Chapter 741: Chapter 346: Civet Cat_2
To be honest, every encounter might have been intentionally orchestrated by that guy, and the so-called “chance meeting” in Dragon Throat City might not have been genuine.
It’s uncertain if sending out an invitation under the name “Leon Zangson” to meet in Avalon will bring him around again.
After all, aside from Galliard, where else can I find someone knowledgeable about the ancient past from a millennium ago…
Wait…!
A name suddenly flashed into Leon’s mind.
Galron!
Galron Farolis, the first Thorny Flower Earl, the Mage Guard of Lady Aphrodite a thousand years ago.
Right, how could I forget that powerful ancient Heroic Spirit I first summoned?
It was the ancestor of the Farolis Family who identified Olivia’s lineage.
Who else would understand Aphrodite, Gervin, and the others better than the Flame Sun Guard from over a thousand years ago?
Moreover, unlike the cryptic and tantalizing Minstrel, the Thorn Flower Ancestor was an honest man who spoke clearly.
At this thought, Leon couldn’t help but curse inwardly, feeling yet another wave of frustration.
…Damn Valensis!
If Galron hadn’t been carded by the Peacock Knight in the Battle of Ustato, I could just go to the Mage Tower, borrow magic from the Earth Spiritual Veins, summon the Thorn Flower Ancestor, and casually figure out these confounding secrets.
It’s puzzling… why didn’t I ask him about the ancient events at the end of the Lorelette Civilization when his Heroic Spirit Card was still intact?
I was always very interested in history before I traveled through time.
With a sigh of incomprehension, Leon’s yearning to repair that Silver Netti Card became even more urgent.
If Ines can really help me obtain Moonfall Silver.
Then I would only need the Yisuya Soul Stone to remold Galron’s Silver Token.
Should I start the journey to the Mage Tower’s ancient records to search for it at the Ancient Elf Ruins when I return to Avalon?
The Floating Island on the Dragon Heart Peninsula in the Orelia Kingdom.
And Isulan Island in the southern ocean of the continent.
The latter has only some markings on ancient maps, with no other clues.
The former is easier to find, as I once heard from Holy Lake Knights and the Rangers of the Holy Court Kingdom that the miraculous Floating Island is very conspicuous in the sky, visible even beyond national borders, where the flying land can be seen.
It’s said that historically, a king of Orelia once envisioned building a palace atop it, overlooking the land like a god, but this extravagant idea was quickly extinguished by reality’s impracticality. The Floating Island can only be landed on by flying riding beasts, making the transportation of personnel or supplies quite inconvenient.
Even if self-sufficiency could be achieved on the Floating Island’s lands, one could no longer easily tour the four corners, effectively isolating the rule, only satisfying the monarch’s vanity at a great cost.
…Should I visit both destinations?
The journey to the Dragon Heart Peninsula is not short. According to the remarkably accurate distance annotations on ancient maps, it takes over three months one way, even with a Griffin, assuming no delays in the middle, and over three months to return as well.
The round trip taking over half a year made Leon sigh; although Griffins are convenient, they ultimately can’t match the efficiency of planes from his previous life.
Moreover, what if no soul stones are found on the Floating Island of the Dragon Heart Peninsula? That would be a total waste of time.
Suddenly, recalling his wanderer life on another path, an idea unexpectedly popped into Leon’s mind after a long absence.
How about… asking the Ranger Knights of the Eastern Kingdoms for help, offering a high reward for them to find the elf soul stones on my behalf?
Maybe some of the brave adventurers practicing the way of the ranger might be interested in helping me look in Orelia or even go out to sea in search of Isulan Island.
…
Life in the Royal Palace was very peaceful. Although movement was restricted and one couldn’t roam freely, the new King did not neglect the nobles’ needs, and in the beautifully landscaped royal courtyard, Leon treated these days as a relaxing holiday away from worldly affairs.
After all, with Olivia by his side, Acro and Lokhak in the neighboring rooms, aside from handling inquiries from the Forbidden Guard, the four of them spent their days playing cards, chess, practicing martial arts, and living quite pleasantly.
Ines hadn’t sought him out these days, perhaps also restricted in her movements?
Or maybe she was still pondering how to get along with Olivia?
As nobles cooperating with the Forbidden Guard’s investigation were allowed to leave the Royal Palace, Leon anticipated a solo audience with King Eric before departing the palace.
Being a meritorious person who saved the Third Princess and killed intruders, and having previously quelled the riot in the Royal City, he was expected to be given special recognition despite failing to save Lydwen III.
He was both puzzled and relieved that his previous excuse for Olivia’s facial injury seemed to have worked, as Eric did not summon Olivia, who had interrupted Wisemar’s capture by breaking into the Royal Palace that night.
Arriving at the Throne Hall.
Leon paid respects to Eric, who was seated, and after thanking him for the generous reward, he found an opportunity to converse with the new King.
“… Your Majesty Eric, the former King entrusted me with training Court Mages for the Royal Family. Now… when might I fulfill my duties and select apprentices from the major families in the King’s Domain?” Leon inquired respectfully.
However, unexpectedly, Eric’s response was a long silence from the throne.
Following etiquette and keeping his gaze respectfully lowered, Leon glanced slyly at his future brother-in-law from the corner of his eye.
Eric finally spoke.
“Wizards have always been challenging to win over. My father’s demise is the proof. Regarding Court Mages… I will consider it personally. You, Baron Pandragon, need not concern yourself further. I have other plans.”
Leon was momentarily stunned upon hearing this.
The indirect message seemed to be… that he was being dismissed?
His role as the kingdom’s magic commissioner had ended before it even began, being dismissed by the new King?
In all fairness, he hadn’t even had a chance to benefit from it yet… Leon felt helpless, noting the vast difference in attitude between the father and son.
Though, upon reflection, it also made sense.
The King’s father had just died due to a conspiracy plotted by treacherous wizards, and having spent much time guarding the frontier in the Eastern Kingdom without ever working with Leon, it was somewhat understandable if the new King was not yet trusting.
Should he argue further?
On reflection, Leon realized he agreed to take this position primarily for the Royal Family’s Moonfall Silver.
If Ines said she could help him acquire it, then why bother with the position?
Even though the lack of royal financial support meant that the territory’s finances might have to accommodate a greater burden for the Magic Academy, it wasn’t unsustainable, especially as Ines, the little affluent benefactor, would surely help.
“If that is the case, I humbly obey Your Majesty’s decree.” Leon bowed his head in homage and then turned to leave.
…
Watching him depart, Eric stood contemplatively, leaving the Throne Hall as loyal Dusk Blood Guards ushered out the closest courtiers.
“I wish to mourn my father, brothers, and lover… Do not disturb me unless it is urgent,” he said, walking through the long inner corridor into a secret chamber, pouring himself a drink, and adding a strange-colored powder from a small paper bag.
