Chapter 684: 320: Plan Carefully
Chapter 684: Chapter 320: Plan Carefully
The sun bathed the streets of Rolannar in light, and throngs of people on both sides cheered fervently behind the City Guard Soldiers, sincerely calling out the name of His Majesty the King, offering blessings to the Holy Sun.
Musicians played lively and exhilarating tunes as drummers and horns intertwined, while decorated floats adorned with beautiful emblems symbolizing the Holy Sun and the Okrosia Family slowly passed by.
Petals lined the streets, paving the way for the magnificent carriage. At its center, in the luxurious carriage basking under the extravagant canopy and banners, sat the young and handsome King, appearing no more than twenty-something. Dressed in royal garments and crowned, he reclined with a dignified yet amiable smile, waving to the waves of people from the Holy Land City on both sides, responding to the cheers of his citizens.
Eight massive ceremonial horses with glossy coats trotted across the ground with a clear, rhythmic sound of hooves.
Squad after squad of Seryan knights, clad in shining armor and holding long spears with fluttering banners, stood tall, protecting the King’s carriage.
Behind the crowds, Leon and Ines, having canceled their original departure plan, waited on the second floor of a building near the road the King’s parade would inevitably pass through, gazing distantly at the Seryan monarch in the procession.
Ines removed her hood, leaning against the balcony railing, shading her eyes from the sun as she peered at the scene.
The girl’s gaze passed through the fluttering gap of banners along the path as the carriage moved, catching sight of the indistinct figure of Seryan.
Yet compared to the Little Princess watching beside him, the sharp-eyed and keen-eared Leon could see very clearly, even from such a distance.
There was no mistaking the familiar visage of his close friend.
…..Azeryan… it indeed was Azeryan.
Only, the figure was now around twenty-one years old, still young and handsome, but his expression and the demeanor of his body in the royal attire were much more mature and dignified than what Leon used to know.
“It is really him…” Leon felt a complex turmoil in his heart.
Hearing this, Ines withdrew her gaze, expressing a curious reflection: “Sir Azeryan… hmm, now he should be called His Majesty Azeryan… he seems to have a remarkably high public approval.”
Leon nodded, observing that the welcoming enthusiasm of the city’s inhabitants for the King’s procession seemed genuine, rather than a deliberately arranged scene.
According to what they had gathered yesterday, Azeryan, who replaced the original Royal Family members exiled by the Church, ascended to the Seryan throne during the war due to his royal familial lineage, courageously resisting the invading army. In the aftermath, he implemented various benevolent policies that revitalized the Kingdom’s economy in just a few short years, earning himself extraordinary respect among the people. His age and handsome appearance have added a legendary touch to his rise.
The Church’s portrayal and the common folklore in Seryan lauded him as the chosen King favored by Saint Illaril, replacing the rebel King to restore order.
“Seeing this….. it seems staying beside me indeed buried his original opportunities and talents.”
Leon shook his head and looked at Ines: “Let’s go, we’ll return to the hotel and think about this calmly.”
Ines nodded, putting her cloak to hide her face back on and quickly followed along.
Leon cautiously led the girl to avoid getting separated, as the two squeezed through the noisy crowd of the parade celebration, hurriedly returning to their lodging.
….Although Leon confirmed that the Seryan King was indeed Azeryan, he had no intention whatsoever of approaching him to rekindle their old friendship.
He knew very well that the Azeryan here not only might not remember him, but might not even recognize him at all…
In the hotel room, Ines leaned on the edge of the bed, crossing her ankles, her simple little boots instinctively swaying with her thoughts.
“So this is what you mentioned yesterday….. the ‘Parallel World’? Such peculiar and strange things exist in the world.”
The Little Princess raised her eyes to Leon.
She had never heard of such a bizarre concept before.
A space similar to the world she lived in, yet different in every detail….
Not even the most whimsical myths and absurd stories had such an outrageous idea.
“Most likely yes.” Leon leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, with a helpless smile: “Turns out the ‘Flarrell’ family of Holy Land City is indeed an offshoot of the Seryan Royal Family. Back then, when I was fleeing with that kid, he mentioned that east of Seryan were ‘relatives’ who didn’t like his family much. He had described it so casually.”
Ines drew back her leg and sat upright, more concerned now with another problem: “No matter how absurd this is, if your speculation and statements are correct, and this isn’t the world we originally lived in, then what do we do now? How do we get back?”
Leon frowned, shaking his head lightly: “…I don’t know.”
He touched his chin, trying to speculate as best as he could: “The only way I can think of to possibly return is perhaps by going back to Oran Palace and activating that ancient magic in the Holy Sword Courtyard once more, which might send us back to our original world, but of course….. we can’t rule out….”
Leon paused in his words.
He hesitated, wondering if he should now reveal the worse possibility to her, causing unnecessary panic for the girl.
Yet Ines looked at him, calmly interjecting: “…We can’t rule out that magic sending us to yet another….. even more different ‘Parallel World’, right?”
Leon was surprised, looking at this remarkably intelligent girl.
Such as the concept of “multiverse” from his past life, he had not mentioned it to the Third Princess yesterday, yet she had managed to imagine it herself through sheer speculation.
Seeing there was no way to hide this worry, he could only put aside other concerns and candidly say: “Yes, if that were the case, we would probably get further away from our original ‘world’.”
Having said that, Leon bit his back teeth in frustration and felt an uncontrollable resentment towards Met.
If they were merely accidentally sent three years into the future, for Olivia and the other close friends and family, it would only be a period of separation, neither too long nor too short, from his perspective.
But if they could never return….
Thinking of this, Leon’s face twitched slightly, and he unconsciously clenched his fist, taking deep breaths to calm his unvented anger.
Having long left his parents and hometown in his previous life, living alone in a big city as a corporate drone, dealing with a sudden transition away from Earth was a completely different mental and situational ordeal.
Being independent and single in life was merely an environmental and circumstantial difference.
But now, he had a beloved wife, a place to call home, a “family” uniquely his own.
Being unable to return to Olivia, having his familial bonds forcibly torn away was something he could never accept…..
——He must return to the original time and space, at all costs.
Silently swallowing down his resolve, Leon looked at Ines: “In any case, we must return to the Royal Palace to study the ancient magic there; however, we’ll have to take a different path back to Orland. The original plan to return via the Sobonitz Domain is certainly no longer viable.”
From what they discreetly inquired about yesterday, the differences between this world and the original time space were not limited to the fact that Azeryan was chosen by the Holy Sun Church to ascend the throne five years ago from the numerous pro-Church lines of the Royal Family.
In casual conversation, they learned from the locals in Rolannar, that six years ago, the massive invasion launched by the Kantadar Kingdom in alliance with various tribes of the Urian Prairie against the Seryan Kingdom had indeed taken place in this world.
