Chapter 770: Chapter 360: Terms, Shocking Upheaval (Part 2)
Angelter nodded.
“Then, please follow me. Not far to the east from here, there’s a town ruin with a well-preserved altar. My master once fought against the great army of Aviout that raided through the Gate of Darkness.”
…
Without hesitation or delay, Leon and the others immediately followed the Blood Knight’s direction and headed east.
Indeed, it wasn’t far. Even when slowing the flight speed to let Death Claw fly low and accompany Angelter and Azeryan on horseback, it took them less than an hour to reach the town ruin.
This frontier town on the southern border of Kantadar had long become a lifeless wasteland, with only the mindless Corpse Demon Soldiers wandering amidst the broken walls.
The Corpse Ghost Lord stationed here immediately noticed the approach of the living, and the undead gathered as if sharks scenting blood.
The Blood Knight on the Corpse Ghost Warhorse merely swept his red eyes over them and issued a piercing, sharp sound.
The power rooted in his soul quickly spread out, causing the approaching Corpse Ghost Cavalry and Living Corpses, along with the undead in the town, to scatter far away.
Angelter spoke to the Griffin Knight, clutching his ornate silver lance: “No need to worry, the undead here serve my master’s Demon Sword. With me here, they won’t dare disturb you.”
Leon nodded in response, saying little as he rode the Griffin into the town ruins.
The heavy beast’s footsteps thundered over the already weathered bones. Upon spotting the collapsed altar tower ahead, Leon gently pulled the reins and leapt off the saddle with Olivia.
Kovis and Azeryan also dismounted from the Stormhawk, following the two.
However, gazing at the soul bell, now devoid of its eerie glow, lying quietly among the rubble, Leon tapped its exterior with Garner and scratched his head.
They said it was an investigation, yet they didn’t know how to start.
Kovis crouched beside the bell, exploring the magic pattern technique and rune symbols on it, furrowing his brow and thinking deeply, trying to once again decipher the complex magic as before.
“Didn’t you analyze this Great Magic before? How is it now? Any clues about that Gate of Darkness capable of transporting the Undead Army?” Leon asked as he approached.
With his current level of theoretical knowledge, he could only recognize some Lorelette language fragments, such as the magical meanings of “Kleinian” and “connection,” but couldn’t understand the symbols entirely different from the Lorelette runes.
Kovis rubbed his forehead in confusion, pondering for a long time, and said, puzzled: “Strange, I… I feel like I’ve forgotten much of my knowledge… I clearly remember how to identify this magic, but… analyzing it from scratch, why is it so hard to comprehend?…. Have I grown slack?”
Leon patted his shoulder: “Don’t worry, take your time. If it’s really difficult, you may as well ride the Stormhawk back to Avalon, fetch some Magic Guidebooks from the Mage Tower, and study them while researching.”
Kovis temporarily set aside his confusion: “I’ll try again.”
He stood up, returned to the Stormhawk’s side, pulled out a thick notebook manuscript from his satchel, and sat on a stone pedestal in front of the bell, flipping through and reflecting.
Leon also sat down on a collapsed stone column, leaning on his Magic Wand and staring at the bell, seemingly in a daze, but actually efficiently reviewing the magical knowledge in his mind.
Unless he needed to leave written documents, he didn’t have a habit of recording reminders, as since embarking on the path of magic learning, his memory hardly forgot any details seen in his life, from individual faces to texts and images seen just once.
Time passed second by second.
Blood Knight Angelter had unknowingly flown up the tilted tower, gazing into the distance, silently waiting.
Azeryan, noticing the growing darkness, gathered some shattered wood and lit a campfire.
“Would you like to eat something first?” Olivia offered dry rations and salted meat, showing concern.
Leon broke away from his thoughts, took the food, and thanked in a soft voice.
He took off the Iron Gloves, munching military rations while glancing at Kovis: “You should rest a bit too; there’s no hurry.”
Kovis closed the thick notebook and sighed: “It seems I really need to return to the Mage Tower and see if there’s knowledge corresponding to these peculiar techniques.”
Leon swallowed his food, “I remember these altars were initially just one of the ritual nodes of that shadowy magic. Since the Blood Demon controlled Blood Pool Altar’s core can open the Gate of Darkness and teleport the undead from the Spiritual Field to the outside world, then now, could it be that there are still operational altar cores on Aviout’s side possessing the same ability?”
“Do you mean we should also attempt to repair such altars?” Kovis asked back.
Leon pondered, took another bite of cured meat leg, and shook his head: “We can try, but first, let’s figure out the actual principles of that teleportation gate.”
Having once recklessly activated the ancient palace’s Great Magic, nearly altering the world’s fate, he was indeed apprehensive and did not want to rashly touch any issues related to “Great Magic” tiers.
Kovis wasted no time. After eating a little, he took the notebook manuscript covered with soul bell magic patterns and runes, unwilling to waste time, pulled the reluctant Stormhawk up, and mounted the saddle.
“Remember to find Lokhak and the others on your way, let them know we’re safe,” Leon reminded.
Kovis nodded and noted it down.
Watching him hastily ride the Stormhawk and disappear into the night sky, Leon came to the campfire, silently setting up a Guarding Technique around the three.
With both Olivia and he being energetic, they didn’t need much sleep, and having agreed to keep watch separately during the night, Leon felt assured leaning on Olivia’s lap, closing his eyes.
Before falling asleep, he thought of his “Hell ideas” while waiting for his partners during the day. He couldn’t help but be curious, as they traveled through, the undead on this land could keep wandering without rest and even follow the Corpse Ghost Lord in battles.
If he said those Living Corpses had the soul field gathered by the Great Magic as support, allowing them to draw Magic Power to sustain existence.
Yet now that the shadows had dissipated for over a year, these Corpse Ghosts showed no signs of decay or collapse.
Why is that?
Leon once hoped those Corpse Ghosts would naturally rot away without the protection of the eternal night magic, but now it seemed wishful thinking.
Normal undead magic requires Spellcasters to continuously maintain the magic power.
But this bunch of living corpses, including even those stronger Corpse Ghost Lords, hadn’t been seen consuming anything to sustain?
Vampires too, Eriv said they drink fresh blood only to find it helps sustain sanity, not for survival needs, they could exist entirely without eating or drinking.
This doesn’t make sense.
Even from a magical standpoint, it’s very unreasonable.
There must be some reason keeping the undead sustained…
With this confusion, he gradually fell into a shallow sleep.
…
…Help…
…..Help me.
Something…..is calling?
Who is it?
…Help me.
….?
Help you? You… who are you?
They call me… Kleinian.
A pair of hazy, translucent hands seemed to reach out to him, but in the next moment, countless blood-red waves surged from the chaotic depths turning in darkness ——
“Leon! Wake up quickly!”
Hearing Olivia’s urgent cry, Leon abruptly opened his eyes, tightly gripping Garner as he stood.
Only to see the surrounding rich crimson glow, even overshadowing the moonlight.
Azeryan, who was leaning beside him, also awoke, standing with his sword drawn.
A gust of cold wind, Angelter flew down from the slanted tower, a look of surprise and doubt on his face.
The gazes of everyone were involuntarily drawn to the source of the burgeoning blood light.
——At some point, the Wandering Soul Bell had floated up from the ruins and debris.
