stump by Garner, cursed and spat blood.
Leon shook his head, removed the inconvenient iron gloves, and his hand, like an iron clamp, pressed firmly onto the vampire’s forehead.
"Even against ordinary death row inmates in a dungeon, I rarely use such methods, but with a beastly creature like you, I have no psychological burden." In the depths of his dark eyes, a dazzling white glow emerged as Leon chanted the spell, constructing the Soul Academic Form, deeply piercing his consciousness into the target’s brain like a torrent.
Feeling like diving into a blood-scented red mist, Leon frowned slightly.
Even with the uninhibited use of direct brute force to attempt reading the soul.
The structure of the spell was now extremely difficult to maintain, the once clear imagery of consciousness could only be partially interpreted into abstract and vague acoustic signals and heartbeats.
His own proficiency in soul magic techniques wasn’t supposed to be so inadequate...
Ignoring the vampire’s ear-piercing painful cries, Leon pondered as the ominous suspicion that had always loomed over him became increasingly clear.
He and Olivia... could it be that damned Blood Demon’s tentacle threw them into some strange otherworld?
——Bang!!!
The explosive sound resembling a balloon or watermelon bursting snapped Leon’s thoughts back to reality, the vampire’s head in his palm was blasted to pieces.
Leon was momentarily stunned, then helplessly retrieved his hand dripping with brain matter, disdainfully shaking it off.
Having wasted some magic power, yet revealing nothing particularly useful.
However....
Leon looked up, glancing at the camera he destroyed on the column earlier.
This place was not safe for long...
