Chapter 766: Chapter 359: Allies and Enemies
In the early hours of the morning, they returned securely to the hidden location of the Holy War Army and lit the Guardian Spirit Holy Lamp.
When Azeryan and the others led the troops out to support, they saw the safe return of the eight people neither in a rush to retreat nor having captured the vampire, leaving them puzzled.
“Could it be that the vampire escaped?” Azeryan asked curiously.
Leon shook his head: “That vampire is no longer important; he is not the murderer of Trosa. Besides, we have already found Lord Eriv.”
The vampire, wounded and tracked by themselves and Kovis, was just an informant sent by Count Eriv to the Ustato Territory.
That night, the other party infiltrated Trosa’s room because there were no unauthorized actions by Count Eriv’s bloodline fighting humans in Avim City. The other party was merely probing whether other factions’ bloodlines had impulsively acted against the Orland Nobles.
By a stroke of bad luck, they happened to run into themselves and Kovis, almost perishing in Avim City.
Hearing that Count Eriv had been found, Azeryan, excited by the ease with which their primary goal was achieved, eagerly inquired how it all came about.
Leon, explaining the course of events to his household’s chief steward, ordered the ambushed troops to withdraw and return to the temporary camp in the nearby woods, planning their next steps in the military tent.
This trip south, the greatest gain was not only finding the Thorny Flower Earl but also learning about the current situation in the southern Kantadar from Eriv.
According to him, more than a year ago, all powerful undead engaged in mad slaughter and soul-reaping regained more or less autonomy after the clouds dispersed.
Leon surmised that this was likely related to the battle at Rolannar, where the Holy War Army dispersed the Cursed Domain, completely disrupting the ritual core of the undead’s Great Magic there.
The magical network that once bound the wills of the undead collapsed completely with the failure of the Soul Bells.
However, the vast Undead Corpse Sea did not entirely descend into chaos.
High-level undead such as Corpse Witches, Corpse Ghost Lords, and Vampires not only regained considerable cognitive abilities but also gained the wisdom and power to control more wandering souls.
Many undead, aware of their transformation into the dead, became more frenzied in a mix of rage and bloodlust, slaughtering and self-destructing in the Southern Mountains and Roslava Territory.
But there were also more rational undead, leading large groups of Corpse Ghosts and pondering their situation, among which Eriv was included.
The changes in the situation were due to the actions of the three most powerful undead.
Charlemagne first appeared before Count Eriv and other vampires, struggling to suppress their bloodthirst. He gathered those including the First Generation Clan he personally created, alongside all Second, Third, and Fourth Generation bloodlines turned by the First Generation Vampires, starting a targeted genocide against Kantadar for revenge.
But on this land, the vampires of Roslava Territory were not the only undead regaining consciousness.
Count Eriv noted that around the same time, the Corpse Demon Lord Aviout destroyed Duke Ablo’s forces in the Southern Mountain Territory.
Aviout then marched west into Roslava, attempting to bring all undead subjects back under his rule.
As expected, the Corpse Demon Lord’s legion clashed head-on with Charlemagne’s bloodline members.
The Kantadar King, who initially launched the eastern invasion, and Rolannar’s guardians once again erupted in a great battle.
Eriv took this opportunity to persuade Charlemagne to turn his focus, aiming to eliminate the main culprit behind the eastern invasion of Seryan as their primary target.
Telling Azeryan about the silent, yet far greater than any in the Kingdom Calendar’s history, undead civil war erupting in southern Kantadar, Leon sighed.
Had it not been for Baron Chaleman and Aviout’s unyielding grudges, these millions of undead would never have allowed the realm of the living the past year’s respite.
“And what about that Kazak, the Athias undead?” Azeryan couldn’t help but ask.
Leon shook his head: “Lord Eriv only knew from you… uh, from Charlemagne, that Kazak was originally the undead leader targeting Seryan. During the time when the clouds dispersed, he led the undead army over the Felu Mountain Range, occupying the northern Urian Prairie. Not only did he avoid conflict with Aviout, but the two even became allies.”
He drew a contour on the Western Continent map with his hand, not only covering the two Great Domains of southern Kantadar but also nearly a quarter of the Urian Prairie.
In the eyes of the people in the North, the undead war ended more than a year ago.
But now, it appeared that, in reality, it had not.
The vast Undead Corpse Sea merely shifted direction, sweeping further south on the Continent.
“The Ulia Tribe and cities in this area have already suffered massacres, with neither the Blood Baron nor the Corpse Demon Lord showing mercy to the Urians.”
Leon pointed again to the southern end of the Felu Mountain Range: “And here, it’s likely the domain occupied by that powerful Lich named Kazak. It’s almost certain that the Felu Kingdom is also currently facing the threat of the undead.”
“We can’t just sit and watch the undead struggle for power,” Azeryan said, propping her chin with a clenched fist, frowning in contemplation: “According to Lord Eriv, no matter which side wins, the Undead King who will eventually control all undead will come again. Even without the support of the Magic Cloud, it will be a calamity difficult to resist.”
